This week Dawn is joined by John from the Persons Unknown podcast, who tells us the story of Ann Heron's unsolved murder.Part One:In the summer of 1990, Ann Heron's life was tragically cut short. John Dobson from the Persons Unknown podcast tells the story of this unsolved murder, tracing Ann's early life in Scotland, her move to England, and her marriage to Peter Heron. On a sweltering August day, after shopping in Darlington in the North East of England, Ann returned to Aeolian House. Ann's body was later found by her husband. With no murder weapon, a questionable sexual motive, and Peter's affair complicating the investigation, the case grew cold. Key sightings of a blue car and a mysterious jogger yielded no solid leads. Despite extensive efforts, including 5000 interviews and 2700 vehicles being checked, the identity of Ann's killer remains a mystery, leaving Ann and Peter's family searching for answers. In this episode we also hear from Ann's son, Ralph Cockburn.Thank you to John Dobson from the Persons Unknown podcast for researching and narrating this episode, and to Ralph for speaking with me and giving an insight into his mum, Ann Heron.SOURCES:Please visit Persons Unknown Podcast to listen to part two now! Please see our website for all source material and photos at https://scottishmurders.com/episodes/personsunknownSHOW:Support Us:ko-fi.com/scottishmurdersPatreon - patreon.com/scottishmurdersMerch - teepublic.com/user/scottishmurdersWebsite - scottishmurders.comTwitter - @scottishmurdersInstagram - @scottishmurderspodcastFacebook - facebook.com/scottishmurdursYouTube - @ScottishMurdersLinktree - linktr.ee/scottishmurdersCREDITS:Scottish Murders is a production of https://www.cluarantonn.com/Hosted by Dawn YoungResearched and Written by John Dobson from Persons Unknown PodcastEdited and Produced by Erin Ferguson - instagram.com/erinfergus0n/ and Johm Dobson from Persons Unknown podcastProduction Company Name by Granny RobertsonMUSIC:Dawn of the Fairies by Derek & Brandon Fiechter

In March 1980 19 year old Marine Alan Addis travelled to the Falkland Islands with the Royal Navy. The remote archipelago lies 480km east of the southern tip of Argentina. Alan was there as part of a detachment to train local volunteers in defence skills and equipment. Five months later, after an evening out at a social club in North Arm settlement, East Falkland, Alan vanished without a trace. An inquiry concluded he had probably drowned. However, rumours soon began circulating that Alan had been the victim of foul play and the islands were concealing a dark secret. A secret that has remained hidden to the present day. *This episode also contains an update, about an arrest made in a case previously featured on Persons Unknown.Become a supporter of the show!Sources: For a full list of sources please see the Facebook page.British Newspaper Archive Hull Daily Mail28/08/8030/12/8211/02/98Newcastle Evening Chronicle20/09/95Liverpool Echo28/09/95Aberdeen Press and Journal 31/08/9529/09/9530/09/9522/01/9622/08/9730/12/97Aberdeen Evening Press28/09/95Grimsby Daily Telegraph 05/10/95Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph 13/01/9728/01/98Wicklow People 16/07/98Birmingham Weekly Mercury 11/01/98Websiteshttps://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/654082/2017-07541.pdfhttps://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/857886/Information_regarding_the_titles_of_Alan_Addis_who_dissapeared_in_the_Falklands_islands___2019_12389_03_12.pdfhttps://www.met.police.uk/foi-ai/metropolitan-police/d/december-2022/assumed-murder-marine-alan-addis-falkland-islands-august1980/https://www.commandoveterans.org/AlanAddisRMhttps://stories.forces.net/missing-in-the-falklands/https://www.independent.co.uk/news/falklands-arrests-over-missing-marine-two-arrested-over-falklands-marine-1603200.html?ampPromos Follow Persons Unknown: Instagram and FacebookEmail: personsunknownpod@gmail.comWebsite with Transcripts:https://personsunknown.buzzsprout.com/

In 1959 the state of Kansas was absolutely shocked to find that one of its most prominent and well-liked families, The Clutters, had been murdered. Richard Hickock and Perry Smith, two convicts that had recently been released from prison were the ones responsible. Both had been told by a fellow inmate while incarcerated that the Clutter family had a large amount of cash stashed in a safe on their property. The two broke into the family home and searched for the safe, they then woke up the family when they couldn't find it, tortured and murdered them one by one. thank you to exquisite David White for research assistance ReferencesCapital Wire Service. 