Progressing to pointe work has long been considered a rite of passage for many aspiring ballet dancers. However, it does not come without risks. Dancing en pointe increases the forces placed on the foot by up to 12x bodyweight, and if progressed too soon can lead to an increased risk of pain and injury.Historically, dancers were thought to be ready to start training en pointe at 12 years of age.  However, with advances in dance science, it is now known that there are many complex factors besides chronological age which can help to determine when it is safe for a dancer to progress en pointe. In this week's podcast episode, I discuss the benefits of having a formal pre-pointe readiness screening assessment, including an update on current research. You'll learn which functional tasks have been validated in the research to have the highest correlation with readiness to progress to pointe work.Pointe Assessment Resources:Pre-Pointe Assessment ToolkitResearch articles mentioned in this episode:Determining Pointe Readiness Readiness in Young Adolescent Female Dancers: A Systematic ReviewPointe Assessment Screen Shah Edison (PASSE) for Pointe Readiness: A Pilot StudyFunctional Criteria for Assessing Pointe ReadinessEpisodes mentioned in this podcast:Episode 4: Pre-Pointe AssessmentsLearn more about Erika Mayall:Follow me on Instagram: @dancephysioerikaLearn more about me on my website: https://www.allegroperformance.comSign up for my newsletter: Click hereSend me an email: hello@allegroperformance.com

From leaving "veto in the toilet" to making sure there's "water on the ground" after washing the rig, many tasks are done simply to prove they were done. In this episode, Nole and Kevin dive deep into this unique aspect of firehouse culture, exploring the line between maintaining perception and acting with true integrity. They discuss whether our actions are driven by a need for recognition or by a commitment to doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. Today, I am joined by author Joe Gagnon. Joe is driven by a simple mission: helping people realize they are capable of far more than they believe is possible. Over the years, he has led six companies as CEO, coached top performers, and pushed himself to physical and mental extremes—completing six Ironman races, running 100-mile ultramarathons, finishing Six marathons on Six continents in Six days, and completing the legendary Badwater 135 ultramarathon through Death Valley. As CEO of Raynmaker, he leads the development of an AI-powered sales platform designed to help small businesses grow smarter and faster. As a high-performance coach, he partners with bold, ambitious leaders to break through their self-imposed limits and lead lives filled with purpose and greater impact.Joe's life and his second book, *Living Intentionally*, are rooted in the belief that growth happens at the edge. It's in the uncomfortable, uncertain, and transformational moments that we find out who we truly are. The principles of grit, grace, and groundedness guide every step he takes. Whether he's building a company, mentoring a founder, or speaking on stage, his goal remains the same: to inspire others to live intentionally by design, not by chance. We talk a lot about finding our own way in life and how we do that with meaning, intention, and love. To connect with Joe:www.linkedin.com/in/joegagnon/substack.com/@joecuriouswww.thehighperformancelife.net/www.instagram.com/thehighperformancelifeTo connect with me:Follow me on Facebook and Instagram @didyoubringthehummusFor more info on my Public Speaking 101 program: https://www.didyoubringthehummus.com/publicspeakingforactivistsContact me here or send me an email at info@didyoubringthehummus.comSign up for meditation sessions hereSign up for The Vegan Voyage, to sponsor the podcast, book meditations packages, or sign up for my Public Speaking program hereJoin my Podcast Fan Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/didyoubringthehummus/To be a guest on the podcast: https://www.didyoubringthehummus.com/beaguest©2025 Kimberly Winters - Did You Bring the Hummus LLCTheme Song ©2020 JP Winters @musicbyjpw

The English worship band Delirious (technically Deliriou5?) certainly changed church music and probably influenced a young Chris Martin of Coldplay, but was their lasting impact on music bigger than Nirvana's? That's the case made in a social media video by our guest today, Gabriel Wilson. Wilson is a veteran of worship bands both as a musician and producer. He once toured with Delirious and has produced Delirious singer Martin Smith in the studio. He also has a deep respect for Nirvana. Andrew and Leah dig into his case for Delirious having a larger impact on music writ large than Nirvana. Gabriel's Video---Do you have a Christian rock story to tell? Want to respond to this episode? Welcome to Hot Topics! Host Gabrielle Crichlow talks to guest Jordan Sutlick about her journey in starting a microschool in Missouri, set to open in August 2027. This episode focuses on microschools, which are small, independent schools that serve a limited number of