Introductory note on Leif Ericsson (Volume 43, Harvard Classics)
The shadow of a phantom cast upon the cradle of Snorri, the first white child born in America, was a warning of an Indian attack on the settlement of courageous Norsemen who had risked the terrors of unknown seas to visit "Wineland." (Volume 43, Harvard Classics)
In this episode, we talk about Eric Thorvaldsson and Leif Erickson. Better known as Eric the Red, this remarkable man was a Norse explorer, who, according to the medieval sagas of Iceland and Greenland, was the founder of the first settlement of Greenland. His son, Leif Erickson, took after his father, and sailed westward, all the way to North America, to the land he named Vinland, which is today interpreted as being coastal Nova Scotia in Canada. This week, we tell their tales. These are their stories, as written down in the Icelandic saga. It is recounted by Jennie Hall in her book “The Viking Tales”. Fontos mozgások a dollár piacán. Volt munkaerőpiaci adat. A fed azért aggódik, h jók a foglalkoztatási adatok, de nem mutatkozik fellendülés a bérekben. Pénteken beigazolódott, hogy jól döntöttek a kamatemeléskor. Szépen is teljesített a dollár. Pleschinger Gyula (MKB Bank) azért kivárná a végét. A devizapiaci blokkban török líra is hangsúlyos szerepet kap.
Key Trait #1: You must have a vision. We've all heard the saying "You must stand for something, or you'll fall for everything." But what does that really mean? Standing firm when it comes to your company's policies and procedures is all well and good, but it doesn't speak to having a vision. As a leader, you have to learn to communicate your vision or the vision of your company to the people you want to follow you. Key Trait #2: You must have passion. Your employees want passion; in fact, they'll go to the ends of earth because of it, live and die for it. Think of the sailors who traveled with Christopher Columbus or Leif Ericsson to explore uncharted territory. Their leaders' passion inspired them to take on new and very dangerous challenges. Key Trait #3: You must be a team builder. To become a great leader, you must develop a great team or, one might say, a well-oiled machine. But how do you do that? You can start by handing off responsibility to your team and letting your team to run with it. Don't breathe down their necks and don't micromanage, but make yourself available if questions or problems come up. For more leadership information log on to (http://kimiplyler.com)
Archeological evidence proves that Leif Ericsson, the Icelandic Viking, arrived in the New World centuries before Columbus. But what if he was in turn beaten by an Irish monk a full five extra centuries. St. Brendan the Navigator is celebrate for his legendary journey to the "Island of the Blessed," described in the ninth-century work Voyage of St Brendan the Navigator. It tells of how he set out onto the Atlantic Ocean with dozens of pilgrims, accidentally camped out on a whale, and may have reached New England. For centuries historians dismissed his account as fiction. But true accounts sneak here. There are factual descriptions of sheep on the Faroe Islands. Volcanos and icebergs of Iceland are observed. Some archeologists even think there is evidence of a medieval Celtic church in New England. Find out in this episode if Leif Ericsson has lost his status as the first Westerner to reach the New World. TO HELP OUT THE SHOW Leave an honest review on iTunes.
