EP 11:10 Spend Less, Sell More: The Strategy for Turning Leads into Buyers

Millionaire Car Salesman Podcast

What if the hundreds of leads in your CRM aren't the opportunity you think they are? In this revealing episode of The Millionaire Car Salesman Podcast, Sean V. Bradley and LA Williams take a hard look at the reality of lead management in today's automotive industry. They unpack the costly truth behind what they call "dumb dealer math", where dealerships chase inflated numbers, waste money on poorly optimized lead sources, and mistake activity for true sales opportunities. "Your CRM is your central nervous system. It is not just a lead tool; it's your customer relationship management tool." - Sean V. Bradley Sean and LA dig deep into the difference between data that looks good and data that actually sells cars. They expose why metrics like SRPs and VDPs can be misleading, how poor CRM habits drain profits, and what really separates top-performing dealerships from the rest. "But as long as they (dealers) are making more money than they're spending, they think to themselves, I got other problems I got to deal with." - Sean V. Bradley But they don't stop there. The duo explores how smart dealers are diversifying their lead sources, leveraging proven partners like AutoWeb and CarsDirect, and building systems that turn leads into lifelong customers. If you've ever wondered why your lead volume isn't matching your results, or how to fix it, this episode will change the way you think about sales opportunities, metrics, and money in your dealership. It's not about getting more leads. It's about doing more with the ones you already have.   Key Takeaways: ✅ Dealers often struggle with too many leads without an effective team or strategy to manage them, resulting in missed opportunities. ✅ Focusing solely on website metrics like SRPs and VDPs without actual lead conversion can lead to wasted resources and efforts. ✅ Proper planning, preparation, and training are crucial to overcoming common pitfalls in lead management and maximizing sales success. ✅ Diversifying lead sources through third-party providers can help dealerships attain a balanced, risk-minimized approach to lead acquisition and management. ✅ A well-integrated CRM system is essential for understanding prospects, meeting their expectations, and creating valuable customer relationships.   About Sean V. Bradley Sean V. Bradley is a renowned expert in the automotive sales industry, currently serving as the President of Dealer Synergy. With over 27 years of experience, Sean is also a certified CSP and a best-selling author of "Win the Game of Googleopoly." Known for his innovative strategies in lead management and CRM, Sean has been a key influence in transforming car dealerships across the nation, making him a sought-after consultant and trainer in automotive sales. About LA Williams LA Williams is the Vice President at Dealer Synergy and the co-creator of the Millionaire Car Salesman Podcast. Known as the "Blind Master" for his unique perspective and insights, LA has a history of excellence in leveraging technology and training methodologies to increase sales and efficiencies in car dealerships.     Maximizing Dealership Success: Unleashing the Power of Leads, Marketing, and CRM Strategies In the fast-paced world of automotive sales, success hinges on mastering the art of lead management, astute marketing strategies, and the effective use of CRM technology. Sean V. Bradley, CSP, and his insightful conversations with LA Williams underscore the urgent need for dealerships to refine these aspects for consistent growth. This article distills the core themes from their engaging discussion, highlighting how dealerships can transform potential challenges into opportunities. Strategic Lead Management: Pinpointing and capitalizing on quality leads rather than succumbing to distraction. Diverse Marketing Approaches: Balancing investment between the dealership's website and external lead sources to mitigate risk. Advanced CRM Integration: Leveraging CRM systems to optimize prospect engagement and relationship development. Strategic Lead Management In today's automotive industry, the ability to effectively manage leads is crucial. Sean V. Bradley's discussion about dealerships being overwhelmed with leads hits home for many. He describes a common scenario: "You guys have so many leads, so many buyers, and not enough people." Overwhelming lead volume without sufficient staff can result in missed opportunities and wasted resources. Bradley's advice on categorizing leads into existing prospects and carryover prospects is significant. He provides a vivid illustration of a common oversight: "If you have 1,000 fresh leads a month, you're not going to start the first day of the month with zero." Instead, dealerships should consider the cumulative effect of carryover leads. Creating a structured approach to handling these varying lead types ensures that sales teams don't become inundated and fail to capitalize on genuine sales potentials. The importance of preparation and understanding the buying cycle underscores the critical need for dealerships to adopt refined lead management strategies. As Bradley emphasizes, "The average buying cycle for a new car is 90 days." Knowing this, dealerships must adjust their follow-up processes to align with the customer's timeline, thereby maximizing conversion chances. Diverse Marketing Approaches A key theme reinforced by Bradley and Williams is the fallacy of putting all marketing funds into a dealership's website. Bradley cautions against such myopic strategies: "It makes no sense to spend a little bit of money on the website but spend a fortune on ads