Riding Shotgun With Charlie #237 Erica Chin WOMA's Amateurs & Experts Podcast Heading into SHOT Show season last year, I got an email from someone I didn't know asking me to be on their show at SHOT. Of course, I'm going to say yes. The email was from Erica Chin. She's the co-host of the Women's Outdoor Media Association's podcast called Amateurs & Experts. The other host is Jess Andrich. They talk to people in the firearm and hunting, fishing, outdoor community. We recorded the show at the Otis Technology booth, where they host a number of podcasts, including the shows Matt Mallory and I did during SHOT 2025. Since becoming friends with the ladies, we keep in touch. Erica said she was coming to NRA AM in Atlanta and I said we should film a show despite Jess not being there. She is a SHOT pro, but this was her first time at NRA AM. We actually started the day off by Erica calling me and going to an award ceremony, where Anne Mauro (RSWC #146) received an award for the NRA Women's Golden Bullseye Award for “Industry Woman of the Year.” Erica was also able to meet with her show's sponsors. Growing up in a household run by her father who was a police officer, she was surrounded by firearms, hunting, and the shooting sports. Yet he didn't ask her to join him at the range. The first time she shot was in training to be a probation officer. The training started off with a week of shooting and handling. After the initial training, it went to quarterly range sessions with one magazine for them to shoot. After being married, she found out her husband was into shooting and wanted to get back into it. This move slowly got her into shooting competitions, but mostly it was some social time for her, she wasn't concerned with her score. Her husband said she was more concerned with clothes and snacks at the range and suggested, maybe, she should practice as much as she's concerned about those items. Then he signed her up for 3-gun match at Babes With Bullets, which is hosted with Deb Ferns, (RSWC #204) and Kay and Jerry Miculek. Yeah, she went right to the top tier of competitive shooting! The first 3-gun match set her on a new trajectory. She became a range safety officer just to be able to help at Babe With Bullets in the future. Being around Deb “sucks you in” and Erica went in with both feet. She took a trip from Utah to Montana and went off grid for a while. Eventually, she realized and remembered she has responsibilities at home with a family and she's been more selective of the events she goes to. Erica shares some hunting stories and experiences she's had with BWB & WOMA. She's not afraid to get into the field dressing of the beasts she harvests. With an interest in new things to explore, she and Jess have the gift of gab and were a natural to host the WOMA podcast. They're both fun, up for new adventures, and great with everyone. They've got great chemistry together. They settled with Amateurs & Experts for the name of the podcast because they talk with all kinds of experts in the outdoor community and want to reach the amateurs. Their second season of pod is dropping now, so find them on your favorite podcast outlets. Besides being an RSO with BWB, and a probation officer, she's trained to drive Code 3, which means she can drive with lights and sirens. Being a person who enjoys expanding her horizon, she became a massage therapist so she could give massages at BWB. She's also taken classes for funeral science. There's a lot going on with her! Favorite quotes: “Once you meet Deb Ferns, you drink the Kool-Aid.” “As a female it's tough to find places where we fit into hunting, where we fit into shooting sports, where we fit into fishing, and WOMA really encourages women to get out there.” “I went to school for funeral science.” “The last thing you can give someone is dignity in their death.” WOMA https://www.thewoma.org/ WOMA Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TheWOMA/ WOMA Instagram https://www.instagram.com/womensoutdoormediaassociation/ WOMA LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-woma/ WOMA X https://x.com/WOMA_the Amateurs & Experts Podcast https://www.thewoma.org/podcast Amateurs & Experts Podcast Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/7yZEor7j1SFBuB9LhWWHVm Babes With Bullets Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BabesWithBullets/ WOMA's She Never Quit Charity https://www.thewoma.org/snq Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. Former foreign minister Shlomo Ben-Ami invested substantial time and effort into shaping a two-state solution during his political career – and ultimately came to the conclusion that it was not viable. On the Haaretz Podcast, Ben-Ami cast a critical eye on the current push by French President Emmanuel Macron and a long list of countries including the U.K., Australia and Canada to recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly. He sees the move more as "a sign of despair" over the leaders' powerlessness to end the Gaza war rather than "a practical solution" that lacks a roadmap for turning the concept into reality. Calling the two-state formula on the table "utterly irrelevant," Ben-Ami expressed "surprise that statesmen such as Macron and the others were pulling it out of the attic of lost causes." In his conversation with host Allison Kaplan Sommer, Ben-Ami spoke on the podcast of the deterioration of the Gaza conflict from a "legitimate war of self-defense" one of "merciless, cruel vengeance." He also explained why "total victory" over Hamas remains impossible. Whatever the outcome in Gaza, he noted, the war will be framed as a success and "will remain in the collective memory of the Palestinian nation that they forced Israel into a war that lasted more than two years, that Hamas pulled the two-state solution out of oblivion, emptied Israeli prisons of Palestinian prisoners, blocked the Israel-Saudi normalization and Israel's dream of regional peace." On Thursday's show: A 42-year-old Houston man was arrested this week and charged with murder in the shooting death of a boy who was playing a prank by ringing on doorbells and running. We discuss the story with Houston Chronicle writer Leah Binkovitz, who wrote an opinion piece about how the country has changed since she played the same prank as a kid. Also this hour: Two of Space City's NASA veterans are making sure their former colleagues get recognition they're due. Larry Bell and Chet Vaughan tell us about ceremonies they hold for otherwise unsung heroes of the space program. Then, the Hearst Corporation now owns the major newspapers in the state's four largest metro areas, including here in Houston. We learn what it means for the business with Michael Hardy from Texas Monthly. And can comedy be a tool for recovery? We ask comedian Andy Gold and the organizers of a fundraiser this weekend for The Council on Recovery called Addicted to Comedy.

