Some financial decisions come with clear answers. Others require balancing risks, opportunities, and a healthy dose of uncertainty. In our episode “May 30, 2026: Mortgages, Money Transfers & Monetary Policy,” we explore three areas where the right decision depends as much on context as it does on the numbers — from adjustable-rate mortgages and wealth transfers to the Federal Reserve's ongoing fight against inflation.Adjustable-rate mortgages are making a comeback, but this isn't a repeat of the housing bubble era. With special guest Shanna Squires from Henssler Mortgage Advisors, we break down how today's ARMs differ from the products that helped fuel the financial crisis, why some homebuyers are turning to them in a world of elevated mortgage rates, and whether they represent a smart strategy or a risky gamble on lower rates ahead.Next, we tackle a listener question about inheriting and gifting money. From estate taxes and inheritance taxes to annual gift exclusions and lifetime exemptions, we'll explain what the rules actually are—and just as importantly, what they aren't. If you've ever wondered how families can pass wealth to the next generation without creating unnecessary tax headaches, this conversation is for you. Finally, we examine a question many investors are asking: What happens when inflation is driven by supply shortages rather than consumer demand? With oil prices and geopolitical tensions once again influencing inflation expectations, we discuss the limits of Federal Reserve policy, why interest rates remain the Fed's primary tool, and the difficult tradeoffs policymakers face when fighting inflation that may be originating far outside their control.Join hosts Nick Antonucci, CVA, CEPA, Director of Research, and Managing Associates K.C. Smith, CFP®, CEPA, and D.J. Barker, CWS®, and Kelly-Lynne Scalice, a seasoned communicator and host, on Henssler Money Talks as they explore key financial strategies to help investors navigate market uncertainty. As millions of baby boomer business owners in the United States approach retirement, the country faces a major transition in business ownership. Over the next decade, millions of small and midsize businesses could be sold, transferred, or closed, with major implications for local economies, jobs, family wealth, and economic mobility. In this episode, we hear from partner Ken Yearwood and associate partner Nick Noel about the wave of business transfers on the horizon, the scale of the opportunity, and the risks of avoidable closures. They discuss what this transition could mean for buyers, sellers, private capital, employees, and rural communities, and explore how a broader and more inclusive ownership ecosystem could unlock long-term value. The middle-aged Pennsylvania couple had lived together for more than a decade, buying a home together and sharing other assets. They never got married. It didn't matter, they thought. But after he died of cancer recently, leaving her his entire estate, it did matter. A lot. Pennsylvania is one of a handful of states that still imposes an inheritance tax–a tax on transfers from a person who has died to the people who inherit, with rates based on the category of recipient. Transfers to spouses, but not to unmarried partners, are exempt. Pennsylvania subjected everything she was left to inheritance tax at the state's top 15% rate. The woman, who asked not to be identified, was shocked. Americans spend a lot of time thinking about where to live for tax purposes. States like Florida and Texas lure both billionaires and ordinary workers by touting their lack of a state income tax. Other states lure seniors with generous exemptions for retirement income. But another question gets less attention: Where is the most expensive place in the U.S. to die? By Kelly Phillips Erb, Senior Writer Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hi there! Welcome to Episode 349 of Never on the Backfoot Podcast. Mid-season transfers in the Indian Premier League sound like a game-changing idea but in reality, they're barely used. So why does this rule even exist, and more importantly, why do teams ignore it?In this episode, Naman Samtani joins us as we break down the logic behind mid-season transfers, the rules that govern them, and the glaring gap between intent and execution. From overloaded benches and unused talent to injury gaps and tactical needs, the IPL seems like the perfect environment for transfers to thrive, yet they don't.We also get into the bigger questions—are the rules too restrictive, are franchises too cautious, or is there simply no real incentive to make moves mid-season? And just for fun, we imagine what this season could have looked like if transfers were actually in play, picking players and scenarios that could've shaken things up.Missed opportunity or unnecessary rule? Tune in as we unpack one of the IPL's most underused and most intriguing—mechanisms.
Arsenal have the title in sight but Man City are close behind, so will the Gunners be going all out attack or holding strong at the back?
Sponsored by thegalindocollective.com - The bad blood between Texas State and UTSA spilled onto the diamond this week with the Bobcats getting run-ruled and then shoved by Roadrunners coach Pat Halmark in the post game handshake line. In this episode, former Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Scott Karl traces his path from Carlsbad standout to big league starter to financial advisor. He swaps stories with Jeff about Bandon Dunes and his move from California to Lake Norman, then dives into his career, getting a last-minute shot after the '94 strike, surviving as a finesse pitcher in a power era, facing legends like Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, and Sammy Sosa, and taking the mound during the 1998 home run chase. Scott shares how he lost roughly 70% of his portfolio in the dot-com bust while still playing, what it taught him about risk and advisors, and how it pushed him into wealth management. He explains why many athletes blow through life-changing money, how he builds portfolios with buffered ETFs, structured notes, and private credit, and how he manages expectations around upside, downside, and liquidity. The conversation widens to NIL, parents effectively betting travel-ball costs on scholarships, and the risk of turning college sports into a money race. Scott also talks about raising two Division I volleyball players, the mental side of high performance, and how those lessons carry into investing, before closing with his favorite baseball cities and parks, from Wrigley day games to the old Jake in Cleveland and nostalgic nights at Dodger Stadium.
