Most people put enormous energy into securing their money and almost none into securing themselves. In this episode of The Sovereign Life, Dale Warburton sits down with former UFC title challenger and fifth-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Kenny Florian to cover the half of self-ownership almost nobody talks about — your body, your safety, and your ability to protect the people you love.Kenny and Dale unpack why Bitcoin and MMA are both built on proof of work and why you cannot fake reality in a cage or in the markets. They get into what the warrior mindset actually demands when pressure is on, and Kenny gets practical: where a complete beginner should start with self-defense, why situational awareness beats raw fighting ability, how to think about responsible firearms training, and the long-term discipline that carries over from martial arts to money to life. In this debrief episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Brandon Chadwick debriefs Canva's survivor story and examines how her reactions to abuse were isolated from their context and used to portray her as the abusive person. The episode explores the severe gaslighting that led Canva to record conversations so she could hold on to her own reality, the smear campaign that began before she left, and the way every conflict became a trial of her character. Brandon also discusses financial abuse, isolation, pregnancy being used to discredit her, the public and private versions of her former partner, and the custody fears that made leaving feel like choosing between two different kinds of danger. The debrief also looks at the reasons Canva stayed, including the powerful connection from the beginning, her desire to keep her family together, exhaustion, financial instability, love bombing, and the fear that leaving would mean she could no longer protect her children. Riding Shotgun With Charlie #257 John & JJ Occhipinti North Jersey Friends of the NRA It takes all kinds of people with all kinds of skills to make things happen. Running the second largest Friends of the NRA dinner in the country isn't easy, but John & JJ Occhipinti make it look like it is. This year the North Jersey Friends of the NRA dinner is on October 7, 2026 at The Grove in Cedar Grove, N.J. There's a link below for tickets. I'm sure it's going to sell out. John has run a successful landscaping business and is currently retired. His son, JJ, is in the financial services business. In 2023, they joined with the North Jersey Friends of the NRA planning committee. After the man who was running the event had to leave, it was up to them. The first year, they had 520, the second was 535. The goal for this year is 600! This father and son dynamic duo ran the second largest FNRA dinner at only their second time of running this event. This year, on the 250th anniversary of the United States, they want to raise $250,000 for the foundation. The FNRA has had confusing issues. John Petrolino has covered it very well at Bearing Arms. But rest assured even with the Foundation changing its name, the money raised by the Occhipintis is going to the National Rifle Association and half of it is going to programs in the Garden State, which will focus on youth shooting. I recently got to catch up with John & JJ at the Gun For Hire range in Woodland Park N.J. Both of these men are regulars there, setting up tables to get people to learn about the dinner. They shoot and train there regularly, too. Of course, Anthony Colando, the owner has been in the stagecoach with episodes #003 & #025. John learned to shoot with his father with a shotgun his grandfather brought over from Italy to Ellis Island. JJ has the gun now. It's over 110 years old. Guns really are family heirlooms. Try that now! He went pheasant and rabbit hunting with his dad. John took JJ shooting and hunting by the time he was 10 years old. Of course, they didn't find a single pheasant. As time went on, John got into pistols and reloading. JJ got into it in his late teens. What I absolutely love is that they have lives and careers outside of firearms. But their love of the Second Amendment and shooting keeps them involved in the community. Not everyone has to be an instructor, competitor, or have a YouTube channel. They're using the talents they have to help promote and raise money for the cause. The first year, there were lots of 2A dignitaries from New Jersey. The second year, they had NRA EVP Doug Hamlin. This year the big person is going to be NRA President Bill Bachenberg. With the help from Colandro and the Gun For Hire radio show, they've done well to "bust cookies" of other gun stores, ranges, and local businesses to get them to donate. This is what it is all about, donating so that people can support the NRA and help the state and where they'd like the funds to go. Both John & JJ will say that they didn't know what they were doing when they started. But they're smart and successful businessmen. They know how to market. They know how to talk shop to businesses. And they love shooting. Their friends