Will Never Die But You Will”. Puedes escuchar Rebelión Sónica en radio Rockaxis los jueves a las 10 y 22 horas, con la conducción de Héctor Aravena. Tras la edición radial, los capítulos son publicados en Spotify, Google Podcast y Apple Music.

This episode of The Other Side of the Bell, featuring trumpeter Aaron Smith, is brought to you by Bob Reeves Brass. About Aaron : Aaron Smith is an active freelance trumpet player in Los Angeles, CA. He also writes, arranges, and publishes music through his small business, TrumpetSmith Publishing (ASCAP). In addition, he serves on the Hearing Board for the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) Local 47 and on the Board of Directors for the Recording Musicians Association Los Angeles (RMALA). Raised in an Army household with musician parents who played jazz and r&b, and later to receive classical conservatory training, Smith thrives on versatility, consistency, and accurate delivery of musical intent. As a trusted freelance musician in Los Angeles, he performs regularly for live orchestral events, musical theatre, films, independent recording projects, streaming, television, and video games. He has recorded on film/tv projects for celebrated composers including Alan Menken, Bear McCreary, Branford Marsalis, Germaine Franco, Heitor Pereira, Kris Bowers, Rob Simonsen, and Terence Blanchard; on sound recordings for Adrian Younge, Austin Wintory, Charles Gaines, Dr. Dre, Joachim Horsley, John Daversa, and X Ambassadors. He has performed as a sideman in bands on the Academy Awards, Dancing with the Stars, Disney's Encore!, Ellen, the LATE LATE Show, and The Voice. He's also appeared as a sideman onscreen for films including Babylon and Joker: Folie à Deux; and tv commercials for Capital One and Microsoft. He's backed major artists including Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Common, Danny Elfman, Jennifer Holliday, Josh Groban, Kelly Clarkson, Labrinth, Lady Gaga, Sigur Rós, Steve Lacy, and more. He has also performed for contemporary/new music ensembles and series including Alarm Will Sound, the Industry's Hopscotch Opera, Jacaranda, Southwest Chamber Music, wasteLAnd, WildUp, Green Umbrella, Monday Evening concert series, and Noon to Midnight Festival. In the L.A. theater world, Smith performs regularly at the Hollywood Pantages, Dolby, La Mirada Theaters and Pasadena Playhouse. Some notable shows from these theaters with Smith on solo trumpet include Back to the Future, Beetlejuice, Color Purple, Jelly's Last Jam, Les Misérables, Moulin Rouge, Wicked, and the Wiz. As a composer, Smith strives to curate a top-tier experience for brass players especially. The primary focus is exploring boundaries while expressing a story; both through adapted arrangements structurally sound to the composer's intent and through his own original compositions. His work has been performed internationally. He has also created original chamber music commissioned by Marissa Benedict for University of Minnesota, Jim Self for University of Southern California, also by the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and Stomvi-USA. Smith's training as a music performance major includes a Master of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts where he studied with Edward Carroll and John Fumo; and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music with professor James Thompson. He is also a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy with Stanley Friedman.
