New initiative to strengthen repair preparedness for fibre-optic cables in the Baltic Sea. Tykoflex and Baltic Offshore make a joint announcement Background - increasing demands on digital resilience More than 95 percent of global international data traffic is carried through submarine fibre-optic cables. In the Baltic Sea, Tykoflex and Baltic Offshore, together with Lilaco Offshore, have for many years demonstrated a strong and proven capability to rapidly restore damaged infrastructure when incidents occur at a relatively stable and predictable fault rate. New fibre-optic initiative aims to make the repair model more scalable A new program is now being launched to further develop this model into an even more scalable and future-proof repair preparedness system, initially focused on the Baltic Sea. The objective is to enable rapid mobilisation of standby resources when the number of incidents rises sharply. The heightened risk of multiple simultaneous outages driven by the current security environment places new demands on material availability, competence and operational capacity. Sweden's Minister for Civil Defence, Erik Slottner, says: "Strengthening repair capability in the Baltic Sea directly increases our resilience and reinforces Sweden's digital independence by creating more alternative routes when incidents or disruptions occur." The study focuses on: • ensuring rapid access to the right equipment and repair materials • developing training to build and maintain offshore fibre-repair readiness • increasing the ability to quickly release and adapt vessels and equipment that normally operate in other sectors • further developing Tykoflex's universal jointing system, Seaflex®, for future sensors such as SMART cables and actively repeated cable systems Richard Petterson Wigh, CEO of Tykoflex, says: "The Baltic Sea already has a strong repair model that has proven effective in real-world situations. This initiative clearly shows how industry and government can work together to build a more resilient society." Natalie Franzén, CEO of Baltic Offshore, says: "There is a clear need to be able to free up vessel resources, but perhaps even more importantly, operational competence. Experience and know-how take time to build and maintain to ensure practical repair capability, and it is crucial that we work proactively. We are pleased that this study will allow us to further strengthen repair preparedness in the Baltic Sea." EU funding enabling the initiative The initiative is carried out within the programme "How repair preparedness can stimulate resilient and diversified fibre optic cable systems", funded by the Connecting Europe Facility - Digital (CEF Digital). The project is undertaken by Tykoflex and Baltic Offshore as part of the European Union's broader efforts to strengthen Europe's digital infrastructure and resilience. Ongoing information and updates about the project will be published at: www.subsearesilience.com See more breaking stories here. Cliff Mickelson is one of the most recognized voices speaking out about Morgellons Disease, a mysterious and controversial fibre-producing condition reported by thousands yet still debated within mainstream medical circles. As an advocate, researcher, and experiencer, Mickelson has spent years documenting the symptoms, analysing theories, and pressing for scientific transparency regarding this perplexing illness. His work explores not only the physical manifestations of Morgellons but also the psychological, environmental, and biological questions surrounding it — raising profound concerns about overlooked pathogens, emerging diseases, and the human cost of institutional dismissal. Ladies, if you're on a fat loss journey or hormone health journey using GLP-1 medications like semaglutide or liraglutide — and you want the fat loss without feeling like absolute trash — this episode is for you. I break down the 5 biggest mistakes that are sabotaging your results on GLP-1s, including: 1⃣ Why semaglutide is often the wrong first choice compared to daily liraglutide dosing — and how weekly injections kill natural GLP-1 pulsatility, insulin sensitivity, and appetite control. 2⃣ Skipping microdosing and jumping straight to macro doses, which increases side effects and reduces long-term success. 3⃣ Critically low fiber intake — why 30g/day is non-negotiable and how to use psyllium husk and chia to boost GLP-1 naturally. 4⃣ Not having an exit strategy — reverse dieting, habit restructuring, and how people regain everything when they don't plan their transition. 5⃣ Drinking alcohol like you're not medicated — why GLP-1 + alcohol is a blood-sugar, fat-metabolism, and recovery nightmare. If you're serious about losing fat on GLP-1s without wrecking your metabolism, gut, hormones, or rebound weight, I've built a full GLP-1 Microdosing Guide that includes: ✅ Exact microdosing schedule ✅ Full fat-loss meal plan ✅ Full workout plan ✅ Hormone-friendly GLP-1 support strategy DM me "GLP1" on Instagram and I'll send you the full guide.

