Jackson, active in the fight for equal rights, had tried multiple times to register to vote in Alabama and was denied each time. When Jimmie Lee Jackson saw his frail 80-year-old grandfather rudely turned away from the registrar's office in 1962 after attempting to register to vote in Marion, Ala. He knew he had to join the civil rights movement. On Feb. 18, 1965, he was among more than 200 people participating in a night march in Marion. Before they had walked a block, they were confronted by state troopers and the police chief, who ordered them to disperse.Jackson and his mother huddled for safety in a café. When Jackson's grandfather entered the café bloodied and beaten, the young man tried to take him to a hospital. But they were quickly shoved back by a crowd of club-swinging troopers and terrified marchers. Another trooper pulled his pistol and shot Jackson in the stomach. It was two hours before Jackson arrived at the hospital in Selma. He died eight days later. At one of two services for Jackson, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. told a crowd of 2,000: “Jimmie Lee Jackson's death says to us that we must work passionately and unrelentingly to make the American dream a reality. His death must prove that unmerited suffering does not go unredeemed.”© 2026 Building Abundant Success!!2026 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

Host: Nadia Cameron, Publisher | Editor – Marketing For Expedia Group country director and marketing activation lead, Philippa Durant, completing an MBA culminated in three leadership pillars reflecting her own personal brand: Kindness, passion and creativity. For Monash IVF head of marketing, Stuart Matthewman, securing a new formal tertiary qualification meant being uncomfortable – especially when squaring up to financial acumen – but also turned into growth and ultimately, compounding learning. And for Fitness and Lifestyle Group EGM of marketing and PR, Sara Dunseath, time at Harvard studying corporate revitalisation – “after a kick up the bum from my CEO” – fostered adaptability, confidence and relevance. These three marketing executives join Mi3 Publisher and CMO Awards program leader, Nadia Cameron in the first of our new series of CMO Awards podcasts for 2026 to explore how formal knowledge is power, and why these mid-career learning experiences have proven of such benefit professionally and personally. There’s no doubt the pressure is piling on marketing executives to be constantly learning and adapting their skill sets to suit rapidly changing marketing, business and customer environments. And it can be exhausting, all three agree – especially when there is such scrutiny of marketing ROI and an onus to know how to always deliver success. But surprisingly, taking the time to tackle formal learning in courses that first appeared to be outside the boundaries of the marketing function gave them renewed energy to tackle tasks at hand. Even more significantly, it elevated their own respect for the very discipline of marketing itself in organisations today. Tune into the conversation here.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Sometimes a bit of wisdom drops in when we least expect it. That happened recently as I was reading an article about American football player Travis Kelce. A frustrated coach once told him, “Everybody you meet in this world is either a fountain or a drain.” You can probably figure out which one Kelce was being! Perhaps all of us have a bit of both elements in us. But at any given moment, we’re likely behaving one way or the other. And our call to follow Jesus means becoming more fountain, less drain. I hear a similar idea in Philippians 2, where Paul challenges us to imitate Jesus’ humility and focus on others. Paul contrasts what drains life from others with what fills them up: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others” (vv. 3-4). A bit later in this chapter, he adds bluntly, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing” (v. 14). What does it look like to be a drain? Being self-focused and arrogant; complaining and arguing. And being a fountain? Paul says of Timothy, “I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare” (v. 20). Are we being more like a fountain or a drain? That’s a question worth pondering as we seek to bless others.

Siegfried & Roy, Masters of the Impossible, and in their time, as famously associated with Las Vegas as the Fountains of Bellagio are. This act of illusion and tigers captivated audiences and really complimented the family friendly entertainment spectaculars coining phrases like “Only in Vegas”. Let's not forget, these are grownups going to see a magic show. But part of the interest was that disaster lurked around every corner, every night. At any moment, things could go horribly wrong. The fact that they didn't sooner may be their greatest magic trick.

This week on Drop the Ball in partnership with Farm to Fountains, we chat the Royals bringing in the fences at Kauffman Stadium. Along with the International signing class the Royals have for 2026, there's a couple good gets by the boys in blue. We also discuss what trade partners are left for the Royals as we think they're not going to make the "big move" this offseason. Cags and Jonathan India have very big seasons for the Royals this year, and we need to take as much pressure off Jac as possible. We end it with a message from Matt: DON'T SETTLE or you will be in the same spot that you were in 2025. And of course we end it with America's favorite segment: Drop the Ball!
This Royals episode brought by Farm to Fountains, highlights Matt Quatraro's extension with the Royals! How important he actually is to this team and we see what is going on on the Hot Stove. Brendan Donovan is brought up, Kris Bubic keeps getting tossed around, and how important Jac Caglianone can be, but we cannot rely on him. They need another BAT! Then we end it with america's favorite segment: Drop the Ball!

