What if the key to success wasn't fitting in—but finally giving yourself permission to stop trying? In this refreshingly raw episode of Legendary Leaders, host Cathleen O'Sullivan sits down with Fiona Fraser—founder of Power PR and former BBC publicist—whose unfiltered honesty about ADHD, identity, and the exhausting performance of "professionalism" will make you question everything you've been told about showing up. Fiona shares what it was like spending years learning to sit on her personality in corporate environments, the casual dinner party moment when two friends diagnosed her ADHD like it was obvious to everyone but her, and why she left TV during COVID to build her own agency. With trademark directness, she explains why she can't do small talk with senior executives when she's already defended their show all weekend, why anger was her go-to ADHD response, and why the spa isn't a luxury—it's nervous system regulation. Together, Cathleen and Fiona explore why "you're not sociable enough" often means "you didn't perform emotional labor we never asked for," the stop-and-drop cycle that leaves you sick on every holiday, and why Married at First Sight at 9pm might be the most important boundary you set. This conversation is for anyone who's ever felt like an alien in open-plan offices, been told to "try harder" with people who treat you terribly, or wondered if leaving corporate means failure—when really, staying stuck might be the only shame worth naming. Episode Timeline: 00:11:02 From BBC to 19 years in television publicity 00:12:52 COVID, motherhood, and leaving TV to build Power PR 00:18:07 The biggest shame isn't failure—it's staying stuck 00:21:21 Breaking free from "work hard" culture 00:27:19 Ambitious vs. too ambitious: fear vs. self-protection 00:32:13 Hiring an assistant and letting go of instant email responses 00:36:32 The casual dinner party ADHD diagnosis 00:38:12 Energy waves with ADHD: ride it or drown 00:41:09 Sensory overload: coughing, sneezing, and rage responses 00:47:24 Feeling like an alien and never quite fitting in 00:50:09 "I can't do small talk"—relationship building for the sake of it 00:53:17 "You didn't try hard enough" after defending their show all weekend 01:01:45 The unashamed ADHD leader who gets results 01:09:09 PR without selling your soul: controlling your message 01:18:38 Final insight: Get yourself unstuck as quickly as possible Key Takeaway: Staying Stuck Is the Real Shame—Not Changing Your Mind: Just because you've had success doesn't mean you can never change again. You can leave corporate, struggle, even go back—none of it is failure. The only shame is staying somewhere that drains you when your days are finite. If you're good, you'll get another job. If you feel stuck, get unstuck as quickly as possible. Boundaries Protect Your Energy—And Your Energy Determines Your Results: For Fiona with ADHD, energy comes in waves: 8-11am peak, 12-3pm crash, 4-6pm comeback. Working effectively means protecting those windows fiercely and accepting that if work doesn't happen during your peak, it won't happen. Boundaries aren't about being difficult—they're about understanding how you actually work and setting up your day so you can deliver. Whether it's hiring an assistant for email or taking Fridays (mostly) off, it's about giving clients better results by protecting what's finite. Recognizing Strengths Matters More Than Performative Relationships: Real leadership isn't about making people go to lunch with executives who treat them badly. It's understanding how your people work, what drives them, and what they're actually good at. Build teams around what clients need and who they'll work well with. When you respect people's strengths and working styles, you get loyalty and results—not resentment and burnout. Your Achievements Aren't Bragging—They're Taking a Moment to Actually See Yourself: When leaders can't recognize their own achievements, they create cultures where no one does. Sharing your story—the hard parts, the barriers you've overcome—isn't "too much information." It's what makes you human. Recognizing what you've created isn't arrogance. It's seeing yourself clearly instead of racing past your own life. Eskimo Joe were always a great band, even though it took most people until their third album, Black Fingernails, Red Wine to realise it.After laying the sonic platform over a couple of EP's and albums, the Fremantle rock outfit decided to shake things up a little when it came to album number three, throwing caution to the wind by escaping the comfortable safety net they had built for themselves in favour of a more expansive sound that would translate even better onto the big stage.History will tell us that the decision was the correct one, with Black Fingernails, Red Wine considered by many to be one of the defining moments in Australian rock music. It also earned Eskimo Joe four ARIA Awards, including Single of the Year, and saw them sell out arenas across the country. The album's brooding tone, ambitious self-production, and emotionally charged songwriting marked a bold evolution from the band's earlier records Girl and A Song Is a City, and fast tracked Eskimo Joe to national identities who have continued to justify their rapid rise by touring relentlessly and keeping the music alive. But it shall always be Black Fingernails, Red Wine that stands as the defining moment of Eskimo Joe's career, and with the album turning 20 next year the only respectful thing for the band to do is tour the hell out of it, which is exactly what they plan to do! Guitarist and founding member Stu MacLeod joined HEAVY to talk about the tour and the enduring legacy of that still famous album."It's pretty surreal to think it's been two decades," he began, smiling cheekily. "I mean, a lot has obviously happened in that time, but it feels like it's just gone by in a flash, you know?"Eskimo Joe will be playing two sets each show, one stacked with fan favourites, and the other dedicated to the birthday album, so we ask Stu if it will be played in order of track listing or mixed up a little."Oh, no, definitely front to back," he stressed. "I think that's part of the joy of getting to play an album in full on stage. When we write a record, it really is a process where we try and map a journey for the listener. It's not just a bunch of songs, and we pick which ones sound good next to each other after the fact. We actually design the album as we go. If there's a gap somewhere of a particular tempo or style or feeling, then we'll say, all right, we've got to write a song to fill that gap. We're actually writing a song. We're actually writing songs to fit the album, as opposed to just playlisting a bunch of songs afterwards to make it sound good."In the full interview, Stu talks more about what to expect from the shows, the decision to space the dates out to only include weekends and having Alex Lloyd as national support. He reflected on the making of Black Fingernails, Red Wine and how they created a sound and record that has resonated on so many levels. He recalled some of the highlights of making the album, what the band initially thought of it, the exclusive 20th Anniversary Cab Sav range of wine coming out next year and more.Tour tickets www.eskimojoe.net/toursBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