You've blamed it on the eggnog but that doesn't help your headache - it's Box Day and a little recovery is required - lay down in a dark room, close your eyes as the winter snow starts again. If music was food, this would be fondue. This show is a recap of the best Ambient Music of 2024 - with two exceptions - Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume II - which was reissued in 2024, and Sigur Rós - ÁTTA - released in 2023, but was included as it it fit perfectly with these selections, so I made an exception. It's been many years since Eno's Airport music and the genre has gone from strength to quiet strength by artists including Röyksopp, Sigur Rós, Aphex Twin, Moby, Burial, Church Cords, Nala Sinephro and loads more…including the Godfather Brian Eno. Happy Boxing Day. Listen any day you want, you need your ambient music. In the final episode of Season 2, Charles welcomes Jim Turbert, an American communication technologist and podcaster residing in Rotterdam. Jim reflects on his first concert at age 13, where Ringo Starr's performance left a lasting impression, partly thanks to his music-loving uncle who influenced his musical tastes. He recounts various memorable concerts, including a powerful Afghan Wigs show in Boston, where lead singer Greg Dooley's storytelling made the performance unforgettable, even despite later learning Dooley's on-stage declaration of being on acid was untrue.Jim shares his appreciation for technically proficient artists like Mike Watt and Nels Cline, recounting a particularly electrifying performance that displayed exceptional guitar skills. His experiences underscore the importance of venue acoustics and crowd energy, such as how silence and attention at a Sigur Rós concert added to the immersive quality of the show. Conversely, he describes a disappointing Eagles concert during their 'When Hell Freezes Over' tour due to multiple breaks and inflated egos.A standout anecdote involves Jim losing a shoe while crowd-surfing at a Nirvana concert, only to have Kurt Cobain toss it backstage, leaving him to navigate the chilly New England night unshod. Amid these personal stories, Jim also touches on the broader implications of concert experiences, including nostalgic reflections on hitchhiking back from a Sonic Youth concert with friends and the pure joy of witnessing an early White Stripes performance in a frat house setting. In addition to sharing concert stories, Jim speaks about his podcast, 'Feel Free to Deviate,' which delves into people's career paths and their relationships with success. The podcast captures various personal and professional journeys, underscoring Jim's curiosity and communication skills.BANDS: Afghan Wigs, Aerosmith, Beatles, Black Crows, Blackfoot, Breeders, Clarence Clemens, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Dr. John, The Eagles, Joe Walsh, Led Zeppelin, Living Color, Lounge Acts, Mason Ruffner, Ministry, Minutemen, Nazareth, Nick Cave, Nils Lofgren, Otoboke Beaver, Porno for Pyros, Radiohead, Ringo Starr, Rolling Stones, Sigur Rós, Soundgarden, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Sonic Youth, Ten Years After, the Doors, U2, Walter Trout, White Stripes, Willie Preston.VENUES: T. Indie-Pop aus Finnland im studioeins!

“I didn't see it as a business,” says creator Alma Har'el. “It was a calling that was on my mind. I didn't start as a filmmaker. I was many things on the way there — theater, video arts, music videos, documentaries — it just sort of unfolded over years until I got to make my first film.” Alma's first writing credit is Lady in the Lake, but as a Director, she's known for Bombay Beach, LoveTrue, Jellywolf, and the Shia LaBeouf inspired story, Honey Boy. “At first, it was just an attraction. I can't really explain it — it controlled my dreams.” While hosting a television show, she knew she wanted to direct. “I started with photography, then music videos, and VJ. With VJing, you play live visuals in clubs and music concerts while everyone is high on Molly and acid. No one is looking at the screen,” she jokes, “but you're connected with them in your mind.” “I think that was my first dream, to play visuals as if they were music or an instrument on stage. It was a need to have an extension of my dreams.” This led her to working with musicians like Beirut, Paul Smith, Jack Peñate, Sigur Rós, and even Bob Dylan. Want more? This week is the total piece of work that Wagner dreamed of, with GMWKS co-creator Jordan Morille joining Toby and TJ to take on the Wake! With a baby on his hip, and delving deep into his actor's experience, Jordan popcorn-reads from the second half of 1.4, where we meet disguised ex-nuns, Dirty Daddy Pantaloons, and TJ's 'Wake' tattoo quotation. Then, we consider the gesamtkunstwerk, Dada, Sigur Rós, and the immortal question: just what is Joyce's deal? Progress: 103 pages complete, 525 pages to go; 16.4% read. Spinning Out (another music podcast) We talk to artists about their favorite albums and go on wild tangents. This week on the pod we're talking again with sometimes co-host Sarah Blumenthal. We talked about the 1999 album, "Ágætis byrjun," by Sigur Rós. We also chat about going to see Sigur Rós in Atlanta, the term "post rock" and we ask Google questions about Iceland. Sarah recently released a solo EP under the name Typey. https://selfawarerecords.bandcamp.com/album/typey Also, Sarah & I just released an EP together under the name Hardware XO. It's synth-pop with a slight darkwave vibe. This is part of our series where we try and release new music every month in 2024. So far, so good... https://selfawarerecords.bandcamp.com/album/landline-ep Subscribe to our Patreon here: www.patreon.com/spinningoutpod Follow us on social media -- twitter and instagram (@Spinningoutpod)

Iceland's top streaming artist isn't Björk or Sigur Rós — it's Laufey. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter is redefining jazz for Gen Z, and this year, she won the Grammy for best traditional pop vocal album. Laufey sits down with Tom in studio to talk about her meteoric rise, falling in love with the cello, and what it's like being called Gen Z's jazz icon.
