An edited version of this conversation is now available as part of our collaboration with The Yale Review. Read it here: https://yalereview.org/article/shakespeare-and-company-interview-miriam-toewsTrigger warning: This is a tender, funny, and hopeful conversation, that inevitably touches on the subjects of suicide and depression. Please be advised before listening. In this moving and intimate discussion, Miriam Toews joins Adam Biles at Shakespeare and Company to talk about her memoir A Truce That Is Not Peace. Beginning with the question “Why do I write?”, Toews embarks on a deeply personal exploration of creativity, doubt, family, and loss. She reflects on her Mennonite upbringing, the deaths of her father and sister, and the ways in which writing—and laughter—have helped her make sense of pain and love. With warmth, wit, and clarity, Toews examines the limits of narrative, the pull of silence, and the stubborn hope that persists in the face of despair. A meditation on grief, rebellion, and the meaning of home, this is a conversation about how to keep living, and how to keep creating, when life itself resists coherence.Buy A Truce That Is Not Peace: https://www.shakespeareandcompany.com/books/a-truce-that-is-not-peace*Miriam Toews is the author of the bestselling novels Women Talking, All My Puny Sorrows, Summer of My Amazing Luck, A Boy of Good Breeding, A Complicated Kindness, The Flying Troutmans, Irma Voth, Fight Night and one work of nonfiction, Swing Low: A Life. When someone you love is in pain—but can’t say the words out loud—what can you do? Kate speaks with beloved Canadian novelist Miriam Toews (All My Puny Sorrows, Women Talking, A Truce That Is Not Peace) about the silences that shape us: the kind that settle into families, into churches, into whole communities where mental illness is unnamed and suffering goes unspoken. Together, they talk about the long shadow of religious shame, the courage it takes to tell the truth, and what it means to stay present with people we can’t fix. This conversation is tender, fierce, and unflinchingly honest. This episode includes discussion of suicide at the beginning and end of the episode. UFC Rio Oliviera vs GamrotAJ Lets Talk SportsThe main event pits former UFC Lightweight Champion *Charles Oliveira* against **Mateusz Gamrot**, who stepped in after Rafael Fiziev pulled out due to a knee injury. For Oliveira, this is a bounce‑back chance after suffering a first‑round knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in their June title fight. Gamrot enters in good form, having won four of his last five — including respectable victories over names like Rafael dos Anjos and Ludovit Klein. This event is also meaningful because it marks the return of a Fight Night to Rio de Janeiro for UFC — the first since 2015 — adding significant emotional and promotional stakes especially for Oliveira. The matchup presents contrasting styles: Oliveira's dangerous submission game vs. Gamrot's well‑rounded style and experience in both striking and grappling. The outcome could have pivotal implications for both fighters' paths in the lightweight division, especially Oliveira's hopes of returning to title contention.

@therealjames_h @RandyR358 You get to make a decision and monetize that decision without hearing lip from other people. When you get close to the truth, you can anticipate outcomes. We are the only podcast where you benefit monetarily from it. We analyze the losses and look at it for mental health. Elbows are very hard and sharp and they cause cuts in UFC fights. You start to get nervous when you get cut in a fight. You have money in your pocket without having to argue with anybody. Long-term thinking is higher level thinking in business. The evolution of UFC techniques has changed the way fights are approached. Strategic decision-making is crucial in sports betting.