Talk Back to MeOn August 27th, 2025, a school shooting took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The transgender shooter identified by authorities followed a pattern of recent mass shootings, paying homage to earlier murderers. Churches, facing violence against their congregations by ideologies supported by some state governments, are pressed with a moral question of what to do. Christians are in an asymmetrical conflict. On moral grounds. On Political grounds. And violence. We are held to a higher standard, not by dishonest men, but by God. And worse, our enemy knows about it and intentionally uses it to their advantage. As as result we must be shrewd as serpents, and innocent as doves. Church security is nothing new. And despite political backlash by dishonest actors, such men have a grave task ahead of them. One that requires discernment. In this episode we cover what is known about the Minneapolis shooter. His methods, goals, and ideology as displayed in his own manifesto. The consequences and warnings we face from scripture do not permit us to act in vengeance, but still we grieve the loss of life, not because it is ultimately an offense to ourselves, but an affront to God, as man is created in His image.Use Code 2025deaddrop10 for 10% off your order at obsidianarms.comThis episode has been sponsored by Obsidian Arms, a manufacturer of tools, parts and firearms, as well as operating as an OEM shop for those looking to bring excellence to the market. Matt Mallory & I have done some live shows with Zeke, including on at SHOT Shot 2025. He's been talking to me about doing a show in Memphis and we were able to pull it off after the NRA Annual Meetings in Atlanta this year. We started across the street from Graceland, yes, where Elvis Presley lived. He warned me to watch out for high speed chases as they have the best drop guns in Memphis! Zeke has made a great career for himself and in several fields. He started in medical sales, pharmaceutical sales, and medical supply sales just to have a solid income. The hours were neverending, being on call all the time. So it was time to move on. At one point, he got some help from an entrepreneurial friend and learned about marketing. This was his new passion. He's been able to use that throughout his career and in many of the fields. They opened a car dealership in Clarksville, TN, and he decided to get his carry permit. Once he was into firearms, he turned it full on. During drives to work he would call and talk with his friend Marty “Lefthand” Holder and they would talk about guns and called it Talking Lead. It hit them that they should start a podcast. His entrepreneur friend owned a Mexican radio station and he asked if they could use the studio to record their podcast. For a while, both Zeke and Vanessa Mandrel had a radio show called Projectile Disfunction. Within four episodes of Talking Lead, they learned there were other great firearm content creators who lived within 30 minutes. Folks like Hickok45, .22 Plinkster, and TNOutdoors9. James Yeager wasn't too far away either. Their episode with Hickok got them into 117 countries. In six months, they were one of the largest gun podcasts in the world. At one point, Zeke started doing marketing for a gunsmithing school who shall not be named. He took that company and grew them over 340% in four years. One day, he opened a message on LinkedIn and there was a message from a casting agency. They wanted him to audition to be a judge for gunsmithing on the show Master of Arms on Discovery Channel. According to him, the way to win an audition is to not care. Once they found out that he had other media and podcasting skills, they wanted him to host the show. Ashley Hlebinsky (RSWC #130) was also on that show. Unfortunately, the show only lasted one season. After the TV season of life, he took a hiatus from firearms and got into marketing in the motorcycle world. Yes, one day a week, he had to ride his bike for work! After a while of motorcycle marketing, he reached out to Modern Gun School, MGS. Part of the offer was to do what he did for the other company, but this time he wanted to be a part owner. One of the first things they did was rebrand to MGS Trade School so that it was much more acceptable. If that wasn't enough, Zeke took that marketing skill and got into golf while his son was taking lessons. He started Dilligolf. It's short for “Do I look like I golf.” He's been growing that YouTube channel, too. It was such a fun show to record and to hang out with Zeke. We do take a call from Yehuda Remer, The Pew Pew Jew. He's got so many stories and tells them well. You'll really get to know him and see what a great guy he is. Oh yeah… we do see a high speed chase and pick up a drop gun. As he says, “we've got the best drop guns in Memphis.” Favorite quotes: “Whenever I get into anything, I dive in, absolute head first.” “Talking Lead was started in a Mexican radio station in Nashville.” “What just happened? We might have something on our