UNbecoming is a cinematic exploration of consciousness and identity that challenges the assumption of a separate self. Bridging neuroscience, lived experience, philosophical inquiry, and ancient contemplative traditions, the film examines what happens when the structures that define identity begin to dissolve. Featuring perspectives from leading researchers and thinkers, it moves beyond explanation into direct investigation -inviting the viewer to question the nature of perception, control, and reality itself. Rather than offering answers, UNbecoming creates an experiential confrontation with the question: if the self is an illusion, what remains? —— Subscribe to the podcast: https://twitter.com/wildsoundpod https://www.instagram.com/wildsoundpod https://www.facebook.com/wildsoundpod —— Love for for you to try the Indy Film Festival AP. • Daily new film festival of the best new films from around the world. UnBecoming Part 3 - The Hallway. (May 14, 2026)You look over at the light streaming in through your bedroom window. It's not the soft light of the moon; it's artificial light. Street lights. You're not home, you're back home. In the same twin bed you slept in during high school, watching the same trees dance in the wind, the same shadows play on the same hardwood floors you played on, talked on the phone in circles on, those floors have witnessed you.And now you kneel on them. You pray on them, whispering down toward them, you walk in tight circles on them, not on a call, but as a form of meditation, feeling God's Love in every step. Calling His Name with every step. Asking to be shown, to be provided the next step- whether to divorce or not. Whether to move or not? To the beach, perhaps. You're conflicted. But the floor is not. The room is not. It's bare. It's clean. It's small, but tidy. You can hear yourself think here, even as you are trying to get out to that place beyond thoughts, where the real answers come from. The Peace you feel as you listen past your thoughts and look over their shoulders, brings about sleep.Just as you drift, you are startled awake. Was that a crash? Did something fall? Did someone fall? You listen… for the children. For your parents. Acute. Aware. It was nothing. You soften back into the mattress, resting on your back, not yet asleep again,CRASH.Definitely something that time. Definitely someone. Your heart rate rises faster than you can. You jump up, grabbing your phone with shaky hands, instinctively yelling, 'DAD!' the one you worry about the most. The one you've called on the most. The one who understands. Before you can even enter the hall, you see his feet sticking out of his door. God. >>>> UNBECOMING.https://www.curlynikki.com/unbecoming.html

What does motherhood actually change about the way you lead? For Cassandra Riene Tan — entrepreneur, Group CEO of The Well Group, and co-founder of Amber, a next-generation preschool — the answer starts with a word most people aren't using: unbecoming. In the inaugural edition of Suite Talk, host Lynlee Foo sits down with Cassandra ahead of Mother's Day to explore how stepping back from conditioned thinking shaped her leadership, why she now filters decisions by energy and not just ROI, and what drove her to bet on emotional resilience over academic performance in an age of AI. Candid, personal, and anything but the usual founder story.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What if success isn't the problem — it's that you've outgrown it? Lauren Kerr introduces the concept of "unbecoming": shedding who you were to step into who you're becoming — without burning out in the process. Lauren Kerr is a bestselling author and high-performance coach who helps high-achieving women lead with clarity, recover from burnout, and redefine success — without blowing everything up to do it. If you've hit every goal and still feel like something's off, this is the episode that names what you've been feeling. What we get into: → What "unbecoming" actually means — and why it's not about starting over → The silent handbrake keeping ambitious women stuck in a version of success they've outgrown → Why the drive that built your career may now be working against you → What feminine leadership looks like in practice (empathy isn't a weakness) → The "feather or the truck" — why ignoring small intuitive nudges leads to bigger crises → Time audits, Parkinson's Law, and how to design a week that actually fits your life → Lauren's personal goal this year: just enjoying motherhood (and why that had to be a written goal) What's one "corporate game" rule you've learned the hard way?

