Context matters. Before I can actually UPDATE you on book progress, I gotta catch you up to speed on where we're starting from. How we got to the current moment / draft in time. In this episode I'll share an overview of my personal writing (drafting, revising) process to date, including, but not limited to: how and why I chose Naptime Empires as my first book (with a squillion other ideas circulating) what prompted the first draft back in April 2020 the exact process I used to go from 0 to 94k words in 12 days why I stopped working on it for months after that what got me back in the editing saddle (courtesy of Mother Nature's #nofilter sense of humor) the perks o' not meeting my original goal publish date how working on my book has been a boost to my physical health ideas for future episodes (share your vote via naptimeempires.com/convo!) If you have no plans to write a book, this may not be your fave ep. It's very housekeeping-y and in the weeds. If you DO want to write (or have already written!) a book, howev, my hope is that hearing takeaways from my own messy process will help give you ideas. And/or confidence. Because it's entirely possible you've really got your author ish together and hearing my journey helps you feel better about yours(elf). Either way it's a win in my book / podcast. Naptime Empires with Nikki Elledge Brown: Refreshingly Honest Conversations for Entrepreneurial Moms
Introducing Naptime Empires: BOOK MODE - aka Season 4! You only write your first book once. (Or like, four times in slightly different ways, if you're me.) It's time for season FOUR o' the Naptime Empires® podcast - the journey to episode 100 and the publication of the Naptime Empires book! In this series of episodes I'll be sharing the good, the bad, the ugly of my creative and procrastinative process. WHY? Because I work best with a mutual inspiration society (being in conversation with YOU) and I am lovingly challenging myself to get this baby out - at least in ebook form! - before we hit episode 100. Just created a Google form (which I'll link in every episode description) where you can share any Qs you have for me about the process, the content, or just about anything else.* *I also welcome peer pressure "come on I wanna read it!" vibes to help me get over myself and get this book out of my google docs and into our hands and earbuds. Here's the link where you can share your side of the conversation: naptimeempires.com/convo You can also join the convo by taking a screenshot (or a selfie as you listen) + tagging me on Instagram @nikkielledgebrown with #naptimeempires. I'll keep track of your notes and use them as inspo for future episodes. As always, thanks being part of the #naptimeempires conversation. That's a wrap for season ONE of the Naptime Empires™ podcast! It's been a little while since NE 028 was published, so in this "on location" ep I recap where we've been, where we are, and where we're headed NEXT in the world of #naptimeempires. NOTE: I recorded this outside by a windy beach, which is basically the OPPOSITE of my "home studio" (aka my closet) where I recorded the rest of season one. Let's take this as me practicing what I preach when I say "it doesn't need to be perfect; it just needs to be shared." ;) Tune in for highlights and ahas on our move from Hawaii to Texas and get the scoop on what's in store for season TWO coming this fall. If you've been feeling down about your business since bringing a new human onto the scene, my hope is that listening to this ep will help you feel more normal. BONUS POINTS if it inspires you to give yourself some credit and grace (rest / exploration / introspection / fresh air / chocolate as needed too). In this one I (candidly) share the emotional rollercoaster that was my business mindset in 2016. I was on top of the world in December (in my final weeks of pregnancy), but come January / February - I was in a surprisingly dark and disconnected space, with little to no desire to work on OR in my business. I share how that played out in the early stages of Naptime Empires™, the impact it had on my launches / overall energy, and how I'm slowly but surely coming back to ME, finding a way to move forward in a way I'm *genuinely* excited about. Give yourself time, space, and some great friends who GET IT, and you certainly will too.
