Enjoy this engaging interview with Kristy Matthews, the world indoor record holder in the 400 meters in the female 50+Masters division of Masters track&field! She can run 58 seconds for 400 meters, which is on a par with collegiate level athletes! Indeed, Kristy was a collegiate track star at San Diego State University - a conference champ in the 800 meters and qualifier for the 1992 Olympic trials. Kristy eventually took a 30-year break from competitive track, played adult soccer at a serious level, and then burst onto the masters track&field scene in recent years. She excels at distances ranging from 100 meters to the mile! (in 2025 Midwest championships she swept all these events!). She also competes at the elite level in adult soccer leagues - a versatile champ defying our typical notions of aging. In this episode, Kristy describes her empowering mindset that she claims is the centerpiece of her success, her lifestyle routine that allows her to continue to perform at the highest level, and some tips that we can all implement immediately to pursue and achieve worthwhile goals that promote longevity. TIMESTAMPS: This guest has set world records in the 400 and is in the 50 to 54 age group. [01:17] Kristy's athletic life started as a runner in college where she was on a full scholarship. [06:11] Even as she grew older and became pregnant, she was highly motivated to stay very fit in order to give her child a long presence in her life. [09:30] She had a 30 year hiatus from competitive track. [11:36] What is her secret to being able to run at age 52, with the same times as college comepetition? [18:32] Take the time to ask yourself, "How are you doing?" Embrace who you are. [21:31] Accept where you are. Identify what you want to accomplish. [23:06] Ask yourself, "Why are I doing this?" Make sure you understand all the reasons. [29:55] What does Kristy's training look like? [32:21] Kristy also plays soccer and sprints. [37:56] Unfortunately, we do not see many people competing in the over 50 age group. [39:41] Kristy is trying out Peluvas and tells Brad what experience she is having. She likes feeling the ground. Jason (& Greg when he joins) chat to Sarah Webster, a 46-year-old veterinary surgeon, mum, and the women's 24-hour world record holder. She ran 278km — 173 miles — around a track in Albi, France, and it was only her second attempt at the distance. She didn't run her first ultra until she was 43.In this episode, we sit down with Sarah to unpack how a self-described "not particularly talented" junior runner returned to the sport in her mid-30s, built patiently for a decade, and ended up rewriting the record books — all while holding down a full-time job and raising a family.Support the showClick here to subscribe to our newsletter and automatically get our latest podcasts, blogs, offers etc into your inbox.

Since his last appearance on the show, Coach Pat Henner has continued shaping distance culture at the highest levels of the sport while playing a quiet but meaningful role in one of the most remarkable middle-distance arcs in recent American history. After joining the University of Georgia in June 2022, Henner coached standout athlete Will Sumner to an NCAA title and helped elevate the Bulldogs' distance program before departing in June 2024. He was succeeded by Adam Tribble. At the same time, Henner has served as a high-performance consultant for Olympic middle-distance star Hobbs Kessler, helping to shape one of the sport's most historic breakthroughs: Kessler qualifying for the Paris Olympics in both the 800m and 1500m at the U.S. Olympic Trials.More recently, Kessler shattered Kenenisa Bekele's long-standing indoor 2000m world record, running 4:48.79 in January 2026.Henner's coaching roots stretch from Blacksburg High School to James Madison, Georgetown (where he led the women to an NCAA cross country title in 2011), USC, Arizona State, and most recently the University of Georgia, where he served as Head Cross Country Coach and Assistant Coach for the distance events from 2022–2024.But this episode isn't a résumé tour. It's a check-in with a coach who's still evolving; still shaping athletes at the very top of the sport; still refining how wisdom, timing, and trust converge when performance truly matters.Tap into the Pat Henner Special. In this episode of 'Created for This,' host Danielle welcomes Jordan Eggert, a professional athlete and American record holder in the women's decathlon, who is passionate about integrating her faith with her athletic career. We discuss the importance of placing Christian identity before athletic identity, the structure of the heptathlon and decathlon, and the ongoing efforts to include women's decathlon in the Olympics. Jordan also shares her insights on maintaining confidence without pride, the value of humility, handling failures and successes, and the significance of intentional rest and Sabbath. 