A massive cleanup of Washington, DC, has created a whole new feeling in the city and our nation. Fountains restored, water flowing, families gathering, graffiti gone…and what is the result? In the natural and supernatural: restoration and healing, peace and living water. The complainers say it's too expensive and a vanity project. We respond with facts and the words of Jesus. Jackson, active in the fight for equal rights, had tried multiple times to register to vote in Alabama and was denied each time. When Jimmie Lee Jackson saw his frail 80-year-old grandfather rudely turned away from the registrar's office in 1962 after attempting to register to vote in Marion, Ala. He knew he had to join the civil rights movement. On Feb. 18, 1965, he was among more than 200 people participating in a night march in Marion. Before they had walked a block, they were confronted by state troopers and the police chief, who ordered them to disperse.Jackson and his mother huddled for safety in a café. When Jackson's grandfather entered the café bloodied and beaten, the young man tried to take him to a hospital. But they were quickly shoved back by a crowd of club-swinging troopers and terrified marchers. Another trooper pulled his pistol and shot Jackson in the stomach. It was two hours before Jackson arrived at the hospital in Selma. He died eight days later. At one of two services for Jackson, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. told a crowd of 2,000: “Jimmie Lee Jackson's death says to us that we must work passionately and unrelentingly to make the American dream a reality. His death must prove that unmerited suffering does not go unredeemed.”© 2026 Building Abundant Success!!2026 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

Sometimes a bit of wisdom drops in when we least expect it. That happened recently as I was reading an article about American football player Travis Kelce. A frustrated coach once told him, “Everybody you meet in this world is either a fountain or a drain.” You can probably figure out which one Kelce was being! Perhaps all of us have a bit of both elements in us. But at any given moment, we’re likely behaving one way or the other. And our call to follow Jesus means becoming more fountain, less drain. I hear a similar idea in Philippians 2, where Paul challenges us to imitate Jesus’ humility and focus on others. Paul contrasts what drains life from others with what fills them up: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others” (vv. 3-4). A bit later in this chapter, he adds bluntly, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing” (v. 14). What does it look like to be a drain? Being self-focused and arrogant; complaining and arguing. And being a fountain? Paul says of Timothy, “I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare” (v. 20). Are we being more like a fountain or a drain? That’s a question worth pondering as we seek to bless others.

Siegfried & Roy, Masters of the Impossible, and in their time, as famously associated with Las Vegas as the Fountains of Bellagio are. This act of illusion and tigers captivated audiences and really complimented the family friendly entertainment spectaculars coining phrases like “Only in Vegas”. Let's not forget, these are grownups going to see a magic show. But part of the interest was that disaster lurked around every corner, every night. At any moment, things could go horribly wrong. The fact that they didn't sooner may be their greatest magic trick.
This week on Drop the Ball in partnership with Farm to Fountains, we chat the Royals bringing in the fences at Kauffman Stadium. Along with the International signing class the Royals have for 2026, there's a couple good gets by the boys in blue. We also discuss what trade partners are left for the Royals as we think they're not going to make the "big move" this offseason. Cags and Jonathan India have very big seasons for the Royals this year, and we need to take as much pressure off Jac as possible. We end it with a message from Matt: DON'T SETTLE or you will be in the same spot that you were in 2025. And of course we end it with America's favorite segment: Drop the Ball!

Have you heard the news? The City of Rome will now be charging a 2 Euro fee to tourists who want to access the Trevi Fountain. Want to throw your coin in? You're going to have to pony up a few more coins that you'd counted on. This week, we talk about the ways a city can change, thanks to rampant over-tourism as well as other factors, and why seeing our city change before our eyes—for better or for worse—often makes us nostalgic for the past. What else used to be free in Rome that now costs money? (Turns out, a lot.) Tune in to our latest episode, and don't forget to share your thoughts—do you think Rome is right to charge an extra fee for getting close to the Trevi Fountain? Or should outdoor attractions be free no matter what? Every year or so, someone with inside knowledge announces a date upon which the world will definitely end. So everyone hunkers down, and then the only thing that happens is every radio station plays R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." The apocalyptic event you actually can bank on is an annual occurrence called the Holiday Season. Thus, this. Three Wise Guys: M. Spaff Sumsion: Lyrics Chris Mezzolesta: Vocals Bob Emmet: Instruments, production, Christmas Easter eggs More credits: The original song is by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe. "The Little Drummer Boy" is by Katherine Kennicott Davis. "Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire" is by Bob Rivers. "Forty movies with Will Ferrell" is from Fountains of Wayne's "A Road Song." Ivy might be the least likely band to release new music in 2025. After the loss of leader Adam Schlesinger to COVID early in the pandemic, the band had no choice but to end things. Luckily, surviving members Dominique Durand, Andy Chase and Bruce Driscoll came together to flesh out some songs Adam hadn't finished and released the new album Traces of You recently as a proper tribute to their former bandmate. All three of them join us this week to explain how the album came together and if there will be more, what it was like competing for Adam's attention with Fountains of Wayne, and everyone's other side projects. Ivy was special. It's a shame they and Adam are gone, but we have some incredible records to remember them by including Traces of You.