In this episode, I'm joined by Allison Bryant, Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist and expert in bowel mechanics, pelvic floor dysfunction, constipation, and incontinence. Together, we take a surprisingly fascinating deep dive into how to actually poo correctly—because most people are doing it wrong! We explore: What healthy bowel habits really look like (frequency, consistency, effort) Why bowel movements should be painless, quick, and completely strain-free How stool type reveals what's happening in the gut and pelvic floor The importance of responding to the "call to stool" Early signs something isn't normal (urgency, leakage, excessive wiping, incomplete emptying) Why leakage is not always about weak muscles The role of the pelvic floor and why learning to relax, not just strengthen, is crucial How posture, mechanics, and toilet positioning can transform your bowel routine Evidence-based treatments like biofeedback and how they retrain bowel coordination Fibre, laxatives, stool consistency, and practical tips people can start using today Why multidisciplinary care is essential for long-term gut and pelvic health This episode is packed with practical, clear, and often eye-opening guidance that every human needs to hear. Whether you're a clinician, someone with bowel problems, or simply curious about your gut, this conversation is both empowering and genuinely life-changing. Enjoy my chat with Allison Bryant.
In this fun, laugh-filled and genuinely eye-opening episode, Michelle Ford sits down with women's health nutritionist Emma Bardwell to tackle one of the most underrated pillars of midlife wellbeing: fibre - the true unsung hero of women's health. Between giggles over “poophoria” (yes, it's a thing!) and some serious myth-busting, Michelle and Emma unpack why getting enough fibre and protein is essential - especially if you're using GLP-1 weight-loss injections like Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro. As Emma explains, these medications slow digestion, making fibre even more important for gut motility, nutrient absorption and long-term health.Forget fibre's dusty, boring reputation - this episode gives it a full glow-up. Through perimenopause and menopause, when hormones fluctuate and the gut becomes increasingly linked to mood, energy and resilience, fibre becomes a midlife powerhouse. Michelle and Emma explore how nourishing your gut supports immunity, mental wellbeing, metabolism and overall vitality, and why our midlife microbiome deserves centre stage. With Emma's straight-talking, practical approach, you'll learn simple, everyday ways to boost your fibre intake - no chia-seed obsession required.By the end, you'll never look at your plate (or your bowel movements!) the same way again.
In our previous episode, we explored how fiber is being used in new and unexpected ways beyond traditional paper production. Today, we’re continuing that story, looking at how the same spirit of innovation is transforming the entire pulp and paper industry. For decades, this sector has quietly been a pioneer in bioenergy and biomaterials. Through its evolution from traditional manufacturing sites into modern, self-sufficient biorefineries - and supported by active, long-term forestry that enables the shift from fossil fuels to sustainable energy - it has become one of the world’s largest producers and users of renewable energy from wood-based residues. But what does this transformation mean for the future of energy, sustainability, and even new revenue opportunities? That’s exactly what we’re exploring in this episode, as we ask: How is the pulp, paper, and fiber industry creating future value through biomass, biofuels, and circular innovation? Joining the discussion are: Gustav Melin, CEO and CFO at Mantex AB Wilson Monteiro, Business Line Manager for Pulp, Paper, and Fibre at ABB Roger Östlin, Head of Sustainable Fuels at SCA and CEO of the SCA–ST1 Follow The Process Automation Podcast wherever you get your podcasts, so you never miss an episode. Across Nunavut's Kivalliq region, communities and mine sites still rely on imported diesel for electricity and satellite links for basic connectivity. It's expensive, carbon-intensive, and leaves a strategically vital part of Canada dependent on infrastructure we don't fully control. In this episode of Disruptors: The Canada Project with John Stackhouse, we travel to Nunavut to explore the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link (KHFL) — a 1,200-kilometre, Inuit-led project that would connect Manitoba's renewable grid and Canada-based broadband backbone to five Kivalliq communities and future mining projects. Led by Nukik Corporation under 100% Inuit ownership, KHFL is designed to deliver clean power, high-speed terrestrial connectivity, and Nunavut's first physical infrastructure link to southern Canada.Joining us are Premier P.J. Akeeagok and Anne-Raphaëlle Audouin, who unpack how this corridor could cut diesel use, reduce dependence on satellite networks, strengthen Arctic sovereignty, and create a new model for community-driven infrastructure in the North. Doing carnivore and lost your period? Dead libido? Can't sleep? Hair falling out?Your body isn't against you. Carnivore is crashing your hormones. And your gut microbiome is starving without fibre. In this episode, I break down:
