Have you ever gone back to read, in context, those times Matthew says, "This was to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet..." and wondered? When Christ fulfilled "Out of Egypt, I called my Son," why is Hosea talking about the Exodus of the Israelites? And Isaiah 7:14, why is that in the middle of a narrative about Isaiah confronting unrighteous King Ahaz about a war brewing between two alliances? The sign that Ahaz will have is about a virgin who gives birth, that Ahaz won't even be around for? Was Matthew trying to pull a fast one on us, or are we missing something?

Mary and Joseph, if we can get past seeing them frozen in our manger scenes, they’re just two people, a young mom and dad, looking at a new baby. No doubt they see so much. Shepherds come in and later foreign dignitaries. Who are all these people and why are they coming to see their baby? That would certainly add to the big dreams and ideas. But then perhaps it was this young mom and dad who left the shepherds and wise men wondering when they introduced their baby. 'Here’s Jesus. He’s God.' Let’s read Matthew 1:22-23.
The announcement of Jesus’s birth was delivered to shepherds who lived on the fringe of society, in the fields, watching their sheep by night. If a king were born to the world, you would expect these shepherds to be the last ones to know about it. Yet, the heavenly angels told them that peace was coming to the earth for those on whom God’s favor rested. What a shocking message! God’s favor was even on the shepherds. They were being offered peace; and if it could be given to them, we can rest assured it is offered to us as well. Now that is good news for a world in turmoil!

I denne prædiken taler Silas Majgaard, i forbindelse med farsdag, om, at det at være far kan være svært og udfordrende. Ikke desto mindre er der stort behov for en faderolle, som presser på når ting er vigtige og skaber retning ind i sine børns liv.

I was not having a most wonderful time. We had just flown from Washington, D.C. to Dallas, and were about to embark on the second leg of our journey back home to San Jose. I had made the plane reservations over two months earlier and had planned the flights to get us home at 5:00 p.m., but American Airlines had changed our flight plans three times and we were now scheduled to get home at 8. They had also changed the seats I had originally reserved, which had me, my wife and my oldest daughter sitting in the same row together near the middle of the plane. Now Brenda and Stephanie were in one row and I was in another, and we were all in the very back of the plane -- right next to the jets, which are very loud. As we boarded the plane we noticed the power going on and off. Once we settled into our cramped seats on a completely packed flight, the pilot told us that the plane's GPS system had shorted out and they needed to do some work on it. I thought this was a bit troubling. I really like to be on planes with working navigation systems; that seems like an important piece of equipment.
