This week, we kick things off with the successful Freedom 250 celebration at the White House. Patriotism, festivities, and enough red, white, and blue to make Uncle Sam ask everyone to tone it down a notch. Apparently, America knows how to throw a birthday party.Speaking of parties, Barack Obama casually revealed that there were some pretty wild gatherings during his White House years. Which naturally leaves us wondering: were these classy soirées, or was somebody playing beer pong in the Lincoln Bedroom? We discuss the comments and speculate on what exactly "wild" means when you're living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Then we head to the golf course, where Phil Mickelson reportedly found himself in the rough after allegedly behaving inappropriately with a woman and getting shown the clubhouse door. Apparently, "playing through" doesn't apply to personal conduct. Finally, across the pond, thousands of people in the United Kingdom took to the streets to voice concerns about immigration, national identity, and the future of their country. We break down the protests, the reactions, and why Europeans seem to have mastered the art of expressing frustration while standing in the rain. From White House celebrations to presidential party stories, golf course drama, and political unrest overseas, this episode has more twists than a British roundabout. So grab your favorite beverage, avoid getting kicked out of any country clubs, and remember: if someone says there were "wild parties" at the White House, everybody immediately starts wondering who was in charge of the playlist.
What if the biggest story in America isn't politics at all?In this episode of The Right Side: After watching the massive UFC event associated with President Trump, Doug Billings realized the real story wasn't the fights, the celebrities, or even Trump himself. The story was the crowd. Why do America's media elites, Hollywood elites, and political elites seem perpetually shocked by election results, cultural trends, and the values of ordinary Americans?Doug explores the growing disconnect between the people who shape America's culture and the people who actually live in America.Drawing on his experiences growing up in Kansas City, years in education, and conversations with thousands of listeners across the country, Doug explains why millions of Americans are rediscovering confidence in their own values, their own observations, and their own common sense. This isn't really a story about UFC.It's a story about family, faith, patriotism, personal responsibility, culture, and why ordinary Americans are no longer willing to let elites define reality for them.Topics include:• The cultural significance of Trump's UFC event• Why media elites keep misreading America• The disconnect between Hollywood and Main Street• Family, faith, and traditional American values• Why ordinary Americans are pushing back• The Great American Pushback and the future of the RepublicThe story isn't politics. Meghan McCain and Miranda Wilkins break down one of the strangest political spectacles in recent memory: a UFC event on the White House lawn complete with military flyovers, motocross stunts, and a crowd packed with celebrities, athletes, and political heavyweights. Then, the conversation shifts to the culture war after a competing anti-Trump event featuring Bette Midler, Jane Fonda, and other progressive activists sparked debate online about which side is connecting with Americans. Later, NewsNation host and bestselling author Batya Ungar-Sargon joins the show to discuss her new book, The Jews and the Left, rising antisemitism, the future of both political parties, and why she believes American politics is undergoing a major realignment. Plus: The controversy surrounding comments made during the UFC event Why Democrats continue struggling with working-class voters Graham Plattner and the latest political fallout JD Vance, Marco Rubio, and the future of the GOP Why Meghan and Miranda are fully invested in the rumored romance between Keke Palmer and Sean Evans A surprising update from Miranda's long home-buying journey And yes, there is also a spirited debate about Tyra Banks, reality TV, and whether America's Next Top Model was even remotely normal. Democrats try desperately to push Hunter Biden as a viable candidate for office as a tale of two Americas emerges for all of us to see over the weekend. Juxtapose the violence and destructive rioting in NYC after the Knicks' NBA championship - burned school buses, destroyed cop cars, 63 arrests, a stabbing, and total filth left in the streets... versus the UFC 250th Celebration fights on the south lawn of the White House. Patriotism, a national anthem flyover by the Navy and Air Force with people enjoying a star-spangled event and leaving safely to go home. Which America do YOU prefer?
The UFC fight at the White House might not have been for everyone, but it was definitely pro-America. Plus, something very evil is trying to take over churches in the US.

This land was made for you and me. As we move towards our nation's 250th birthday, we're taking time to look closely at our country's identity. In this segment, Greg and Holly talk about democracy, patriotism, and nationalism. A lot of the time these days, nationalism and patriotism are mixed. But that's not always a good thing -- it's led many people to harbor some deep-seated negative feelings towards our country. Inside Sources takes a more 'meta' approach to the whole thing.