1959. Like many children living in Atlanta, Georgia in the early twentieth century, thirteen year old Mary Phagan no longer went to school. Instead she regularly worked ten hour days to help put food on her family's table. Life was tough but the morning of 26th April 1913 Mary awoke excited; it was a holiday and she was looking forward to the parade later that afternoon. First she had to run an errand and collect her pay from the National Pencil Factory where she worked. Mary arrived just after midday but would never leave the factory. Over 12 hours later her murdered body was found in the dingy basement of the factory, triggering a tragic saga that continues to have wide reaching consequences over 100 years later. Anne Noblett was last seen alive at 6.03pm on 30th December 1957. The 17 year old had just returned from a rock and roll dance class in a neighbouring village. She vanished on the short walk from the bus stop to her family's home on Marshall Heath Lane in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire. A month later, her body was found in a secluded woodland around 17km away. Anne was fully clothed and her arms had been placed across her chest. Silver and gold coins adorned the ground and it looked like the body had been frozen before being so delicately posed in this macabre tableau. This episode deals with issues including suicide, self-harm and anorexia. Please exercise self-care when choosing to listen. When the Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers walked off stage at the London Astoria on 21st December 1994, they left in their wake a mangled mess of guitars and amps. The band had signed off their last date on tour by smashing their instruments, which, in hindsight, signaled the end of an era. 6 weeks later, troubled lyricist and driving force of the band Richey Edwards disappeared on the eve of a promotional tour to the USA. He has not been seen by his family or his band mates since that day. A couple of weeks later his car was found abandoned near a notorious suicide spot, but no body has ever been found. Rumours of sightings and conspiracies have fueled the belief that Richey is still alive and a recent book has presented a compelling case that the 27 year old faked his own death and staged his disappearance in order to vanish into obscurity. Amikor kedden reggel átlapoztam a helyi újságot, rövid hírre bukkantam, mely felkeltette a figyelmemet. Jenkins hadnagy megkérdezte: – Nos, mi a véleménye? – A leírás ráillik a sógoromra. --- Eredeti megjelenés: James Holding: By Person or Persons Unknown. The school bus dropped Muriel Drinkwater at her usual stop, leaving her to walk the last part of her journey home to the family farm in Penllergaer, West Wales. The 12 year old loved to sing and there was a skip in her step as she started on the winding path through the forest. Just before she entered the woods she looked up to see the farm in the distance. Her mother was in the kitchen and they exchanged a wave before Muriel disappeared from view. Muriel never made it home and her body was found the next day in the undergrowth. She had been assaulted and shot twice in the chest. No arrests were ever made but evidence unearthed in 2020 has produced the name of a new prime suspect. You can follow Persons Unknown on Instagram or FacebookPromo by: Watching Netflix Without You Sources www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/unsolved-murder-12-year-old-19232081.ampwww.mamamia.com.au/muriel-drinkwater-murder/amp/www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08wg6fqwww.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-47961404.amphttp://www.unsolved-murders.co.uk/murder-content.php?key=193&termRef=Muriel%20Joan%20Drinkwaterwww.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/author-names-new-killer-drinkwater-2220319.ampwww.kentonline.co.uk/dartford/news/amp/i-know-who-killed-girl-158735/www.alamy.com/stock-photo-sheila-martin-murder-eleven-year-old-sheila-martin-found-murdered-83441942.htmlwww.unsolved-murders.co.uk/murder-content.php?key=1219&termRef=Sheila%20Martinwww.unsolvedcasebook.com/tag/sheila-martin/www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/bristol-odeon-cinema-murder-remains-5175163.ampwww.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/unsolved-murder-12-year-old-15290561http://www.unsolved-murders.co.uk/murder-content.php?key=1680&termRef=Norma%20Mary%20Dalehttps://www.unsolvedcasebook.com/muriel-drinkwater-the-little-red-riding-hood-murder/https://www.theministryofhistory.co.uk/short-histories-blog/hammersmith-jack-the-stripper-murders
Chadwick Aaron Boseman (November 29, 1976 – August 28, 2020) was an American actor. After studying directing at Howard University, he landed his first major role as a series regular on Persons Unknown (2010). Boseman's breakthrough performance came as baseball player Jackie Robinson in the biographical film 42 (2013).Motivate