or crap that drives traffic." Instead, he advocates for a diversified marketing approach akin to a mutual fund strategy, where investments are spread across multiple lead sources to minimize risk and maximize exposure. This diversified strategy includes the use of third-party lead providers like AutoWeb and Cars Direct, which offer an attractive cost-benefit ratio. Bradley highlights this by noting, "You should be able, if you're brand new or you're underperforming, to handle about 80 to 100 fresh Internet leads max." This targeted approach ensures that dealerships can maintain lead quality while benefiting from a sustainable and predictable lead flow. Integrating different marketing facets, such as search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and social media campaigns, allows dealerships to reach a broader audience while retaining flexibility. This blend of strategies not only improves lead quality but also aligns marketing spending with tangible results. Advanced CRM Integration for Optimal Customer Engagement The integration of CRM technology in lead management cannot be overstated. A recurring theme in Bradley's discussion is the imperative for dealerships to leverage CRM systems as a central nervous system. With compelling clarity, he describes the potential of CRMs to enhance customer relationships from "inception of the prospect." A robust CRM system is more than just a tool for managing leads. It offers invaluable insights into customer behavior and preferences, enabling personalized communication strategies. Bradley advises on the strategic setup of CRMs: "It needs to be optimized the right way." This involves structuring automated emails, video messages, and task reminders to ensure that no lead is left unengaged. The synergy between CRM systems, human resources, and AI is especially transformative. Bradley explains, "Your CRM, your human resources, and your AI should all be designed and architected interdependently." This triad approach not only enhances operational efficiency but also cultivates deep customer relationships, ultimately driving sales and fostering long-term loyalty. Dealerships that embrace this comprehensive CRM strategy are better positioned to navigate the complexities of customer interactions, ensuring that every engagement is as personalized and impactful as possible. To truly thrive in the modern automotive landscape, dealerships must embrace a multi-faceted approach that integrates strategic lead management, diversified marketing practices, and advanced CRM solutions. By doing so, they can transform challenges into opportunities, ensuring sustained growth and customer satisfaction. As Bradley insightfully advocates, a dealership's success is significantly enhanced when it masters these key areas, preparing itself to meet and exceed customer expectations consistently.     Resources + Our Proud Sponsors: ➼ The Millionaire Car Salesman Facebook Group: Join the #1 Mastermind Group in the Automotive Industry with over 29,000 members worldwide. We’ve been told that “good” parents never take their eyes off their kids — but what if that’s the very thing making childhood (and parenting) harder? In this fascinating chat, Dr Justin Coulson sits down with Lenore Skenazy — New York Times bestselling author of Free Range Kids and co-founder of Let Grow — whose viral act of letting her 9-year-old ride the NYC subway alone sparked a global movement. Fresh from her TED Talk, Why You Should Spend Less Time With Your Kids, Lenore dismantles the “terrible lie” that children can’t handle life on their own — and reveals why the best learning, confidence, and resilience often happen when parents step back. KEY POINTS The fear-driven parenting trap — and how media and culture made “unsupervised” a dirty word. The myth of “better safe than sorry” and why it’s hurting our kids. How independence builds competence (and true confidence). What happens in a child’s brain when they solve problems without adult help. The staggering truth about “stranger danger” and why it’s wildly overblown. How to make it normal again to just open the door and let kids play. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE “Independence leads to competence — and competence leads to confidence.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Lenore Skenazy’s TED Talk: Why You Should Spend Less Time With Your Kids Free Range Kids by Lenore Skenazy— New York Times bestseller Let Grow nonprofit: letgrow.org Range by David Epstein ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Open the door. Let your child play or walk somewhere safely on their own. Resist the rescue. When your child faces a small problem, pause before stepping in. Swap “be safe” for “trust yourself.” Let your language build courage, not fear. Talk about freedom. Ask your kids what independence means to them — and listen. This week on the Retirement Quick Tips Podcast, I'm talking about a study from the Allianz Center for the Future of Retirement that found something striking: 64% of Americans are more worried about running out of money in retirement than they are of death itself. Yesterday, I talked about the fear of running out of money in retirement, and why so many of us struggle to save enough. A big reason comes down to current expenses—too much house, too much debt, or just day-to-day costs that crowd out long-term saving. Retirement feels far away, until suddenly it's here—and then it's too late to catch up. So what's the solution? Especially if you're still at least 5 years or more from retirement, the answer is simple: spend less and save more. I know that sounds obvious, but many people don't realize where their money is actually going.

