Step into a cave with Jaxson Austin, an intern from Collegians for Christ, as he retells a turning moment from Psalm 57. Hunted, exiled, and marked for death, David should be broken — yet he chooses a fixed heart. Through vivid storytelling, Jaxson paints the fear, the solitude, and the bold decision to praise in the darkest hour. This episode follows a young teacher finding his voice: waking up when despair tempts him to hide, forcing praise where sorrow lives, and putting God back in His rightful place. It's a short, stirring narrative that turns ancient history into a practical call to get up, sing, and trust — even when life feels like a cave.
Why does it seem like so many people are searching for happiness but struggling to find joy?In Part 2 of the Life on the Vine series, Dr. Gregg Marutzky explores joy as a fruit of the Spirit and why it differs from the temporary happiness our culture often pursues. Drawing from Galatians 5 and John 15, this message examines how gratitude, contentment, meaningful relationships, and serving others contribute to lasting joy, while anxiety, comparison, consumerism, and constant dissatisfaction slowly erode it.Along the way, Gregg shares personal stories, practical insights, and biblical wisdom on cultivating a life marked by joy rather than merely chasing moments of happiness.Whether you're navigating a difficult season or simply wondering why fulfillment can feel so elusive, this message offers a refreshing perspective on where lasting joy is found.Chapters00:00 Welcome and Series Intro04:17 Joy Quotes and Theme Verse08:38 Heartfelt Faith and Joy10:17 Choosing Joy and Reframing11:41 What Joy Really Means14:08 Joy in Family and Milestones19:04 Gratitude and True Joy21:21 Parable of the Talents27:23 Abide in the Vine29:48 Obstacles to Joy Today33:53 Practices That Cultivate Joy36:51 Closing and Lord's SupperClick here to donate to the programClick here for more sermonsOC Church of Christ
May I… The Comfort of Joy and the Practical Application of May I Concepts Presented by the Sunday Edition Family of Podcasts in partnership with Bold Blind Beauty Special Guest: Gabriel Lopez Kafati In this powerful and deeply reflective final installment of the May I conversation series, the Sunday Edition Family of Podcasts and Bold Blind Beauty bring together the emotional and practical lessons explored throughout the series and ask one final question: How do we actually carry these ideas into everyday life? Over the course of this conversation series, we have explored mindfulness, emotional awareness, confidence, connection, healing, movement, survival, identity, and self trust. This concluding discussion focuses on how we continue applying those lessons in practical, sustainable, and emotionally healthy ways. The first half of the conversation centers around harnessing joy. Not performative joy. Not forced positivity. Real joy. The small moments that ground us, restore us, nourish us, and help us continue forward even during overwhelming seasons of life. Special guest Gabriel Lopez Kafati leads this portion of the discussion with reflections on sustainable joy, emotional grounding, and allowing ourselves moments of peace without guilt. The second half of the the conversation turns toward practical emotional application. Anthony Corona introduces the concept of the emotional internal inventory while Steph of Bold Blind Beauty explores the idea of the internal white cane. Together, the panel examines how intuition, emotional awareness, boundaries, gut feelings, tension, peace, exhaustion, excitement, and self trust all serve as navigation tools within our emotional environments just as a white cane helps navigate physical spaces. Topics explored throughout the conversation include: Harnessing joy during difficult times Allowing ourselves peace without guilt Balancing advocacy, caregiving, and emotional survival Holding joy and pain simultaneously Emotional awareness and pattern recognition The emotional internal inventory The internal white cane Boundaries and emotional self trust Recognizing intuition versus anxiety Practical emotional check ins Rest, healing, and sustainable self care The conversation closes with a moving fill in the blank reflection exercise centered around the recurring phrase: May I… Listeners are encouraged to revisit all installments of the May I series through the Sunday Edition Family of Podcasts and Bold Blind Beauty and continue these conversations within their own communities, friendships, workplaces, and personal lives. She grew up in exile across five African countries, built one of the most decorated marketing careers in South Africa, and somewhere along the way decided she was going to live life at full speed. Khensani Nobanda has been to 87 countries, stood in the Monza pits while Red Bull engineers played reggae, lost her passport in Cappadocia and somehow ended up on a yacht on the Bosphorus, and turned 40 on Halong Bay surrounded by 40 of the people she loves most. But the thing that made me want to have this conversation was not her CV. It was her energy. This episode is about Formula 1, the 50 Before 50 list, Istanbul, travel philosophy, work life integration, choosing joy now, and refusing to wait for life to begin. Youtube