In this solo episode, I'm getting deeply personal about turning 50 and everything that milestone is teaching me about values-based occupational therapy practice, sustainable work, and letting go of the structures we've inherited without examining them. If you're an OT who's ever felt like the practice you built for a previous version of yourself is now running you, or if you're navigating your own season of role transition, professional identity, and the ache to do things differently, this episode was made for you. I share the concept of the crone archetype, my experience teaching entrepreneurial thinking at the University of Alberta, and how ACTivate Vitality is helping OTs deinstitutionalize their thinking and build practices that actually fit their lives. In This Episode, I Talk About: What it means to embrace the "crone era" and why our culture gets it so wrong The crone as threshold, not ending: moving from people-pleasing into authentic purpose Why so many OTs become victims of their own success and how to build a practice that serves you again Deinstitutionalizing OT thinking: the beginner's mindset as an entrepreneurial superpower What I've been teaching in my entrepreneurship module at the University of Alberta and how it applies to your OT practice How I use ACT in ACTivate Vitality to help OTs sort through what's next How ACT helps us discern: am I saying yes from values alignment, or from fear? Trauma does not stay in the past. It shapes behaviour, relationships, health, and the patterns we repeat until they are consciously addressed. In this episode of Self Care, Geraldine Hardy shares a deeply personal reflection on her upcoming book Moments That Matter: A Journey of Healing, Remembering, and Unbecoming, and the lived experiences that led her to understand how trauma embeds itself across every layer of our lives.Drawing from her own journey through illness, burnout, and destructive relationship cycles, Geraldine explains why unresolved emotional wounds do not simply fade over time. They show up in the body, influence decision-making, and keep people locked in repeating patterns until responsibility is taken. This is not surface-level healing. It is about recognizing patterns, understanding their origin, and doing the work required to break them.In this episode:• How trauma embeds itself in behaviour, relationships, and physical health • The link between self-worth and repeated life patterns • Why emotional wounds can manifest as illness and burnout • How personal and professional cycles mirror each other • Why leaving a situation does not end the pattern • The role of responsibility in real, lasting change • How victimhood keeps patterns in place • Recognizing the moments that force awareness and transformationGeraldine also shares powerful personal experiences, including overcoming autoimmune challenges, navigating illness without surgery, and leaving harmful environments by first shifting internally. Her message is clear:Awareness without action changes nothing. Real healing comes from doing the deeper work.

This week I was joined by Nashville based singer and songwriter Caleigh Rose! We had a really inspiring conversation mostly centered around her most recent project titled “UNBECOMING”. The album marked a jump back into music after some time away from creating and Caleigh spoke with me about the personal journey it took to see it through from start to finish. She spoke about dedicating one of the tracks to her daughter and the ways it has boosted the bond and relationship they both share while Caleigh has also seen many more blessings come from the process of creating this body of work. I think what stood out to me most is how she spoke on standing her ground creatively and protecting her vision for the album even before she knew what the end result would look like. It takes a lot of courage to execute your specific goals to that level of preciseness and I tip my hat to Caleigh for making it a reality for herself. If you're looking for music to help heal and provide a sense of peace and serenity I would not only recommend checking out “UNBECOMING” but also getting connected with Caleigh and the story she's sharing with the world!Consider donating to the show via our Ko-Fi profile here

Trauma does not stay in the past. It shapes behaviour, influences decisions, and drives the patterns people continue to repeat in relationships, health, and life.In this episode of Self Care, host Geraldine Hardy shares a deeply personal and grounded perspective on trauma, self-worth, and the cycles that continue until they are consciously addressed. Drawing from her own experiences with illness, burnout, and repeated relationship dynamics, she explains how unresolved emotional wounds can manifest physically and influence both personal and professional outcomes. This conversation moves beyond surface-level healing and into the reality of what it takes to break patterns at their root. It challenges the idea that leaving a situation means healing, and instead focuses on responsibility, awareness, and real transformation. This episode explores: • How trauma shapes behaviour and repeating life patterns • The connection between self-worth and the environments we accept • Why unresolved emotional wounds can manifest as physical illness • The link between burnout, chronic conditions, and deeper causes • Why patterns repeat across relationships and careers • The role of responsibility in breaking cycles • How to move beyond victimhood and create real change • Why healing requires addressing the root, not just the symptomsGeraldine also shares insight into her upcoming book Moments That Matter: A Journey of Healing, Remembering, and Unbecoming, offering a direct look at how awareness becomes action, and how transformation is built through confronting what most people avoid.Because healing is not about coping. It is about breaking the cycle.

