Riding Shotgun With Charlie #235 Evered Douglas, Yasuke Fett Black Powder Podcast At SHOT Show 2025, I met Evered in passing. I was doing a show, someone slipped his card into my pocket, and said reach out to this man. We started following each other on the socials. At NRA AM, we had a chance to film a show. Evered didn't get into firearms until he was a father and going through a divorce. He realized that the layout of his place wasn't necessarily the safest. There was potential for some he said/she said going on. So it was time to pursue getting a carry permit in Georgia. His first purchase was a Mossberg 88 shotgun. Maybe not the best choice, but we all start somewhere. We've all been “tactically frugal.” He said he went all “Amazon tactical” buying things like a scope and a light to put on the gun. He admits “this is why you got to research and study.” His first trip to the range with the Mossy was a bit embarrassing. He wasn't sure how to hold it so he ended up putting it under his armpit. This is how he started down the rabbit hole to see that rights are being taken away from us. His taste in gear has also matured since then, too. He moved to a Canick and a Ruger handguns. One of the goals that Evered has is to become an instructor. After his divorce, things were tough. His daughter was only 6 months old when that happened. He wasn't getting enough time with her. But he's looking into getting certified by either the NRA, the USCCA, or by NAAGA. He has been helping some friends get into firearms and helping them along their journey. Taking other courses as a student has helped him get through the hard times that affect divorced people. Georgia is a permitless carry state, but they still issue permits. Back when Evered was getting started on his firearm journey, he still needed to get a permit and there was a learning curve for that, too. The Black Powder Podcast is mainly focused on black society and firearms. He takes the name from a cartridge. The fans are the powder. The bullet is the message he's putting out. He ignites the fans to get the message out. He dropped his first episode on Sept 11, 2020 as a reminder of how we all came together as a country. It was a good year for new beginnings with all that was going on. And thus, a good time to get the new gun owners from 2020 into the fold and learn about firearms, safety, and how and when to use them. Since SHOT Show, he's gone from just an audio podcast to adding video, which he drops on Mondays. Before Black Powder Podcast, he was doing Warbound Radio. It was more towards video gaming. But he plans on rebranding that and bringing it back as a men's positivity podcast. Going through his divorce, he became much more aware how the family court system leans toward the mothers and not the fathers. This past year was Evered's first year at SHOT. A friend helped him get in. He's working on a lot of things and I think he's really getting his message out. He's got the Black Powder Podcast and YouTube channel. He's working to become an instructor. And he's working to reach more people in the community. Favorite quotes: “You realize how many rights and how much stuff they're doing to take stuff away from you.” “If you can't walk it and talk it or line it up and shoot it, why are you even doing it in the first place.” “It was getting me active again, getting all that stupid depression crap off my back.” “The primer is hit, the power is lit.” “Any time you act out of fear, it doesn't end well.” Black Powder Podcast https://blackpowderpodcast.com/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/blackpowderpodcast/ YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@blackpowderpodcast Instagram https://www.instagram.com/blackpowderpodcast Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. Gas Mask Filters and Shelf Life Jarrad and Professor discussed technical issues with microphones and audio setup, then explored gas mask filters and their shelf lives. They clarified that different filters have varying shelf lives, with some lasting up to 20 years in storage, and explained how gamma radiation dissipates over time due to sunlight and natural processes. They agreed to open future shows with questions to encourage audience participation. Radio Show: Wrestling and Planets The meeting began with a brief delay as Jarrad dealt with technical issues. They discussed wrestling events, including Brock Lesnar's return and the handling of past controversies. The group then prepared to record the radio show, addressing listener questions and discussing the definition of planets, including the historical classification of Pluto. They also touched on the International Astronomical Union's updated criteria for what constitutes a planet. Gas Mask Filters and Historical Verification The hosts discussed gas mask filters, addressing a listener's question about their shelf life. They explained that filter longevity depends on the type and manufacturer, and recommended checking with the manufacturer for specific recommendations. The conversation then shifted to historical perspectives on weapons of