To read a machine-generated transcript, click here. Let's talk about bras! Specifically, dealing with bras one-handed! Don't worry. In this episode I don't opine on exactly what you put where to get the thing on. Instead, I talk with Rachel Whittaker, the Australian entrepreneur who turned a terrible situation into BraEasy -- The company in position to help bra wearers around the world. She tells us about her then 9-year old daughter stroke and how that led her to a bra the wearer could put on and take off easily with one hand Bio I am passionate about being a voice for people with a disability. After my daughter had a stroke during brain surgery to remove a brain tumor, I became very aware of the struggle that women have every day trying to put on a bra. So I invented an easier bra that can be put on with one hand.  We called it BraEasy.  I am the inventor and CEO of BraEasy Pty Ltd based in Melbourne Australia. How to Use It Here Jamie demonstrates how she puts on and removes the Bra Easy bra. https://youtu.be/KGuRFJIaHkk Models Bra Easy uses several models on their website, and most are not professional models. Because reflecting the customer base does not require professional models. Bra wearers of course come in all shapes, sizes, ages, colors, and limb configurations. So should the folks modeling the product. If you're interested in joining the models featured on the site and Bra Easy's social media, reach out to sales@BraEasy.com Links Where do We Go From Here? There's still strong interest in sustainable investing (SI) even in the challenging COVID-19 times. There's good reason for this: sustainable indices have shown resilience, governments are calling out for a 'green recovery,' and some of our SI-aligned themes should even get a boost from this crisis. Listen to CIO's sustainable investing experts discuss these trends in a replay of our most recent CIO global livestream. We could all use a little more community and connection at the moment, so I scheduled a Zoom call with two of my mastermind friends (I call them my "bizzy buddies"!), Jen Stanbrook and Rachel Whittaker. The three of us would normally meet up monthly in person in Nottingham city, but due to Covid-19, that's not possible, so Zoom it was. This is the recording of our chat together, and we talked about things we're grateful for, how we've all noticed a slump in productivity, and how our businesses have been affected by Covid-19, and how important we are in each other's lives.  Think of this as 3 girls chatting about life and business in this unusual situation. Enjoy! Want us to run another chat soon? Send me a DM @ClaireMockridge on Instagram and let me know, because it's not like we have anywhere else to be right now! Green Beauty Conversations by Formula Botanica | Organic & Natural Skincare | Cosmetic Formulation | Indie Beauty Business

If you have been hanging out in our Skincare Entrepreneur Mastermind Facebook group or other beautypreneur forums, you are likely to have come across our guest Rachel Whittaker of Indie Beauty Delivers, who is a tour de force in beauty logistics. She loves telling us why beauty logistics are not boring and why you should consider them as a really important part of how you set-up your business. Rachel has long experience in all aspects of logistics from warehousing to distribution and customer service, and some 17 years specifically in beauty brand logistics. She has worked with everyone from big name brands such as Coty Prestige and Proctor & Gamble (P&G) to indie start-ups launched from homes and garages. She was also a panel speaker at the Formula Botanica 2018 conference  and had some key insights to share about why beauty logistics are not boring. And you will find out just how not boring beauty logistics are in this fast-paced interview, "Logistics is a really important and exciting part of your brand", to quote Rachel, "as it's the first time your physical beauty products come into contact with your customers. It's a critical moment to get that encounter right, make a good impression and exceed their expectations." Whether you are intending to DIY fulfill your orders from home, already in business and wondering how to cope with fulfillment when upscaling and growing or need to work out how to distribute to retailers, our interview with Rachel is a must-listen.   In this episode on beauty logistics, you will hear about: Why the term logistics these days covers far more than the movement of goods from A to B and their storage. It's a very sophisticated industry with reach into every aspect of ecommerce and customer service; Why fulfillment is the most exciting part of your beauty business as it's about the customer receiving your products and how they delight in or otherwise react to their 'unboxing'; Why it's never too early in your entrepreneurial journey running and growing a beauty business to find out about logistics' options such as outsourcing even if you take them up only later on; and How some fulfillment centres and warehousing firms can act in effect as outreach staff, covering aspects of your business like customer service including running your site's live chat. Key takeouts from Rachel's interview include: The logistics industry runs on word-of-mouth referrals and testimonials as much as any other so ask around in various beauty entrepreneur groups online, as well as search social media and platforms like Linkedin, for recommendations of reliable, beauty-focused fulfillment centres and warehouses. View your warehouse or fulfillment firm as a