Sentera: https://sentera.com/Chandler Coop: https://www.chandlercoop.com/Today's episode is another installment in our Tech-Enabled Advisor series. The idea here is to better understand agtech through the lens of the BUYER and USER of that technology rather than just the entrepreneurs or investors behind it. I've received some super positive feedback about the return of this series. By talking to the buyers rather than the sellers of the tech, we got an unfiltered introduction to the technology and more importantly got to see HOW its used and the VALUE that it provides. To do this, I partner with a company and together we invite one of their customers onto the show. The catch is that they're not allowed to script these individuals or dictate what to say or edit it after it is recorded - it has to be real and unfiltered. So today's episode featuring Nick Einck of Chandler Coop is produced in partnership with Sentera. Sentera is a leading provider of remote imagery solutions. Their industry-leading cameras are compatible with most major drone platforms and enable farmers and crop scouts to efficiently capture high-resolution data. Their capabilities and FieldAgent software tools help farmers and agronomists assess plant-level health, identify stressors, and take action. Also their customized herbicide prescription, SMARTSCRIPT™ Weeds, can be delivered to sprayers with individual nozzle control. So drones equipped with Sentera technology fly over fields at high speeds and generate high-resolution images. The images are processed using proprietary deep learning algorithms to identify the exact location of specific weeds and generate a weed map. This map becomes a targeted prescription for how much product a farmer needs to load into their sprayer, saving money and minimizing waste. This past May, John Deere announced they were acquiring Sentera. So I'm very excited to partner with them for this episode, which is a fantastic deep dive into how innovative technology like this combined with something like See-and-Spray really changes the game. Some background on Nick before we dive in: Nick Einck is the Director of Agronomy at Chandler Co-op, a farmer-owned cooperative serving more than 900 customers and providing agronomic services across over 100,000 acres in southwest Minnesota. He began his career at Chandler as an intern and seed manager before spending nearly a decade with Monsanto and Bayer, gaining deep expertise in agronomy, product development, and grower engagement across the Midwest. Nick returned to Chandler in October 2024, bringing both retail and industry experience to help advance the co-op's agronomic strategy. Today, he leads a multi-location agronomy team focused on leveraging tech-enabled tools—like SmartScript™—to help growers make faster, more informed decisions and drive greater return from every acre.

Pain is a signal that something is wrong.Pain whispers, shouts, and screams, “Pay attention. Be careful. Something is wrong.”Jean Marzollo wrote a children's poem in 1948 that romanticized Christopher Columbus. It inspired a generation of children during the Captain Kangaroo years. Her proud poem begins,“In fourteen hundred ninety-twoColumbus sailed the ocean blue”Bill Bryson wrote an insightful summary of that famous voyage on page 205 of his book, “At Home.”“Columbus's real achievement was managing to cross the ocean successfully in both directions. Though an accomplished enough mariner, he was not terribly good at a great deal else, especially geography, the skill that would seem most vital in an explorer. It would be hard to name any figure in history who has achieved more lasting fame with less competence. He spent large parts of eight years bouncing around Caribbean islands and coastal South America convinced that he was in the heart of the Orient and that Japan and China were at the edge of every sunset. He never worked out that Cuba is an island and never once set foot on, or even suspected the existence of, the landmass to the north that everyone thinks he discovered: the United States.”We learn the meaning of pain as children, but we train ourselves to ignore it as adults. Why do we do that?I'm talking to you about the pain of your Google spend. Is there a chance that you should pay attention – and be careful – because something is wrong?Twenty years ago, Google inspired and electrified American business owners with their promise of “holding ad budgets accountable” by making advertising results, “identifiable, measurable, and scalable.”Business owners romanticized Google by shouting,“Hooray! Advertising will now become just another mathematical equation! Hooray! Hooray! To double my customer count, all I will have to do is double my ad budget!”I watched a friend of mine raise his monthly Google budget from $20,000/mo. to $70,000/mo because he was convinced that he would get three-and-a-half times as many leads. When it didn't work, I asked him to look closely at how many clicks he had purchased and compare that number to the total population of his trade area.Have you done that math?I watched another friend of mine elevate her Google budget until she was spending $90,000 a month. Her business was no longer profitable. I asked her to look at how many clicks she had purchased and compare that number to the total population of her trade area.Have you done that math?Have you ever raised your Google budget and had Google say to you, “We're sorry, but it is not possible to spend that much money on your LSA. There simply aren't enough people each day who are searching for what you sell.”Do the math. The past two decades have been the Captain Kangaroo years for millions of business owners.Bill Bryson wrote that Columbus was, “convinced that he was in the heart of the Orient and that Japan and China were at the edge of every sunset.”How many years have you been believing that your big payday from Google was at the edge of every sunset? Have you been saying,“All we need to do is tweak our plan a little. As soon as we figure out the Google algorithm, we're going to be rich.”A business owner from a major American city recently spent a day with me. He had been spending $100,000 on Google ads each month for the past few years because he was convinced that he could not afford mass media in his city. His budget could easily have made his name a household word by using television or radio. I know the town well. I have had clients there for many years. His budget would reach more than 2 million...