What does it mean to live a meaningful life—and how do we know what truly matters? In this episode of About Art, Heidi Zuckerman is joined by artist Hank Willis Thomas and curator Rujeko Hockley for a deeply personal and expansive conversation about attention, time, and the choices that shape a life.Beginning from a place of reflection—on family, career, illness, and change—they explore how priorities shift over time, what it means to be present, and how we learn to identify what is essential. The conversation moves fluidly between the personal and the universal: parenting, partnership, creative work, and the quiet but profound question of how we want to live.Hank speaks candidly about his recent experience with cancer and how it reshaped his thinking, while Rujeko reflects on turning 40, motherhood, and the evolving balance between ambition and fulfillment. At its core, this is a conversation about perspective—about joy, gratitude, and the possibility of choosing how we move through the world. In this episode, they explore:how life events reshape priorities and perspectivethe relationship between attention and meaningparenting, partnership, and evolving identityart as a reflection of how we livewhy joy may be the most essential form of privilege

Jay sits down with Bridget Bahl, entrepreneur and founder of the fashion brand The Bar, who has built a powerful community through her honesty about life, faith, and relationships. What begins as a conversation about success and ambition evolves into something far more personal, a journey through fear, uncertainty, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going when life feels out of your control. Bridget shares what it looks like to move from constantly striving for more to being forced to slow down, reflect, and rediscover what truly matters, not in theory, but in real time. Jay and Bridget open up about the emotional layers we rarely talk about, the grief that can exist alongside gratitude, the pressure to stay strong, and the reality that healing is not always linear. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Bridget began sharing her journey with honesty and resilience, using her platform to bring awareness, hope, and purpose to others. Her story reflects something deeply familiar, that we often do not realize how much we take for granted until life demands our full attention. Through her vulnerability, Bridget reminds us that even in the hardest moments, meaning can still be found in the people who show up, the perspective we gain, and the small shifts that change how we live each day. In this episode, you'll learn: How to Stay Strong in Uncertainty How to Let Go of Control How to Support Someone Through Difficult Times How to Listen to Your Body Early How to Hold Grief and Gratitude At the Same Time How to Keep Faith in Life’s Hardest Moments Whatever season you’re in right now, whether life feels overwhelming, uncertain, or just not how you imagined, this is your reminder that you’re stronger than you think. Even in the moments that feel heavy or unclear, there is still meaning being formed and growth happening beneath the surface. Some conversations just leave you smiling the whole way through, and this was definitely one of them.In this week's episode I'm joined by the wonderful Ami Yeasmin @ami_bisbrooke_artisans. If you already follow Ami online, you'll know exactly what I mean when I say she brings so much joy into the world. Her energy is infectious. But behind that joy is a story of resilience, heartbreak, healing and learning to truly live in the present moment. Before COVID, Ami and her husband were running a thriving sourdough bakery together after leaving their previous careers. Life was busy, exciting and growing quickly. But in a short space of time everything changed. Her marriage broke down, and soon after Ami was diagnosed with cancer. What followed was one of the most difficult periods of her life. But it also became the beginning of something new.During her recovery, Ami began thinking deeply about joy. Not the big, once in a lifetime kind of happiness we're often told to chase, but the small everyday moments that remind us we're alive. The kind of joy we can choose, even when life feels messy or uncertain. One symbol that carried her through that time was a pair of red boots she promised herself she would wear when she was strong enough again. Those red boots eventually led to something unexpected… dancing. What started as a spontaneous moment dancing in public after cancer treatment has become Ami's way of spreading joy and reminding people that it's never too late to express yourself, take up space and live fully in the moment. This conversation is honest, uplifting and full of beautiful reminders about self-acceptance, forgiveness and learning to shine as you are.Ami's journey from teacher to running a successful sourdough bakery• The impact COVID had on their lives and relationship• Navigating separation later in life• Receiving a cancer diagnosis and the emotional toll of treatment• Letting go of people pleasing and learning true self-acceptance• Why Ami believes joy is something we can choose every day• The story behind her red boots• How dancing in public became a powerful act of healing• Why shining as yourself gives others permission to do the same“When you shine from the source of yourself, you give other people permission to shine too.”If you enjoy this episode, please do share it with someone who might need a little reminder that joy can still be found, even in the most unexpected places.Keep being fabulousRachel x