students, emphasizing personalized learning and community involvement.Jordan shares her reasons for starting a microschool, especially her experiences as a mother of a neurodivergent child. As the founder of Luminaire Academy, she wants to help children who often don't get the support they need in traditional schools. The school will welcome students starting from age 5 and is already a private school that uses an accredited curriculum. We discuss how microschools allow for tailored learning experiences and the 50/50 model that includes both neurodivergent and neurotypical learners, promoting inclusivity. Luminaire Academy will have students in groups of 10, with a total of 7 groups, ensuring a supportive environment for everyone.Jordan highlights her focus on life skills, entrepreneurship, and hands-on learning. We explore how Luminaire Academy will work with local resources and involve parents in their children's education.Additionally, we talk about a learning approach that lets students progress at their own pace and a focus on overall development that includes nutrition and physical activity. Join us for an interesting conversation about new educational ideas and the impact of microschools in Missouri!Who is Jordan Sutlick?Jordan is the founder of Luminaire Academy. Luminaire Academy was born from the belief that our children aren't struggling, they're underserved. Too often, they're labeled with behavioral issues when in reality, they lack proper nutrition, movement, a nurturing environment, and a curriculum that prepares them to be future leaders. As a mother of a neurodivergent child, I saw how traditional schools overlook the needs of kids who learn differently. We're building the school we couldn't find. A place where nature, creativity, resourcefulness, faith, and personalized learning come together. Here, therapy is welcomed, not argued over. Your child's therapist is contracted during school hours. With a 50/50 classroom model for neurodivergent and neurotypical learners, we're creating a truly inclusive community where your child's learning strategy is tailored to their passions and strengths. You can find Jordan Sutlick:On the web: https://www.luminaire-academy.comBy Email: luminaire.outdooracademy@gmail.comBy Phone: (913) 620-2098Watch this episode on YouTube: https://youtube.com/live/yNl2Kz7yFwQRate this episode on IMDB: TBA********************************************Follow A Step Ahead Tutoring Services:On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/astepaheadtutoringservicesOn Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/astepaheadtutoringservicesOn X: https://www.x.com/ASATS2013On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/a-step-ahead-tutoring-services/On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@astepaheadtutoringservicesOn TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@asats2013On Eventbrite: https://astepaheadtutoringservices.eventbrite.comVisit us on the web: https://www.astepaheadtutoringservices.comSign up for our email list: https://squareup.com/outreach/a41DaE/subscribeSign up for our text list: https://tapit.us/cipPJOCheck out our entire "Hot Topics!" podcast: https://www.astepaheadtutoringservices.com/hottopicspodcastSupport us:Cash App: https://cash.app/$ASATS2013PayPal: https://paypal.me/ASATS2013Venmo: https://venmo.com/u/ASATS2013Zelle: success@astepaheadtutoringservices.com Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/hot-topics--5600971/support Original date of episode: July 23, 2025

Today, we are thrilled to welcome back Dr. Devin Duval, OD, FCOVD. Dr. Duval is an optometrist with advanced residency training in pediatrics, vision therapy, and vision rehabilitation. He is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (FCOVD) and a member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA). As an associate professor at Rocky Mountain University and one of only a few optometrists in Utah with this specific expertise, he specializes in helping patients with post-concussion vision problems, strabismus, and other complex visual conditions. In this episode, Dr. Devin Duval returns to the Concussion Coach Podcast for an in-depth discussion on Syntonics and other vision-related aspects of concussion recovery. What is Syntonics? Dr. Duval explains that Syntonics is the application of selective light frequencies to the eyes to treat various vision conditions. It works by balancing the autonomic nervous system, helping patients move out of a chronic "fight or flight" (sympathetic) state and into a "rest and digest" (parasympathetic) state. How It Works: Patients are tested to determine the specific colored filters they need. They then use these prescribed glasses for about 20 minutes a day, looking at a full-spectrum light source like the sky. Treatment typically lasts 1-2 months.Syntonics vs. Other Colored Glasses: Dr. Duval distinguishes between "band-aid" colored glasses for symptom relief (like FL-41 for migraines) and Syntonic glasses, which are a targeted treatment intended to fix the underlying problem.Practical Tips for Listeners:Expanding