00:00 Introduction to Created for This 00:37 Meet Jordan Eggert: Professional Athlete and Devout Christian 02:49 Understanding the Decathlon and Heptathlon 05:08 Balancing Confidence and Humility in Faith and Athletics 10:47 Handling Success and Failure with Grace 15:06 Living Out Your Calling with Dedication 22:36 The Importance of Rest and Recovery 24:55 Jordan's Journey to the 2028 Olympics 28:04 Conclusion and Call to Action Follow Jordan on Instagram Sign the petition to let women Decathlon in the 2028 Olympics. More about Jordan in her own words: I'm Jordan Eggerth. I am a professional athlete and the American Record Holder in the Women's Decathlon with a passion for Track and Field and sharing Jesus through my sport! I have been beyond blessed in my life through my walk with Christ and He has helped shape me into the person I am today through trials, tribulations, love, grace, heartache, passion, grief, joy, pain, and His amazing plan with it all. Since He has given me such a platform to reach others, I have decided that I should be sharing Him in every avenue I possibly can and sharing His amazing stories in my life to help inspire and help others. I played many sports growing up including basketball (my passion), taekwondo, tennis, softball, and gymnastics. Even when I wasn't in an organized sport my days usually included lots of swimming, bike riding, tree climbing, knife throwing, gun/bow shooting, and many more activities. Track and Field, however, was not a sport I had the opportunity to compete in until my senior year of high school. In my senior year of high school my mother found Blane Williams with the Heat Track club at Kell High School. Coach Blane allowed me to join his team at 17yrs old and that opportunity has changed my life forever. After a year of running with The Heat I went to school at Kennesaw State University to join their Track and Field team and be coached by Andy Eggerth in 2014. Since then, I have graduated from Kennesaw State University where I was a 10x Conference Champion and 4x All-American in NCAA Division I Track and Field. I have competed at NCAA D1 Championships, USA Championships, the Thorpe Cup in Germany for Team USA x2, The National Women's Decathlon Championship x2, and the Open De France. I was also the Bronze Medalist at the Pan American Games in 2023. I continue with my professional career attempting to gain a spot on Team USA for various events. I am the American Record Holder in the Women's Decathlon, as well as the Women's Decathlon 100m Dash, Long Jump American Record Holder. I am also the World Record Holder in the Women's Decathlon Long Jump I am currently working towards helping get women the opportunity to compete in the Olympics in the Decathlon.
Available to subscribers only until end of Season 5 (March 2026).I have the nicest World Record Holder back on the podcast, he's an astonishing swimmer: swimming faster than most can only dream; but has also become a global ambassador for our sport, championing change in our oceans and doing all he can to remain as front facing as possible. He completed the Ocean Seven in 2023 when he became the first person in history to achieve the Oceans Seven within a calendar year, and he also holds the record for the fastest cumulative time.… among his number of swimming achievements since the O7 include a record breaking Round Manhattan Swim and he's gone on to swim around Ibiza in a two person relay with Nathalie Phol, braking another record in the process. It's of course the wonderful Andy Donaldson.

On this weeks podcast, I speak with Ironwoman and world record holder, Bonnie Hancock. Bonnie spent 254 days, travelled 12,700 kilometres, battled sea sickness, sharks, crocodiles, and the ocean. Bonnie broke numerous records on her fastest ever circumnavigation by paddle around Australia, but that wasn't the achievement she is most proud of. Testing the limits of her mental and physical toughness, she learned what it means to overcome adversity and how important teamwork and perspective truly are. What looks distressing from the rocky shore or storm-tossed waves can be inspiring when you look to the heavens. Bonnie is the author of "The Girl Who Touched the Stars", which is a love story, a travelogue, and an exhilarating exploration of human ambition coming face-to-face with the beauty and power of nature. But most of all, it's a lesson in overcoming self- doubt, trusting others and finding your true self. Bonnie demonstrates vividly and honestly the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of reaching for the stars. Bonnie talks about growing up as a young surf lifesaver and competing in the Ironwoman series with her older sister Courtney, and what it takes to compete at the elite level. This is a raw and honest, powerful chat about pushing your body to the limit and discovering who you. Bonnie set a target to raise $100,000 for the charity Gotcha4Life. Bonnie achieved that goal as she paddled into the finish line on the Gold Coast after paddling for 254 days and 12,700 Kilometres. Presenter: Adam Blum Guest: Bonnie Hancock Editor: Kyle Watkins

Mimi Anderson started running at the age of 36 (after a long battle with anorexia).Over the next 20 years, she went on to set multiple Guinness World Records. Her achievements include: * completing the Badwater Double; the return trip from Death Valley where the race starts to Mt Whitney, and back - a journey of 469km,* winning outright the 6633 Extreme Ultramarathon, a self-supported non-stop race over 560km in the Arctic Circle in which you drag on a sled everything you need to survive that took her almost 6 days to finish, and* setting Guinness World Record for the fastest time by a female running the length of England and the record for a woman running across Ireland. Now it hasn't all been smooth sailing. In 2017, she attempted to set the record for running across America - that's over 5000km. Sadly, that attempt ended due to injury and it also brought an end to her ultrarunning career. But you can't keep a woman like Mimi down for very long!So in her late 50s, she learnt to ride a bike, overcame a life-long fear of open water and finished her first triathlon.