Not much in Chadwick Boseman’s early life would lead you to think he would become an actor. Not his birthplace (Anderson, South Carolina), not his family (his mom was a nurse, his dad an upholstery business owner), not his interests (he was the quiet one who played sports). Not one thing, it seems, except he just decided. A sad incident in his last years of high school prompted him to write and then direct his first play, after which he simply decided that’s what he’d do. He studied at Howard University and later at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, and in short order, commenced writing plays: His 2006 Deep Azure was nominated for a 2006 Joseph Jefferson Award for New Work, and the Chicago Tribune called it “Fascinating…Especially because the 28-year-old Boseman is a fresh talent – a young, sophisticated African-American writer with all of the flaws that flow from youth and inexperience and all of the excitement that draws from those very same places. With a slate of cultural references complex enough to encompass the likes of jazz-speak, Shakespeare, Hebrew, Louis Farrakhan and Spider-Man, Boseman offers a creative, slick and arresting employment of theatrical language and imagery.” But Boseman had also taken some taking acting classes in college. At the time, it was just to learn how to work with actors, but in 2008 he decided he was ready to become one himself. He got a few TV parts here and there (L&O, Lincoln Heights, Persons Unknown), but film parts – many of which he was sure he’d get – eluded him. One of those was in Django Unchained. Boseman wasn’t cast, but after his audition, director Quentin Tarantino told his casting director, “That guy is going to be something.” But what? Those were lean years, and Boseman was on the verge of re-committing to the stage. That’s when he got the call to read for 42, playing Jackie Robinson opposite Harrison Ford. Director Brian Helgeland tells a story of his audition: “[Boseman] came in and said, ‘You’re either going to like me or not, and we’re going to know in five minutes.’ He had to play one of the bravest men who ever lived, so I thought that he came in brave was a great indication.” It was brave, considering Robinson himself had played the role in 1950’s The Jackie Robinson Story. Most reviewers felt Boseman did the better job. His bravery was put to the test again when he was asked to audition for the role of James Brown in 2014’s Get On Up. Boseman hesitated (the moves alone would’ve scared even more flexible men), but director Tate Taylor knew it was about more than the Mashed Potato. He needed to see Boseman play Brown in his 60s. “That was the Achilles heel of the whole project,” Taylor told The Guardian in 2015. “I thought, if this isn’t perfect, we will fail, and the whole tone will be wrecked. I need the best fucking actor I can find... and he nailed it.’” Variety agreed, calling his performance faultless. “Chadwick Boseman plays Brown from age 16 to 60 with a dexterity and invention worthy of his subject. We have a chance to see this remarkable actor in full bloom, whether he’s giving life to Brown’s signature dance moves…or burrowing deep into the performer’s tortured, little-boy-lost soul. He feels Brown from the inside out, the way Brown felt his own distinctive rhythms, and even when the movie itself seems to be on autopilot, Boseman never leaves the captain’s chair.” Suddenly, Boseman seemed the go-to guy for movies about iconic black figures. It’s something he initially resisted, but this month finds him in Marshall, a biographical thriller about the first African-American Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and one of the first cases in his career. Boseman is obviously in possession of a strong will, but like most real artists, he’s powerless when it comes to a great story. His most iconic character yet may actually be fictional. Last year he joined Marvel’s blockbuster Captain America: Civil War as T’Challa/Black Panther, a brilliant scientist and king of the unconquerable African nation of Wakanda, not to mention a shrewd tactician and fighter. As the first in a five-picture deal with Marvel, it’s of no small significance to Boseman’s career. So is the fact that he’ll be the first black superhero starring in his own Marvel film when Black Panther premieres in 2018. NPR said his “regal performance” in Captain America “makes you wish it were arriving sooner.” If “you” means the 90 million people who watched the film’s teaser trailer within four hours of its release, that sounds about right. But back to that decision to write and direct. Boseman has said he’s learned you have to choose a clear point of entry to the business, but once you define yourself, you can go into other arenas. That’s good, because we need artists like him pushing from behind the camera as well. However he decides to tell his stories, we’re listening.

