The 1980 F1 World Champion Alan Jones reckons Bondy’s talent could have taken him to global success but he chose to stay local which suited the family man. What it was like working with the legendary Harry Firth and the differences in the way the Factory Holden and Ford Touring Car outfits went about their racing. The world class rally cars he built here and what Ari Vatanen and David Richard’s wanted in those incredible Ford Escorts. Staying at the Captain Peter Janson’s place in Melbourne and driving the Porsche 956 at Sandown. Plus the important fundraising work his wife Robyn did with some of the other wives and partners to improve safety standards. This is an overdue conversation with Colin Bond OAM the Supercars and Australian Motorsport Hall of Famer who still enjoys coming to the track and hanging out in the Team 18 garage with his good friend Charlie Schwerkolt who you can also find in the Rusty’s Garage library. https://www.australianmotorsporthalloffame.com.au/inductees/colin-bond-oam/ Head to Rusty's Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and give us your feedback and let us know who you want to hear from on Rusty's GarageSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We also take a look at Slave 1, and in a jumbo size Craig's Corner the team pick their favourite beyond the toys items featuring the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy!!! So join us to talk Empire Strikes Back bounty hunters. One. Last. Time.
Tickford star and friend of the show Thomas Randle joins us for a special bonus edition of the shortcast ahead of the Adelaide 500 season finale. He’s just returned from an epic trip to the UK hanging out with rally legends Carlos Sainz and Petter Solberg where he got to drive a seriously cool car on the dirt! How he feels about being eliminated at Sandown and some observations on the four who will battle it out for the 2025 Supercars title under this new finals format. Channeling his inner actor for Tickford’s viral vids and some champagne comedy with our mates at Autobarn. We reflect on the passing of Hall of Famer Allan Moffat and the impact he had on the sport along with the importance of celebrating his legacy this weekend. Plus NASCAR sensation Austin Cindric and how he’s settling in ahead of his wildcard appearance down under. Who he thinks will win the F1 title as well as Tom’s time in the commentary box this season for the Shannon’s Speed Series. Chaz Mostert, Ryan Wood, Broc Feeney and Will Brown discuss their weekends at Sandown.
My guest for this episode is writer and researcher Paul A.T. Wilson, who joined me to talk about his ongoing involvement in developments relating to a paranormal encounter that happened on the Isle of Wight in the UK over fifty years ago – that of Sam the Sandown Clown. To describe the events of the initial encounter as unusual is somewhat of an understatement. In 1973, two young children were out playing near Sandown when they met the titular Sam – who was described as wearing a pointy hat, having triangular markings for eyes and a square nose on a pale face and arms and legs that seemed wooden. The children spent some time with Sam in a small hut and spoke with him, after which they left, and both he and his dwelling had disappeared. This encounter eventually featured in a journal of the British UFO Research Association in 1978 after which, the strange events of that day in 1973 faded somewhat, becoming a small part of paranormal history. That was until a few decades later, when Paul was put in contact with someone who claimed to be one of the children who encountered Sam and has been given the pseudonym ‘Fay'. Paul was allowed to meet with Fay and talk to her about her initial encounter with Sam in the process of which she revealed she had met him again on four other occasions. These developments have been part of a renaissance of interest in the Sandown Clown incident, which has seen the adoption of Sam by Sandown as something of a fortean mascot, and him becoming an important part of the islands recent folklore. The interview begins with Paul providing a brief summary of the initial incident, after which we talk about how his own interest in those events started, and how he came to meet with Fay. We discuss the memories she has of her first meeting with Sam, and then go into the subsequent encounters she had with him, exploring the themes they include which may offer some clues as to Sam's true nature. We end by talking about the recent upsurge of interest in the Sandown Clown case, what makes Sam an important part of the Isle of Wight's culture. You can find Paul on Bluesky as Tales of Wihtlore.