hands.” “Dude, we didn't know you did all this. Why don't you audition for the host of this show?” “I'll form an LLC and write off all my golf expenses. And I did.” MGS Trade School https://mgs.edu/ MGS On YouTube http://youtube.com/@mgstradeschool MGS Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MGSTradeSchool/ MGS X https://x.com/mgstradeschool MTS IG https://www.instagram.com/mgstradeschool/ Dilligolf YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@Dilligolf MTR Defense https://mtrdefense.com/ Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. He discussed how Americans often avoid trauma training until an emergency occurs, noting that corporate first aid training is typically limited to CPR and basic life support due to insurance discounts. The class highlighted the importance of proper bleeding control techniques, contrasting with common first aid knowledge that focuses on CPR, which is ineffective for severe bleeding situations. Counterfeit Tourniquet Awareness Discussion The group discussed counterfeit rapid tourniquets, identifying them by their flimsy metal parts, lack of authenticity markings, and poor quality compared to genuine products. They advised against purchasing tourniquets from suspiciously low-cost sources and recommended buying from authorized retailers like ShopSOTG.com. Self-Defense and Cultural Institutions The meeting discussed a defensive gun use case in Texas where a homeowner used his firearm to deter an intruder with a machete, highlighting the importance of gun ownership for self-defense. The group also touched on recidivism rates and the manipulation of crime statistics in Washington, D.C. Finally, they introduced the "Warrior of the Week" segment, featuring a speech by Yuval Levin on the importance of institutions in addressing cultural conflicts. Rebuilding Trust in Institutions The meeting focused on a speech by Yuval Levin at BYU, discussing the decline in trust towards institutions in American society. Levin argued that institutions are failing to form trustworthy individuals, instead becoming platforms for performative behavior. He emphasized the need for a mindset change, where individuals take their institutional roles seriously and ask, "Given my role here, how should I behave?" Levin concluded that healing society's divisions requires small, constructive steps towards rebuilding trust in institutions.

In this episode, we break down how the drills you run on the range directly translate to real-world self-defense situations. From drawing from concealment to engaging multiple targets, every rep builds the muscle memory and confidence you need when seconds count. We also dive into one of the most overlooked tools in firearms training—the shot timer. Learn why tracking your speed under pressure is just as important as accuracy, and how shaving even fractions of a second can make all the difference in a defensive encounter. If you carry, train, or just want to take your shooting skills to the next level, this episode will help you connect the dots between practice on the range and performance when it truly matters.

Episode Summary: In this episode, John and Josh take a no-nonsense (and slightly sarcastic) look at some of the most misguided things people say about their self-defense and fighting abilities. From “I'll just kick them in the groin” to “I fought my brother once,” they break down why these beliefs are dangerous, unrealistic, and often rooted in movie myths instead of reality. Along the way, they share training stories, break down fight footage, and even relive the unforgettable “Josh gets tased” moment. What You'll Hear in This Episode:Why “nothing will ever happen to me” is one of the most dangerous self-defense mindsets. The myth of the “groin kick win button” and why it's not a guaranteed fight-ender.Strength vs. skill – why technique usually wins.“I'll go crazy” – the flaw in relying on pure aggression. The problem with basing confidence on a single high school fight. The false security of “I have a weapon” (and why access and legality matter). Why sibling wrestling matches don't prepare you for real attacks. The illusion of learning “a few moves” from YouTube without real practice.Good instincts aren't enough under adrenaline and stress.Overestimating the “one punch knockout” fantasy.Key Takeaways:Real skill only comes from consistent, realistic training against resisting partners.Movies and viral videos create false expectations of how fights work.Being a good training partner is just as important as practicing techniques.Overconfidence without experience can lead to poor decisions and legal trouble. The best self-defense mindset: Train more, suck less.Links & Resources:Train with us online: ClearSky TrainingIn-person training: Rocky Mountain Self Defense & FitnessSupplements & gear: Suck Less PerformanceClosing Message: Don't overestimate your skills. Don't wait until it's too late. Train consistently, question your assumptions, and remember—self-defense is about preparation, not ego.