Welcome to episode 102! This week we talk about two movies... Paranormal Activity 2 and Mirrors 2. We also go back and discuss Gulliver's Travels (finally!), since we forgot it the last couple episodes. We thank Horrorphilia Jason again for recommending 'Sunshine' and share comments from Ken Calloway, leader of the super awesome band 'Cockfight Club'. Our Garbage In/Garbage out segment is longer than usual this week as we discuss Machete, Bag of Bones, Red Riding Hood, Repo Men, Sucker Punch, Source Code, and The Adjustment Bureau. Whew! ... we meant to talk about 'The Fourth Kind' as well, but will save it for next week. All music in this week's episode is performed by Cockfight Club. Please feel free to check out their website at www.cockfightclub.net. Thanks for joining us! Paranormal Activity 2: (2010) R Doors slamming shut, shadows moving across the floor -- the unexplained, terrifyingly real supernatural forces are back, and this time, Dan (Brian Boland), Kristi (Sprague Grayden), Ali (Molly Ephraim), baby Hunter and dog Abby become part of the nightmare as the cameras roll. Tod Williams (The Door in the Floor) directs and Michael R. Perry ("Persons Unknown") writes this spine-chilling sequel to the wildly popular 2009 flick. Mirrors 2: (2010) NR/R In this sequel to the horror-thriller Mirrors, a security guard (Nick Stahl) working the night shift unwittingly discovers a portal to another dimension and starts having visions of a young woman who was murdered long ago. At first, he assumes what he's seeing is a figment of his own imagination. But when the vengeful girl's spirit begins claiming innocent victims, he's got concrete reasons to fear for his life. From 2010: Before his current run in the limited NBC Saturday night series “Persons Unknown,” the Philippines-born Reggie Lee was a regular on Fox’s “Prison Break.” He also appeared in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot, Sam Raimi’s horror film Drag Me to Hell, in the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean films, and with Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder. And that’s just the tip of the Reggie Lee iceberg.
Phillip Dray details the history of mob violence and lynchings in "At the Hands of Persons Unknown". Dray lays out how lynchings were used as a form of political terrorism aimed at subjugating Black people and enforcing white supremacy. Amanda and Jenn discuss rich people problems, pregnant protagonists, book-slump busters, and more in this week's episode of Get Booked. This episode is sponsored by Book Riot Insiders, Love Letters to Jane’s World by Paige Braddock, and How Are You Going to Save Yourself by JM Holmes. Feedback Adventures in Solitude: What Not to Wear to a Nude Potluck and Other Stories from Desolation Sound by Grant Lawrence Questions 1. Good morning, I'm going on a trip to France (Paris/Strasbourg) in November and looking for book recs for the summer, preferably historical fiction or mystery. We'll be visiting several palaces, so books related to the monarchy would be great. I'm pretty well-read on British/Scottish history but pretty ignorant on French history. (Totally on board for rich people problems :) Recent faves are the Lytton trilogy (Penny Vincenzi), Life After Life (Kate Atkinson), The Diviners series (Libba Bray), Rules of Civility (Amor Towles), Flight of Gemma Hardy (Margaret Livesey), anything by Tana French. I've checked off Atonement/the Nightingale/Everyone Brave is Forgiven. Thanks so much! Love the show! --Brittney 2. Hi Ladies! Like Amanda I really love the rich people problems types of books, from YA books like the Map of Fates series and Gossip Girl to The Vacationers, Rich and Pretty, The Nest, and most recently the Kevin Kwan series Crazy Rich Asians (amazing on audio). I love the fashion and luxury and over the top feel of these books, they’re just... fun and a nice escape from reality. Can you provide me with some recommendations (preferably contemporary settings)? --Jenn 3. Hey y'all! I love the podcast. This year I decided to read more and I love getting deep cut recs that I'd have never found on my own. I'm writing to ask about audiobook recommendations, specifically audiobooks with full cast productions such as American Gods, His Dark Materials, and Lincoln in the Bardo. I find that full cast productions are especially engrossing! Please no abridgments or dramatizations. I'm also not a huge fan of sci fi, I'm just not into space! Thank you so much :) --Bess 4. Greetings, magical unicorns! I am interested in books with pregnant protagonists. The kind where they are doing something badass. Not necessarily fighting crime or saving humanity, but living their lives and being kickass while also growing a human. Some examples that comes to mind are "The Fireman," "Persons Unknown," or even the latest Spider-Woman comic where Jessica Drew was a badass pregnant superhero. These ladies are not sitting around on fainting couches because they feel fragile. They're taking life by the horns and