In this enlightening episode of Author's Corner on the "Transform Your Mind to Transform Your Life" podcast, host Myrna Young engages in a riveting conversation with Lucy Biven, author of "A Shortcut to Understanding Affective Neuroscience." Diving deep into the complexities of neuroscience, the discussion centers on the seven basic types of effective consciousness and how they influence psychotherapy and psychiatry practices. Lucy's journey from a psychotherapist puzzled by a unique custody case to a renowned author in neuroscience is as captivating as it is informative.Throughout the episode, Lucy Biven elaborates on the seven foundational emotional systems common in mammals: fear, grief, lust, play, care, seeking, and their crucial role in shaping consciousness. The conversation addresses how understanding these systems can transform therapeutic approaches, particularly in recognizing different types of anxiety and depression. With practical examples and insightful anecdotes, the episode underscores the continuous evolution and challenges in neuroscience, inviting listeners to explore the nuanced interconnections between the brain and emotional experiences.Key Takeaways:Lucy offers insights into seven emotional systems: fear, grief, lust, play, care, and seeking, with significant implications for psychotherapy. Two types of depression exist: hopelessness from a lack of seeking system activity and isolation from an impaired grief system.Neuroscience provides key insights but remains limited in fully explaining the mind-brain relationship, specifically in understanding consciousness.Lucy stressed the importance of the seeking system in therapy, encouraging proactive behavior to counter depressive feelings. The episode encourages understanding emotions' physiological and experiential roles in improving therapeutic practices and mental health treatments.Resources:Lucy Biven's book: [A Shortcut to Understanding Affective Neuroscience]To advertise on our podcast, visit https://advertising.libsyn.com/TransformyourMindor email kriti@youngandprofiting.com See this video on The Transform Your Mind YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/@MyhelpsUs/videosTo see a transcripts of this audio as well as links to all the advertisers on the show page https://myhelps.us/Follow Transform Your Mind on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/myrnamyoung/Follow Transform Your mind on Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063738390977Please leave a rating and review on iTunes https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/transform-your-mind/id1144973094 https://podcast.feedspot.com/personal_development_podcasts/

They dive into Max's new book, Tame Your Thoughts: Three Tools to Renew Your Mind and Transform Your Life, walking through “picky thinking,” spotting the “UFOs” (untruth → false narrative → overreaction), and the practice of uprooting lies and replanting truth. The conversation gets practical on media intake, the real brain/relationship fallout of porn, and Max's storyteller toolkit—from dog tales to Amelia Earhart—and why the message must always lead the illustration. How do evangelism and business go hand in hand? Well, for today's guest, evangelism is the purest form of sales. Guy Kawasaki is the Chief Evangelist at Canva and former Chief Evangelist for the Macintosh Division at Apple. He's a prolific author, speaker, and podcaster, with hit books like Think Remarkable: 9 Paths to Transform Your Life and Make a Difference, Wiser Guy: Life-Changing Revelations and Revisions from Tech's Chief Evangelist, and Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions.Guy and Greg discuss his evolving career path, why his work's focus has shifted over time from how to succeed in business to how to succeed in life, the practicalities of sales, evangelism, and the overlooked necessity of these skills in business education. *unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:Is evangelism the purest form of sales?42:25: I believe that sales is a very necessary and important skill. I would say that maybe evangelism is the purest form of sales. The difference between evangelism and most sales is that in evangelism, you have the other person's best interests at heart, not just yours.Remarkable doesn't mean reach and famous24:45: Remarkable does not mean rich or famous, although you can be rich or famous and remarkable. But it's really about the impact you've made on the world. And I don't mean you have to sell 300 million iPhones or 300 million computers; it's really what have you done?Stop chasing passion, start pursuing interest14:15: So the bar is so high for a passion. So a lot of people are saying, oh my God, I'm 22 years old, I haven't found my passion yet, what's wrong with me? I'm an underachiever. And what I think you should do instead is have your eyes open, you should have your brain open, i.e., a growth mindset. And whatever interests you, you should pursue it until you can discover if you really like it; maybe then it'll turn into a passion. But to look for Passion, capital P, out the gate is doing yourself a disservice. The three general qualities of remarkable people27:29: I've noticed that remarkable people have three general qualities. First of all, they have the growth mindset of Carol Dweck. If you have a growth mindset, you better back that up with a grit mindset of Angela Duckworth, because if you have a growth mindset, you're going to try things like surfing and hockey that you're not good at for years. So you need to persevere and have grit. And then the final thing you need is a grace mindset. So it's growth, grit, grace.Show Links:Recommended Resources:Dr. Robert Cialdini | Remarkable People podcast Dr. Robert Cialdini | unSILOed podcastInfluence: The Psychology of Persuasion, Revised Edition by Robert