How do you go from giving short, tip-focused talks to inspiring audiences with a full keynote? That's exactly the journey our guest has taken and it's one so many of us can learn from. Our lead speaking coach Diane Diaz talks with Elaine Schomburg-LaFleur, a senior project engineer who has spent over 20 years in the theme park industry, including at Disney. Elaine thought of herself as “the tip girl” - packing her presentations with lots of helpful advice. But when she was invited to give her first keynote, she realized she needed a new approach. With the help of a VIP Day and our in-person Speaking Accelerator workshop, Elaine discovered how to weave stories into her talks, connect emotionally with her audience, and step into her authentic speaking style. The result? Not only did she deliver a powerful keynote to a room of young women engineers, she also caught the “speaking bug” and has continued landing and delivering talks that inspire. What You'll Hear in This Episode: Elaine's transition from sharing only tips to becoming an inspiring keynote speaker How storytelling makes even technical topics more engaging and memorable The role of authenticity in building confidence and audience connection What Elaine gained from practicing in community and receiving real-time feedback How she continues to grow her visibility and speaking career through LinkedIn and pitching opportunities Elaine's story is proof that you don't have to change who you are to be a great speaker - you just need to unlock the authentic voice that's already within you. About Our Guest: Elaine Schomburg-LaFleur is a Senior Project Engineer at AOA and has over 22 years of experience in the entertainment industry, leading projects in engineering, design, and technical management for major theme parks. She balances big-picture strategy with technical detail to bring projects to life. Outside of work, she's a certified sommelier, teaches wine classes, and mentors with the Society of Women Engineers. Passionate about STEM outreach, she loves inspiring the next generation. About Us: The Speaking Your Brand podcast is hosted by Carol Cox. In this episode of Beauty Moves, I'm breaking down the myths that keep beauty pros stuck in cycles of burnout and why starting over isn't the only path forward. If you've built something amazing but it's beginning to feel like it's running you instead of the other way around, this episode will show you how to restructure what's already working, create systems that protect your energy and scale without starting from scratch.
Welcome back to the Good Girls Get Rich podcast and I'm your host, Karen Yankovich. If you've ever thought, “I like working… I just hate the way I'm working,” you're not alone. This episode of the Good Girls Get Rich Podcast was inspired by a Facebook post from a new mom on maternity leave who dreaded going back to her job. She loved being productive and using her brain — but hated the micromanagement, the stress, the traffic, and missing her baby's milestones. And I remember that feeling. The early-morning commutes. The endless meetings. The sinking sense that your brilliance is building someone else's dream while yours waits on the sidelines. Here's the truth: This isn't burnout — it's misalignment. And alignment is your birthright. We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About The Episode and Highlights: In Episode 322, I share 10 high-income business ideas you can build from the career skills you already have — so you can work in your zone of genius, enjoy more flexibility, and create financial independence. These strategies work whether you're ready for a full career change or want to start something alongside your current role. The Consultant Path – Turn Your Expertise into a Premium Service Consultants get paid for their brains, not just their time. If companies hire outside experts for projects you could do, you can become that expert. Instead of billing hourly, create value-based packages that reflect the results you deliver. Example: If you're in HR, offer a “Recruitment Process Audit” for growing companies — at a premium rate. The Course Creator Path – Build a Profitable Online Program You've likely taught or explained something 100 times in your career. Package that knowledge into an online course, workshop, or training series. You can create it once and sell it over and over. Example: A PTA president could create “The Ultimate Guide to Running a Successful PTA” and sell it nationwide. The Coach or Mentor Path – Guide the Next Generation People already ask, “How did you do that?” Turn your experience into a coaching or mentoring business. Whether 1:1 or in a group, you can support the next wave of women in your industry Example: A finance VP could mentor women looking to break into leadership roles. The VIP Day Model – Deliver High-Value Results in One Day Some clients want high-touch, quick results and are willing to pay a premium for it. A VIP Day lets you dedicate one day to solving a client's problem from start to finish. Example: A yoga instructor offers a private, customized wellness retreat day — including movement, meditation, and nutrition planning — for $2,000. The Done-With-You