not letting a little thing like the miracle of life stop them. --Emily 5. Hi Jenn and Amanda! I moved recently and joined a new book group full of smart, engaged women in their thirties and early forties. All of us have full-time jobs and some of the members have young kids (one of the women has a full-time job, an 18-month old, AND is getting her MBA!) Needless to say, everyone has good intentions to read the books each month, but with everyone's busy schedules, sometimes only one or two of us actually finds the time to actually do it. I am hoping you can provide a couple of suggestions for books that will entice the entire group to read the whole book. We read fiction and nonfiction, although the group seems to prefer fiction, and nothing too long would help the cause. One of the group's absolutely favorite reads was A Man Called Ove and we recently read Three Junes by Julia Glass which the people who read it really enjoyed but some of the members tried to start it and couldn't get into it. Thanks for any suggestions you have! --Halle 6. I am an avid reader but, unfortunately, have not been able to read for the past few months. It's getting harder for me to get back to reading. I started with Beloved, but I found it heavy and not very engaging. My favorites include To Kill a Mockingbird and Eat, Pray, Love. Hoping that you can help :) --Shivani 7. Hi Amanda and Jenn, First, love the podcast! I recently finished The Magicians Trilogy and absolutely loved it! Could you please recommend more fantasy books like this series? I was originally drawn to the series because I had heard it was “Harry Potter for grown-ups” but what I really liked about these books was that they were moody and gritty in addition to whimsical, and the characters flawed and complex. If it helps, I also loved the Abhorsen books by Garth Nix and the Night Circus, and I disliked The Paper Magician and The Book of Lost Things. No YA please, and bonus points for a female protagonist. Today's Guest: Actor Alan Ruck star of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Spin City, Persons Unknown Order 'Spin City: Vol. 1' starring Michael J. Fox and Alan Ruck, available from Amazon.com by clicking on the DVD boxed set above! Thinking about actor Alan Ruck last night, I was reminded of a Dr. Seuss book called, Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Why? Just think about the places Alan Ruck has gone. He went universe hopping with both Captain Kirk and Captain Picard, to "Spin City" with Michael J. Fox and Charlie Sheen, and to Chicago with Ferris Bueller. ALAN RUCK podcast excerpt: "The best part I have had in a feature film (was as Cameron in Ferris Bueller's Day Off). Other people were offered the film and turned it down. Every time I see Emilio Estevez I want to give him a hug because I knew he was offered the role and decided not to do it. He didn't need the role but I did." Beat that, Cat in the Hat! Look, I know we promised that today we'd be unleashing our Mega-Franklins that awarded the best and worst episodes for the entire run of the series, but we needed a little more time to make it the greatest podcast in recorded history.

In this week's episode, the TVZ team discusses Doctor Who's recent encounter with impressionist Vincent Van Gogh, as well as NBC's doomed new series, Persons Unknown. Also, the news the week and a brand new game!
Kate Lang Johnson portrays Tori Fairchild, the privileged, pragmatic and manipulative daughter of an American ambassador, in NBC’s “Persons Unknown.” Johnson’s television credits include a recurring role on “Days of Our Lives,” and appearances on “Ugly Betty;” “Life;” “ER;” “The Young and the Restless;” “Drake and Josh;” “Malcolm in the Middle;” “Summerland;” “CSI: Miami;” “Boston Public;” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Her film credits include “Echoboom”; “Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon”; “Tom 51”; “Berkeley”; and “Fired Up.” From Academy Award-winning writer Christopher McQuarrie (“The Usual Suspects”), who is executive-producing with Heather McQuarrie, and executive producer Rémi Aubuchon, comes “Persons Unknown,” a one-hour mystery drama in which a group of seven strangers must come together to solve the puzzle of their lives. All of the seven strangers have been taken from their everyday lives and have arrived in a deserted town with no recollection of how they got there. While being held hostage, they are watched constantly by omnipresent “security” cameras with no idea who or what is behind them and every attempt to leave is thwarted by unforeseen circumstances, which seem to derive from mysterious forces. At every turn, these strangers-turned-comrades are threatened physically, psychologically and emotionally. Their only option for survival is to rely on each other, but whom can they trust in this vulnerable state – either behind those cameras or amongst themselves? Their decisions will have moral and ethical consequences, as alliances are forged and relationships brokered.