The light heavyweight title is on the line at UFC 320 next week, but the UFC Perth main event could produce a surprising No. 1 contender. Carlos Ulberg takes on Dominick Reyes on Saturday and while the two have taken vastly different paths to get to this spot, what they have in common are a string of results that have pushed them towards title contention. Will the surging Ulberg make it nine straight wins to force the matchmakers to consider a fresh challenger, or will the resurgent Dominick Reyes continue his storybook march towards a second championship opportunity? Ahead of Saturday's Fight Night event at RAC Arena, MMA Fighting's Alexander K. Lee and Jed Meshew figure out where Ulberg and Reyes fit in the picture with Magomed Ankalaev, Alex Pereira, Jiri Prochazka, and Khalil Rountree all in action soon, plus what to make of a 13-fight card that has struggled to sell tickets and to capture the attention of fans. Additionally, the crew debates whether Neil Magny is a future Hall of Fame inductee, who has the chance to steal the show, and we take listener questions and comments. Follow Alexander K. Ade Oladipo and Gareth A Davies have the latest from around boxing! There were two eventful press conferences on opposite sides of the world that have caused headlines, first up it was the turn of Eubank Jnr and Benn who began the build up to their rematch in typically explosive fashion, we hear from Eubank who caught up with Ade afterwardsOver in America Jake Paul and a visibly disinterested Gervonta Davis came face to face for the first time ahead of their exhibition in November, we also found out the rules for the bout and it's safe to say they are heavily in favour of Paul.Plus, we hear from Brian 'Bomac" McIntyre who popped into the talkSPORT studios and ask if it's the beginning of the end for Katie Taylor who has told the WBC she will be taking time away from the sport for personal reasons Hosted on Acast. Remember last year, when for about six months the UFC tried to pretend like UFC: Noche was a big deal — mostly because Dana White had to prove to the (almost entirely nonexistent) haters that he could pull off a fighting event at Sphere? Those times are gone now. This weekend's UFC: Noche card (yes, it is this weekend) is pretty much being left in the dust by the UFC's part in co-promoting the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford boxing match on Netflix. In fact, UFC: Noche has been relegated to regular-ass FIght Night status, with Diego Lopes vs. Jean Silva serving as main event from the Frost Center in San Antonio (grandaddy of them all). Sad, man, sad— though Lopes vs. Silva will probably be a pretty cool fight. Plus, come for Ronda Rousey saying she “ain't fighting at the fucking White House,” stay for Ben Fowlkes' five-minute pro wrestling promo about how bad Jon Jones messed up his six-month “retirement.” Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Good Guy / Bad Guy…Bull$#!t or Nah? That's the question when it comes to Jon Jones and his “retirement” after he doubled down on the VMA's red carpet that he is NOT retired! Plus, find out if the guys are calling BS on Floyd Mayweather fighting Mike Tyson in 2026 and if Ilia Topuria could really knock out Terrence Crawford with one punch. Plus, the Fight Night in Paris was one for the books! So, did Nassourdine Imavov convince us he's the guy to beat Khamzat Chimaev? Does the winner of Reinier de Ridder vs Fluffy Hernandez have a better shot? Are the Fighting Nerds in a slump or were they all hype after two straight losses? And after leaning in to being boo'd in Paris and trolling Jon Jones in the past…do DC & Chael like Tom Aspinall the Bad Guy? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
While Nassourdine Imavov and Caio Borralho are good to go for their pivotal UFC middleweight main event at UFC Paris, one of the most exciting bouts scheduled for Saturday's card is off altogether after Losene Keita badly missed weight for his matchup with Patricio Pitbull. What does the loss of that fight do for the card overall? Ahead of Saturday's Fight Night event at Accor Arena, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and José Youngs react to the news of the former OKTAGON champ's disastrous hiccup on the scale, and where that leaves both he and Pitbull moving forward. Additionally, they preview the Imavov vs. Borralho main event to kick off an important run for the top of the division, discuss the burning questions, if going first before the Reinier de Ridder vs. Anthony Hernandez fight at UFC Vancouver is the better spot to be in, the co-main event between Benoit Saint Denis and Mauricio Ruffy, the low-key bangers, answer listener questions and more. UFC Shanghai is in the books, and while some things certainly happened that were newsworthy, the two biggest storylines came from the final two fights, including Brian Ortega's rough 48 hour stretch from his chaotic weigh in, to his performance against Aljamain Sterling in a lopsided five-round loss. Where does "T-City" go next, and could it be to a promotion outside of the UFC? On an all-new edition of Between the Links, the panel discusses the fallout from the UFC's most recent Fight Night event, what happens with Ortega next, what Sterling gains from the biggest win of his featherweight run, and Johnny Walker stopping Mingyang Zhang in the main event. Additionally, topics may include Saturday's Misfits Boxing 22 event, which features Darren Till vs. Luke Rockhold, Tony Ferguson vs. Salt Papi, and Dillon Danis in an MMA fight, the Raja Jackson — the son of Rampage Jackson — incident in the pro wrestling world, and much more. Join MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Jed Meshew as they discuss the biggest stories in the combat sports world.
