Episode 22:  The Kinesthetic Learning Mode in Knitting and Crochet   Brainy Thing starts:  22:17   Behind the Redwood Curtain starts:  30:45   What we're learning from our knitting.    With her Fantasy Red Cardi by Katherine Foster (see prior posts) behind her and her Among the Wildflowers by Sasha Ball Rives on hold, Catherine turns to two bits of production knitting.  She is working on Failyn Fox Cowl by Heidi May in Lion Brand Thick and Quck for a friend's child and the Chain Mail Hood and Cowl offered by the Utah Shakespeare Festival (Chain Mail Techniques).  With a re-envisioned yarn choice (Patons Metallic in Pewter), Catherine is making this  for a local production of Plays in the Park for the play The Unprincess.   Margaret talks about Laura Nelkin's Beaded Waves Cuff and why Margaret sometimes like buying a kit instead of gatherine various elements of a project herself.   Brainy Thing:   Kinesthetic Learning   The last element of the VAK (Visual Auditory Kinesthetic) learning style discussion (but not the end of the topic itself), Margaret shares general and personal experiences of learners who take in information kinesthetically.   Behind the Redwood Curtain   Catherine talks about the Natural Fiber Fair which is held in Arcata, CA.   Knitting Tip   Margaret shares that designers (Laura Nelkin, for example) and yarn companies often have wonderful tutorials on their sites.

Sickness/allergies galore in the Rush household.  They allready pulled their kiddie pool out for some fun! She is planning Ria’s birthday party. She didn’t get to knit swatch 9 and 10 but she has a new found energy for program after blocking. She sorted through swatches and noticed 7 and 8 are a little bigger. She  used the wrong needle size! She cast on A NEW Family Portrait - A Collection of Three Christmas Stockings byDorene Delaney Giordano pattern and Cascade 220 Sport in Burgundy and Buff. She also cast on cast on a new toe up sock in theGrey Brown Marl Patons Kroy Sock.She worked on some spinning while at the Grand Opening of Stash - A Place for Yarn. Natalie had a great time at the VIK (Very Important Knitters) party at Stash a place for yarn which was the night before the Grand Opening.  She got to see some old friends, and also got to see the next night when she went down to the Grand Opening to do the spinning demo. The girls have a new school year starting. She is prepping for her surgery. Kenny landed a new job and  she discusses the new family schedule. She shares a sweet story of “mommy’s treat from Starbucks.”   Raise your Hand?: (47:25) This week we ask: What kind of projects do you gravitate towards during a stressful time in your life? Natalie enjoys knitting vanilla socks...the simplier the better.  It’s like her mind is full and can’t focus on concentrating on a pattern but she needs the stress relief of knitting. Alicia likes to knit socks but something with a pattern to give her mind a break from what is stressing her.