mass destruction and the challenges of verifying historical information in the modern age, with Jarrad noting that while people have more access to information now, determining its accuracy remains difficult. Firearms Industry Technology Trends The meeting focused on a tech talk segment discussing recent developments in the firearms industry. The Professor highlighted Eotech's acquisition of VK Systems, which provides technology for situational awareness and team tactics. They also discussed the term "uncommanded discharge" and its relation to the Sig P320, noting its recent coinage due to the gun's unique firing mechanism. Professor further explored the shift in the firearms market, particularly CZ's promotion of a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) pistol, the CZ Shadow 2, as an everyday carry option, which represents a departure from the prevailing trend of striker-fired polymer guns. This move by CZ suggests a potential shift in consumer preferences and industry direction. John Benner: Warrior of the Week The meeting focused on honoring John Benner, the founder of Tactical Defense Institute, as the Warrior of the Week. Paul Markel shared personal anecdotes about Benner's contributions to law enforcement training and his invention of the K-Bar TDI law enforcement knife. The discussion highlighted Benner's emphasis on practical training and the importance of providing trainers for law enforcement equipment. Jarrad and Paul also promoted SOTG University's home study courses and residency programs, emphasizing the availability of training resources for students. Self-Defense in Firebomb Attacks The professor and Jared discussed a recent incident where a Virginia city councilman was allegedly set on fire by a man who threw gasoline on him. They debated whether the councilman could have defended himself with a gun if he had been carrying one, and discussed the increasing number of firebomb attacks in recent months. The professor suggested that carrying guns could be a deterrent against such attacks, and mentioned a video by John Stossel that supports their perspective. Gun Ownership and Media Portrayal The discussion focused on the debate around gun ownership and the media's portrayal of firearms. Professor and Jarrad discussed how Hollywood often depicts armed citizens negatively, contrasting with real-life examples of defensive gun use. They also analyzed a situation where California Governor Gavin Newsom was unable to accept a gifted handgun due to his state's strict gun laws, highlighting the complexity and potential absurdity of such regulations. The conversation concluded with criticism of Newsom's hypocrisy and the need for leaders to practice what they preach. BPC-157: Fitness Supplement Insights The discussion focused on BPC-157, a peptide supplement that has gained popularity in the fitness community. Professor shared his personal experience with the supplement, which was recommended to him by Dr. Dan for muscle recovery. He noted that while it was initially difficult to find, it is now available on GNC's website under different names. The conversation also touched on the growing interest in peptides, citing recent mentions by Joe Rogan and Kevin James. Professor emphasized the importance of listening to experienced individuals in the fitness and health field, and encouraged listeners to check out a recent episode featuring Matt Reynolds and to read Nicholas Orr's book. Sig P320 Safety Concerns The discussion focused on safety concerns with the Sig P320 pistol, particularly regarding incidents where the gun has discharged while in holsters. The professors discussed how Sig Sauer released a formal statement addressing various incidents, but the statement did not satisfy their concerns about the gun's safety. As a result, they decided to ban the P320 from their training classes until Sig Sauer provides clearer guidance about what "ready to use" means in their owner's manual. Super Dave's Chili Legacy The professor shared a humorous story about Dave Harrington, known as "Super Dave," who was a military contractor and roommate. The professor revealed that Dave's favorite chili recipe was created by him in 2007, and Dave would eat all the solid ingredients, leaving only chili soup behind. Despite being angry at the time, the professor later included a note in a cookbook suggesting to double the recipe if Super Dave was coming over, as he would stand in his underwear next to the crock pot to refill his bowl. The professor concluded by remembering Dave, who passed away last Friday, and noted that he would have advised to "relax your brain" in response to any questions. Are you as prepared as you think you are? On this episode of https://ready-radio.com, host John Rush is joined by self-defense expert Bill Anderson and Army veteran Brandon Guire to dismantle the myths surrounding active shooter response and personal defense. They kick things off by exposing a dangerous illusion: owning a gun and standing at a range doesn't mean you're ready for chaos. In high-stress scenarios, even the most practiced techniques can