Today on the podcast I am joined by the legendary Stuart Trevor - founder of AllSaints. And now his latest project Stuart Trevor.I wanted to speak to Stuart because this podcast is about living before you run out of hours - and Stuart embodies this more than most. He started All Saints in the 90s and built it into a cult brand - dressing rockstars like Kings of Leon, The Who, Depeche Mode, Placebo and Destinys Child and Gwen Stefani - at its peak it had over 200 stores worldwide across 25 countries, with hundreds of millions of revenue. But he went on to sell it. Stuart had previously been scouted by two of the biggest fashion brands at the time - Paul Smith and Reiss - and ended up joining Reiss and working under David Reiss' tutelage for a while until he plucked the courage up to start his own brand. The shop has changed a lot now, it's a world away from the All Saints that Trevor poured his love and soul into - so this is a story of building what should exist, letting go, and moving on to a new passion in your next chapter. It's also a story of what happens when you seek to optimise JOY and FUN and not just productivity and efficiency. Much needed in today's world. Hosted on Acast. This week, I had the absolute honor of sitting down with Pam Minick, cowgirl, competitor, broadcaster, history-maker, and one of the most respected women in the Western industry. But more than any title she has held, this conversation is about something deeper. It's about joy. Pam shares her journey from growing up riding horses in Las Vegas to becoming Miss Rodeo America and breaking barrier after barrier as one of the first women to hold major broadcasting roles in rodeo. What stood out most to me was not the accolades, but her mindset. After a recent leukemia diagnosis and months of treatment, Pam made a daily decision to choose joy. That phrase became more than words. It became her anchor, her perspective, and even the name of a racehorse inspired by her resilience. We talk about finding work you love, saying yes before you know how you will figure it out, cheering for the next generation, and why joy is not accidental. It is intentional. This episode is a reminder that no matter what season you are in, you still get to choose how you show up, and the word “can't” shouldn't be used. I'm so excited to throw it back to one of my favorite and most encouraging episodes with my friend Nicole Zasowski — a Marriage & Family Therapist and the author of What If It's Wonderful?, From Lost to Found, and Daring Joy.In this conversation, we talk about why joy can feel so vulnerable, why our minds often jump to worst-case scenarios, and how to find the courage to fully receive the good in our lives instead of bracing for what might go wrong. So many of us feel safer preparing for disappointment than letting ourselves experience joy — but that habit quietly steals the very moments we're longing for. What is the role of an artist during turbulent times? When the world feels loud, chaotic, and overwhelming, creating art—or even choosing joy—can feel self-indulgent or irresponsible. But history shows the opposite. Art is often the first thing oppressive systems try to erase, because it's a powerful form of communication, imagination, and inner freedom. In this episode, I reflect on why joy itself is a quiet but meaningful form of resistance, how awareness doesn't have to mean constant outrage, and why real activism is often unglamorous, collective, and rooted in everyday kindness. Drawing on ideas from Viktor Frankl and personal experience as a filmmaker and creator, this is a reminder that making art—whether professionally or as a hobby—is not wasted time.If creating gives you something, that alone is enough.
Sadie welcomes Lulu Gribbin, her mom Ann Blair, and Lulu's twin sister Ellie into the studio to share the story of the day that changed Lulu's life forever—a shark attack that could have ended it all. Lulu opens up about that terrifying moment and how, even in the midst of shock and tragedy, she saw God working in her life. Losing two-thirds of her blood on the beach, the doctors said she shouldn't be here. Yet today, Lulu chooses joy, points people to God, and inspires others with her incredible resilience. Since the attack in 2024, she's returned to the very beach where it happened—and the first time she got back on her surfboard, a funny joke reminded her why sometimes laughter truly is the best medicine. What if joy isn't something you chase — but something you practice? In this deeply honest and energizing conversation, Christa “Cricket” King sits down with Jacques Martiquet, the self-described Party Scientist, to explore what it really means to choose joy through sobriety, radical vulnerability, and conscious connection.Together, they unpack how alcohol and other cultural “shortcuts” can quietly block authentic joy, and Jacques introduces his powerful framework of the 5 S's — the common ways we're taught to outsource happiness: substances, sugar & salt, screens, stuff, and sites. While these offer temporary relief, they often keep us disconnected from the deeper, embodied joy we're actually craving. This episode dives into why vulnerability is a skill (not a personality trait), how boundaries protect joy, and how social intelligence, movement, presence, and honest emotional processing create real, sustainable aliveness. You'll hear reflections on sober joy, grief as a teacher, reframing hardship into fuel, and the courage it takes to be fully seen — especially when your light makes others uncomfortable. You'll explore:Choosing sobriety as a gateway to clarity, connection, and joyThe 5 S's and how they quietly replace true fulfillmentWhy joy is not toxic positivity, but a trainable, embodied practiceRadical vulnerability, grief, and the gifts hidden inside lossBuilding relationships that support growth, reciprocity, and alivenessWhy human connection may be the most underrated “antidepressant” we haveThis conversation is for anyone who feels called to live more awake, authentic, and joy-forward — without numbing, bypassing, or shrinking to fit old norms.✨ Joy is available. Whitney shares how reframing niching as “does this sound fun?” has shifted how she approaches client work. Brianna reflects on scarcity mindset, people pleasing, and the importance of protecting her time and energy. They unpack what it looks like to curate your book of business intentionally instead of reacting from habit or fear. Tune in for a reminder that building a profitable travel business does not have to mean sacrificing joy, boundaries, or yourself in the process.

