On today's show, Matthew Santangelo (https://twitter.com/matt_santangelo) and I start by discussing the curios case of Dries Mertens' cheap buy-out clause which stands at between €25-30 million. Does he stay at Napoli? Or are those links abroad going to continue? Next we talk about one of the most coveted talents on the planet: Sergej Milinković-Savić. Where will he end up? Linked to Real Madrid, PSG, Barcelona, Manchester United and many more- could he go for a record fee this summer? Pietro Pellegri the 16 year old sensation that has recently moved to Monaco was also on the agenda. Is he a worthwhile investment? And how good could he become? Moving on and back to Naples, we discuss Lorenzo Insigne and his future. Is he going to be the heir to Maradona? Or is he going to be tempted by big money abroad? Now we couldn't discuss Serie A without Paulo Dybala. The 'heir to Messi' has become the Juventus talisman of late, but will his journey with the Old Lady finally be coming to an end this summer? Matt moves on to try and pick out some hidden gems from Serie A, maybe a few of these could rocket in the future on Football Index? Cengiz Ünder was one that popped up, hes come out of nowhere and flown on the market! Now Matt is also a stout Milan fan, but can the Milan clubs challenge for Serie A next season considering the investments coming into the clubs? Or is champions league as far as they can go for now. In Inter's case particularly it's probably more important to keep their best players and we discussed whether or not Milan Škriniar and Mauro Icardi will be at Inter Milan next season. It really was heartache for Italian fans last year as they failed to qualify for the World Cup and considering their average age, I asked Matt who will form the nucleus for the next Italy team. There were a few interesting names mentioned and a few are definitely worth monitoring on Football Index! Back to Juventus, Will Alex Sandro stay at Juventus past this season? After Chelsea's purchase of Emerson has that story fizzled out? Finally we talk about the best player outside the top 6 sides in Serie A: Lucas Torreira. Now Matthew is most definitely a Torreira fan boy, but don't let his enthusiasm be misunderstood as hype- Torreira is a special player! With a low buy-out clause as well, we talk about his potential destinations. If you did enjoy this, please do subscribe- and leave a review! This week on Defending in Numbers our host Rob Armstrong is joined in the studio by guests Ali Maxwell and pod debutant Alex Stewart. The transfer window has come and gone, so we run the rule over all the big moves in and out at Premier League sides. We also try to figure out the rules around cup-tied players. And we take a look at Pietro Pellegri, the Italian teenager who has signed for Monaco from Serie A side Genoa.
A bit of a catch up episode for Rapid Fire Transfers as the dwindling window meant a lot of moves have been made. The big ones, Guido Carillo and Pietro Pellegri saw the largest sums of this episode and Pellegri has a lot of hype and expectation following him to Monaco. We also have loans aplenty in Serie A, Bundesliga, Premier League, Ligue 1 and MLS. Learn where Leonardo Ulloa, Axel Tuanzebe, Joao Mario and many more were loaned to for at least the rest of this season. Also, Tim Cahill makes another move, this time back to England. Leave us a rating on iTunes and connect with us @WFT_Podcast on Twitter for more from Thomas and Ryan. Big shout out to The Understatement for letting us use their song "Apothecary" for our intro and outro. Frank Crivello and Richard Kharman sit down to discuss Amin Younes to Napoli, Pietro Pellegri to Monaco, VAR controversies with Milan and Crotone, refereeing decisions in Juventus and Napoli wins, and yes, there was actually some calcio being played too. We have the recaps from every game.