crumble. So—what happens when adrenaline spikes, distances collapse, and you're four seconds behind the threat? Bill reveals why his training program throws out rigid techniques in favor of adaptive principles—because real life isn't a shooting stall. It's messy. It's unpredictable. And sometimes, the right move isn't pulling the trigger. With eye-opening scenarios—like clearing a house with Airsoft or trying to save a loved one under pressure—they show how even "trained" students become liabilities without the right mindset. Can you really trust your instincts under fire? Then, things get even more real. What happens when you're attacked by eight people on the street? When fists, screwdrivers, or hammers are more common than guns? Bill and Brandon walk through high-risk situations and explain why going fetal or banking on martial arts might not be the survival move you think it is. Distance, awareness, and escape become the top priorities—and sometimes, being the hero comes at the cost of your family's future. Would your wife and kids want you to go down a martyr, or make it home? As the conversation deepens, they challenge the blind faith many people put in military-style tactics and security personnel. Spoiler alert: that rent-a-guard at your church may not be the savior you think. With spiritual and physical stakes on the line, the message is clear: train yourself, trust your instincts, and put your family's safety first. Because when evil walks through the door, your best defense won't be your title—it'll be your preparation. Tune in now!

The conversation highlights the need for martial arts schools to incorporate soft skills into their curriculum to better prepare students for real-life situations. The hosts share personal anecdotes and insights on how to assess and evaluate potentially dangerous situations, ultimately advocating for a more holistic approach to self-defense training. Soft skills are often overlooked in self-defense training. It's important to assess situations before they escalate. Nobody wins a fight; prevention is key. You can influence situations but not control others' actions. Teaching self-defense should include communication skills. Martial arts schools should incorporate soft skills into their curriculum. Riding Shotgun With Charlie #234 Lynn Webb Eagle Eye Personal Defense On the way home from NRA's Annual Meeting in Atlanta, I did a “swing by” in Memphis then went to Mississippi for a couple shows. Talking with Meekos Beech, I let him know I was going to Oxford, Miss. to interview Lynn Webb. He said “Cornbread”! I guess they knew each other. I love that my Olympic Ring is expanding into their rings. Lynn always wanted to be in law enforcement, even when there weren't a lot of women officers. She did an internship with the sheriff's department and was involved in their reserve program. Then she worked in the jail and university police department. (We were right in Oxford, Miss, so I'm assuming she's talking about Old Miss.) After a decade there, she was a lieutenant and the officer in charge of the motorcycle division. One of the local sheriffs heard she was looking for a job, and he hired her as the first female deputy in their history in 2007. She also spent some years as a school resource officer. One of the other deputies asked her if she wanted to do some IDPA pistol shooting. About half way through the match, she regretted not shooting. Once she got the IDPA bug, she got more involved and went up in her rankings She's competed in several local and national matches. There were times when she even branched out to USPSA and Steel Challenge, too. In 2015, she became an NRA and USCCA certified instructor. When her 25 years on the department were up, the plan was to be a part time firearm instructor. During retirement, she's mostly focusing on training women. She has worked with both The Armed Women of America and A Girl & A Gun. Both are great groups that guide women through gun ownership and training. The real focus of her company, Eagle Eye Personal Defense, was to put female shooters on the correct path and help them learn to shoot and defend themselves and their loved ones. Since she has retirement hours, her schedule for training is flexible. One of the fun things about my “road show” is that I get to learn about licensing in other states. Mississippi is a permitless carry state, but the state does issue permits. Often it's for reciprocity for those who want to travel and carry. They do consider it an enhanced permit so you can carry in more places than if you didn't have a permit. For the enhanced permit, there is additional training, which includes live fire, use of force, and concealed carry statute. Much of what she does is from the USCCA curriculum. The live fire portion is up to the instructor. What Lynn does is start with a big IDPA target to make sure they're hitting the target. Then another target with 3 in.circles and numbers in the circles to make sure they're looking at their sights. Once they're hitting those, they move to a smaller NRA target. Ultimately, the state did not decide