CialdiniIf You Want to Write: A Book about Art, Independence and Spirit by Brenda UelandCarol DweckAngela DuckworthGuest Profile:Professional WebsiteRemarkable People podcastGuest Work:Think Remarkable: 9 Paths to Transform Your Life and Make a DifferenceWiser Guy: Life-Changing Revelations and Revisions from Tech's Chief EvangelistEnchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and ActionsThe Art of the Start: The Time-Tested, Battle-Hardened Guide for Anyone Starting AnythingRules For Revolutionaries: The Capitalist Manifesto for Creating and Marketing New Products and ServicesThe Macintosh Way Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Start Your Transformation Now In this episode of the Transform Your Life podcast, I talk about the importance of living your own purpose in life rather than conforming to the expectations and ideals of others. I talk about how we can get stuck in careers, relationships, and situations that don't align with our true desires because we seek the approval of our parents, partners, and society. I ask you to explore whether you are truly living a purposeful, fulfilling life on your own terms or living your life for others. As I ask the last question, I think back to the 1991 movie, The Dead Poet's Society, and I think about the movie character named Neil. He wanted to pursue acting and loved it, but his stern father wanted him to go to Harvard Medical School. Neil hated the idea of medical school and found it soul-crushing, but he agreed. You'll have to watch the movie for the story's conclusion, but it's not uncommon for people to deny their own hopes, wishes, wants, and dreams and instead live their lives to please their parents. Often times cultural and familial pressures guide people down a path that doesn't fulfill them, and they live decades misaligned from their own purpose while trying to please others. So, it's important to ask whether you are living your own purpose or someone else's. Another purpose-robbing action that people often get into is seeking validation from others. This is a surefire way to live an unfulfilled life. For example, a friend of mine was constantly motivated by a desire for his father's approval, and that led him down an obsessive path of constantly trying to prove himself. This behavior disconnects you from your higher self and obscures your true purpose. You can't create an authentic life while dependent on external validation. I have found that the key to living your purpose is surrendering to your destiny and innate talents. This involves getting quiet, listening to your intuition, and taking aligned action. We must focus on the importance of being grateful and on contribution rather than achievement. Here are four key points you may want to keep in mind: Surrender to your innate talents and destiny.Listen to your intuition and take aligned action.Express gratitude and focus on contributing.Achievements will naturally follow purposeful contributions. You must examine whether you are living someone else's purpose or your own. If you are not thrilled by how you spend your days, you are likely conforming to others' expectations. I challenge you to get creative, listen within, and take steps each day to live your own purpose. Listen, apply, and enjoy! Transformational Takeaway When you are living your purpose, you are contributing your talents to activities that light you up, and you will experience true joy and fulfillment. Your key is being brave enough to live life on your own terms. Just do it. Mentioned Resources: EPISODE 280: History, Humanity, and Spiritual Ego. [04:33] Hal explains he learned the five minute rule at age 20 selling Cutco by feeling emotions for five minutes then saying "can't change it" and moving forward. [07:25] Hal recounts being hit by a drunk driver at 70 mph at age 20 where he broke 11 bones and died at the scene for six minutes but applied the five minute rule to accept his reality. [13:26] Hal confirms the five minute rule is the practical bridge to Viktor Frankl's concept of choosing one's attitude in any circumstance. [21:05] Hal explains the Miracle Morning program and why the morning routine is important for making every day your best day. [29:37] Hal shares that the expanded edition of his book adds 20 pages to the SAVERS section and two new chapters called the Miracle Evening and the Miracle Life. [43:12] Hal defines a good life as fulfilling your potential in service of others by showing up as your best self every day from a place of love. [46:16] And remember…"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." - Marcus Aurelius Quotable Quotes "It's okay to be negative and get upset when things don't go your way, but do not dwell on it for an extended period of time." "Set your timer for five minutes and give yourself five minutes to feel your emotions fully. Don't suppress them, don't try to act the way you think you should. Bitch, moan, complain, cry, vent, whatever you gotta do." "Every painful emotion that we experienced was self created by our resistance to our reality." "The last of man's freedoms, is to choose one's own attitude in any given set of circumstances." "You cannot change reality in this moment as it exists. You can only do things in this moment to change the next moment or the moment after that." "I believe that we create our own statistics." "Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development." "If you win the morning, you win the day because you're putting yourself in a peak physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state." "Family men with businesses, not businessmen with families." (Front Row Dads tagline) "Everything you've been through is intentional and it's part of your journey, so you can help as many people as you possibly can." 77 The Magic Of Mantras - How Words Transform Your Life.