Visual Fields: Go for walks in open spaces and consciously pay attention to your peripheral vision.Screen Use & Blue Light: The 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds) is crucial. Blue light filters are generally recommended for concussion patients, but quality varies.Computer Work: Reduce visual clutter, avoid fluorescent lighting, and consider a "flicker-free" monitor. High-resolution 4K monitors can sometimes be overstimulating.Finding Help: Dr. Duval emphasizes that many "untreatable" visual problems are treatable with the right specialist. He encourages listeners to seek out a qualified professional. The episode is a powerful reminder that there is hope and help available for persistent post-concussion visual symptoms.Resources MentionedTo Find a Syntonics or Vision Therapy Provider:College of Syntonic Optometry: Find a doctor trained in Syntonics on their website. https://csovision.org/find-a-practitioner/COVD (College of Optometrists in Vision Development): Use the "Locate a Doctor" feature on covd.org and click the button to find a board-certified vision therapy specialist. In this thought-provoking episode, Nole and Kevin welcome their good friend, Pastor Jim Stitzinger, back to the show. They dive deep into a powerful concept from an article Jim wrote: Safety Second. This idea presents a revolutionary paradigm shift, challenging the common prayer to "keep us safe." Jim argues that when we make personal safety our ultimate priority, it can lead down a path of compromise and fear. Instead, the scriptures call us to pray for things like boldness, holiness, courage, and discernment. The conversation explores how this mindset applies directly to the lives of first responders, parents, and anyone striving to live a faith-driven life. They discuss the importance of being prepared for challenges, trusting in God's plan, and focusing on what truly matters: our character over our comfort and our holiness over our health. This is a must-listen for anyone looking to sharpen their prayer life and live with greater purpose and courage.Safety Second post by Pastor Jimhttps://jimstitzinger.com/uncategorized/safety-second-how-should-christians-pray/Crossroads Community Churchhttps://crossroadscommunitychurch.net/about/Debrief on demandhttps://crossroadscommunitychurch.churchcenter.com/people/forms/1048142Big thank you to My Epic and Facedown Records for the use of their song "Hail" in our podcast!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz2RZThURTU&ab_channel=FacedownRecordsSend Nole an email: nolerltw@gmail.comSign up for a class at The Fire Up Program!https://www.fireupprogram.com/programsMyZone facility code for The Fire You Carry: CALIFUS001Get $60 off a MZ-Switch Heart Rate Monitor!https://buy.myzone.org/?lang=enUS&voucher=CALIFUS001-60The Fire Up Progam video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I__ErPW46Ec&t=12s&ab_channel=FireUpProgramThe Fire You Carry Instagram.https://www.instagram.com/thefireyoucarry/Donate to The Fire Up Program.https://www.fireupprogram.com/donateThe Fire Up Program Instagram.https://www.instagram.com/fireup_program/Kevin's Instagram.https://www.instagram.com/kevinpwelsh/?hl=enNole's Instagram.https://www.instagram.com/nolelilley/?hl=en

In this episode, we crack open a practical primer on caddis flies—what they are, how to spot them, and simple ways to fish each stage. We recorded this one from our “satellite offices” in Florissant, Colorado, and it's all about translating river observations into flies that work right now on Southeastern waters.Highlights of the EpisodeCaddis 101, quick and clear: life stages from egg → larva → pupa → adult—and why that sequence matters for your fly selection.Reading the river: vegetation is your friend—it feeds caddis larvae and signals where to drift (and what snags to expect).Soft-hackle smarts: think “legs forward” and a touch more bulk at the head when imitating the pupa rising to the film.Skate the dry: flip the hackle, keep it riding high, and add motion—then trail a soft hackle to cover the pupa coming up behind it.The evening show: look for bouncing egg-laying females in the last couple hours of light; they can trigger some of the most visual eats of the day.Match what's actually there: kick-net a riffle, turn a rock, photograph shucks and adults in scum lines, then tie (or buy) to size/shape/color.Same river, different bugs: expect color and size shifts by section or tributary—one box won't fit the whole tailwater.Field tip: if you're wading and find risers, park and run that skating-dry/soft-hackle combo until the light fades. If you want us to go deeper on bugs or do a tying-focused follow-up, let us know—your ideas drive future episodes. The Charlie Kirk Memorial in Arizona was a singular event that blended religion and politics in powerful ways. It featured a lot of Christian music. Brandon Lake, Chris Tomlin, Phil Wickham, Kari Jobe Carnes, Cody Carnes and Tiffany Hudson all led the 100,000 people in the stadium and estimated 20 million watching online in worship songs. To analyze what it means that these artists