What if you could transform your life from a pack-a-day smoker who gets winded after 500 meters to a world-record athlete? In this episode, we talk to Marie Leautey, the fastest woman to run around the world, who did exactly that. She reveals the incredible story of how an ordinary financial director with no athletic background ran the equivalent of a marathon every single day for 825 days, covering 28,249 kilometers across four continents. How is it possible to endure such a feat without a single running injury, especially when facing a global pandemic, financial strain, and unbelievable logistical challenges?Marie Leautey shares the unfiltered story behind her book, "Lootie's World Run." We explore the official World Runners Association rules that guided her journey, including the requirement to cross a minimum of four continents and pass through two antipodal points. A huge part of her success was figuring out how to avoid running injuries, a problem that sidelines up to 70% of typical marathon trainees. Marie explains her unique "body scan" technique, a mental checklist she performed daily to listen to her body's signals, rejecting the "no pain, no gain" mentality. This strategy was crucial for running a marathon every day without issue. The conversation takes a dramatic turn as Marie recounts the moment her journey was halted by the global pandemic. We learn about her experience running during COVID lockdown, where she was forced to pause in Italy, only to find a creative and meaningful way to continue her training: by delivering meals to the homeless on the streets of Paris while pushing her 30kg stroller. Marie also shares unbelievable stories from the road - from a stroller company that rejected her sponsorship request with a legal letter, to a heartbreaking encounter with a grieving mother in North Dakota, a bizarre run-in with a drunken raccoon in Pennsylvania, and a costly mistake involving an onion that led to a $2,600 fine in Australia. This is a profound story about resilience, minimalism, and discovering that the journey, not the destination, is the ultimate reward.About Our Guest:Marie Leautey is the author of "Lootie's World Run" and the world-record holder as the fastest woman to have run around the world. In a remarkable transformation, she went from being a chain-smoking financial director to an elite endurance athlete, completing her global circumnavigation on foot in 825 days. Her story is a powerful testament to human potential and the power of redefining one's limits.Timestamps / Chapters:(0:00) From Chain-Smoker to World Record Holder(5:20) The Official Rules for Running Around the World(8:47) How Marie Avoided Injury While Running a Marathon a Day(12:08) An Unstoppable Run Meets a Global Pandemic(17:22) The 30kg Companion: Pushing a Stroller & Embracing Minimalism(20:26) A Sponsorship Story: The Stroller Company That Said No(23:27) Finding an Inner Pace: The Psychology of Running Without a Watch(33:09) From Solo Runner to a Team of Two(36:32) From a Grieving Mother to a Drunken Raccoon: Stories from the Road(45:26) The Ithaca Philosophy: Why the Journey Is the True RewardLearn More From Our Guest / Episode Resources:Get Marie's book, "Lootie's World Run"
We went face-first into a quart of ice cream before this amazing episode! The main science topic was a new study on microintervals, finding that 4-10 second high-power bursts led to no more metabolic stress than very easy training, but with way more muscular work. That could lay the groundwork for revolutionary studies and theories in the future! We also addressed the doping controversy that rocked the running world. Last year, Ruth Chepng'etich ran a shocking 2:09 marathon to reset everything that seemed possible. In April, she tested positive for a banned masking agent, and her suspension was just announced last week. We provide our initial reactions, including how to balance being compassionate and forgiving to individuals while being skeptical and critical of corrupt systems. And this one was full of our favorite topics! Other topics: Megan's pacing experience at the Ouray 100 Mile as Dr. Teddy Bross set a new course record, building strength to use poles, the "Breakable" documentary, Tadej Pogacar's Tour de France domination, other Tour stories, middle distance running's stunning improvement, why we think that may be attributable to sodium bicarb, a tribute to one of our favorite poets, plus a Q+A on building small