After nearly 20 years as a corporate HR executive in tech and biotech startups, she had the corner office, the stock options, and the title, but felt completely disconnected. The breaking point came during IVF, when she realized mid-transfer that she didn't want children — and her husband, waiting in the car, felt exactly the same. That moment of radical honesty sent her on a years-long journey of unraveling everything she'd been told to want.In this episode, Hema walks Stephanie through the philosophy behind her coaching practice, Recalibrate, where she works one-on-one with high-achieving women in midlife who have "made it" by every measure but feel unfulfilled. She shares her process of guiding clients from discovery to a conscious "choice point," then into intentionally building a life rooted in desire rather than expectation — no quitting required, just micro-shifts in awareness. Today I am delighted to welcome activist and scholar Erin McElroy to the podcast. She is the author of a remarkable book, Silicon Valley Imperialism: Techno Fantasies in Postsocialist Times. At the center of this rich and provocative study is the Romanian city of Cluj, which has been dubbed the “Silicon Valley of Eastern Europe.”  McElroy untangles this notion by going back to the socialist period, whose technological advances made Romania a particularly attractive site for foreign tech investment after the fall of Communism. Erin explains how the arrival of what were called “digital nomads” into Cluj was first made possible by the brutal eviction of its Roma population.  As enticing as it is to map these evictions to similar displacements of racial minorities and the poor in the San Francisco Bay Area, Erin explores the fissures and disconnects between the two cases, as well as their eerie convergences. We end by, as McElroy writes, “reflecting on what bringing abolitionist and ant- imperial geographies together in post-socialist contexts can do. Just as global capital connections mapped the Siliconizing moment, other connections scaffold the very possibilities of unbecoming Silicon Valley.”Erin McElroy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Washington, where their work focuses upon intersections of gentrification, technology, empire, fascism, and racial capitalism, alongside housing justice organizing and transnational solidarities. McElroy is author of Silicon Valley Imperialism: Techno Fantasies and Frictions in Postsocialist Times (Duke University Press, 2024) and coeditor of Counterpoints: A San Francisco Bay Area Atlas of Displacement and Resistance (PM Press, 2021). Additionally, McElroy is cofounder of the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project—a data visualization, counter-cartography, and digital media collective that produces tools, maps, reports, murals, zines, oral histories, and more to further the work of housing justice. At UW, McElroy runs Landlord Tech Watch and the Anti-Eviction Lab which produce collaborative research and collective knowledge focused on intersections of property, surveillance, technocapitalism, and technolibertarianism.

You don't manifest what you want - you manifest who you are...Manifestation is a decision to show up as your authentic self and to set your boundaries. In this episode, I talk about my own journey of putting myself out there and how it can be unsettling to say things that you know to be true but people might not take well - this is especially true in the space around money and health. People do not like to acknowledge that their thoughts, feelings and beliefs are creating their reality - good and bad.It is also about how you react to other people's success. Are you in a low vibrational frequency - jealousy and envy? This needs to be turned around. We need to remember that what someone else has (even if we want that) has got nothing to do with our journey. Nothing. In fact, the only thing that it will do to us is put us in a low vibrational frequency. So, if you see someone has something that you want, use this line: Universe, Me Next! That's it. Watch your vibration switch up.The Universe will send you more of what you are willing to accept. You keep saying "yes" to things that you don't want - you will get more of that. How should one live? What should one do? And what do these questions have to do with being a good person? In Unbecoming Persons: The Rise and Demine of the Modern Moral Self (University of Chicago Press, 2025), Ladelle McWhorter reorients these questions through a genealogy of the concept of personhood. That genealogy is in the service of showing us not only that personhood is historically contingent, but that it is also optional. In unbecoming persons, we can feel relief, vital belonging, and exhilaration. We can also embrace an ethos of active belonging, a mode of living that eschews the trappings of personhood for the possibilities of life together. Learn more about your ad choices. So many women know what it feels like to live for other people's approval. Whether it's in our marriages, motherhood, friendships, or even our faith communities. We project the “perfect” version of ourselves: kind, put-together, selfless, always smiling… but most of us are just freaking exhausted. In today's episode, I sit down with Dr. Merry