Ben McEvoy is an AFL player for the Hawthorn Football Club, and with the AFL season for 2020 just finishing, he has currently played 222 AFL games, is a 2x premiership player and a member of the Hawthorn leadership group, plus at 31 years of age, he is playing some of the best football of his career as he looks ahead to 2021.He was originally drafted to the St Kilda Football Club with pick 9 of the 2007 draft, the same year Matthew Kreuzer was taken at number 1. At just 18 years of age, he made his debut for the Saints in his first year, Rd 13 of 2008 against Fremantle and an opposition ruckman by the name of Aaron Sandilands who just happens to be the tallest player to ever play Aussie Rules standing at 211cm tall.He played 91 games at St Kilda before unexpectedly being traded to Hawthorn ahead of the 2014 season, however it turned out to be a blessing for him as Hawthorn would win the premiership in 2014 and 2015 in his first two seasons at the club, making him a 2x premiership player in the process. While Ben has same great accolades attached to his name now, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing or an easy journey for him as he discusses throughout the episode. He has had to deal with some pretty extradorinaiy situations as an AFL player, patricianly during grand final week. In 2010 when at St Kilda and after playing majority of that season, including then preliminary final, he was dropped for the grand final the following week which was of course a draw, and recalled to play in the grand final replay the following week.In 2014 when at Hawthorn, he didn’t play in the preliminary final, but was called into the side for the grand final and tells a great story about that situation including a call from Chris Fagan and a discussion with Alistair Clarkson as he was on his way to play in the VFL grand final.Throughout the episode, Ben is honest and open as we discuss his initial move from the country to the city to start his career, his nativity as he puts it, his training habits and mindset and how that has evolved over his career, how he attacks the off season and pre season, the grand final years, some turning points an light bulb moments, the traits of some of his great coaches and why his family and farming are pivotal to giving him balance and perspective on his AFL career. Please enjoy this genuine and thorough conversation with Ben McEvoy.

After another injury interrupted season, we are hoping that Kreuze can have a clean run of health. Unfortunately it was announced today that he would be undergoing a knee procedure that will keep him out of action for approximately 4 weeks, in what is yet another setback. It's hard to put expectations on the big man. We know how important he is to our club as a player and person. For me it's just about getting him healthy and as close to 100% as possible. What do you think?
Roy, Calvin and Warnie are back in the studio for the first weekly episode of the podcast and have a range of issues to discuss. Fantasy coaches are reeling from the news that Patrick Dangerfield has been offered a one-week suspension from the Match Review Panel. The second most selected player in Fantasy Classic was cited for his rough conduct on Matthew Kreuzer on Saturday night. If he accepts the one-match ban with an early plea, down from two weeks, 56 per cent of coaches will be making a big call this week on what to do with the Brownlow Medallist. The Fantasy finals work in the same way that the AFL ones do. The top four have a double chance this week, while fifth to eighth face elimination. Strategy for this round can be different from team to team. Curveballs like the Dangerfield suspension, injuries to key players and decisions on who to field or bench will play a key role in shaping the way in each league plays out. Not only for Classic, but for Draft leagues. Picking the right free agents in a time of need can go a long way to deciding upcoming head-to-head battles this weekend. Join Roy, Calvin and Warnie as they help you get the edge over your opponent whether you're aiming for a week off or trying to avoid elimination... or even battling it out in the plate final like Roy is! Riley Beveridge and Sarah Olle take over the FOX FOOTY Podcast this week, with plenty of debate over what sanction - if any - Patrick Dangerfield will be receiving following a tough tackle on Matthew Kreuzer, with Cats expert Ben Waterworth fearing he might be gone...and just how awkward would it be if he polls the most votes, is ineligible, and has to reward the 2017 winner on the night?
Fantasy footy can be a guessing game. You can use the past to help you make decisions on what will happen in the future, but we don't always have a crystal ball to predict what will happen this week or a few weeks down the track. That hasn't stopped Roy putting together his best 22 for the last few rounds. The coach of destROY has looked at the top players per position and has made a call on who have been the best of late and who is likely to keep it going for the remaining five rounds. In defence, Sam Docherty and Taylor Adams quite easily sit in at one and two, but new DEF/MID Connor Blakely also gets a gig with his excellent late season form. Kade Simpson and Rory Laird have been consistent throughout the season with Michael Hibberd showing some great form to round out the back six. The midfield picks itself. Tom Mitchell, Patrick Dangerfield and Zach Merrett are the big three that are must-haves. Josh Kelly has enjoyed a stellar season and we can purchase him in Fantasy for much less than he may be offered in a couple of months when it comes to the trade period. Dustin Martin, Bryce Gibbs and Marc Murphy have rarely put a foot wrong. Brad Ebert, who is often seen as a first half of a season specialist, is among a group of players you could throw a blanket over the be among the best for the next month. The best ruckman, and bargain buy at the start of the season, Matthew Kreuzer is a safe option in the ruck line while Brodie Grundy, sans Mason Cox in the side, slots in at number two. Up forward, despite a lowly showing last week, Roy ranks Steele Sidebottom rank at the top with Jack Macrae, Isaac Heeney and Lance Franklin the go-to guys. He also suggests Elliot Yeo and Travis Boak are safe picks. The Traders discuss Roy's best 22 on this week's episode of the Official AFL Fantasy Podcast and name up some other players in the mix.
