On this episode meet Sam Westby. Recently Sam and his dad loaded up their bikes and rode across the country. Sam started bike touring with the family at the age of 9 and riding across the country with his dad was a bucket list vision for many years. This year the stars aligned with both of their schedules so they put a plan and a route together and away they went. Sam was on a bit of a time crunch so with fully loaded touring bikes, they launched from Oregon with a goal to end in New Jersey. They averaged 86 miles a day over 42 days, logging in 3,600 miles! Sam talks about the adventure, and the bond with his dad that strengthened even more while they biked their way across the US. https://www.instagram.com/samcwestby/ www.murphologypodcast.com https://linktr.ee/Murphology Email me at murphologypodcast@gmail.com if you have a topic or the name of a cyclist you find interesting. This week, Sam Miller joined me in the Physically Distant Studio.  Sam Miller is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, singer, and producer. He has released two full-length studio albums - In One Place at a Time in 2019, and You Need To Hear It in 2014. He has also travelled a lot and been a part of countless musical projects since first calling himself a professional musician over a decade ago. Recently Sam released two new full-length albums, featuring the work of Johann Sebastian Bach (Bach – Human Arpeggiator) and Eric Satie (Phonometographer). These albums give us a glimpse at his musical dexterity, easily jumping from Grunge Americana, to polished synth-filled ballads, to classical music. Sam Miller is a rambling man who is finally finding his place. In this episode, he tells us about his creative process, tells some of his life story, and let's us in on what he is working on now. He has not wasted a minute of his time sheltering in place in Sonoma California, and instead has used all this “down time” to embark on a whole slew of creative projects.     ----more----  Sam Miller on Bandcamp https://sammiller.bandcamp.com/music  Sam Miller on Instagram @sammillermusic Sam Miller on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXKAdgwBUbrLop5X40YDd_g Sam Miller on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/6elA7dYpPdk9p909LASGmb?si=AvQfEuXaTx6bzLEdUGmF7A Sam Miller on YouTube Music https://music.youtube.com/channel/UC02rTpzp1-hmsIRXFImLjvQ Write up in Music Mecca https://www.google.ca/amp/s/musicmecca.org/folk-songwriter-sam-miller-releases-silver-and-gold/%3famp Write up in The Other Side Reviews https://www.theothersidereviews.com/track-of-the-day-sam-miller-blood-moon-honeymoon/ Write up in American Pancake https://www.americanpancake.com/2020/03/blood-moon-honeymoon-by-sam-miller-with.html?m=1 Bootleg Sessions Vol. 2 Sam Miller's fixed gear bike tricks https://youtu.be/QJ-HXBumcLM All songs used with permission by Jenny Invert Records: The Steady Flow of Time, by Grand Canyon 2010 Blood Moon Honeymoon, by Sam Miller 2020 Ava Maria, composed by JS Bach, performed by Sam Miller 2020 Je te Veux, composed by Erik Satie, performed by Sam Miller with Laura Weinbach 2020   ----more---- For more information or to join the conversation, visit thisamazingstory.com Or send mail to host, Malcolm McMillan. You have died of the measles. You receive a snakebite and you have died. You entire party has died of exhaustion. You have typhoid... and you died. Zeke has died from cholera. You have suffered an accidental gunshot wound... and you have died. You have died of dysentery. Your entire party has drowned. Sound familiar? Sam Bahman is an artist who has recently re-imagined a number of video games into fully-realized arcade versions. Games like Mega Man, Zelda, and Duck Tales never existed originally in arcades. He created a Nintendo style arcade cabinet from scratch and brought them all to life in glorious technicolor! Recently Sam was commissioned to create a *NEW* unique cabinet: OREGON TRAIL! Oregon Trail, originally designed for MECC - The Minnesota Education Computing Corporation is a simple, challenging, and educational computer program with immense replay value. It became a staple for the Apple II in the late 70s and early 80s and was eventually ported to many other systems over the years. Episode 99 - Interview - Sam Fogarino Of Interpol

The North Georgia country side doesn't normally evoke the thought of rock stars. However Interpol drummer, Sam Fogarino, doesn't particularly care to live up to stereotypes. He's experienced the city life and finds himself quite comfortable living miles away from the rat race. Recently Sam invited me to his home and we set up shop in his guest house turned studio. We discussed the local music scene and his recent move just before the mics were turned on. Once we began our conversation flowed freely and easily. Sam discussed growing up in west Philadelphia and how he started playing drums. He navigates through his learning process and how his curiosity and spirit of investigation led him during his formative years. After several relocations Sam took a chance and moved to New York City with the hopes of finding like minded musicians to form a new band. While working in a clothing store (which sold vinyl as well) and contemplating the woes of the music business he was invited to watch a friend's band play. Ultimately it was the start of his relationship with Daniel Kessler and Paul Banks from Interpol. During a first for the DWG Phil and Sam listen to the Interpol song, "Obstacle 1" while Sam analyzes the song in real time! Listen closely to really get inside the creation and recording of this Interpol favorite. From there Sam tells us about a day in the life of an Interpol tour, his gear, the upcoming album release and tour, and the band's appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert (Friday, June 8th). Finally we finish the show with a run through the gauntlet that is the DWG Rorschach Test.