Today on Uncommon Sense, we're discussing the tragic state of the modern world. From the protests in Ireland to growing frustration across Western nations, many people feel as though their voices are no longer being heard by the institutions that claim to represent them. I'll share why I support the right of people to protest and why I believe the demonstrations in Ireland have resonated with so many people around the world. We'll also discuss what I see as a deeper spiritual crisis affecting modern society. Many of the political, cultural, and social problems we face today are symptoms of a broader moral and spiritual decline, one that cannot be solved through politics alone. In this episode:My thoughts on the protests in IrelandWhy so many citizens now feel disconnected from their governmentsThe growing divide between ordinary people and powerful institutionsThe role of faith, morality, and personal responsibility in rebuilding societyWhy I believe many of today's crises point to a deeper spiritual battleWhether you agree or disagree, this episode is an invitation to think critically about the direction of our culture, our governments, and our future.--https://www.youversion.com/bible-app
America's 250th birthday prompts a crucial reflection: what does patriotism really mean for Christians? Is loving your country compatible with biblical faith, or does it risk misplaced loyalty? Join Dr. John Wilsey, renowned church historian and author of God and Country, as he unpacks the biblical foundations for understanding history, national identity, and patriotism from a Christian perspective.
"America — love it or leave it." That's a bumper sticker slogan that sums up the long-standing tension between patriotism and the exercise of constitutional freedoms. As the nation celebrates America's 250th birthday we explore where healthy patriotism ends and toxic nationalism begins. We discuss how "America First" could sometimes lead to a slippery slope towards tyranny.

Mike dives into one of the most complicated debates facing conservatives today: America’s role in the Middle East and the growing divide within the Republican coalition over Israel, Iran, and the limits of U.S. involvement overseas. He examines President Trump’s candid admission that he confronted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over military actions in Lebanon, arguing that the exchange demonstrates an America First approach rather than blind allegiance to any foreign government. Along the way, Mike takes calls from listeners wrestling with what “finishing the job” in Iran would actually mean, explores the political fallout surrounding South Carolina’s gubernatorial race and redistricting battles, and welcomes special guest Joe Piscopo to discuss America’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration. The episode closes with a sharp look at media narratives, rising political extremism, and why Mike believes patriotism, common sense, and informed voters remain the strongest forces shaping the future of the country. Distraction is everywhere. Our attention span is getting shorter. And mindfulness may be one of the most important skills a father, leader, or entrepreneur can practice today. In this episode of the Fatherhood, Finance and Patriotism series, Colin Roe shares a powerful reminder: proximity does not equal presence.Being in the same room with your kids is not the same as being fully engaged. Being home is not the same as being present. And in a world full of phones, notifications, work pressure, and constant noise, Colin challenges dads to put the distractions down and give their families the attention they deserve.Colin is a husband, father, Roseville native, and real estate leader with Fidelity National Title. In this conversation, he talks about growing up in the Sacramento region, raising two daughters, the role of grandparents and family legacy, and why gratitude, curiosity, generosity, and presence are values he wants to pass down. The conversation also dives into real estate, homeownership, sacrifice, financial discipline, and why buying a home is about more than appreciation. It is about stability, family memories, and building something that lasts.Colin also shares his perspective on patriotism, gratitude for America, civic responsibility, and why the future of the country depends on unity, curiosity, and choosing to focus on what we have in common.______________________________________________________________If this episode inspires you to be part of the movement, and you believe, like me, that entrepreneurs are the answer to our future, message me so we can join forces to support building truly great companies in our region. -Subscribe to my channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCom_... - Mark Haney is a serial entrepreneur that has experience growing companies worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Robert McClure, President and CEO of The James Madison Institute (JMI), joins for a short discussion on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's (R) proposal to exempt homestead properties from property taxes. The conversation also touches on the importance of breaking up the monopoly in public education, civics education in schools, and government involvement in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry. Chuck and Seth explore the ideas of patriotism and national pride, highlighting the differences between Republicans and Democrats when it comes to expressing pride in the country. The discussion reveals a concerning trend among Democrats, who seem to tie their patriotism to the president and the party, rather than to the country itself.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's important, Raddatz tells NPR's Steve Inskeep, “to know the people who are over there performing these duties for us.” In today's episode, Raddatz joins Inskeep to discuss the decades of tough and bloody reporting that culminated in the book, and why she believes in telling veterans' stories both during and after war.To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedaySee pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy
