My guest for this episode is Mark Zauss. Mark is back by popular demand for another hang. There are few people who can talk about the physical and mental demands of the modern trumpet player as authoritatively as Mark. His seemingly magical range and power made him a mainstay at Disney's Magic Kingdom with both Future Corp and The Main Street Philharmonic. But when you combine his battle-tested chops with his skills as a licensed clinical psychotherapist, you get the ultimate resource for your trumpet playing woes. Check out what Mark has to say about how the pandemic has affected our mental health, the increase of anxiety in musicians, practical ways to deal with anxiety, focusing on the breath, why things tend to go wrong, how he resets after a tough set, tips to coordinate the mind and body, the breathing process, understanding triggers, reframing, the importance of routine, his approach to warming up, learning to put it all together, learning from your students, and so much more! So pour yourself a big glass, pull up a chair, and let the hang begin! —-------------------------------------------------------------- Want to schedule a lesson with Mark? Nicole Sasser is a truly versatile performer. Trumpeter, singer, quasi comedian. I got the chance to pick her brain on life as a cruise ship performer while she's quarantined thanks to COVID-19 and had a terrific time in doing so. Here's what you'll hear in today's show:-How Nicole first got started on trumpet...4:47-The cruise ships were a callin'...Nicole answered...15:46-How to not suck as a performer...20:45-Differences in pleasing the audience vs. the event promoters...27:30About the guest:Nicole began playing trumpet at age 9, and has been singing all her life. Growing up in the Chicago area afforded her incredible opportunities for music, including performing at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Center with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, and at Lincoln Center as a member of the Youth Jazz Ensemble of DuPage. She graduated from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, then moved to Florida to develop as a freelance artist and produce her own shows for cruise ships. While in Florida, Nicole has performed with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Brevard Symphony Orchestra. She got her Disney start in California, where she was in the All-American College Band. For ten years she has been making people smile at the happiest place on earth, Disney World, performing in the Main Street Philharmonic and Epcot's Candlelight Processional in the Walt Disney Orchestra and as a Fanfare Trumpeter. In 2008, she produced her first solo album with a live band, which launched her career as a headliner, and in 2012 had her first international series of concerts in Sicily, Italy. Nicole's latest project was co-writing all originals with multi-platinum producer Veit Renn, for a pop electronic dance album that she released in 2015.
In today's episode, Scott and Tracey take a look at the Disney Park popular pachyderm-based ride for this month's Coast to Coast Attraction Attack segment. They continue their visit to Fantasyland with park audio of two live entertainment acts - the Pearly Band and the Main Street Philharmonic, finishing up with a visit to Mickey's Philharmagic. Along the way, they call over to the Main Street Cinema, and wrap up the show with a sneak peek of future episodes. Welcome to Disney, Indiana!
