À partir du milieu des années 90, le post-rock s'impose comme l'un des mouvements les plus créatifs de la musique alternative. Des groupes issus de différentes scènes musicales repoussent les frontières du rock et explorent de nouveaux territoires sonores. Des formations comme Mogwai, Tortoise, Labradford ou encore Stars of the Lid développent des univers où l'atmosphère et l'émotion prennent souvent le pas sur la structure traditionnelle du morceau. Le post-rock devient alors une musique de paysages sonores, capable d'être à la fois contemplative, minimaliste ou explosive. Certains groupes marquent profondément le genre par l'ampleur de leurs compositions. Godspeed You! Black Emperor crée des œuvres longues et cinématographiques comme Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, tandis que Mono et Thee Silver Mt. Première émission consacrée au post-rock : origines, définition et naissance d'un genre musical hors norme. Le post-rock est un genre aussi fascinant que difficile à définir. Malgré son nom, il ne s'agit pas d'un simple prolongement du rock mais plutôt d'une manière de le dépasser. Né des expérimentations musicales amorcées dans les années 60 avec des groupes comme The Velvet Underground, puis développé dans les scènes indépendantes des années 80 et 90, le post-rock s'éloigne progressivement des codes traditionnels du rock. Plus qu'un genre, c'est un état d'esprit. Les structures classiques – couplets, refrains et solos – laissent souvent place à de longues compositions instrumentales, construites autour d'ambiances, de textures et de crescendos émotionnels. La voix, lorsqu'elle est présente, devient parfois un instrument supplémentaire plutôt qu'un vecteur narratif. Définir le post-rock reste pourtant complexe tant les approches sont variées. On peut passer du minimalisme introspectif de Labradford à l'énergie brute de And So I Watch You From Afar, du jazz expérimental de Tortoise aux paysages sonores cinématiques de Sigur Rós. Tous partagent cependant une même volonté : repousser les limites du rock et explorer de nouvelles formes musicales. Les premières œuvres clairement associées au post-rock apparaissent à la fin des années 80 et au début des années 90. Talk Talk ouvre une voie nouvelle avec les albums Spirit of Eden et Laughing Stock, mêlant pop, ambient et musique classique. De son côté, Slint marque durablement l'histoire du genre avec Spiderland. Enfin, Bark Psychosis contribue à donner son identité au mouvement avec l'album Hex, souvent considéré comme l'une des premières pierres fondatrices du post-rock. Seven-piece American indie rock, post rock band Racing Mount Pleasant walk an easy line from Black Country, New Road to the Mountain Goats, Radiohead to Broken Social Scene, Sigur Rós to Pavement. For our first episode of 2026 we're back in relatively recent times (although longer ago than you'd expect 2010 to be!), where we discuss our favourite songs of the year, including Electropop bangers, Blackened prog, & hour long noise jams, plus unexpected jazz appreciation, Beautiful baritone vocals, and the best mispronounciation of a member of Sigur Rós I've ever heard... We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. The primary focus is exploring boundaries while expressing a story; both through adapted arrangements structurally sound to the composer's intent and through his own original compositions. His work has been performed internationally. He has also created original chamber music commissioned by Marissa Benedict for University of Minnesota, Jim Self for University of Southern California, also by the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and Stomvi-USA.  Smith's training as a music performance major includes a Master of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts where he studied with Edward Carroll and John Fumo; and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music with professor James Thompson. He is also a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy with Stanley Friedman.

“I didn't see it as a business,” says creator Alma Har'el. “It was a calling that was on my mind. I didn't start as a filmmaker. I was many things on the way there — theater, video arts, music videos, documentaries — it just sort of unfolded over years until I got to make my first film.” Alma's first writing credit is Lady in the Lake, but as a Director, she's known for Bombay Beach, LoveTrue, Jellywolf, and the Shia LaBeouf inspired story, Honey Boy. “At first, it was just an attraction. I can't really explain it — it controlled my dreams.” While hosting a television show, she knew she wanted to direct. “I started with photography, then music videos, and VJ. With VJing, you play live visuals in clubs and music concerts while everyone is high on Molly and acid. No one is looking at the screen,” she jokes, “but you're connected with them in your mind.” “I think that was my first dream, to play visuals as if they were music or an instrument on stage.