businesses in endurance sports, dog supplements, training and motivation, and the afterlife.I'll take the usual: A running podcast that talks about the afterlife and even deeper thoughts about miniature horses. The performance shocked the running community at the time — questions and doubts sparked a parliamentary inquiry in Kenya after a journalist's pointed question at the press conference. We even released a podcast titled “Too Good To Be True?” analyzing the run. Now, that skepticism feels vindicated. Ross breaks down why the doubts were justified despite the usual defenses ("she's always been talented", "she worked hard"). He explains what a diuretic does, why this kind of doping bust leaves him cold and underwhelmed, and how it fits a familiar pattern in elite sport. We also explore the shadowy roles of agents and coaches — and ask why it's always the athlete left holding the bag? Finally, Ross reflects on the cycle of hope, hype, and heartbreak that defines modern sport — from the marathon course to the Tour de France, can we trust what we see? Why should we, when the characters and incentives remain the same? Whether you're a skater, in recovery, or just need a push to chase your own goals — this episode is for you. Follow Chad on Instagram: @chad_caruso Check out his book: Pushing Through America In This Episode You Will Hear: • I've been skateboarding for a little over 25 years. That's really all I've devoted my life to. (3:19) • I definitely recommend finishing school. (5:36) • It doesn't happen overnight. You go to a party here, a party there. Then you're 26, 28. The habit thing. I didn't want to be a part of the system. I was just all about rebelling. (7:40) • That was the real turning point [when facing jail time] I had to look around and say “Alright, what are you doin?” (10:02) • [I got into the Guinness Book of World Records] It was this year. (13:30) • It's nice to get the pat on the back, but ultimately, it was about much more than that. It was about giving up the drinking, focusing on something positive. I did the Skate Across America to raise money for charity. (13:40) • When you're at the start line it's all fun. Everyone's there filming, talking, it's exciting. Then you push off, and then a couple of miles in, you're like “Oh, I'm gonna be doing this for the next 2 months. (18:32) • [I completed the entire distance with] 1 board; I didn't change the wheels or the bearings, or anything. (23:56) • Even if it's way slower than you normally go, if you keep treading that ground, you're gonna make it there. (28:55) • I figured out that if I skate head-on to trucks, like tractor trailers; they're coming at me at 70 mph. If I made myself seen, I could take over the whole lane. So, I would basically play chicken with them, and wave them out of the way. (30:14) • [At the finish] The mayor put his hand up for a high five. I skated right past him, I didn't even notice. (35:23) • “If you keep pushing, you're gonna get there.” (36:17) • When you're out there alone for so many hours, all the noise of society and people's opinions kinda fades away. Are you ready to take on the mountain that will CHANGE your life? In this episode, I had an amazing chat with Jenn Drummond, a world-record mountaineer whose journey from a stay-at-home mom to a fearless adventurer is seriously inspiring. Her story kicked off after she survived a life-changing car crash in 2018, a wake-up call that made her decide to seize life's moments and break through her limiting beliefs. Her journey, which she shares in her book "Breakproof: Seven Strategies to Build Resilience and Achieve Your Goals," shows the power of breaking through limiting beliefs, staying curious, and pushing forward with the help of a great team. By taking risks, trying new things, and challenging ourselves, we find hidden talents and strengths we never knew we had. It's in those uncomfortable moments that we truly SHINE! In This Episode You Will Learn About: How to EMBRACE curiosity and let yourself fail while chasing your dreams Ways to bust through limiting beliefs and really be in the moment Why you need to SURRENDER and let go during tough times to find peace and freedom What it means to acclimatize to challenges, reflect, and learn from setbacks as you move toward your goals Resources + Links Sign up for a one-dollar-per-month trial period at shopify.com/monahan Download the CFO's Guide to AI and Machine Learning at NetSuite.com/MONAHAN.