The Mad Chatters Podcast | Walt Disney World and Around the Disney Universe
Just about every attraction, restaurant, show, and snack at Walt Disney World has made a Top Ten list at some point, whether it’s the best rides to experience at night, the best ways to use a snack credit, the worst places to take your kids, or something else. But what about the experiences that don’t get talked about at all? What about the offerings that aren’t anyone’s favorite or least favorite but are still worth experiencing? Enter episode 211. On this week’s show, guest Aaron Wallace joins us as we share 15 Walt Disney World experiences that are almost never talked about but are worth checking out if you take the time to notice them. Hear why offerings like Trivia Night at Port Orleans or Main Street Philharmonic just might give your Disney vacation the extra burst of magic it needs. Also on show 211, we look ahead to what’s coming in 2019 around the Disney universe, including blockbuster films, new attractions, and more. Plus, we play the game “Which Came First?” in which we try to remember when certain WDW attractions opened. Come play along now! Be sure to find Aaron on his website or on social media (Twitter: @aaronwallace | Instagram: @awallnotawol) and let him know you enjoyed hearing him on the show! Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can't actually be there. As the winter days seem to draw on forever, I find myself drifting off to my happy place and dreaming of a trip to warm sunny Florida. I can escape this cold gray sky and feel the sun warming me as I stand on Main Street USA and listen as a smile envelopes you from the inside out. Since a Disney trip isn’t actually on the schedule yet, I will have to satisfy the escapist in me with virtual trips, such as through this podcast and A Window to the Magic. So I was listening to WTTM #362 - AACB Music Appreciation and was taken back to my college band days. Now, we were never as good as the All American College Band, but we had some talented folks. I then realized that I never finished the other half of Christophers request. Remember in Memory 087 - Main Street, U.S.A. he said he’d love to hear a marching band too? Well today we’re going to hear one of the best in Walt Disney World. Actually, it might be the only one left in Walt Disney World since the Future Corps drum and bugle corp left years ago (go back to Memory 002 - The Future Corps to hear them again). This Episode was recorded on the last day of my December 2008 trip to Walt Disney World, Mousefest was over, and I decided to end this trip in the same park in which I started the trip, enjoying some of the great live entertainment found in the Magic Kingdom. In particular I wanted to catch a special set by the Main Street Philharmonic, comprised completely of songs from Disney movies, I had recorded the same set a few days previous with mixed results, and with the experience I gained with my new recording device this set came out much better. links The WDWNT family of sites can be found at:http://wdwnt.com/The Let's Talk About Disney Forums:http://www.letstalkaboutdisney.com/LTADForum/index.php The Mousin it up! subsection of LTADhttp://www.letstalkaboutdisney.com/LTADForum/forumdisplay.php?f=64 The Yahoo group for the bigbrian-nc.com site and NC Disney news is at:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/disneypodcast/ Steve Soares fine site of WDW entertainment schedules:http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/ Music Disney Medley Heigh Ho Zip A Dee Doo Dah Bippidi Boppity Boo A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes Heigh Ho When You Wish upon A Star Be Our Guest Mary Poppins practically perfect Medley A Spoonful of Sugar Chim-Chim-Cheree Jolly Holiday Super-Cali-frag-ilistic-expi-ali-docious I Wanna Be Like You SELECTED PHOTOS can be found at:http://www.bigbrian-nc.com/sn49.htm feedback? This long overdue episode is a return to the Magic Kingdom trip report of 11 Oct. 2007. Picking up right where we left off in Episode 39, we quickly head back down Main Street to Town square near the Emporium where we take in a set of the Main Street Philharmonic, and then spend a little time chatting with and listening to Jim on what ended up being one of his "40 minute plus" sets. links The Let's Talk About Disney Forums: http://www.letstalkaboutdisney.com/LTADForum/index.phpThe Mousin it up! subsection of LTAD http://www.letstalkaboutdisney.com/LTADForum/forumdisplay.php?f=64The Yahoo group for the bigbrian-nc.com site and NC Disney news is at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/disneypodcast/Steve Soares fine site of WDW entertainment schedules: http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/ Rebekah Moseley's list of Rod Millers repitoire: http://web.archive.org/web/20060113004509/members.laughingplace.com/rodmiller/songs.htm songs Main Street Philharmonic Strike Up The BandLassus TromboneThe South Rampart Street err... Over two hours of Christmas music from WDW with the Dapper Dans, piano men Jim and Mark, The Main Street Philharmonic, The Harlem Gospel Choir, The Notorious Banjo Brothers and Bob, and cameo appearances of various of Mousefest attendees.
This Episode is a bit of a sneak preview of some of the sounds to be found over the next few months on this podcast having at least one song each from most of the groups I recorded with the exception of two one I noted in the show, The Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corp, the other omission I realized after closing production of the episode the Main Street Philharmonic. Theres is also a full set by one of the groups as I only had one set by Spelmans Glidje and since it has some sound quality issues I thought it would be better to include it here than to try to make it the centerpiece of a later episode. full show notes are at : http://www.bigbrian-nc.com/sn2007-19.htm