The Sandgroper roper. He's a rustler! Wrangler Wallsy and co are out there on their annual muster, lassoing and herding prized young West Aussies back to the Fremantle farm. Time to Restump Podcast the trade parade. The seemingly very focused Freo strategy of enticing quality age profile applicable young west Australians who fill or add to positions of need, continues. So far, we've seen off Liam Reidy and we welcomed home ex-East Fremantle product, Judd McVee, to the Freo family.Under the clever guise of being neighbourly, Wallsy and co orchestrated a position that saw Judd McVee head to Fremantle, essentially for a very fair price, and potentially substantial unders. It unlocked the block that allowed West Coast to get their mature aged defender, Brandon Starcevich. We gave up picks 12, 33, 44 and 50 and received Judd McVee, pick 19, 23 and 46. Liam Reidy has made his way to Carlton with pick 53 and 71 while picks 50 and 68 returned. Nothing to write home about but what more could we realistically expect? You don't have to win every trade. Trade period isn't over yet but you'd imagine there wouldn't be too much more action from a purple perspective, other than Will Brodie heading to Port Adelaide to team up with Josh Carr. But who knows what unfolds in the frantic few moments before the final bell?Has the free agency compensation system gone past the point of repair? The manipulation and exploiting of the seemingly fluid rules, the lack of transparency around decisions made and compensatory awards handed down, suggest it's time to either scrap it altogether or blow it up and rebuild it in a more appropriate manner. Jojo has been banging on about it for years and now it surely seems he'll get his wish. The Chief is still running his one-man campaign to sound out Geelong's Ted Chlohesy. With Switta's often unreliable availability, could Ted be the perfect candidate to mitigate that risk and fill our post-Schultzy forward pressure deficiency? However, we're already in the workshop building the wagon to carry the picks, points and punters for the Chadwick28 Restump campaign ready to roll out next year! As always, we somehow come up with plenty of propaganda to prattle on about. So, as we always say, if you're not pickled or plastered and passed out on purple, your performance isn't presentable. Parting ways with our popular purple people is particularly painful this year. 674 games of experience and 3 meaningful contributors. Time to Restump Podcast all the Docker developments.Any of us may momentarily win an aging process battle, but none of us win the war. While Jimmy Aish would have it in him to go around again, Nat Fyfe and Sonny Walters were formidable in their individual efforts to prolong the inevitable. But it does little to ease the pain of having to say goodbye. However, the cycle of purple life continues and the Freo show must go on. They're certainly not the first three we've had to watch disappear into the horizon and they won't be the last. This fast paced, often ruthless industry doesn't allow for long periods of mourning or reflection. The season's dust is barely settled, the send offs seemed shortened and we suddenly find ourselves in Brownlow medal, draft and trade talk territory. Almost in an instant the conversation switches from ‘who we're losing' to ‘who will take their place.' On some level it feels a little disrespectful, like we've moved on too soon. But such is the nature of the AFL beast. Were Andy Brayshaw and Caleb Serong's dominance of Fremantle's Brownlow votes a true reflection of our group's individual contributions, or was it simply a product of the ‘midfielders' award? Both had very good seasons, but you're trying to tell me the All-Australian jacket wearing Jordan Clark had just a 2-game polling, 4 vote total season? Really? In terms of personnel going forward, what do we need to compliment the list to take another step forward in 2026?With Will Brody and Liam Reidy requesting trades, Quinton Narkle joining the retirees and the unlucky Jack Delean and Odin Jones suffering delisting, it has opened up a substantial 8 list spots so far.The grapevine chatter regarding the possible departure of Sean Darcy just won't quieten down. Is it a case of where there's smoke there's fire or is it all smoke and fiery mirrors? What do the rumours do to Liam Reidy's thought process?33-year-old Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott's name keeps popping up in purple provinces. And while we're on the Collingwood camp, there seems to be a Bobby Hill Freo Fanclub? Regardless of 'get-ability' are they genuine needs? Those names and plenty more are, at the very least, up for discussion. Always plenty of Docker drivel to be discussed. We'll cast the net wide on all things Freo, we'll get an update on JoJo's long-awaited bar opening and the Chief has hinted that he may unfortunately subject us to another episode of the Neighbourhood Watch. With the ink running dry here, let's put down the purple pen, pick up the talking stick and continue on the pod. In 1876, one of the most daring prison escapes in history set sail from Fremantle, Western Australia. The American whaling ship Catalpa was at the heart of the plot, masterminded by Irish Fenians determined to free their comrades from the brutal Fremantle Prison. With clever disguises, coded messages, and a nail-biting chase at sea, the Catalpa's voyage became a legendary tale of rebellion, ingenuity, and defiance against the British Empire. In this episode, we dive into the planning, the escape itself, and how this incredible story still resonates in both Australian and Irish history today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weird-crap-in-australia--2968350/support.

Triple M Footy's Kate McCarthy calls in to discuss Mitch Brown becoming the first openly bisexual AFL player - what it means for the queer community, and why the AFLW is light years ahead of the AFL in this space. Billy has a new showbiz segment, JB had a nightmare day at the shops, and Fremantle's Patrick Voss calls in as he gears up for his first finals series.