Keith sits down with Marc Byrd to discuss growing up in El Dorado, Arkansas and the difficult circumstances there, reconciling the past, early music influences, Marc's pre-Hammock band Common Children, their history, the end of the band and the formation of Hammock. We also discuss the history of Hammock, their debut LP "Kenotic", the trajectory of their music over the years, accidentally meeting Jónsi of Sigur Rós via Myspace and how that led to the first live Hammock performance, the 2012 double LP "Departure Songs" and some history behind the record, the making of the video for "Breathturn", the "Mysterium" LP written in remembrance of Marc's nephew Clark, the recent Hammock and Yellowcard collaborative LP "A Hopeful Sign", what's next for Hammock and more.
It's the 4th show, dark and long in the short month of February. The psychedelic and strange loom in a cloak of mystery. The Norwegian siren call can be heard in the distance. Wonderful delights and shadowy visions. Admittedly not everyone's cup of Chamomile. Some bangers but just as much experimental and abstract. Takes a growth-mindset pair of open ears and a soul willing to go on a music adventure. Just taking the piddle. But hopefully lost gems are rediscovered along the way and ‘new to you' soon to be favorites are discovered. It's deep dub remixes, extended plays, remixes, edits, and piddle. Featuring Röyksopp, New Order, Two Lone Swordsmen, One Dove, Boards Of Canada, Sigur Rós, Orbital and loads more. I love hosting guest mixes here on LLM and especially love it when they come at the right time. I have been super busy so this curated set comes at the perfect time. This mix comes to us from Portland-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Eli Goldberg, aka Ann Annie. He has a new album coming out in June and a new single, Cottonwood, out now. You can listen to “Cottonwood” on all digital retailers (((HERE))) “Annie takes a transcendental approach to ambient country, coaching modular minimalism into a character that interacts with its surroundings.” - Bandcamp Daily Here is what Eli says about this mix: " 'Quiet Days' is a collection of some of my favorite artists and songs from the last year. Included are a few unreleased tracks from my upcoming album “The Wind”. I imagine listening to the mix while sitting at the coast on a foggy day." Thanks to Eli for putting together this excellent mix. Here's where you can find Ann Annie on the web: Website | Instagram | Facebook | YouTube Cheers! These end-of-the-year lists are usually labeled "Best Albums of the Year" - Best Ambient, Best Jazz, Best Indie, etc. I have been doing that for years. It has been pointed out that calling a list the "Best of the Year" is not only a bit snobby, it's also a little ridiculous because there is so much ambient music released every week that it's impossible to keep up. Plus this list is just my opinion, how can it possibly qualify as the "best"? With that in mind I was moving towards labeling these as my favorite albums of the year. In this case I called it "2023 Rewind" simply because I found a cool stock photo for the cover art. Anyway, on to the mix. These lists and mixes are tough to compile. It's so easy for even good albums to get lost in the shuffle. The ones that definitely did not get lost are my top 5 albums: Crows Labyrinth - Neon Scenes I - Granular Dreams Brendan Eder Ensemble - Therapy Eli Keszler - LIVE [LuckyMe] The Green Kingdom - Ether Hymns [Dronarivm] Rod Modell & Taka Noda - Glow World [13] I probably listened to that Crows Labyrinth album more than any other ambient album this year. It had the advantage of being used as a sleep album...a lot. The album has a great Blade Runner vibe that is retro yet fresh. I love it. The Brendan Eder Ensemble was a new discovery for