Model – Collaborate for Success Perfect for perfectionists — you don't do everything for the client, but you work alongside them. This builds intimacy and keeps your workload lighter. Example: In my She's LinkedUp program, we write LinkedIn profiles with our clients, ensuring their voice shines through. Digital Products – Sell What You've Already Created Templates, checklists, email scripts, or spreadsheets you've made for your own job can become instant-download products. They sell while you sleep and position you as an authority. Example: A project manager could sell a “Team Communication Toolkit” with meeting agendas and templates. Speaking & Training – Get Paid to Share Your Expertise Corporations, associations, and schools all pay for expert speakers and trainers. Build a speaker kit and start pitching topics you're passionate about. Example: A marketing director could teach “Brand Storytelling for Nonprofits” at association events. The Thought Leadership Path – Build a Brand that Attracts Dream Clients Consistently showing up online builds authority. Post on LinkedIn, do podcast interviews, and publish articles. The more visible you are, the more opportunities come to you. Example: A career coach shares weekly LinkedIn posts and guest articles on work-life balance, leading to client referrals. The Advisory Path – Offer Strategic Guidance If you have expertise in startups, boards, or nonprofits, you can offer advisory services. It's a way to provide high-level input without being tied to a 9–5 schedule. Example: A retired educator advises a startup creating educational tech for schools. The Boutique Agency Path – Lead a Small, Profitable Team Hire a small team to do what you currently do and step into the CEO role. Start with just one or two clients and grow at your pace. Example: A social media freelancer builds a boutique agency specializing in Instagram marketing for women-led brands. Magical Quotes From The Episode: “This isn't burnout — it's misalignment. And alignment is your birthright.” “Stop pouring your brilliance into someone else's dream. Start building your own.” “Every single one of these business models is rooted in skills you already have — you don't need another certification.” “The life you want is closer than you think, but you have to choose it.” Resources Mentioned In the Episode: I created a special guide to go with this episode — 50 Business Ideas from Real-Life Paychecks. Do you ever feel like you're stuck in the "expert trap" - sharing lots of great information, but not quite connecting with your audience the way you want to? In this episode, I talk with Dr. Teri DeLucca, founder of Impact Early Education and a graduate of our Thought Leader Academy, about how she made the bold leap from academic researcher and fact-based presenter to transformational speaker and sought-after thought leader. Teri has not one, but TWO PhDs (yes, you read that right!), and like many high-achieving women, she found comfort in data and research. But as she began training preschool teachers and school leaders, she realized that just presenting facts wasn't creating the impact she truly wanted. In our conversation, Teri shares: What led her to start her own business and step into entrepreneurship The power of personal storytelling in leadership and speaking How embracing vulnerability changed everything for her and her audiences Her transformation through the Thought Leader Academy and how it impacted her signature talk Her behind-the-scenes prep for a major international keynote (and why she called me in for a VIP Day!) Why it's not only okay, but essential, to share your personal challenges as a speaker and leader If you've ever worried that being real with your audience might hurt your credibility, you need to hear what Teri says about the moment she realized not sharing her struggles was actually holding her back. Teri's story is proof that when you let go of perfection and speak from a place of truth, that's when real transformation happens—for you and the people you're meant to reach. We believe that every presentation, whether internal or external, at a conference or at a board meeting, has the power to shift how your audience views a topic and the positive changes that can come as a result. It's not just about delivering information – it's about shifting perspectives, sparking new ideas, and inspiring action. This episode is the audio from a live show we did with two of our recent Thought Leader Academy grads: Dr. Bonnie Boles and Denise Cárdenas López. Both Bonnie and Denise are executives at companies and often present both internally to team members as well as externally at conferences and to groups. When we worked with them in a VIP Day to create their signature talk as part of the Thought Leader Academy, we kept both of these audiences in mind. You'll get to hear Bonnie and Denise deliver a 10-minute version of their new signature talk. We also have a roundtable discussion about what they've learned from being in the Thought Leader Academy and what's next for them as speakers and thought leaders. Because “revenge success” might light the fire… But proving your desires right? That's the flame that never goes out.
