En dat gaat gepaard met toenemende repressie van journalisten, politici en activisten. Maar ook de queergemeenschap wordt steeds harder onderdrukt. Zo kopieerde de regering in Tbilisi een anti-LHBTI wet uit Rusland, waardoor de vrijheid en veiligheid van LHBTI'ers steeds verder in het gedrang komt. Collega Max Smedes reisde naar Georgië en ontmoette daar Giorgi, die dagelijks te maken heeft met de toenemende homohaat in zijn omgeving. De spanningen in Georgië lopen op. Georgië heeft een nieuwe, anti-westerse president maar de oude weigert op te stappen. De ontwikkelingen in Georgië worden worden op de voet gevolgd door Europa. (00:49) Grimmige situatie Georgië Niet alleen de politie, maar ook groepen gewelddadige criminelen, vallen de demonstranten en journalisten in Georgië steeds vaker aan. Het aantal arrestaties is ook enorm toegenomen de afgelopen weken. Om zich te weren organiseren ook de demonstranten zich. Het geweld in land neemt toe: over de grimmige situatie correspondent Jarron Kamphorst. (10:15) Een jaar kettingzaag-politiek in Argentinië De man die op campagne beroemd werd door met een kettingzaag te zwaaien en beloofde de bureaucratie te kortwieken, beweert nu - na zijn eerste jaar -  het land te hebben gered van de economische afgrond. En de Argentijnse president wil door: zijn land moet internationaal op de kaart gezet worden. Waar onder meer zijn radicaal rechtse vrienden in Europa een voorbeeld aan moeten nemen. De Nederlands-Georgische Maia Aduashvili woont al dertig jaar in Nederland maar is teruggegaan naar haar geboorteland om mee te doen aan de protesten tegen de pro-Russische koers van de regering. 'We strijden niet tegen Georgiërs, wij strijden tegen Poetin.' Maia is een van de tienduizenden betogers die al vijf dagen de straten van Tbilisi op gaan om te demonstreren tegen het anti-EU-beleid van de regering en de uitslag van de verkiezingen. De overwinning wordt geclaimd door de partij Georgische Droom, opgericht door de oligarch Ivanishvili, die zijn fortuin verdiende in Rusland. Zijn partij kondigde vorige week aan dat het toetredingsproces tot de EU, waar een grote meerderheid van de Georgiërs voor is, officieel wordt bevroren.  In de podcast vertelt Maia Aduashvili hoe de strijd van de demonstranten gevoerd wordt. Georgië kende al vele dagen van protest dit jaar, maar dit keer lijkt er echt iets te zijn geknapt bij de demonstranten. Ze zijn woedend op de regering, die het toelatingsproces tot de EU officieel heeft gepauzeerd. De president weigert ondertussen haar mandaat neer te leggen, dat halverwege deze maand afloopt. Welke kant gaat het op met Georgië? Daarover vanuit Tbilisi correspondent Jarron Kamphorst. (10:46) Aleppo vreest luchtaanvallen De Syrische oppositietroepen zijn aan een ongekende opmars bezig. Aangevoerd door het islamistische rebellenleger HTS, door sommige landen als terreurorganisatie aangemerkt, lijken ze nu al Aleppo stevig in handen te hebben. Wellicht komen daar de komende dagen nog meer steden bij. Wat betekent dit voor de Syriërs die daar wonen? En op wat voor manier gaat president Assad reageren? Voor eerst in de geschiedenis van de Engelse staatskerk is de voornaamste kerkleider afgetreden. Justin Welby, de aartsbisschop van Canterbury legde de boel erbij vanwege een misbruikschandaal. Het zoeken naar een opvolger is begonnen, net als het zoeken naar een antwoord op de vraag: wat stelt die kerk eigenlijk nog voor? Heeft de kerk nog relevantie in een land dat misschien wel het meest ongelovige is in Europa? Dat is een vraag die voor het eerst serieus wordt besproken in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. De opvolger van Welby wacht een helse taak: want waar de kerk in Engeland en bijvoorbeeld Canada steeds progressiever wordt - denk aan zegeningen van homohuwelijken en vrouwelijke priesters en bisschoppen - is er in de voormalige koloniën van Engeland een veel conservatievere houding. Wereldwijd zijn er zo'n 80 miljoen Anglicanen, terwijl het kerkbezoek in Engeland teruggevallen is naar zo'n twee procent van de bevolking.
