Een kritieke kwetsbaarheid in de privacycoin zcash zorgde afgelopen week voor flinke onrust. Het lek zat in de Orchard pool, het privacygedeelte van het zcashprotocol, en was sinds de activering in mei 2022 onopgemerkt aanwezig. Beveiligingsonderzoeker Taylor Hornby ontdekte het gat eind mei met behulp van Opus 4.8, een openbaar model van Anthropic. In een testomgeving kon hij er een onbeperkt aantal vervalste zcashmunten mee aanmaken, volledig onzichtbaar voor de buitenwereld. Was het lek op het echte netwerk misbruikt, dan had het de geloofwaardigheid van de totale muntvoorraad kunnen ondermijnen. Ontwikkelaarsorganisatie Shielded Labs maakte het probleem openbaar en verhielp het in een spoedupdate, binnen enkele dagen na de ontdekking. Toch reageerde de markt nerveus. Door de privacyeigenschappen van Orchard valt namelijk niet met zekerheid vast te stellen of iemand de fout eerder al misbruikte. Die onzekerheid woog zwaar. Zcash verloor op het dieptepunt meer dan 50 procent en er werd voor ruim 100 miljoen dollar aan posities geliquideerd. Onder de verkopers zat Arthur Hayes, beleggingsdirecteur bij Maelstrom en lange tijd uitgesproken voorstander van de munt. Hij stootte zijn volledige positie af, omdat misbruik niet wiskundig viel uit te sluiten. In de prijsanalyse staat de bredere markt centraal. Bitcoin zakte de afgelopen week opnieuw weg en beleefde de derde grote capitulatie van deze bearmarkt, met een daling van 17 procent in vier dagen vanaf zo'n 74.000 dollar. Sinds vrijdag krabbelt de koers langzaam op richting 63.000 dollar. Tegelijk zien analisten rond de vier miljard dollar aan uitstroom uit de bitcoin ETF's, wat de vraag oproept of verdere dalingen dreigen. Ook wat eerdere bearmarkten ons leren over het verloop daarna komt aan bod. En een primeur uit de Verenigde Staten! Een stel uit Michigan sloot de eerste reguliere hypotheek met overheidsgarantie af waarbij bitcoin als onderpand dient. De lening loopt via hypotheekverstrekker Better en wordt gedekt door Fannie Mae, de door de overheid gesteunde instelling achter een groot deel van de Amerikaanse hypotheekmarkt. Lang gold cryptovaluta als te volatiel voor zo'n constructie, maar dat veranderde nadat toezichthouder FHFA onder leiding van Bill Pulte besloot crypto op centrale beurzen mee te laten tellen. Munten in een eigen wallet tellen daarbij niet mee. De opzet bestaat uit twee leningen: een gewone hypotheek volgens de regels van Fannie Mae en daarnaast een tweede lening met de crypto als onderpand. Dagelijkse koersschommelingen leiden niet tot gedwongen verkoop, al kan de verstrekker bij langdurige betalingsachterstand alsnog ingrijpen. This week I'm talking to Richard Lang about his book 'UAP Incidents First Responders Guide: POLICE - EMS - FD' UFO/UAP Enigma Is Real - Now more than ever it is becoming clear to the general public that UFO/UAP enigma is real. After years of secrecy the truth is finally coming out about vehicles of non-human origin that have visited here, some that have crashed here, and non-human entities both dead and alive that have been recovered. UAP Incident Preparedness for First Responders - Just as officers were once trained in hazardous materials recognition and counterterrorism preparedness, UAP Incident Preparedness will hopefully become a necessary component of public safety operations and training. Law enforcement officers are uniquely vulnerable to UAP encounters due to the isolated and unpredictable nature of patrol work. Therefore, it stands to reason that sheriff's offices, police departments, fire departments and EMS rescue squads would now want their people properly trained to understand this phenomenon, to at least know a little bit about the history of it and most importantly from a personal safety perspective, know what to do and not do if they ever encounter such a situation. Bio Ufologist - Researcher - Investigator - Author - Speaker Richard Lang was an FAA Licensed Commercial Pilot with an Instrument, Multi Engine Rating for over thirty years. He has a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Studies and an Associate's Degree in Aviation Management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Mr. Lang enjoyed a successful career for more than 20 years in the corporate banking world as a Senior Vice President working in Brokerage and the Trust Investment Division of Commercial Banks, which afforded him personal time off and sufficient income to explore a lifelong interest in UFO/UAP research. MUFON STAR TEAM While employed in the corporate banking world during the 1990s, Richard joined the UFO organization known as MUFON and was certified as a Field Investigator; he eventually was appointed as Chief Investigator for MUFON in both Virginia and North Carolina. He was one of the original six members of the elite MUFON STAR team where he functioned as coordinator and the first manager of the team. Virginia Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Richard attained registration as a Private Investigator and Personal Protection Specialist with DCJS in 2000 and he worked part time for a private investigation firm in Charlottesville doing surveillance and investigation. In 2002, Lang graduated from the Police Academy and certified as a sworn law enforcement officer in Virginia as a Reserve Deputy for the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office, primarily providing volunteer community service on weekends and evenings which he really enjoyed. During this time, he received certification from the Virginia Department of Emergency Services as a Search-Rescue Field Team Leader and was certified as a Weapons of Mass Destruction Responder from the US Department of Justice. Federal Law Enforcement In the post 911 period Mr. Lang left his banking career to serve as a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) at the rank of Sergeant in Virginia airports. He was sworn both on the federal level as Special Deputy for the U.S. Marshals Service and on the state level as a Deputy Sheriff for the County Sheriff's Office. During this time the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was initially created as Congress had mandated extremely high levels of security for USA Airports. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) After serving for approximately a year as a LEO Richard was hired by Homeland Security and assigned to TSA as a Federal Liaison for airport stakeholders responsible for implementing federal procedures and dealing with regulatory initiatives associated with aviation security. This also included responsibility for airlines and airport authorities as well as all law enforcement agencies in Virginia that respond to airports during aviation emergencies. Commissioned by documentary Channel, Antidiva: The Carole Pope Confessions, which will be distributed in Canada by Motion 58, received funding in 2023 from the Hot Docs-Slaight Family Fund to support the project in its development stage.     In Toronto's vibrant music, art and fashion scene of the 1970s and 1980s, Carole Pope made her mark with the new wave band Rough Trade, which produced bold, boundary-breaking music delivered with a sexy punk edge. “High School Confidential,” the band's breakthrough hit, did something not many had done before: it featured an openly queer performer fearlessly expressing lesbian desire on daytime radio. Now in her 70s, Pope continues to channel her creativity into new forms. Her latest project is a musical that draws on her life and career with Rough Trade, as well as the story of her beloved late brother Howard, himself a celebrated musician and AIDS activist.
