Macon to the Mound: Destin Howard's UGA Journey In this standout episode of The SLIDE Podcast, we highlight “Macon to the Mound” as Georgia Bulldog pitcher Destin Howard steps up to share her journey from hometown hopeful to NCAA competitor. Hosted by Coach Aaron with co-hosts Rachel Garcia and Lily Scott, the episode offers an honest look into life as a D1 softball player, on and off the field. Faith, Family, and Finding Georgia From Macon to the Mound, Destin reveals how UGA wasn't initially her top choice. That changed when Coach Tony Baldwin took over the program. After visiting campus and feeling divine confirmation, she knew it was the place for her: “Georgia could offer me nothing and I would still come here.” Her story of perseverance through a tough COVID-era recruiting cycle is relatable for young athletes everywhere. Her high school stats back up the hype—500 strikeouts and a powerful presence on the mound that's now anchoring UGA's bullpen. Pitching Mindset and NIL Impact Destin has given up only two home runs in college thanks to a killer combo: a screwball that racks up strikes and a drop ball that gets swings and misses. “You have to just let it go,” she says of bouncing back from tough moments. While she used to chase strikeouts, college taught her to pitch for outs—however they come. Off the field, Destin says NIL “truly changed my life.” A marketing major with a future in sales or training, she's gained confidence by learning to pitch herself as a brand. She dreams of opening her own softball facility and helping the next generation thrive. Training, Transfers, and Pro Goals Destin shares tips for young players like Lily: don't focus on what school you want—focus on working hard. She also addresses her team's chemistry, her pitching routines, and how she's preparing for her senior year. Her ultimate dream? To play pro softball and make a lasting impact on and off the mound. Quote from Destin Howard: “Even though you're good, you've got to work harder.” Walkout Song: “The Largest” by BigXthaPlug Internal Link: Check out our other UGA episode with Alton Davis II. Chase Robinson and Jay Greeson preview the Oklahoma Sooners for the 2025 college football season. Topics Include: There is a lot of pressure on Brent Venables and Oklahoma this season after the year his program had last year. John Mateer was a huge addition at quarterback for the Sooners out of the transfer portal. Jayden Ott at running back will be a key piece offensively as well as the retooling the offensive line. The defense brings back a ton of guys who should be able to help get this back to an elite defense.

PowerMizzou's Gabe DeArmond joins Southeastern 16's Chris Lee to preview Missouri football for the 2025 college football season. Topics include: Penn State transfer quarterback Beau Pribula has been an efficient runner and thrower in limited experience. What does he bring--and could he be beaten out by Los Angeles Dodgers' pitching signee Sam Horn? Louisiana-Monroe transfer Ahmad Hardy had 1,423 yards from scrimmage as a true freshman and could challenge for the league's rushing title. The Tigers don't have tremendous experience at wide receiver, but Mississippi State transfer Kevin Coleman and Illinois State transfer Xavier Loyd both registered over 900 receiving yards last season. Missouri returns two of the league's better offensive linemen in Cayden Green and Connor Tollison, and adds Wake Forest transfer Keegan Trost at right tackle. The Tigers' defense is stout, thanks to transfers Damon Wilson III (Georgia), Josiah Trotter (West Virginia), Nate Johnson (Appalachian State), Jaylen Catalon (UNLV/Arkansas), Mose Phillips (Virginia Tech) and Stephen Hall (Washington State). Missouri returns a number of good defenders in Chris McClellan, Zion Young, Dylan Carnell, Dreyden Norwood, Toriano Pride and Marvin Burks, too. The Tigers' schedule is “easy” by SEC standards (no Texas, Georgia, LSU or Florida) but not easy on the whole (nine teams with a legitimate shot at bowl eligibility). Is the country sleeping on Missouri before the season starts?

Southeastern 16's Chris Lee and Chase Robinson preview Texas A&M's 2025 football season. Topics include: The Aggies return one of the SEC's best running backs in Le'Veon Moss, whose absence hurt the team dearly when he got hurt late in ‘24. They'll supplement him with three other returnees at the position. Marcel Reed enters his second year as a starter, and will have two impact receiver transfers in North Carolina State's Kevin Concepcion and Mississippi State's Mario Craver who'll help with team speed. Do the Aggies have the SEC's best offensive line? It's possible; left tackle Trey Zuhn, left guard Chase Bisontis, right guard Arm'aj Reed-Adams are all-star candidates. Plus, the Aggies have the two players who started all their games at center last year Mark Nabou Jr., who was knocked out for the year in the opener and replaced with Kolinu'u Faalu) and returning right tackle starter Demetrius Crownover. A&M's struggles against the run on defense led coach Mike Elko to take over play-calling duties this year. The Aggies will build around a pair of stars in All-American linebacker Taurean York and corner Will Lee III. Texas A&M also has talent up front in Cashius Howell and Albert Regis, but need to generate more pass rush. The Aggies have a schedule that isn't among the league's easiest or hardest. Circle the game at Notre Dame in Week 3; if Texas A&M avenges last season's loss, it could be in the driver's seat for a playoff berth.

Southeastern 16's Jay Greeson and Chris Lee preview Vanderbilt's 2025 football season. Topics include: Diego Pavia was one of the most exciting players in college football player, leading Vanderbilt to a winning season and a stunning upset of Alabama. On one hand, Vanderbilt turned the ball over the fewest number of times in the country, and film is out on Pavia, making repeating that unlikely at face value. On the other hand, Vanderbilt invested in a much-better offensive line to protect him, and Pavia spent the second half of last season playing banged up as his numbers declined. With better protection and maybe fewer carries, a healthier Pavia could negate all that and then some. But outside All-American tight end Eli Stowers, is the supporting cast of running backs and receivers good enough for the SEC? Defensively, Vanderbilt is bigger and deeper up front, has stars in linebacker Bryan Longwell, defensive back Randon Fontenette and cornerback Martel Hight, who's joined by a much-deeper cornerback group this year than was the case last season. The Commodores are better on paper a year ago. Will a brutal schedule allow for bowl eligibility again?

Southeastern 16's Jay Greeson and Chris Lee preview the Arkansas football roster for the 2025 SEC football season, with topics including: Taylen Green was great at times, which helped Arkansas to a top-10 finish in total offense. But the win-loss record didn't match due to turnovers and particularly the team's fumble problem. Fixing this is maybe the biggest key to Arkansas's year. The Razorbacks supporting cast on offense is full of quality players, but are any of them stars? The offensive line added a fantastic pass blocker in Georgia Tech transfer Corey Robinson, allowing coach Sam Pittman to move Fernando Carmona inside and giving Arkansas a good blind-side-protecting duo. The strength of the defense is linebackers Stephen Dix and Xavian Sorey. Can the Razorbacks get improved safety play through Miguel Mitchell and Auburn transfer Caleb Wooden, and will they be able to absorb the loss of Landon Jackson up front? Coach Sam Pittman enters the season on the hot seat. Will Arkansas be able to get bowl eligible with a brutal conference schedule?
