Episode 146. This week, Kristen is joined by Rebecca Fox Starr: author, writer, wife, mother and founder of “Mommy, Ever After.” Rebecca started her blog in 2010 after the birth of her daughter, when she realized that no one was speaking honestly about the difficulties, fears, boredom, loneliness and mixed-emotions that come along with all of the happy enchantment of motherhood. Kristen and Rebecca dive deep into the important conversation around normalizing anxiety, depression, and the overwhelming feelings many experience during pregnancy. Rebecca discusses her books, with her first being “Beyond the Baby Blues: Anxiety and Depression During and After Pregnancy,” and offers insights on how to breathe through the changes in your body and mindset. Kristen opens up about dealing with social anxiety and the stigma surrounding medication during pregnancy. They also dive into the fears of childbirth and share practical tips for coping with anxiety during this transformative time. Rebecca answers listener questions about topics like OCD, returning to work post-pregnancy, and the difference between baby blues and postpartum depression. Plus, they explore the importance of setting both internal and external boundaries to protect your mental well-being. Tune in for a candid conversation about mental health during pregnancy and how to nurture yourself along the way. Hallie and Katie have a lot to chat about this week! Hallie is tired AF, revealing Dylan, 2, is having a major sleep regression and is waking up at 4am every morning and refuses to go back to sleep. Meanwhile, Katie and Jason's daughter, Kaia, 1, is having a sleep regression of her own, with a raging case of toddler FOMO that left her crying so hard in her crib she puked! As for their baby girl, Emma, 5 months, she gave mom and dad reason to celebrate, sleeping through the night for the first time. Hallie dishes on how baby led weaning is going with her youngest daughter, Collins, 7 months, and says this time around she has way less anxiety with all new milestones than she did with her firstborn. And speaking of milestones, Hallie reveals that she's scrambling to learn the tricks of potty training after her toddler jumped the gun and took a big poop in the potty. The mom-of-two also gives a sweet shoutout to her hubby, Andrew, who turned 40-years-old on Tuesday. The moms applaud Kylie Kelce after she kept it real about “severe baby blues” and the hardest parts of early motherhood during a recent appearance on the Sunday Sports Club podcast. The 32-year-old wife of NFL star Jason Kelce and mom to three daughters (with baby #4 on the way), is on a mission to normalize the messy, complicated, emotional realities of postpartum life. “The conversations we're not having are the things we're all experiencing—postpartum depression, baby blues, mom guilt, feeling inadequate as a woman. We all go through it, but nobody talks about it. And we should,” she emphasized.Hallie and Katie also weigh in after one mom asked for advice on Reddit regarding her 13-year-old daughter who wanted a $50 shirt. The mamas both agree that they would buy their daughters the shirt, but only under one condition. Are you an expectant or new parent? You or your partner may experience the so-called ‘baby blues' when your baby is born. But unpleasant symptoms are mild and temporary. Postnatal depression is different and can affect both parents. Knowing the difference and how to access support for yourself or your partner is crucial for your family's wellbeing.

A Way with Words — language, linguistics, and callers from all over
A hundred years ago, suffragists lobbied to win women the right to vote. Linguistically speaking, though, suffrage isn't about "suffering." It's from a Latin word that involves voting. Plus: military cadences often include Jody calls, rhyming verses about the mythical guy who steals your sweetheart while you're off serving the country. But just who is Jody, anyway? Finally, maybe you've resolved to read more books this year. But how to ensure your success? Start by rearranging your bookshelves for easier viewing. And think of reading like physical fitness: Sneak in a little extra activity here and there, and you'll reach your goal before you know it. Also, bless your heart, baby blue, a brain teaser about the words no and not, wall stretcher, desire path, neckdown, sneckdown, and can't dance, and too wet to plow. This episode explores what it is and how it's different from the baby blues. And we'll try to help erase the stigma surrounding postpartum depression. We also want women to know hope is available, including the first oral pill approved to treat PPD but why some may not be able to get their hands on it. Do we even need to introduce this week's pod? Jake & Trey bask in the glory of a five-one victory and the return of Maxi "Miles" Moralez, the spiderman himself, the min-maxed maestro, the five-foot nothing colossus. But outside of Maxi's 24 minutes of play, there's plenty else to break down and your boys cover a feckless first half of tactical adjustments, Alonso Martinez' record-breaking hat-trick, Tayvon's positional fearlessness, and much more. THEN: a look back at the Baby Blues' doomed but delightful U.S. Open Cup run, and a look forward at a new era in the USWNT as Emma Hayes grabs the reins and spurs her squad to a first friendly victory. Plus: a moderately meaningless Columbus Crew precap before the bye-week. Turn the sprinkler hose down a couple ticks — you've got Blue Balls.

She has particular interests in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and the psychological burdens of infertility and perinatal loss.