I Love Me with Tamra Mercieca

What if I told you that a few simple words—spoken with intention—could rewire your mind, shift your energy, and completely change the trajectory of your life? It sounds almost too easy, right? But that's the beauty of mantras.   For mantras are more than just words. They're energetic codes that speak directly to your subconscious—helping you dissolve self-doubt, reprogram old stories, and align with your most radiant, empowered self.   In this week's episode of I Love Me: The Podcast, I'm sharing how to do exactly that. This episode is your invitation to discover the magic of mantras — why they work, how to use them effectively, and how to create one that speaks straight to your soul.   Because here's the truth: Your mind is listening. Every thought, every phrase, every whispered belief — it's shaping how you see yourself and what you believe is possible for your life. So… why not make those words powerful? Why not make them loving? Why not use your words to consciously create the life you want to live.   When you begin working with mantras, you start to shift your inner dialogue — from criticism to compassion, from doubt to trust, from fear to freedom. And those shifts? They ripple into every area of your life — your relationships, your work, your sense of peace and purpose.   This isn't about “positive thinking.” It's about energetic alignment — learning to use the power of language to become who you truly are beneath the conditioning.   Take a peek at the full episode show notes (and resources I refer to in the show) here:   https://gettingnaked.com.au/2025/11/05/ep-77-the-magic-of-mantras-how-words-transform-your-life/   About me…   Hi, I'm Tamra Mercieca, a Self-Love Therapist, Women's Pelvic Health Guide, and host of I Love Me The Podcast. For 20+ years I've been teaching people worldwide how to heal depression and anxiety naturally, strengthen pelvic health, and cultivate radical self-love.   In 2011, I founded Getting Naked, an online school offering resources and programs that help people strip away limiting beliefs and childhood conditioning so they can feel confident, connected, free in their bodies and able to love and accept themselves unconditionally.   Alongside being a mum, wife, tea lover, and drummer, I'm qualified in more than a dozen holistic healing modalities. I've written two books, been published worldwide (print, TV, radio, etc), and often share my passion for self-love, mental health and pelvic wellbeing at yoga and spirituality festivals.   My own journey began when I learned how to overcome suicidal depression and anxiety without medication. From that, I created a ten-session self-love therapy program that now helps others do the same.   On the podcast, I share personal stories, tools and science-backed down-to-earth practices for emotional healing, women's health, and living with more joy and freedom. His new book is called "Tame Your Thoughts: 3 Tools to Renew Your Mind and Transform Your Life". We must guard our thoughts and weed out unhealthy thought patterns. It's vital to separate the present issue from the real issue. We also talked with Dr. Michael Rydelnik. He is Professor Emeritus of Jewish Studies and Bible at MBI. Dr. Rydelnik is the host of the radio program Open Line. Dr. Rydelnik (as well as Karl) will be speaking at The Summit on Israel and the Last Days Conference on November 8th at the Moody Bible Institute. In this episode of More Yourself, I wanted to share a clip from a recent ADHD Women's Wellbeing live session that explored the concept of generativity versus stagnation —a theme that is very prevalent among late-diagnosed ADHD women. This concept, rooted in Erik Erikson's psychosocial development theory, invites us to reflect on how we create meaning and contribute to our own lives and to others as we move through the different stages of adulthood. For those of us who received a diagnosis later in life, this understanding can be transformative. It reminds us that our diagnosis isn't the end, it's the beginning of a new chapter. My new book, The ADHD Women's Wellbeing Toolkit, is now available, grab your copy here! What I discuss:Erikson's 8 stages of psychosocial development viewed through a neurodivergent lens. The impact of unconscious masking on ADHD traits and energy levels. The concept of generativity vs. stagnation for late-diagnosed ADHD women.Seeing a late diagnosis as a new chapter for authenticity and evolution. The role of meaningful connection in women's reconnection with their identity post-diagnosis.The power of embracing change in midlife and beyond.Timestamps00:33 – Understanding ADHD and Psychosocial Development03:30 – Overview of Erikson's 8 Stages of Psychosocial Development05:26 – Life Stages Through a Neurodivergent Lens07:17 – Generativity vs. Stagnation Explained07:54 – Generativity as a New Chapter of Potential09:40 – Embracing Change and Authenticity12:16 – Closing Reflections and Personal GrowthJoin the More Yourself Community - the doors are now open!More Yourself is a compassionate space for late-diagnosed ADHD women to connect, reflect, and come home to who they really are. Hi Mamas, Ever notice how your mood can shift the whole energy in your home? One snippy email at work… one traffic jam… one long day…and suddenly everyone feels it. But what if you could catch those moments before they spiral? That's what today's episode is all about: self-awareness… the quiet superpower that helps you show up with more patience, presence, and peace. In this episode, Kerri gets real about her own wake-up call (spoiler: it involved her mom, sister, and a tough dose of honesty), and how that moment completely shifted how she approaches stress, work, marriage, and motherhood. You'll learn: ✨ What self-awareness really means (and what it's not) ✨ How to pause and check in with your emotions before they spill over ✨ Why “mirror moments” are the secret to stronger relationships ✨ How small shifts… like journaling, mindful transitions, and deep breathing… can change the tone of your entire day ✨ Why being self-aware makes you not just a better mom, but a happier one Kerri also shares her favorite real-life practices for catching negative energy before it spreads, plus how she's learning (in progress!) to bring more light into every room she walks into. Challenge of the Week: Pause once today and ask yourself: 1️⃣ How am I feeling right now? 2️⃣ How is this affecting how I'm showing up? 3️⃣ What's one small shift I can make in this moment? Then, write down what you notice. The goal isn't perfection… it's presence.