When you hear the word 'carnivore', do you think of lions and bears and sharks, or humans? Steak for breakfast, chicken breasts for lunch and salmon and lamb for dinner. No veg and no carbs. This is just a typical day for someone on the carnivore diet. It's a meal plan that only allows meat, poultry, eggs, fish, seafood, dairy products and water. It's animal-based opposed to plant-based. But why are some people following this diet? And what do nutritionists think about it? The carnivore diet is a type of ketogenic diet. Normally the body uses glucose from carbohydrates as energy, but when there's a lack of this, the liver breaks fat down into ketones. This essentially means the body can fuel itself using fat instead of sugar. Followers of the diet may experience weight loss, especially early on. One reason for this is that protein is highly satiating, so you consume fewer calories. On top of this, cutting out sugary snacks and fizzy drinks has significant health benefits, and when our carb intake is reduced, our stored water levels fall, again helping to reduce weight. Nevertheless, the carnivore diet can't be described as 'balanced' by any stretch, according to health experts. In fact, the British Heart Foundation strongly opposes it, saying there is no scientific evidence that it helps weight loss in the long term, and it's lacking in essential nutrients. They say extreme diets which are low in fibre and high in fat can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Saturated fat increases levels of LDL cholesterol and processed meat is high in salt which can raise blood pressure. Fibre, they say, is necessary andcounteracts all these issues, but it can only be found in 'banned foods' of the carnivore diet – fruits, vegetables, seeds, legumes and wholegrains, for example. On social media you'll find plenty of people showing off their muscles and claiming their brain is working better than ever after weeks of fat and eggs and butter. Influencer Paul Saladino was an advocate of the carnivore diet until he started experiencing some persistent unpleasant symptoms. Speaking on a health and fitness podcast, he recounted heart palpitations, muscle cramps and sleep disturbances. He researched the diet more and concluded it was detrimental to his health and probably "not a great thing for most humans". Most experts recommend balance, such as the Mediterranean diet, which is full of fruits, vegetables, wholegrains and seeds – it even includes meat, fish and eggs – but everything in moderation.大多数专家仍然推荐“均衡饮食”,比如地中海饮食。这种饮食富含水果、蔬菜、全谷物和种子,也包含肉类、鱼类和鸡蛋——但一切都讲究“适量”。

This week on The Nutrition Couch, dietitians Leanne Ward and Susie Burrell tackle two big food questions women are asking right now — and the science behind them. Do You Really Need to Ditch the Dinner-Time Carbs? Why so many of us eat rice, pasta and bread on autopilot — and how to know if your body really needs it. Smart swaps to lighten your dinners without cooking two separate meals. How to balance portions when your partner or kids eat more than you. Real-life hacks for burgers, curries and creamy sauces that still taste amazing. The Fibre That Could Protect Your Liver New research from Nature Metabolism linking inulin — a type of prebiotic fibre — to better liver health and reduced inflammation. What fatty liver actually is (and why it’s not just about alcohol). Easy ways to add more inulin-rich foods like leeks, asparagus and artichokes into your week. Kitchen hacks to save time: how to freeze flavour cubes of onion, garlic and leek for gut- and liver-friendly cooking. The Portion-Control Dessert We’re Loving The Mars Bar frozen dessert bar (yes, really). Why one perfectly portioned treat can work better than “healthy” dessert substitutes. Listener Question: Should You Eat the Dressing in Salad Kits? The verdict on supermarket salad kits — and why those tiny dressing sachets aren’t the problem. How to make them a satisfying lunch or dinner shortcut without the food guilt. Leanne and Susie wrap up with a reminder that balance matters most: simple swaps, not food fear, make nutrition work long-term. We've all been told the same advice for decades: 'Eat more fibre if you're constipated.' From breakfast cereals to bran muffins, fibre has long been the go-to remedy for getting things 'moving.' But new research published in two major international journals, the Journal of Human Nutrition & Dietetics and Neurogastroenterology & Motility