Lin, clinical psychologist, speaker, and author of The Fully Lived Life and The Great Unbecoming. Dr. Lin shares her personal story of growing up as the only Asian family in her community, and how she tried to become the “whitest, kindest, most Christian” version of herself just to be accepted. She opens up about what it means to live out of our shadow self—the insecure, performative part of us that craves belonging—and how that can keep us stuck in unhealthy cycles of performance and people-pleasing. Together, we also wrestle with a powerful tension many women feel: believing that living in their flesh is living in their essential, selfish self, and therefore sinful. But our essential self is not selfish. The Bible says we are created in the image of God, and the word for “image” means essence. That means who we really are—our true, God-breathed self—is a reflection of His glory. Every woman reflects a different aspect of that glory. In today's episode, we talk about: Why so many women feel like they must project a polished version of themselves (and how it's draining their souls). The difference between living out of the shadow self vs. the essential, God-breathed self. How compassion and grace for ourselves unlocks healing. Why unbecoming the false self is actually the only way to truly become who God made us to be. If you've ever felt like you're performing your life instead of actually living it, this conversation will remind you that freedom begins with unbecoming who you thought you had to be and resting in the truth of who God already says you are. In this special interview episode, I sit down with my friend and fellow traveler on the path, Heather Schenck. Many of you may recognize Heather from our online community—she's been part of our Sangha since 2020. What began as a personal journey through suffering and self-inquiry has now culminated in the release of her first book, Unbecoming Ourselves.Heather shares the deeply personal story behind her book—how her identity as a nurse, mother, and “good person” created a cycle of striving and self-judgment, and how Buddhist teachings like groundlessness, impermanence, and the nature of suffering helped her begin to loosen her grip on those labels. Together, we explore the difference between who we are and who we think we should be, and how compassion, curiosity, and mindfulness can guide us back to a more authentic way of being. We also talk about the sneaky nature of all-pervasive suffering, how perfectionism often disguises itself as growth, and how to skillfully work with the inner narrator many of us carry. Whether you've struggled with self-worth, identity, or perfectionism, this conversation offers powerful insights and gentle encouragement to soften around the stories we tell ourselves.Heather's book Unbecoming Ourselves is available now on Amazon. Vic discusses his upcoming memoir, 'Filthy: The Rise and Pending Death of Vic Laina,' which offers a raw and unfiltered look at his two decades in the adult entertainment industry. The conversation explores themes of identity, truth, and the recalibration of life post-industry, emphasizing the importance of creativity and personal growth. Vic shares insights into maintaining authenticity, navigating intimate relationships beset by career-induced chaos, and the eventual peace found through reflection and shedding past identities. The episode challenges listeners to embrace their creativity and live authentically, even amidst societal judgments and personal upheavals. About Vic Vic Lagina is a former adult film producer, director, and camera operator who spent over 16 years behind the lens of one of the most prolific production engines in the world—Brazzers/MindGeek. From 2004 to 2020, Vic helmed over 3,700 scenes for studios like Brazzers, Mofos, Babes, Wicked, and Digital Playground, working with more than 1,500 performers including top names like Nikki Benz, Phoenix Marie, and Shyla Stylez. Known for managing high-pressure sets and shooting up to 35 scenes a month across multiple crews, he brought precision and stamina to an industry built on performance. But beneath the metrics and media appearances—including occasional cameos on The Howard Stern Show—was a man unraveling the illusion. Vic's upcoming memoir, Filthy: The Rise and Pending Death of Vic Laja, strips back the fantasy to reveal the emotional cost of a life lived behind the curtain. Now on a path of radical unbecoming, Vic speaks with raw honesty about identity, intimacy, trauma, and the long road back to truth. Today, he lives outside the spotlight—grounded, reflective, and reclaiming creativity on his own terms. Through storytelling, music, and writing, Vic is reshaping his narrative—not as a director of others' fantasies, but as the author of his own becoming.   Show Notes:    00:37 Introducing Vic Laina: A Journey Through the Adult Entertainment Industry 01:03 Vic's Memoir: Filthy - The Rise and Pending Death of Vic Laja 02:02 Navigating Identity and Rewiring Post-Career 06:56 The Challenges of Intimacy and Connection in the Industry 09:45 Finding Peace and Reflection Post-Career 22:08 Creativity and Future Aspirations 25:53 Exploring Humor and Social Norms 26:25 The Journey of Writing and Reading 27:29 Embracing Brutal Honesty 29:36 Living with Authenticity 31:23 Impact of Intimacy on Personal Growth 33:56 Reflections on Past Relationships 36:42 Letting Go of the Past 40:07 The Importance of Kindness and Connection 44:21 Promoting the Book 'Filthy' 46:29 Final Thoughts and Farewell