and family will say that after the dinner, they go into hibernation for a couple months to recuperate. But when January rolls around, they're back at it. Looking for sponsors and donations. Of course, they get support from family for this while they're packing gift bags. This is going to be a huge event! There will be items for women, kids, and possibly, a hunting dog valued at $10,000! There will be something for everyone. For sure, you won't leave hungry. If you're in or near north New Jersey, New York City area, eastern Pennsylvania, even lower Connecticut, maybe Massachusetts, you need to attend and help them hit their goal. Yes, I'll be there, too! Favorite quotes: "We want to show the country that New Jersey is to be reckoned with." "I said 'we've got that covered already'." "We didn't know how to run a fundraiser. We just shot from the hip." "Our goal, while lofty, is achievable. I want to bring in $250,000." At the turn of the twenty-first century, Detroit investigators faced a nightmare few police divisions ever encounter: multiple serial predators operating at the same time, in the same city, often targeting vulnerable victims in overlapping neighborhoods. To the public, the crimes appeared scattered. A schoolgirl attacked on her way to class. A woman assaulted before dawn. A victim deceived, coerced, or ambushed. A body discovered. Separate incidents. Separate headlines.Inside Detroit's Major Crimes Division, a more disturbing picture began to form. As detectives compared reports, victim statements, timelines, geography, and behavior, the investigation became something far more difficult than a search for a single suspect. The city was not hunting one predator. It was hunting several. SERIAL CITY: Detroit and the Hunt for Multiple Serial Predators—G.H.Cliff

Is the classic .30-06 Springfield still the ultimate do-everything king of cartridges, or have modern calibers left it in the dust? In this episode of the Guns Podcast US, Brent Wheat and Roy Huntington tackle the great caliber debates, technical shooting myths, and real-world defensive gear. We kick things off with a deep dive into the versatile .30-06—exploring its incredible range of bullet weights, its history in the field, and whether it deserves a spot at the top of your rack. Then, we shift gears to handgun ballistics to answer a tough question: Are high-powered cartridges like the 10mm and .357 SIG actually "too much gun" for self-defense, or do they give you a legitimate tactical edge? Plus, Brent shares an inconvenient truth about who actually pays for wildlife conservation in America (and why bird watchers are getting a free ride), Roy busts a major myth about resting your handgun barrel on a ransom rest, and we share a powerful, real-world defensive shooting perspective from a retired LE trainer in a wheelchair. Grab a mug, pull up a chair, and join the club! -- Have a topic idea or a guest you'd like to see in a future episode? Professor Carlos Reyes (Splendid Savage) on Jiu-Jitsu, Humility, Self-Defense, and Life Change Host Pete Deeley welcomes Professor Carlos Reyes ("Splendid Savage") to The Jiu-Jitsu Mindset, promotes the My Jiu-Jitsu Journey social app and Submission coffee, and discusses how jiu-jitsu redirected Reyes' life away from trouble associated with his band years, alongside faith. Reyes describes being drawn in through punishing early experiences, including being repeatedly submitted by a much smaller blue belt, which taught humility and openness to learning. He recounts a DUI and time in jail that prompted a commitment to jiu-jitsu, and how competition can inoculate practitioners against stress, though it should not be forced. Reyes contrasts sport-focused training with self-defense principles, emphasizing "DNA" concepts like base, connection, leverage, and weight distribution. He shares a student's transformation—losing 70 pounds and gaining confidence—illustrating jiu-jitsu's off-mat impact, and closes with where to find him online. 00:00 Welcome and Announcements 01:42 Life Without Jiu Jitsu 04:31 First Roll Reality Check 06:58 Humility and Honest Growth 12:13 Jail Wake Up Call 15:37 Habits and Incremental Change 17:30 Why Compete at All 20:27 Competition as Stress Training 26:16 Most Memorable Rolls 29:10 Self Defense Awakening 30:40 Sport Gym Shark Tank 31:53 Choosing the Right Gym 37:36 Principles Over Moves 39:48 Embracing Failure and Time 43:47 Student Transformation Story 49:26 Virtuous Cycles and Lifestyle 51:21 Splendid Savage Identity 52:44 Wrap Up and Where to Find

In this episode, Roman and historians Heather Ann Thompson and Elliot Williams tell the story of the sharpened screwdriver: the object at the heart of the 1984 Bernhard Goetz subway shooting. In a difficult moment in New York City, four Black teenagers were transformed in the public imagination into armed criminals. What follows is a gripping account of how misinformation takes hold, how fear shapes public opinion, and how one narrative can ripple outward – echoing through decades of similar cases that continue to unfold today.