In this episode, I examine the philosophy of lying, discussing its moral complexities and ethical implications. I differentiate between various types of falsehoods and their responsibilities, particularly for public figures. I explore the ethics of self-defense in verbal deceit, arguing that context matters when determining the moral weight of lying. Ultimately, I conclude that while lying is a breach of trust, it cannot be universally condemned, encouraging listeners to reflect on their own understanding of truth and deception.FOLLOW ME ON X! https://x.com/StefanMolyneuxGET MY NEW BOOK 'PEACEFUL PARENTING', THE INTERACTIVE PEACEFUL PARENTING AI, AND THE FULL AUDIOBOOK!https://peacefulparenting.com/Join the PREMIUM philosophy community on the web for free!Subscribers get 12 HOURS on the "Truth About the French Revolution," multiple interactive multi-lingual philosophy AIs trained on thousands of hours of my material - as well as AIs for Real-Time Relationships, Bitcoin, Peaceful Parenting, and Call-In Shows! You also receive private livestreams, HUNDREDS of exclusive premium shows, early release podcasts, the 22 Part History of Philosophers series and much more!See you soon!https://freedomain.locals.com/support/promo/UPB2025

Riding Shotgun With Charlie #235 Evered Douglas, Yasuke Fett Black Powder Podcast At SHOT Show 2025, I met Evered in passing. I was doing a show, someone slipped his card into my pocket, and said reach out to this man. We started following each other on the socials. At NRA AM, we had a chance to film a show. Evered didn't get into firearms until he was a father and going through a divorce. He realized that the layout of his place wasn't necessarily the safest. There was potential for some he said/she said going on. So it was time to pursue getting a carry permit in Georgia. His first purchase was a Mossberg 88 shotgun. Maybe not the best choice, but we all start somewhere. We've all been “tactically frugal.” He said he went all “Amazon tactical” buying things like a scope and a light to put on the gun. He admits “this is why you got to research and study.” His first trip to the range with the Mossy was a bit embarrassing. He wasn't sure how to hold it so he ended up putting it under his armpit. This is how he started down the rabbit hole to see that rights are being taken away from us. His taste in gear has also matured since then, too. He moved to a Canick and a Ruger handguns. One of the goals that Evered has is to become an instructor. After his divorce, things were tough. His daughter was only 6 months old when that happened. He wasn't getting enough time with her. But he's looking into getting certified by either the NRA, the USCCA, or by NAAGA. He has been helping some friends get into firearms and helping them along their journey. Taking other courses as a student has helped him get through the hard times that affect divorced people. Georgia is a permitless carry state, but they still issue permits. Back when Evered was getting started on his firearm journey, he still needed to get a permit and there was a learning curve for that, too. The Black Powder Podcast is mainly focused on black society and firearms. He takes the name from a cartridge. The fans are the powder. The bullet is the message he's putting out. He ignites the fans to get the message out. He dropped his first episode on Sept 11, 2020 as a reminder of how we all came together as a country. It was a good year for new beginnings with all that was going on. And thus, a good time to get the new gun owners from 2020 into the fold and learn about firearms, safety, and how and when to use them. Since SHOT Show, he's gone from just an audio podcast to adding video, which he drops on Mondays. Before Black Powder Podcast, he was doing Warbound Radio. It was more towards video gaming. But he plans on rebranding that and bringing it back as a men's positivity podcast. Going through his divorce, he became much more aware how the family court system leans toward the mothers and not the fathers. This past year was Evered's first year at SHOT. A friend helped him get in. He's working on a lot of things and I think he's really getting his message out. He's got the Black Powder Podcast and YouTube channel. He's working to become an instructor. And he's working to reach more people in the community. Favorite quotes: “You realize how many rights and how much stuff they're doing to take stuff away from you.” “If you can't walk it and talk it or line it up and shoot it, why are you even doing it in the first place.” “It was getting me active again, getting all that stupid depression crap off my back.” “The primer is hit, the power is lit.” “Any time you act out of fear, it doesn't end well.” Black Powder Podcast https://blackpowderpodcast.com/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/blackpowderpodcast/ YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@blackpowderpodcast Instagram https://www.instagram.com/blackpowderpodcast Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. Gas Mask Filters and Shelf Life Jarrad and Professor discussed technical issues with microphones and audio setup, then explored gas mask filters and their shelf lives. They clarified that different filters have varying shelf lives, with some lasting up to 20 years in storage, and explained how gamma radiation dissipates over time due to sunlight and natural processes. They agreed to open future shows with questions to encourage audience participation. Radio