What is your take on expectations? I chose a word for my year this year, and you'll learn all about it in today's episode, but expectations were connected to it. I thought I was being noble, maybe wise, perhaps, but Art Costello, today's incredible guest, just totally wrecked my lens about expectations. We don't live any minute of any day without them; whether they're high or low, unmet or met expectations can affect our chemical makeup - causing manic episodes, depression, anxiety, PTSD, or trauma-based things that occur in our childhood. Beyond Speech: Limitless Communication with Lauren Polly Radio Show High expectations are the key to achievement. We are born to succeed. Struggle, adversity, and setbacks are inevitable. Indeed, they are frequently the stepping stones to greatness. Every individual has the seed-potential of high performance and personal excellence inside them. Mastering your expectations is probably the most important step you can take towards unlocking this potential. Join Beyond Speech: Limitless communication with host Lauren Polly and guest author of “Expectation Therapy” Art Costello for a conversation on the principles, habits of mind, and wisdom that will help you achieve your aims and the personal excellence that lies within. “I’m absolutely certain that if you expect the very best of yourself, then you will begin to discover the courage, creativity, and strength to reach your goals.” ~ Art Costello Art Costello lives in Austin, Texas with his wife, Beverly, and their dogs Chloe and Hazel. His varied background encompasses serving in Vietnam as a Marine, playing baseball from the little league level to semi-pro leagues, working in psychology and in the entertainment industry, and as a business owner for over 30+ year’s. As a counselor at Mercy Mental Health in San Diego, he had worked with world-renowned “play” researcher, Dr. Stuart Brown and while in the entertainment industry working with some of the most identified performers of the times. Art’s greatest joy has been raising his family and interacting with his vast array of friends. His life long quest has been to identify and put into action God’s plan for him, learning from every encounter and experience his 66 years on earth has presented. https://expectationtherapy.com, http://artcostello.com Lauren Polly has been working with folks with “communication disorders” since 2004 as a speech-language pathologist and it never ceases to amaze her how much people judge and beat themselves up for supposed mishaps in communication. “I never meant to say that.” “It came out wrong.” “I just don’t sound like myself.” Are some of the things she hears every day. What follows are stories of how the communication breakdown led to undesirable results – loss of friendship, loss of a business deal, an argument with a loved one, or just the sense that you didn’t deliver what was possible. What if there was a different possibility? http://laurenpolly.com/