performed at this event and how their music functioned in the event, we're joined by Kelsey Kramer McGinnis and David Gate. Kelsey Kramer McGinnis is a musicologist, worship music correspondent for Christianity Today, and co-author of The Myth of Good Christian Parenting: How False Promises Failed a Generation of Evangelicals.David Gate is a poet, writer and visual artist who used to lead worship in England, Ireland and the American South. Welcome to Hot Topics! In this episode, host Gabrielle Crichlow and guest Vincent Bioseh continue their important discussion from Part 1, tackling the critical issue of the scarcity of Christian content for children and the subtle programming that influences young minds. With the rise of indoctrination in various media, it is crucial for parents—especially Christian ones—to actively monitor what their kids watch on TV and the internet.Gabrielle and Vincent emphasize the need to guide children according to the teachings of Proverbs 22:6, which says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." This highlights the importance of teaching kids the right values from a young age.Throughout their conversation, they stress the value of having open talks with kids about their experiences, helping them handle social pressures and moral challenges with confidence. They also suggest using educational resources like Christian cartoons and videos to teach complex yet important lessons in an engaging way.Additionally, they discuss how parents should set a good example for their children. This helps kids build their own personal relationship with God, encouraging them to find their unique connection to faith rather than just following what their parents believe.Join us for this insightful continuation of their conversation, as they share practical advice on how to raise children with strong values in a media-filled world.Who is Vincent Bioseh?Vincent Bioseh is a passionate podcast host, author, and dedicated Christian leader committed to sharing the Gospel and equipping believers to fulfill their God-given purpose. Podcast Summary:Bethany Lewis welcomes Andy Ellison to the Concussion Coach Podcast to share his profound journey with brain injury.  A Colorado native, he has an impressive background in finance, having co-founded and served as CEO of Mountain View Bank of Commerce for 16 years before it was sold. He is now the CFO of the Boone Heart Institute.Andy begins his story by recounting how a seemingly minor concussion in April 2021, sustained by walking into a doorframe, led to debilitating symptoms like an inability to look at screens, severe fatigue, and light and noise sensitivity.A CT scan ordered by his doctor revealed an unexpected and incidental finding: a brain tumor in his left ventricle. This shocking diagnosis began a multi-year journey of monitoring the tumor. The conversation delves into the challenges Andy faced in his high-level career, including how he navigated telling his employer and colleagues, and the blessing in disguise of learning to delegate. He shares powerful insights on:Managing Identity: Using the "just behave" theory to handle frustration and the concept of separating his life into "before" and "after" to stop comparing himself to his old self. The Power of Gratitude: Actively practicing gratitude to reframe difficult situations.Advice for Caregivers: The importance of believing the person with the injury and separating frustration with the situation from feelings toward the caregiver.Using Humor: He even shares his "brain tumor card" as a lighthearted way to explain cognitive hiccups.Maintaining Hope: He references the "Stockdale Paradox"—confronting the brutal reality of your situation while maintaining unwavering faith that you will prevail in the end.Andy candidly discusses the symptoms he still manages today, including an inability to watch videos, bad days that require adjusted expectations, and ongoing fatigue. He ends with a powerful reason for sharing his story: to stop hiding his struggles and to offer himself as a resource and role model for others on a similar path.Resources & Tools Mentioned:Brainwaves App: Brainwave: 37 Binaural Series App Andy uses for relaxation and symptom management. (Note: This is a popular app; link provided for reference.)The "Gap and the Gain" Concept: From the book by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy. Focus on how far you've come (the gain) rather than how far you are from your goal (the gap). The Stockdale Paradox: From Jim Collins' book "Good to Great." The concept of retaining faith that you will prevail in the end, while simultaneously confronting the most brutal facts of your current reality.Ram Dass: A spiritual teacher and author who spoke about his own transformative experience after a stroke. Andy referenced his idea of dividing life into "before and after."Cognitive FX: The clinic where Andy underwent intensive therapy and received the fMRI that showed his tumor was growing. https://www.cognitivefxusa.com/Bethany's Free Guide: "The 5 Best Ways to Support Your Loved One Dealing with a Concussion."