The Rose Method: My FAVORITE Reflection Exercise to Transform Your Life with Cary Jack

The Happy Hustle Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 17, 2025 19:22

Ever feel like life's moving so fast that you forget to pause and reflect on what's actually working—or what's not? We all get caught up chasing goals, juggling priorities, and trying to “do more,” but sometimes the real key to living happier isn't in doing more—it's in reflecting more. That's exactly what I unpack in this solo episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, where I dive into one of my all-time favorite reflection practices: The Rose, Thorn, and Bud Method. This stupid-simple (yet incredibly powerful) exercise has been used by Navy SEALs, Silicon Valley founders, and high-performing entrepreneurs across the world. And it's one that I personally use to get clarity, cultivate gratitude, and stay in harmony—both in business and in life. The beauty of this practice is that it doesn't take long, but it can completely shift how you show up every day.So here's the breakdown. The Rose represents what's going well in your life—your wins, your highlights, your gratitude moments. For me, my personal rose right now is that my wife is pregnant with our baby girl (yep, I'm about to be a #GirlDad, and I couldn't be more excited!). Professionally, my rose is hosting the upcoming Optimized Life Mastermind with my buddy Ben Greenfield, which is shaping up to be an epic experience for entrepreneurs who want to level up their health, wealth, and happiness. Then comes the Thorn—the challenges, the friction points, the stuff that's testing you. I'll be real with you, my thorn lately has been not showing up as intentionally in my marriage as I'd like to. I've been on the road nonstop for masterminds and events, and it's been tough to balance that with being the husband Steph deserves—especially now that she's pregnant. Professionally, my thorn has been building out a new SaaS business that's pushing me outside my comfort zone. It's exciting, but it's also tough. And that's okay. The thorn reminds us to pay attention to what needs care, boundaries, or change. Finally, there's the Bud—what's emerging, what's next, what you're excited to nurture and grow. For me, it's watching my son step into big brother mode and seeing The Happy Hustle Club continue to blossom into a supportive brotherhood of heart-centered entrepreneurs. This community blows me away with their vulnerability, generosity, and genuine support for each other—it's proof that when you lead with love and authenticity, you attract the right tribe. If you take one thing from this episode, let it be this: reflection isn't just about slowing down—it's about tuning in. It's how you spot the blessings, transform the struggles, and plant the seeds for what's next. When you take the time to acknowledge your roses, your thorns, and your buds—personally and professionally—you gain the clarity and alignment to truly Happy Hustle your dream reality. So grab a journal, take five minutes, and write it down: What's your rose? What's your thorn? What's your bud? The answers might just change the way you show up for yourself and others.Connect with Cary!https://www.instagram.com/caryjack/https://www.facebook.com/SirCaryJackhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cary-jack-kendzior/https://twitter.com/thehappyhustlehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFDNsD59tLxv2JfEuSsNMOQ/featured Get a free copy of his new book, The Happy Hustle, 10 Alignments to Avoid Burnout & Achieve Blissful Balance https://www.thehappyhustle.com/bookSign up for The Journey: 10 Days To Become a Happy Hustler Online Coursehttps://thehappyhustle.com/thejourney/Apply to the Montana Mastermind Epic Camping Adventurehttps://thehappyhustle.com/mastermind/“It's time to Happy Hustle, a blissfully balanced life you love, full of passion, purpose, and positive impact!”Episode Sponsors:If you're feeling stressed, not sleeping great, or your energy's been kinda meh lately—let me put you on to something that's been a total game-changer for me: Magnesium Breakthrough by BiOptimizers.