me. He self described his music as “meditative woodwind arrangements." That would have been enough to get my attention but then toss in a few Aphex Twin covers and I was hooked. Eli Keszler has shown up on my lists before but this one is my fav. It is all live percussion, some sparse, some frantic but somehow it all feels ambient. Even when there's a lot going on it feels like it fits more in the ambient genre than jazz. So good. Michael Cottone has been creating music as The Green Kingdom for a long time. I can always count on him for good quality ambient tracks. "Ether Hymns" is light and beautiful without ever being syrupy or overdone. It sets a perfect tone. "Glow World" from Rod Modell & Taka Noda is pretty much what you would expect from Modell. Lots of synth washes with some buried bass lines and rhythms. It may be nothing new but it's done so well that the atmospheres suck you right in. Here's the full list of my favorite ambient albums of 2023 in alphabetical order: Alex Albrecht - Violet Visionary [ASIP] Alva Noto - Kinder der Sonne (From Komplizen) [Noton] ARROWOUNDS - In The Octopus Pond [Lost Tribe Sound] Bill Seaman, Tim Diagram, Stephen Spera - The World Was Turning Before [Laaps] Brendan Eder Ensemble - Therapy [2023] Claire Deak - Sotto Voce [Lost Tribe Sound 2023] Courtney Barnett - End Of The Day OST [Milk Records] Crows Labyrinth - Neon Scenes I - Granular Dreams Crows Labyrinth- Pulse Mandala - Astral Solstice [Valley View Records] cv313 - Plays Sequential Space [2023] Drawing Virtual Gardens - 22-22 [Lost Tribe Sound] Eli Keszler - LIVE [LuckyMe] Foreign Body Sensation & Justin Maranga - Subterranean Environments [Dune Alter] Hainbach - Voice Magnetic [Seil] Loneward - Willoweald [Stereoscenic] Michael Scott Dawson - Find Yourself Lost [We Are Busy Bodies] Mount Shrine - Lost Loops Collection [Cryo Chamber] Nico Less - Still North Americans - Long Cool World [Third Man Records] Pan American - in daylight dub [Foam On A Wave] Prins Emanuel - Diagonal Musik II [Music for Dreams] PURELINK - Signs [Peak Oil] Rod Modell & Taka Noda - Glow World [13] Saphileaum - Intrapersonal Experience [Good Morning Tapes] Sigur Rós - ÁTTA [Krúnk] Snufmumriko - Havstrakt [Sun Sea Sky Productions] Tapani Rinne - Grey [Signature Dark] The Green Kingdom - Ether Hymns [Dronarivm] Toki Fuko - Spirit Medicine [Astral Industries] William Ryan Fritch - Cohesion [Lost Tribe Sound] Links to each album: https://astrangelyisolatedplace.bandcamp.com/album/violet-visionary https://noton.info/product/n-058/ https://arrowounds.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-octopus-pond https://laaps.bandcamp.com/album/the-world-was-turning-before https://brendaneder.bandcamp.com/album/therapy https://clairedeak.bandcamp.com/album/sotto-voce https://courtneybarnett.bandcamp.com/album/end-of-the-day-music-from-the-film-anonymous-club https://crowslabyrinth.bandcamp.com/album/neon-scenes-i-granular-dreams https://valleyviewrecords.bandcamp.com/album/astral-solstice https://cv313.bandcamp.com/album/plays-sequential-space https://drawingvirtualgardens.bandcamp.com/album/22-22 https://elikeszler.bandcamp.com/album/live https://foreignbodysensation.bandcamp.com/album/subterranean-environments https://hainbach.bandcamp.com/album/voice-magnetic https://altusmusic.bandcamp.com/album/willoweald https://michaelscottdawson.bandcamp.com/album/find-yourself-lost https://nicoless.bandcamp.com/album/still https://northamericanszone.bandcamp.com/album/long-cool-world https://foamonawave.bandcamp.com/album/in-daylight-dub https://prinsemanuel.bandcamp.com/album/diagonal-musik-ii https://purelink.bandcamp.com/album/signs http://13.silentes.it/private_sounds/sps2360.htm https://saphileaum.bandcamp.com/album/saphileaum-intrapersonal-experience https://sigurros.bandcamp.com/album/tta