How hardcore of a Martin/Molloy fan are you?As part of the podcast celebrating more episodes, downloads and you for sticking around, we convinced Martin/Molloy comic book artist Dillon Naylor to come on to talk about his exceptional artwork. Dillon gives us a behind-the-scenes on what it took to convince Tony and Mick to say "yes", as well as the time and effort it takes to put a comic together, as well as inspiration to transfer 'theatre of the mind' to paper. If you are lucky to still have your three issues, dust them off, have a careful re-read and listen to our chat.Check out Dillon's work via his site.We are on all the socials (Twitter, Threads, BlueSky). Tony Martin and Mick Molloy hosting drive on the Austereo network was "must listen to" radio in the late 1990s. It was a ratings smash, rare for a national drive show. It paved the way for Hamish and Andy in the late 2000s and FM drive shows as we know them today. I had no Martin Molloy audio in my archive, but was very keen to feature them here so this audio was lifted from Warren Perso's Youtube page where there is much more comedy gold to be found. Comic Tommy Dassalo is best known for being one half of the Little Dum Dum Club, and Dave reckons Tommy and his podcast partner Karl Chandler are ripe for a Martin/Molloy style bust up. It's all about early 2000s FM breakfast radio comedy stars - and Tommy going to Nova live broadcasts with his dad in his school uniform. Tommy's chosen song is The Man by The Killers hot off their AFL Grand Final show. The Debrief is produced by Nearly. Tony Martin joined the D-Gen - a truly revolutionary FM breakfast show - in 1987, and continued with them until 1992. In 1995 he and Mick Molloy re-imagined the way we would listen to drive radio. They created Martin/Molloy, which became Australia’s first national drive show and dominated the FM landscape for three years. In 2006 he created one of the most talked about radio shows ever, Get This, with Ed Kavalee and Richard Marsland. The show’s fan base is as rabid today as it was a decade ago. In 2017 he released an innovative new show, Childprrof, which is an unprodcued TV sitcom recorded live at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and released as a podcast. Tony’s success is a combination of incredible writing skills, along with the ability to perform his own words, a prodigious work ethic and an obsession with the infinite possibilities of audio. His career is a benchmark in our industry and an inspiration for anyone wanting to make comedy. 'You just don't want to waste people's time... We had this philosophy we wanted to be a show, not a shift... Every bit of it has to be good and surprising'. Game Changers: Radio is a show dedicated to the radio industry. Mick Molloy led The D-Gen, Martin & Molloy and Tough Love, and became one-third of The Hot breakfast with Eddie McGuire, Mick Molloy and Luke Darcy on Triple M in Melbourne. In 2017 he left The Hot Breakfast to join Kennedy & Molloy, a national drive show on Triple M. Mick’s track record over more than 20 years of broadcast is without peer. 'It's that murky border where business and creative meet. You've got to be really strong at that point or you'll get rolled and if you get rolled, your show is going to be shit'.
