If you are a fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, or Mixed Martial Arts in general, you won't want to miss our conversation with form UFC fighter Luke Zachrich. A middleweight fighter (185 lb division), and an Ohio native, Luke put his time into "the fight game" for his term, before quietly retiring. He has been involved with numerous fight leagues such as Bellator, King of the Cage, and Ultimate Victory Challenge throughout his career as a professional fighter, and remains a well-rounded fighter to say the least. Still an ambitious and sincere man, he gave us a bit of his time to recount the period of his life as a mixed martial artist. Enjoy.
A brief look at one of the staples in MMA, The King Of The Cage (KOTC)
Bud Brutsman began producing television in 1992, creating documentary content for networks, including HBO, The Discovery Channel, TLC and A&E. By 1997, he endeavored to take his involvement in the entertainment industry to the next level; acting as CEO, executive producer and founder of his own production company (BCII). Since its inception, BCII has produced over 60 television series and myriad commercial content over 23 years. In addition to his television talents, Bud is an avid desert racing enthusiast and was a member of the original Ford Raptor development team and a member of the Ford off road racing team. Bud's interests and influence don't stop there. He's also a creator of one of the longest running Mixed Martial Arts promotions, King of the Cage. His organization has hosted some of the most memorable fights between top tier talent in the history of the sport. We spend quite a bit of this conversation talking about the old school days of MMA, but we round out the conversation with tales of racing and a decision that I still regret to this day.
Tonight on Mac @ Night, I give you the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth when it comes to King of the Cage (which we run) and Manifest Destiny (which I have nothing to do with). I give it to you straight, the full story on why we used the name King of the Cage since 1999, and how I was used for our name for the Manifest Destiny tournament, in which I ultimately had zero to do with. Tonight's drink: 901 Silver Tequila by Sauza® I hope you enjoy the show Cheers
Georgi was born in Moscow, Russia in a family of Armenian entrepreneurs. He was introduced to martial arts by his father at the age of six and was just eight years old when he first fought in a full contact martial arts competition.Georgi’s dreams completely changed after the 1994 World Cup. Inspired by world soccer legends Ronaldo, Romario, Roberto Baggio and Georghe Hagi, Georgi made a strong decision to become a professional soccer player. He continued to pursue his passion for soccer after his family moved to the United States. He played with the distinguished soccer club, the San Diego Nomads, a U.S. Olympic Development Program for players under the age of 18. American soccer not being as developed as in Europe and it is very difficult to make a living from it. It was a hard decision to give up such a major passion of mine, but my life has changed since my soccer career came to an end. Georgi made his first professional MMA debut on October 13th 2006 just after six months of training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Although Georgi never dreamt about cage fighting, wining his very first fight against a veteran MMA fighter in the KOTC, gave him enormous confidence and belief that he’s on the right path. With all of the hype that has accompanied Georgi’s hard-earned success, he insists that he just likes to keep things simple and doesn’t get wrapped up in the fame. “This sport takes commitment and lots of hard work. MMA is not just for anyone, you need to love it to be good at it. If you want to do it for fame or chicks forget about it!”Currently, when Georgi isn’t fighting, he shares his experiences and trains different groups and classes of kids, adult and anyone who is willing to learn self defense techniques.