Show: Wrestling and Planets The meeting began with a brief delay as Jarrad dealt with technical issues. They discussed wrestling events, including Brock Lesnar's return and the handling of past controversies. The group then prepared to record the radio show, addressing listener questions and discussing the definition of planets, including the historical classification of Pluto. They also touched on the International Astronomical Union's updated criteria for what constitutes a planet. Gas Mask Filters and Historical Verification The hosts discussed gas mask filters, addressing a listener's question about their shelf life. They explained that filter longevity depends on the type and manufacturer, and recommended checking with the manufacturer for specific recommendations. The conversation then shifted to historical perspectives on weapons of mass destruction and the challenges of verifying historical information in the modern age, with Jarrad noting that while people have more access to information now, determining its accuracy remains difficult. Firearms Industry Technology Trends The meeting focused on a tech talk segment discussing recent developments in the firearms industry. The Professor highlighted Eotech's acquisition of VK Systems, which provides technology for situational awareness and team tactics. They also discussed the term "uncommanded discharge" and its relation to the Sig P320, noting its recent coinage due to the gun's unique firing mechanism. Professor further explored the shift in the firearms market, particularly CZ's promotion of a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) pistol, the CZ Shadow 2, as an everyday carry option, which represents a departure from the prevailing trend of striker-fired polymer guns. This move by CZ suggests a potential shift in consumer preferences and industry direction. John Benner: Warrior of the Week The meeting focused on honoring John Benner, the founder of Tactical Defense Institute, as the Warrior of the Week. Paul Markel shared personal anecdotes about Benner's contributions to law enforcement training and his invention of the K-Bar TDI law enforcement knife. The discussion highlighted Benner's emphasis on practical training and the importance of providing trainers for law enforcement equipment. Jarrad and Paul also promoted SOTG University's home study courses and residency programs, emphasizing the availability of training resources for students. Self-Defense in Firebomb Attacks The professor and Jared discussed a recent incident where a Virginia city councilman was allegedly set on fire by a man who threw gasoline on him. They debated whether the councilman could have defended himself with a gun if he had been carrying one, and discussed the increasing number of firebomb attacks in recent months. The professor suggested that carrying guns could be a deterrent against such attacks, and mentioned a video by John Stossel that supports their perspective. Gun Ownership and Media Portrayal The discussion focused on the debate around gun ownership and the media's portrayal of firearms. Professor and Jarrad discussed how Hollywood often depicts armed citizens negatively, contrasting with real-life examples of defensive gun use. They also analyzed a situation where California Governor Gavin Newsom was unable to accept a gifted handgun due to his state's strict gun laws, highlighting the complexity and potential absurdity of such regulations. The conversation concluded with criticism of Newsom's hypocrisy and the need for leaders to practice what they preach. BPC-157: Fitness Supplement Insights The discussion focused on BPC-157, a peptide supplement that has gained popularity in the fitness community. Professor shared his personal experience with the supplement, which was recommended to him by Dr. Dan for muscle recovery. He noted that while it was initially difficult to find, it is now available on GNC's website under different names. The conversation also touched on the growing interest in peptides, citing recent mentions by Joe Rogan and Kevin James. Professor emphasized the importance of listening to experienced individuals in the fitness and health field, and encouraged listeners to check out a recent episode featuring Matt Reynolds and to read Nicholas Orr's book. Sig P320 Safety Concerns The discussion focused on safety concerns with the Sig P320 pistol, particularly regarding incidents where the gun has discharged while in holsters. The professors discussed how Sig Sauer released a formal statement addressing various incidents, but the statement did not satisfy their concerns about the gun's safety. As a result, they decided to ban the P320 from their training classes until Sig Sauer provides clearer guidance about what "ready to use" means in their owner's manual. Super Dave's Chili Legacy The professor shared a humorous story about Dave Harrington, known as "Super Dave," who was a military contractor and roommate. The professor revealed that Dave's favorite chili recipe was created by him in 2007, and Dave would eat all the solid ingredients, leaving only chili soup behind. Despite being angry at the time, the professor later included a note in a cookbook suggesting to double the recipe if Super Dave was coming over, as he would stand in his underwear next to the crock pot to refill his bowl. The professor concluded by remembering Dave, who passed away last Friday, and noted that he would have advised to "relax your brain" in response to any questions.