Comedian, entrepreneur, and cultural favorite KevOnStage sits down with hosts Deborah Joy Winans Williams and MAJOR. for a wildly funny and surprisingly heartfelt holiday conversation on Choosing Joy for the Holidays. From broke-era Christmases to the infamous Batman-without-the-Batman gift, Kev shares stories that shaped his childhood — and why those moments still make him laugh today. Kev opens up about what the holidays were like growing up with very little, including years when presents were missing, sweaters were the wrong size, and his grandmother still made it all feel meaningful. He reflects on how becoming a father shifted everything, including why he eventually stopped giving his kids mountains of gifts and instead started taking annual Christmas trips around the world — this year, all the way to Japan. As a comedian who happens to be a Christian (and not the other way around), Kev breaks down how he navigates faith, comedy, and community without letting labels box him in. He shares outrageous stories about church life, roasting from the pews, and learning not to fear disappointing people — because, as he says, “I disappoint myself every day.” The episode closes with a rapid-fire holiday game featuring eggnog, NBA basketball vs. Christmas service, the best version of “This Christmas,” and which family member is absolutely spiking the eggnog. A hysterical, warm, relatable, culturally rich episode — everything Holiday AF was built for.Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/choosing-joy/id1826833726Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thechoosingjoypodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@choosingjoythepodcastGo Premium: https://www.theblackguywhotips.com/premium/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Forgiveness sounds simple… until life asks you to practice it with real people and real pain. In this heartfelt solo episode of Choosing Joy, Deborah Joy Winans Williams opens up about one of the most difficult—and most freeing—parts of her own journey: learning how to forgive others, forgive herself, and release the resentment that keeps us bound. Deborah shares the story of her parents’ divorce, how childhood wounds shaped her understanding of forgiveness, and the moment her grandmother gave her a piece of wisdom that changed her life forever. She talks about shame, grace, reconciliation, and why forgiveness isn’t a one-time event, but a process that comes in waves. With honesty and compassion, Deborah reminds us that forgiveness is not about excusing someone else’s behavior—it's about choosing freedom, healing, and joy for your own life. If you’re holding onto hurt, wrestling with disappointment, or trying to heal old family pain, this episode will meet you right where you are.

Have you ever noticed how easily motherhood can slide into a rhythm powered by guilt instead of joy? Many moms spend their days giving endlessly, rarely pausing to ask for what they need. In this episode, Whitney sits down with Heather Chauvin, author of Dying to Be a Good Mother, for a conversation about rewriting the rules of what it means to be a good mom. Chauvin shares how a stage-four cancer diagnosis forced her to listen to her own inner voice, a decisive moment that shifted everything. She explains why honoring personal needs isn't selfish, it's connective, and how it can deepen relationships with our children, work, and ourselves. Chauvin also introduces the way she structures her days through her Energetic Time Management method, a system that helps moms build their schedules around the feelings they want to cultivate, not the obligations they're trying to survive. She breaks down how energy, not hours, should lead the calendar, and walks through her signature tool: Energetic Time Management, a practical framework for planning life in alignment, reducing mental load, and reclaiming self-connection without sacrificing impact. Tune in now to learn how to bring more joy into motherhood without apology. For many women, this approach marks the turning point between burnout and brightness, proving that a well-resourced woman contributes differently, loves differently, and leads differently. Here's what you can look forward to in this episode: The pressure and unrealistic expectations of mothers to self-sacrifice Considering your needs as an act of rebellion Removing guilt and pressure and feeling more alive Energetic Time Management - Figure out how you want to feel and allocate that time to how you want to feel Seeing challenges in parenting as an opportunity for growth and a deeper connection Reflection question to ponder: How would you parent or live if you didn't care what other people thought? When the world feels heavy, choosing joy can sound naïve. We think it's the most practical move you can make. In this heartfelt episode, we share how a brutal “year of authenticity” led to a bold decision to claim a “year of joy,” and why that choice reshaped daily life. You'll hear a reading from Small Pearl's Big Wisdom titled We Will Have Joy, then we unpack how gratitude and delight fade without tending, and how to bring them back through simple, repeatable practices. We explore joy as medicine for the soul: the counterweight that steadies your nervous system and expands your perspective during hard seasons. From dance rehearsals that dissolve stress in minutes to tiny present-moment miracles like a dog napping belly-up, we show how nothing outside needs to change for your inner state to shift. Joy doesn't erase facts; it equips you to meet them with more compassion, creativity, and clarity. You'll learn how to set morning intentions, close your day with a quick “what was joyful” check, and use movement, nature, and mindful naming to anchor goodness in real time. This conversation is for anyone who feels stretched thin yet wants a grounded way back to aliveness. We make the case that joy is not a reward for finishing the hard work; it's the fuel that makes the hard work possible. Walk away with practical tools to cultivate joy now, not “someday,” and a gentle nudge to claim even a few drops on the toughest days.