Every year or so, someone with inside knowledge announces a date upon which the world will definitely end. So everyone hunkers down, and then the only thing that happens is every radio station plays R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." The apocalyptic event you actually can bank on is an annual occurrence called the Holiday Season. Thus, this. Three Wise Guys: M. fWotD Episode 3148: Poisoning of Abbot Greenwell Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 17 December 2025, is Poisoning of Abbot Greenwell.Around June 1447, the abbot of Fountains Abbey, in Yorkshire, Northern England, John Greenwell, was poisoned by a monk, William Downom (also Downam). By the 15th century, Fountains was the richest abbey in England, and its abbot was an important figure in local political society. The first half of the century saw it wracked with internal strife, including a disputed election which had violent repercussions and, possibly, embezzlement. Greenwell appears to have brought a degree of peace to the abbey upon his election, but he does not seem to have been popular.Downom poisoned a dish of pottage, which he then attempted to feed the abbot while the latter was sick. Greenwell survived, and the case became notorious. Although it took over a year and discussions with Fountains' motherhouse of Cîteaux Abbey, Downom—who may already have been an apostate—was eventually expelled. Greenwell himself remained controversial and was both accused and accuser in local lawsuits, and later incurred the distrust of King Edward IV for his political leanings. Greenwell eventually resigned in 1471; Downom stayed a monk after being expelled from Fountains and may have joined Kirkstead Abbey in Lincolnshire, following which he disappears from the record. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:20 UTC on Wednesday, 17 December 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Poisoning of Abbot Greenwell on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Joanna.

Ivy might be the least likely band to release new music in 2025. After the loss of leader Adam Schlesinger to COVID early in the pandemic, the band had no choice but to end things. Luckily, surviving members Dominique Durand, Andy Chase and Bruce Driscoll came together to flesh out some songs Adam hadn't finished and released the new album Traces of You recently as a proper tribute to their former bandmate. All three of them join us this week to explain how the album came together and if there will be more, what it was like competing for Adam's attention with Fountains of Wayne, and everyone's other side projects. Ivy was special. It's a shame they and Adam are gone, but we have some incredible records to remember them by including Traces of You. ...in which we congregate in autumnal Upper Borrowdale to explore the history of Seatoller. In the company of Steve Uglow – author of Seatoller: History of a Hamlet – we ascend the flanks of High Doat and return to the last Ice Age, when two glaciers carved out a cloistered valley. Reflecting on the likely in-roads made by Norse incomers (did they settle in the valley? maybe), we move into the age of the Monasteries, when lay bothers from Fountains and Furness Abbeys made Borrowdale productive. It was the Dissolution that set Upper Borrowdale on a unique course, the Great Deed of Borrowdale securing the freeholds of farmers, transforming their dwellings and safeguarding the ancient valley-side woods. While the wealthy wad mines of Seathwaite impacted little on back-road Seatoller, the green slate of Honister bought money, miners and cottages to the growing village, and a new private road that opened the pass to motor vehicles. Before subjecting Steve to our quickfire questions (favourite fell – Fleetwith Pike; favourite pub – The Yew Tree; favourite Lakeland season - spring, summer, autumn and winter), we follow Seatoller into the tourist age, and discuss the ‘Cambridge' link with Seatoller House, which gave rise to the remarkable Trinity and Trevelyan ‘Manhunts'. Steve's books are published by Bookcase. We head to an archaeological dig in Rock Springs that's leading to discoveries about the town's former Chinatown and a massacre that took place there over a century ago. Then, we get inside the concert halls in Teton Village where the Grand Teton Music Festival is trying to prove its music isn't just for the highbrow listener. We hear about how a photo camp on the Wind River reservation is becoming a mental health solution for men, and sit down with economist and Jackson Town Councilor Jonathan Schechter to hear why he's holding on to hope for shrinking Jackson's wealth gap following the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.Mid-episode music this week is “Fountains of Rome,” a tone poem from 20th century composer Ottorino Respighi and performed by the Grand Teton Music Festival orchestra.Jackson Unpacked airs locally at 89.1 FM or via live-stream Mondays at 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and Fridays and Sundays at 12:30 p.m. Support Jackson's only nonprofit newsroom by becoming a member of KHOL today.
Here's what we're reading, recommending, and revisiting this week.Catherine's library find is her response to Terri's challenge: Are there etiquette books for children? You better believe there are, with options from dinosaurs and SpongeBob to Clifford and American Girl; and of course, there's a book specifically about manners related to passing gas. Also mentioned: 365 Manners Kids Should Know and Mind Your Manners, B.B. Wolf.Terri's random recommendation is Rhythm and Beat, a shop selling fun music-themed t-shirts including the Things We Did shirt and the My Brain Is Like 80% Song Lyrics shirt (see last week's roundup for a demonstration of how accurate that is). Mentioned: Ridiculously cheap Fountains of Wayne t-shirts, Summerfest. In the archives, we checked in on an episode from 2018 called Pet Patrol. Mentioned: ChuckIt! ball launcher.Next week's lineup: Lost S3 E11, "Enter 77," on Tuesday, August 12The Gilded Age S3 E4, "Marriage Is a Gamble," on Wednesday, August 13Weekly roundup: On vacation until August 28Until then (and anytime you're in need), the archives are available. This episode was recorded before a live studio audience ... of dogs.

I don't know a thing about F1, but if this movie does for F1 what Days of Thunder did for NASCAR, an entire generation of kids are about to dream about being the next Sonny Hayes. And just like Days of Thunder was Top Gun on Wheels, F1 is Top Gun Maverick on…more expensive wheels! Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes - an aging multi series vagabond driver who lives for the thrill of driving and the hope that on the track he can feel God's pleasure upon him. (He didn't say it that way in the movie but that was the gist of it.) As a kid he was coming into Formula 1 when he had a devastating accident. It cost him his future to be the next Senna. He went to drinking spiral, bad marriages, then driving taxis, and then found his way into any racing series that would have him and let him try to tame it. And they all did. Sports cars, NASCAR, Off Road, and now F1. His job in this movie, to get a young hot shot up to speed and save the rag tag racing team they're all there with to save their jobs. It's predictable, it's beautiful, it's fun, and it's fast. In a nutshell: awesome.