In this episode of Literally First Class, host Keri Ford discusses the importance of redefining success and the necessity of slowing down in the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship. Drawing on personal experiences and the story of Bumble's founder, Whitney Wolf Herd, Keri emphasizes that true success is not just about financial gains but also about fulfillment and peace. She encourages listeners to build intentional rest into their schedules and to understand their nervous systems to create sustainable success without the pressure of constant sprinting. The episode concludes with actionable takeaways for listeners to implement in their lives. Takeaways Success looks like being able to do what keeps me home. You have to build in seasons of sustaining and slowing down. It's not necessarily about more money. It's about more fulfilment. You can't run your business in a sprint 24/7. You will fuel your success through stress. Sustainable momentum's not necessarily about speed. Not everything has to be hard. Help me find that passion again. You're not alone in that. Freelancers and digital strategists are always looking for smarter ways to serve clients, raise their rates, and avoid burnout from endless “done-for-you” work. If you've ever imagined charging $5,000 (or more) for just one day of high-impact strategy, this episode could be your guide. This week, I'm sharing how I transformed my freelance business by creating profitable VIP Days that highlight my strategic thinking—no more endless to-do lists. Just four focused hours working closely with clients and earning serious income. I'll walk you through my “Four P” framework so you can start offering premium VIP Days of your own.Topics Covered In This Episode:The Four P Framework: The structuring of a successful VIP day revolves around four key Ps—Promise, Prep, Provide, and Propel.Define a Clear Promise: The success of a VIP day starts with a clear, outcome-specific promise that the client will get by the end (e.g., a paid marketing plan ready for their next launch).Thorough Preparation Is Critical: Ensure you and your client are both prepped before the VIP day. This includes onboarding questionnaires and clear expectations in your contract.Set Strong Client Expectations: Clearly outline what the day will entail and what's needed from the client. Doing this can prevent both disappointment and scope creep.Client Interaction Is Key: Unlike some “behind the scenes” VIP days, strategist VIP days are highly interactive and collaborative with the client present the whole time.Propel Clients to Their Next Step: At the end of the VIP day, provide a clear plan and next steps, which often leads to additional consulting or implementation work (more revenue for you).Leverage VIP Days as an Upsell or Lead-In: Many clients will want to hire you for ongoing or done-for-you services after experiencing the value of your VIP day—making this not just a stand-alone offer but a business growth strategy.Find the full show notes at: https://brandimowles.com/254Loved This Episode? Send us a textIn this episode, Rachel gets real about the outdated (and straight-up toxic) beliefs still floating around the direct sales industry. From team building myths to hustle culture, she's calling out the nonsense that's keeping leaders stuck—and sharing what actually leads to growth in 2025. If you've ever felt guilty for wanting more or wondered if you're allowed to build something outside your company, this one's for you.Key Points Covered:Why team building is not the only way to grow your income. Rachel shares her experience of earning more from a $19 product than from her entire team and sales combined. The myth that wanting more makes you greedy or ungrateful. Growth ≠ betrayal. Wanting more is a sign of vision, not disloyalty. How building something of your own doesn't make you a traitor. Loyalty to yourself ≠ disloyalty to your company. You can support your team and your future. Why hustle culture is toxic—and what to focus on instead. Burnout isn't a badge of honor. Strategy, peace of mind, and aligned work matter more than overworking. When 'stick with it' is actually harmful advice. Sometimes it's time to pivot—and that doesn't mean you're a quitter. The truth about corporate loyalty (it's not what you think). At the end of the day, your company is loyal to its bottom line. In this episode of Literally First Class, Keri Ford dives into the often-misunderstood world of healing and mental health - specifically, what the industry gets wrong. From the limits of talk therapy to the overuse of trauma buzzwords, she breaks down why somatic work is the missing piece for real transformation. You'll hear why “trauma-informed” isn't enough, how to spot trained practitioners, and how true healing starts with permission, not perfection. It's candid, eye-opening, and packed with insights for growth-driven women ready to deepen their personal evolution. Takeaways: The healing and mental health space has significant gaps. Cognitive behavioral therapy often fails to create real transformation. Awareness alone is not enough for healing; integration is key. Healing involves allowing all feelings rather than trying to eliminate them. Permission is essential for true healing to occur. Over-pathologizing can perpetuate feelings of shame and brokenness. Spiritual bypassing can hinder genuine healing efforts. Not all practitioners are equally trained; discernment is crucial. Somatic work addresses the deeper layers of trauma. True healing requires a personalized approach based on individual experiences. In this episode of Literally First Class, host Keri Ford discusses the duality of strength and softness in entrepreneurship. She emphasizes the importance of knowing when to fight for success and when to rest, highlighting the need for balance in the lives of female founders. Through personal anecdotes and insights, Keri encourages listeners to embrace both hard work and self-care as essential components of their journey. Takeaways: Mastery involves knowing when to fight and when to rest. Many entrepreneurs struggle with the balance of hard work and relaxation. Hard work is essential, but so is self-care. The fear of failure can drive excessive work habits. It's important to recognize when to take a break. Success requires both grit and the ability to soften.