has just turned that advice on its head. It turns out that while a high-fibre diet is good for your overall health, the science doesn't actually support it as an effective treatment for constipation. The researchers looked at more than 75 clinical trials and rather than just counting grams of fibre, they focus on measurable outcomes like how often someone passes stools, whether straining occurs, and overall quality of life. They identified a few key foods and supplements that have solid evidence behind them: Kiwifruit – This one topped the list! Studies show it helps improve stool frequency and consistency. Rye bread – Rich in unique fibres and bioactive compounds that appear to support gut movement. Mineral-rich water – Particularly waters high in magnesium, which can naturally draw water into the bowel. Psyllium fibre, magnesium oxide, and certain probiotics – These supplements also showed evidence of helping reduce constipation symptoms. In contrast, general 'high-fibre diets' and popular senna-based laxatives were found to lack convincing scientific support for long-term effectiveness. Constipation isn't just uncomfortable, it can seriously affect quality of life. It's also incredibly common, especially among adults and older populations. Until now, most medical advice has been frustratingly simple: 'Eat more fibre and drink more water.' But the new research suggests that this one-size-fits-all approach is outdated. Fibre is still vital for heart health, gut bacteria, and blood sugar control. But when it comes to constipation specifically, it may not be the magic bullet we've all been led to believe. The Food and Fibre sector claims the education system is letting it down. Leaders from farming, forestry, horticulture, and seafood have joined forces to launch a Food and Fibre Workforce Capability Strategy. They're pushing for tertiary education reform —with an employer-led, work-based learning model— to match real industry demands. Horticulture NZ Chief Executive Kate Scott told Mike Hosking the current model isn't working. She says it tends to favour the volume of learners rather than the value. In today's episode of Heal Yourself with Sarah Dawkins, Jonathan shares his story as a powerful testament to the body's ability to heal itself when given the right nutrition. He recounts a lifetime of struggling with both physical and mental ailments, including hallucinations, sleep paralysis and Raynaud's disease. He tried many conventional approaches, but none offered a lasting solution. It wasn't until he intuitively began eliminating fruits and vegetables and focusing on animal-based foods, without even knowing what a carnivore diet was, that he started to see a dramatic turnaround.Jonathan's journey is particularly resonant with young people who are silently struggling with similar conditions. He emphasizes the importance of going back to a more natural way of living and listening to the body's signals. He also highlights the contrast between his experience and the common advice of using medications to mask symptoms, noting how a simple blood test showed his perfect health after adopting his new diet, much to his doctor's surprise. This episode isn't just about a diet; it's about a holistic approach to health and a return to foundational principles. Jonathan's story challenges the modern dietary narrative and offers hope to those who feel they've exhausted all options. His passion is to spread this message, particularly to a younger generation misguided by trends and quick fixes.Time stamps 00:00 Introduction 07:03 The standard low-fat diet, how it initially improved his health but ultimately made his symptoms worse, leading him to his lowest point.09:07 Discover the wide range of physical and mental health struggles; depression, anxiety, IBS, Raynaud's disease, hallucinations and sleep paralysis.14:12 Rock bottom with a severe IBS attack was the catalyst that drove him to take radical action. 29:03 Perfect blood test results on a carnivore diet but the doctor's skeptical and ultimately dismissive, reaction.37:17 Fibre-free diet helped alleviate constipation and other gut issues, challenging the common belief that fibre is essential for health.42:07 A tip for those struggling with their health is to eliminate processed foods and focus on eating simple, single-ingredient foods.Jonathan's BioJonathan is a 24-year-old Norwegian who struggled with a long list of health issues, including IBS, anxiety, weight issues, addictions, hallucinations, sleep paralysis, Raynaud's and depression. In 2023 Jonathan hit rock bottom. After a major IBS attack, he started experimenting with food and eventually found his way to the carnivore lifestyle without even knowing it existed. SIRO, the wholesale broadband network operator delivering 100% fibre-to-the-building broadband across Ireland, has announced that its network is now live in Tipperary