Today we're exploring unbecoming and self-discovery. We'll look at the importance of stripping away old identities and beliefs that no longer serve us, particularly those rooted in childhood trauma. We need to create space for authenticity and self-acceptance, rather than striving for an idealized version of ourselves.  Key Takeaways: Healing from infidelity involves unbecoming old identities. Many beliefs about self-worth are rooted in childhood experiences. Unlearning is often more important than becoming something new. Creating space for authenticity allows for true self-discovery. The pressure to be better can stem from past trauma. It's essential to recognize what stories are not truly yours. Self-acceptance is a key part of the healing process. The journey of unbecoming can be uncomfortable but necessary. You are not defined by your past or the actions of others. Real work is about being present with yourself, not rushing to an outcome. He figures out she's a Ghoul who goes to cemeteries at night to feast on the newly-buried dead so rice was pretty ‘meh' for her.  17:48 “Unbecoming to put on over their caps” - threw me b/c of the Caleche's in Dracula - turns out they're related! Retractable hood to put over a cap! 19:34 Tennyson - a line about cedars from 1842's and in the original text It's missing from the published version so a conversation turn would have been less of an utter non-sequiter in the OG version. 20:30 Headsup for the crocheters in our midst. 20:48 - not included accidentally. 21:04 Visiting rules - more 49:40 ‘“My cousin might make a drive, I think,” said Miss Pole, who was afraid of ear-ache, and had only her cap on. '— spectacular set of non-sequiters (p41) 53:30 I saw, I imitated, I survived - Mary Smith as Cæsar - using rounded knife tip as a spoon-ish food delivery device Don't forget! George Herbert's poetry often draws on the natural world, gardens, and quiet reflection: 1. “The Flower” Theme: Renewal, the seasons of the soul, joy in growth Perfect for July because: It celebrates the resurgence of beauty and hope—after cold or darkness, flowers bloom again. “Grief melts away Like snow in May, As if there were no such cold thing.” “Who would have thought my shriveled heart Could have recovered greenness? It was gone Quite underground; as flowers depart To see their mother-root, when they have blown.” “Thy garden is not bare; And I shall find once more The sweet communion with thy saints.” 2. “Easter” Yes, it's tied to the holiday, but it also celebrates light and blooming. “Rise heart; thy Lord is risen. Sing his praise Without delays, Who takes thee by the hand, that thou likewise With him mayst rise.” Pair this with literal rising things—morning sun, lilies, tall foxgloves. 3. “The Pulley” Theme: Why God withholds perfect rest—so we seek Him. This works well in summer, when life feels abundant, but still leaves a twinge of longing. “When God at first made man, Having a glass of blessings standing by…” (and yet withheld rest, to draw man's soul back to God) A beautiful idea for a reflective pause among too-perfect blooms. 4. “Love (III)” Theme: Divine love, human unworthiness, and acceptance It's more theological, but gentle and moving—great for a quiet bench moment in a shady corner. “Love bade me welcome; yet my soul drew back…” “You must sit down,” says Love, “and taste my meat.” So I did sit and eat.” It pairs beautifully with the hum of bees and the hospitality of a garden. If you want a very short quote for your garden journal or bench-musing: • “Thou hast given me this herb of grace to smell and taste.” — from “Grace” • “Sweet rose, whose hue angry and brave…” — from “Virtue” • “He that in mirth and youthful jollity keeps measure, is more temperate than he that lets his sorrow flow out without check.” — from his prose The Country Parson *CraftLit's Socials* • Find everything here: https://www.linktr.ee/craftlitchannel • Join the newsletter: http://eepurl.com/2raf9  • Podcast site: http://craftlit.com • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CraftLit/ • Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/craftlit • Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/craftlit/ • TikTok podcast: https://www.tiktok.com/@craftlit • Email: heather@craftlit.com • Previous CraftLit Classics can be found here: *SUPPORT THE SHOW!* • CraftLit App Premium feed bit.ly/libsynpremiumcraftlit (only one tier available) • PATREON:   https://patreon.com/craftlit (all tiers, below) ——Walter Harright -  $5/mo for the same audio as on App ——Jane Eyre - $10/mo for even-month Book Parties ——Mina Harker - $15/mo for odd-month Watch Parties *All tiers and benefits are also available as* —*YouTube Channel Memberships*  —*Ko-Fi* https://ko-fi.com/craftlit  —*NEW* at CraftLit.com — Premium Memberships https://craftlit.com/membership-levels/ *IF you want to join a particular Book or Watch Patry but you don't want to join any of the above membership options*, please use PayPal.me/craftlit or CraftLit @ Venmo and include what you want to attend in the message field.