on what needs to be fired. The firearms she clients use are often what they own and, even though some want to shoot larger calibers, she will let someone use a .22 if that's what they have. What I find really great around the country is that there are local ranges where people can rent range time and rent guns, too. In Massachusetts, the ranges are private and you have to be a member to shoot there. But all around the country, there's ranges all over the place. She mentioned about five or six just in her country. I really enjoyed hanging out with Lynn. She's a great woman doing wonderful things in Mississippi. Training women, keeping kids safe in schools, and enjoying her retirement. She gave me a short tour of Oxford and its surroundings. She also brought me some Crittenden Distillery single barrel bourbon whiskey. Favorite quotes: “Half way through watching, I regretted not shooting.” “I wanted to make sure the people coming to me had the best tools that they could get…to protect themselves and to be proficient with their firearm.” “If a .22 is all they got and that's what they carry, they should be able to shoot a .22.” “Shooting people call me Cornbread.” Eagle Eye Personal Defense LLC https://www.facebook.com/EEPDT15/ USCCA link to EEPD https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/firearms-training/instructors/mississippi-instructors/eagle-eye-personal-defense-llc-551030/ A Girl & A Gun https://www.agirlandagun.org/ Armed Women of America https://armedwomen.org/ Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. Rich Brown is a retired Marine Corps Officer, former Police Officer, and the Co-Host of America's leading Self-Defense podcast, the American Warrior Show. On today's American Warrior Show, we will be joined by Mike Chesne. Mike founded Tecton after a storied 25-year career in the United States Army Special Operations. At Tecton, as Chairman of the Board and Chief of Innovation, he maintains the corporate vision and mission while continuing to delve deeply into scientific exploration to create new and innovative ways to broaden the scope and breadth of Tecton's product portfolio and intellectual property landscape. At the outset of Tecton, he developed the biochemical makeup and design for the Tecton Ketone molecule. He then methodically worked on the methods, processes, and procedures necessary to formulate and manufacture the molecule from the benchtop to large-scale manufacturing. This process was designed to make it the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly process possible, beginning with organic byproducts and enzymes and finishing with no hazardous waste. Mike founded an emergency medical supply company shortly before retiring from the army. This company developed trauma and emergency medical kits for all branches of the United States Department of Defense, as well as many of our NATO allied countries, and some of these kits are still standard issue in several different military forces to this day. Mike exited this business (Caromeds) and went into global healthcare consulting, working with the Ministries of Health of Afghanistan, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, etc. During this period, he developed the curriculum for the first-ever nursing school in Afghanistan, realigned the entire healthcare system and medical doctor training program in Afghanistan, assisted in the logistics and manning of the Faruq Medical Center in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan, Iraq, and helped the Algerian government design and develop their own version of the Food and Drug Administration. His experience in the United States Army working with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) led him to develop a keen understanding of the scientific method and of cutting-edge science. In 2012, he read about an older DARPA project which involved the search for a nutritional supplement that would improve physical performance and cognition by thirty percent. This project started in 2004 and had been funded for nearly ten million dollars. It never met the full requirement, so it was ended. The end product of that research was an exogenous ketone developed by Oxford University and the National Institutes of Health. He ended his healthcare consulting, went to Oxford, and began working on ketones. He is a motivational speaker who speaks at veterans' events and fundraisers around the country, as well as brain injury and brain health symposiums sponsored by the Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration. He has received many awards and decorations while serving in the army and served in the most prestigious units in the army. He has served in combat throughout the globe and continues to serve veterans through his charity work. Mike is passionate about helping others. He serves on the Board of Directors of multiple veteran non-profits and has served in many roles in these organizations, including Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, Co-Founder, etc. He will continue to serve these deserving people for as long as he is physically able.
