Mike is back in the big chair on Sunday! Cincinnati experienced some flooding in the area the other day. Cars were floating down the road; Interstate 71 was closed and more. Do we not have flood gates? Did they not work as expected? Also, President Trump had a speech on the 2020 election "fraud". Is it time to move on? Have we been stuck on this for too long? He also wraps up the show with Patrick Regan. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on the show, Mike dives into the recent speech by the President on election integrity, and how it's sparking a heated debate about the 2020 election. The conversation also touches on the importance of election reform, the Save Act, and the need for a more nuanced approach to discussing sensitive topics. Mike shares their thoughts on the President's speech, highlighting the need for a more forward-thinking approach to addressing election integrity. They also discuss the Save Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at improving election security, and express frustration that it hasn't gained more traction in the Senate. The conversation also delves into the recent flooding in Cincinnati and the city's infrastructure issues, which Mike believes are a pressing concern that deserves attention. Mike Jr is joined by their friend and fellow Democrat, Patrick Reagan, who shares his thoughts on the President's speech and the current state of the Democratic Party. They discuss the importance of authenticity in politics and how the party can learn from the success of Donald Trump's campaign. For decades, catastrophe modelling has largely been about choosing the best view of risk. But what happens when no single model can capture the full picture? In this episode, Matthew Grant speaks with Rob Newbold, President of Catastrophe and Risk Solutions at Verisk, about why the future of catastrophe modelling is becoming more open, collaborative and accessible. Rob explains the thinking behind Verisk's new Model Exchange platform and why enabling insurers to access third-party models alongside Verisk's own is less about changing strategy and more about continuing a long-standing commitment to giving clients greater choice. The conversation explores how broader access to catastrophe and cyber models could help organisations build a more complete understanding of risk while making advanced analytics available to a much wider audience. They also discuss why the global protection gap remains stubbornly difficult to close, why parametric insurance has not yet delivered on many of its early promises and where new modelling capability is still urgently needed, from flood to wildfire. Looking ahead, Rob shares his perspective on how agentic AI could fundamentally change catastrophe modelling workflows, allowing insurers to automate scenario analysis, respond more quickly to emerging events and make sophisticated risk analytics available without requiring specialist modelling expertise. In this episode you'll learn: Why Verisk has opened its platform to third-party catastrophe and cyber models How Model Exchange helps insurers build a more comprehensive view of global risk Why collaboration between model providers could strengthen resilience across the industry Where the biggest gaps remain in catastrophe modelling, including flood and emerging risks Why the protection gap remains a persistent challenge despite better analytics The reality of parametric insurance and why basis risk continues to limit wider adoption How cloud platforms and SaaS delivery are making catastrophe models accessible beyond specialist insurance teams What practical applications of agentic AI could look like for catastrophe modelling over the next 12 months Why openness, transparency and competition may ultimately improve risk understanding across the market Rob's recommendations: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell Smart Brevity by Roy Schwartz, Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei If you like what you're hearing, please leave us a review on whichever platform you use or contact Matthew Grant on LinkedIn. Send us Fan MailIt was so fun to meet Mike Allen, known as "the sugar-free man," to discuss his journey into sugar-free living and his work helping others with food addiction. Mike shared how he became the sugar-free man during the pandemic after growing up in a family where sugar was heavily consumed as a form of "love," and how his recovery from alcohol addiction at age 28 led him to eliminate sugar from his diet. He explained the scientific connection between sugar consumption and dopamine regulation in the brain, describing how sugar affects the same reward pathways as drugs and how metabolic psychiatry is revealing the brain's response to sugar consumption. Mike discussed his coaching program, book writing, and the Quit Sugar Summit events, while sharing insights about different types of sugar users and the challenges of going sugar-free in a world where sugar is pervasive in food products. The conversation also touched on the connection between sugar consumption and conditions like Alzheimer's disease, based on Mike's personal experience with his mother's dementia and the work of Dr. Dale Bredesen.Support the show

Can We Just Forget That Last Week Even Happened? Many MLS fans are still trying to figure out how to process a two month long break in the middle of the season. Most NYCFC fans had high expectations for this past week. A chance to advance to the semi-finals of the US Open Cup. A chance to change the narrative that the club never took the competition seriously. Pascal Jansen previously had said himself that the tournament was a great way to win a trophy. But after conceding the lone goal of the match in the 59th minute, NYCFC appeared to clean house and rest players for the next MLS match. If some NYCFC fans were not sure how to feel about the break, the last two matches will make you want to forget about the club for a while. This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. give their best takes on how NYCFC fell so low in such a short amount of time.