business partner rather than just as an outsourced service. It is crucial to keep them informed on issues such as your growth plans, change of packaging or branding and other aspects that can help them assist you better. Visit any potential logistics partner; nothing beats having a face-to-face meeting to gauge their level of service, storage facilities and so on. Some logistics partners will have considerable expertise in the beauty retail industry and be able to help you in your approaches to key retailers and know what big name retailers expect from a beauty brand. Successful relations with your logistics partner are based on open, timely communications, which, even when things go wrong once in a while, can help you get back on track with your logistics. Logistics these days is about data and ecommerce tools so find out what kind of detailed insights your warehousing or fulfillment partner can provide you with to assist your business planning and strategy. In the episode, Rachel mentions her free Warehouse Match Service as well as her Indie Beauty Rockstars' Mentoring Programme which opens again for enrolment in the autumn. Rachel Whittaker is the founder of Indie Beauty Delivers, a community where indie beauty entrepreneurs can hang out, relax, network, learn and share ideas. Her mission is to empower as many beautypreneurs as possible to create pioneering, disruptive and iconic beauty brands by providing them with access to the resources and support they need to thrive. Her passion is using her entrepreneurial experience and 15 years of insider beauty industry know-how to help beautypreneurs create strong businesses built on robust systems that allow them to build and grow brands that stand out and get noticed without it totally taking over their headspace and life. The Takeaways: Indie Beauty Delivers was created to help small business owners improve the logistical aspect of their brand, which is one of the most important parts of growing a small business. Rachel Whittaker has 15 years of experience in the beauty industry and offers one-to-one VIP sessions with clients to help them focus on their social media, growing their online business, and working with retailers. If you're starting a small business, find what sets your brand apart from other brands. Be authentic in creating the brand, because the passion that drives your business is what will connect and draw your customer base in. Indie Beauty Delivers was created three years ago by Rachel Whittaker, an expert in the beauty logistics industry. She started her business after recognizing a growing need to help new entrepreneurs address the not-so-glamorous logistical aspect of running a small business. She works with small brands to understand the importance of prioritizing business logistics, what to avoid when starting a business, how logistics can make or break their business and provides individual advice and support through one-on-one sessions and workshops. Her one-on-one sessions are called VIP Days, which focus on working with retailers, launching an online platform, and setting up social media outlets.  Rachel’s goal is to reach small businesses early on in their development so that they can apply the information she provides as early as possible to avoid making costly financial mistakes. A business can have an incredible product with outstanding marketing, but if the logistical side of the business slips through the cracks, it can cause serious damage to the brand. Many small businesses, especially ones that are only available for online purchase, only make physical contact with their customers through the delivery process. If the product is damaged or delivered late, this can turn customers away, which reflects poorly on the brand. There has been an explosion of small businesses, especially in the skincare world. Rachel’s advice to new entrepreneurs is to really focus on what makes your brand unique, what sets you apart from other companies. If you build a brand based on your own passions, what drives you to create the brand in the first place, that authenticity will draw customers in. Creating a small business can be scary and intimidating, but you, too, can be successful if you stand strong in what you believe and learn about the logistical side of running a small business. "Don’t be afraid of who you are and what you believe in. That’s actually probably your best selling point and that will be the point where people connect with you and don’t connect with another brand. Because they’ll see something in you that they totally understand, related to, engage with, and are passionate about, and that’s what will make your brand grow." While speaking with Rachel, our conversation revisited the importance of connection numerous times. Her favorite part of running her business is the connection she creates with her clients, the brands she works with, and her support network group she meets with on a regular basis. We as humans need connection with one another to thrive, and that applies to the world of business as well. To learn more about Rachel, her business, her journey, take some time to listen to the full podcast episode. As a small business owner myself, I am so grateful for women like Rachel who focus their energy on supporting entrepreneurs, especially those who are creating lasting, positive, tangible changes for the world. Thank you, Rachel, for all that you do. You can also watch the full episode here. Make sure to check out Indie Beauty Delivers, whether or not you’re a small business owner.