“We must perpetrate the paradox that our American cultural tradition lies in the future.” — Randolph Bourne, via Dominic Erdozain Should Americans be proud of their country? The Anglo-American historian Dominic Erdozain thinks not. His new book, To Love a Country, argues that there's a problem with American patriotism. Americans shouldn't love their country, Erdozain says. It's not a good place. His argument is that American patriotism has the same Puritan root as British imperialism. The idea of a chosen people, a city on the hill, a nation with a special mission is a kind of moral virus. He says it infected America in the great awakenings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and has provided moral cover for slavery, military aggression abroad, and the denial of rights at home. So what America needs, he argues, is a new set of foundational myths laid out by progressives like Jane Addams, Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison and Martin Luther King Jr. This would establish a new kind of American patriotism which is forward-looking and internationalist rather than nativist or exceptionalist. Erdozain even gives Gandhi a shoutout as a model of American patriotism, although one wonders what the Indian pacifist would have made of this. So what will the Atlanta-based Erdozain be doing on July 4? Hiding under his bed, perhaps, rather than enjoying the hotdogs and fireworks. In hiding from hundreds of millions of patriotic Americans. Five Takeaways • The Puritan Root of American Exceptionalism: The idea of America as a chosen people, a city on a hill with a special mission to the world, was not invented in America. It was inherited from English Puritanism. As it spread through the first and second great awakenings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries — what some scholars call the New Englandization of America — it became the canopy under which very different kinds of people sheltered. You didn't have to be a Puritan in any theological sense. You just had to accept the premise that America was righteously exceptional. And once you accepted that, a great deal of scrutiny became unavailable. • Nationalism Is Immune to Failure: One of Erdozain's sharpest observations, via historian Lindsey O'Rourke's work on American interventionism: nationalism can absorb any amount of failure. The defeat in Vietnam, the disaster of Iraq, the failure of Afghanistan — a certain kind of nationalism insulates itself from the lessons these events might teach. It's always someone else's fault. It's always a particular administration's failure, never the national premise. This makes exceptionalism uniquely resistant to the ordinary mechanism of democratic accountability. • Randolph Bourne and the Patriotism of the Future: Erdozain's most original historical recovery: Randolph Bourne, a radical journalist writing during the First World War, who argued that nativism and nationalism were European imports, backward-looking and derivative. Bourne's phrase: “we must perpetrate the paradox that our American cultural tradition lies in the future.” A patriotism faithful to the diversity of modern America — its bustling pluralism, its immigrant energy — cannot be built by looking backward to the founders. It must be built by looking forward to the founders we have not yet had. • Alternative Founders: Addams, Douglass, Garrison, King: Erdozain proposes replacing — or at least supplementing — the canonical founders with a different cast. Jane Addams, who said the question is not what can we teach the bewildered immigrant but what can we learn from them. Frederick Douglass, who held America to account for its foundational promises. William Lloyd Garrison, the abolitionist. Martin Luther King Jr., who went to India to learn about nonviolence from Gandhi. These are the people, Erdozain argues, who offer a patriotism adequate to the diversity and complexity of twenty-first century America. • JFK's Strategy of Peace: The Possibility of Reinvention: Erdozain ends the book with Kennedy's strategy of peace speech at American University in June 1963 — two months before his assassination. By then, Kennedy had come to believe that the impetus for war was coming from within his own country, from his own military and CIA, not from the Soviets. His speech — conceding nothing to communism as an ideology, but immensely generous about the Russian people and about Khrushchev as a leader — is Erdozain's model for what reinvention looks like. The Bay of Pigs taught him something. By the end, he was talking about Vietnam as not America's fight. Lessons can be learned, even in office, even at the last moment. ABC News chief global affairs correspondent and co-anchor of This Week, Martha Raddatz, joins Donny to discuss her powerful new book, The Hero Next Door: Stories of Patriotism and Purpose — and why America's post-9/11 generation of veterans deserves to be called the next "Greatest Generation." From flying 10-hour combat missions in Afghanistan to embedding with troops in Iraq, Martha has spent decades on the front lines building deep relationships with the men and women who serve. In this conversation, she shares unforgettable stories from the book — including Marine Derek Herrera, who was paralyzed in battle and went on to revolutionize medical care for other wounded veterans; Kevin Schaefer and Steve Workman, who survived the Pentagon on 9/11; and Medal of Honor recipient Sal Giunta, whose quiet heroism brought a Korean War veteran to tears at Arlington Cemetery. Martha and Donny talk about: Why service members volunteer — and what drives them when they come home The hidden battle with PTSD after the war ends The devastating exit from Afghanistan and its toll on veterans How these heroes can unite a divided country Why Martha says knowing these people has made her a better journalist — and a better human being Whether you're a military family, a history buff, or simply someone hungry for stories of real American courage, this episode will restore your faith in humanity.

Renaissance English History Podcast: A Show About the Tudors
It's Memorial Day, and I've been thinking about patriotism -- where it comes from, why people feel it so strongly, and whether Tudor people felt anything like it at all. The answer is more interesting than I expected. In 1485, when Henry VII takes the throne after the Battle of Bosworth Field, England is basically a collection of feudal relationships. Loyalty runs to your lord, your family, your region -- not to some abstract idea of "England." There's no standing army, no national church, no real sense of a shared national identity. And then the Reformation happens. And everything changes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