Town. To date, 1,432 homes and businesses in the town have access to the SIRO network, with a further 580 premises expected to go live in 2026. SIRO's rollout in Tipperary Town was delivered in two phases, with approximately 330 premises passed in June and a further 1,102 premises passed in August. The third phase of the rollout will be completed in Q1 2026 with 580 more premises joining the SIRO network. Areas of the town now passed by the SIRO network include Springfield Grove, Saint Michael's Avenue, Rosanna Close, Springfield Crescent, Lacey Villas, Davitt Street, An Dúiche, O'Connell Road, Saint Patrick's Avenue, and Blackthorn Grove. With this latest rollout, SIRO has now passed more than 19,000 premises across County Tipperary. The company's fibre broadband network is already live in towns such as Cashel, Clonmel, Nenagh, Roscrea, Thurles and Tipperary, bringing reliable gigabit connectivity to homes and businesses throughout the county. Earlier this month, SIRO and Vodafone also announced their role as connectivity partners for Roscrea's new REACH Digital Enterprise Hub, which officially opened at the start of September. As the 25th hub to join the SIRO-Vodafone Gigabit Hub Initiative, REACH is supporting growth opportunities for local businesses in Tipperary. The expansion comes at a crucial time, as Ireland prepares for the national copper switch-off, which will see the outdated copper broadband network switched off over the years ahead. SIRO's 100% fibre broadband provides a future-proofed solution, ensuring reliable connectivity for households and businesses ensuring they have high quality connectivity required for decades to come. SIRO's full fibre broadband offers speeds of up to 2 gigabits per second, allowing households and businesses to enjoy seamless online experiences. Customers in Tipperary Town can now order services from SIRO's retail partners, with more premises to follow in 2026. Speaking on the announcement, John Keaney, SIRO Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are delighted to bring SIRO's 100% fibre broadband to Tipperary Town, enabling more than 2,000 premises to access reliable gigabit connectivity. For businesses, world-class broadband is critical, supporting growth, digitalisation, and competitiveness. For households, it underpins everything from remote working and online learning to streaming and gaming. With copper switch-off now on the horizon, SIRO's full fibre network ensures that Tipperary Town is ready for the future."
In this episode of the Food Talk Show, host Ollie Lloyd talks to Clara Latham about creating category-smashing start-ups and her new venture, Deeply. Clara Latham has built her career in some quite radical startups, including Bounce protein balls and Seedlip non-alcoholic spirits. Today, she is focused on what she sees as the most significant consumer health gap: fibre. Like protein 15–20 years ago, fibre is a fundamental but neglected macronutrient: over 90% of people don't hit the ~30g daily target, and one in three struggle with gut issues at any given time. Clara argues that fixing fibre intake is a problem worth addressing. She argues that boosting the intake of prebiotic fibres will ultimately support digestion, immunity, mood, energy, and long-term disease risk. Deeply is her answer: a simple, delicious, routine-friendly way to “close the fibre gap.” The product is a ready-to-drink, smoothie-like prebiotic fibre shot made from whole fruits and vegetables (no concentrates, preservatives or added junk) delivering 7.5g fibre per serving—about 25% of a day's need. It comes in approachable flavours (e.g., carrot-ginger-turmeric; kiwi-spinach-seaweed) as single grab-and-go shots for retail and a seven-measure aluminium bottle for subscriptions. The big idea is changing habits: the bottle is designed to live in the fridge door, so you take your dose at the start of the day. If a health product isn't effortless and enjoyable, people won't take it daily. Deeply is built to be both. Strategically, Clara applies the “halo, then scale” playbook she honed at Seedlip. In early years, you win with narrow-and-deep distribution and high-influence advocates (e.g., Whole Foods, members' clubs, premium cafés, best-in-class retailers) to build credibility, trial, and education. Clara believes that expanding too soon leads to low awareness, a poor rate of sales, and delistings that are hard to reverse. Category creation requires patience, education, and roots before shoots—think bamboo that grows underground for years, then suddenly rises. Looking forward, Clara expects “fibre-called-out” claims to proliferate across foods, just as protein did. But this isn't perceived to be a problem as Deeply is clear on what it can offer. A simple way to hit your fibre goal and that is a win, because when fibre goes up, the gut thrives, and when the gut thrives, everything else tends to follow.
