Marz Timms is an improviser, stand up, teacher and actor. He is the creator of Pimprov, one of Chicago's longest running improv shows. We talked to him about the Annoyance's style of improv, how to be bigger than the stage, how you can get paid in improv, and the difference between stand up and improv.

"While 2020 has brought on a world pandemic and a national outcry for justice, sometimes we have to laugh to keep from crying," host Dana Michelle says during the opening of the show.  On this episode, she welcomes two friends and comedians, Ron Baker, Jr. and Marz Timms, to discuss the importance of laughter, jokes, and comedy and how it all can bring people together, even in hard times. "Comedians are always funny.  I don't care what the situation is, we can always find humor and funny," says Baker.  "Now it's not going to be funny to everybody.  I don't care if it's death or destruction, part of our coping mechanism is humor." "We immediately look for the joke because you want to get your joke out there before everybody else does," says Timms.  "I was doing jokes about face masks over in Thailand before everybody here started wearing face masks.  I was like, 'Man, when I get back to the states, I'm going to throw a Nike logo on face masks.  Everybody's going to be wearing them."

Marwin "Marz" Timms is a local Chicago comedic improviser who uses his skill not only to inspire his audiences, but also to push himself. Hear what he discovered about himself in the ove ten years he has been studynig this craft.  Chicago  Improv/sketch/standup Timms, a Dadaist in sensibility and “nerdy, yet urban,” will stop at nothing for a laugh. In the coat-and-tie-wearing percussive duo Tony Symbals and Cocoa, the baby-faced Timms plays only a tiny set of cymbals, accompanied by the imposing Keith Smitherman bashing away at a drum kit made for a child. The two take absurdly long, silent onstage bottled-water breaks between numbers. Timms elicits even more squeals with Pimprov, a dressed-to-kill, so-wrong-they’re-right all-black quartet so funny you’ll shoot beer through your nose.  NOW PLAYING: Timms is a member of The Annoyance Theatre.