https://snufmumriko.bandcamp.com/album/havstrakt https://signaturedarklabel.bandcamp.com/album/grey https://dronarivm.bandcamp.com/album/ether-hymns https://astralindustries.bandcamp.com/album/ai-34-spirit-medicine https://williamryanfritch.bandcamp.com/album/cohesion I am pretty proud of my self that I managed to squeeze in all 30 albums into this one 2-hour mix. "Ágætis byrjun" by Sigur Rós was released in 1999 but didn't get proper attention until touring with Radiohead in 2000. The Icelandic post-rock band's sophomore album is lead by Jónsi Birgisson's haunting falsetto vocals partially in Hopelandic, a nonsensical language created by the band, is unlike anything from the time period. The album blends ambient, classical, and rock elements, creating a dreamlike and cinematic atmosphere. Each track is like it's own mini-movie, exploring a new sonic landscape that evokes everything from blissful euphoria to introspective melancholy. Hailed as a landmark album that pushed the boundaries of experimental music, the band employ a mix of classical orchestration and modern electronic elements, creating a one-of-a-kind cinematic and atmospheric experience. I just got back from a week in Iceland so naturally I had to make a mix with music from Icelandic artists. The usual suspects are here - Sigur Ros, Johann Johannsson, Bjork, Olafur Arnalds, along with some new additions. It still boggles my mind that the tiny island has produced such amazing music. But now, having been there, I guess it makes a bit more sense because the place is unique. The landscape and spirit seeps into your mind and body like hot water through porous volcanic rock. It's impossible not to fall in love with the people and the natural beauty. Hopefully this mix can be your own mini vaca to Iceland. Cheers! I guess the title of this mix is as straightforward as it gets. This one is a collection of tracks from my favorite ambient albums from the first half of 2023. There's some really good stuff in there and a nice variety. First I'll give my list of favorites with links and then the tracklist of the mix. Cheers to a great second half! The Icelandic band Sigur Rós made a surprise album release on June 16. It's called “ÁTTA,” which means “eight” in Icelandic. It's their eighth studio album, and it features eight tracks heavy with strings. KEXP's Roddy Nikpour immersed himself in the album and brings us this review. On this special edition of All Songs Considered, Bob Boilen speaks with Jónsi, from the Icelandic band Sigur Rós, about ÁTTA, that group's first studio album in more than 10 years. Coming out 26 years after they released their first album, ÁTTA is music the group made over years, first in informal reunions in Jónsi's basement before and during the COVID pandemic, and eventually in collaboration with the London Contemporary Orchestra. The unmistakable singer talks about how it felt to have the band playing together again after a decade and reveals some of the meaning behind the first single from the album.
Ever wonder what it would be like if baby talk could become a whole band? Wonder no longer, friends, because it already happened. Some of you already know who Sigur Rós is. (Or, really, at this point, "was.") The rest of you are going to think Mark and Tyler are entirely fabricating this band from their imaginations. Defying all logic, this was a real thing. In fact, it was a cult and nearly everyone between the ages of 35 - 45 knows at least one person who was in this cult, whether they'd admit it or not. Some of them still have the tattoos. WARNING: this is the closest Mark's head has ever come to exploding while recording an episode. Press play at your own risk... of laughing your ass off. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/yfbspod/message