Speed Fibre Group, Ireland's leading telecoms infrastructure provider and the parent company of Enet and Magnet+, has announced the completion of its acquisition of BT Communications Ireland Limited (BTCIL), a business unit of BT and a leading provider of wholesale and enterprise connectivity solutions in Ireland. Integration of the two businesses begins today. The acquisition includes BTCIL's domestic network infrastructure, co-location facilities, wholesale and enterprise customer base, and the internal teams supporting them. These operations will now be integrated into Speed Fibre Group's two brands: Enet, serving wholesale customers, and Magnet+, serving enterprise businesses. By uniting two complementary businesses, Speed Fibre Group is creating one platform with greater scale, deeper reach, and enhanced capability delivering increased choice, better value, and more innovation to customers nationwide. This platform will support the data centre sector, next generation computing and AI requirements. Following the transaction, Speed Fibre Group's network now extends to nearly 10,000 km of fibre, connecting 94 towns and cities, and over 6,000 buildings including more than 2,500 in Dublin and key urban centres. This strengthened footprint positions Enet as Ireland's second-largest wholesale telecoms operator, enabling faster service delivery and providing real competition in the marketplace. The transaction also includes a long-term agreement for BT and Speed Fibre Group to source connectivity from each other, ensuring continuity of service for both organisations and their customers. Peter McCarthy, CEO of Speed Fibre Group, said: "We are delighted to announce that BT Communications Ireland Limited is now officially part of Speed Fibre Group, marking an exciting transformational milestone for our business. Uniting BTCIL and Speed Fibre Group combines market heritage, knowledge and scale, and also restores badly needed competition in the telecommunications space at a national level. By bringing together two leaders in the market, we will unlock greater scale, deeper building connectivity, and the ability to offer customers nationwide increased choice, better value, expanded reach and service excellence. "Importantly, this acquisition also aligns with our long-term plans to future proof Ireland's telecommunications landscape and support Ireland's growing digital economy. Our next-generation infrastructure is designed to support high volume and decentralised data flows essential for sectors like AI, pharma, and cloud services who require fast, reliable, and scalable connectivity." We will continue to focus on delivering robust and innovative connectivity solutions for businesses and communities across the country to meet Ireland's growing digital demands." Speed Fibre Group is owned by Cordiant Digital Infrastructure Limited, a specialist global infrastructure investor with a focus on digital infrastructure. Steven Marshall, Chairman of Cordiant Digital Infrastructure Limited, said: "This acquisition is a fantastic synergy between two of the top three market players in Ireland. It will make Speed Fibre Group more efficient, more competitive and in a better position to roll out even more innovative and better value solutions for customers. "With a proven management team in place, this is a transformational transaction for the Irish telecoms market. We're very much looking forward to working with Speed Fibre Group to continue this investment trajectory so we can support customers, grow the digital industries in Ireland, and, by extension, support GDP and economic growth in Ireland." Did environmental campaigners really contribute to a decline in cotton's global share of fibre production? Well, according to a rather punchy opinion piece in Cotton Grower a couple of months ago, the answer is a resounding, yes. The article claims that environmentalists have been intellectually dishonest and fed a binary narrative of cotton bad, synthetic fibers good….which created pressure from watchdogs and investor ESG mandates…which then led to brands moving away from conventional cotton to synthetics…and as a result we are now awash with cheap synthetics clothing. Now, this is a lot to leave at the door of environmentalists, and this polemic seemed a bit lop-sided, so to balance things out we thought it would be good to talk to Ecotextile News' dedicated Cotton Correspondent Simon Ferrigno, who has also done his fair share of environmental campaigner over the years. Do people like Simon have a case to answer for? In the podcast, we also turn the article's claim on its head - and ask whether the cotton industry should pay more attention to the many environmentalists' trying to make cotton production more sustainable and efficient. The benefits of fibre have been up for debate for a number years now because some people feel much worse and others feel much better when they eat it. This puts some tension between the plant and animal based communities, so I thought we'd settle it here and now. So the question we need to ask isn't “is fibre good?”; but instead we should be asking “is fibre good for YOU right now. And "why or why not?” TOPICS DISCUSSED: Is fibre an essential nutrient? what does fibre do in your gut? why would fibre make your gut better or worse? how much should you eat and how do you introduce it properly? do you need fibre to poop? who should or should not be eating fibre, and why?
