I am an advocate for military service for young men and women. I wish that our military could persuade more young people to volunteer for at least two years of military service because the benefits of focus and discipline cannot be ignored. Matthew 24:36-44 is a passage that calls for the church to remain alert as if one is to wait for someone important to come home. It is a call by our LORD to be ever diligent, alert, and disciplined in the faith longing for and open to our LORD’s glorious second coming to judge the nations and to gather his elect to himself. Jesus' Olivet Discourse with his disciples is all about HIS parousia. His second coming will be grand indeed, but Jesus drives home the point that despite no one knowing when this will be, not even the Son of God who comes. Despite the details given in Matthew 24 [and the parallel passages of Mark 13:32-36 & Luke 21:29-33] Jesus' intent is clear in that he expects his disciples, HIS church, to be always awake 21:29-33] Jesus' intent is clear in that he expects his disciples, HIS church, to be always awake to the signs and imminent coming of our LORD again. He describes the details of the parousia with prophetic language that demands a measure of faith from the limited mind of the disciple. God the Father alone knows. He is omniscient. He is the original and primary knower of all things, especially of the day and time of the great Day of the Lord. Let's dig into Matthew 24:36-44 together
For Advent '22 our theme is "Unexpected Christmas". Through the series we'll be looking at the unexpected elements of the Christmas Story and exploring how it helps us face the unexpected through trusting Christ. In this episode, Pastor Chris Kipp leads off the series with a teaching entitled "Expect The Unexpected" from Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 24:36-44. Advent 1 : How to be agile Matthew 24: 36-44 Rev Keith Morrison

Pastor David continues in the prophesy update as we keep working our way through the book of Matthew. In this message, Pastor David compares our time to the "days of Noah" that we see in our text. What lessons can we learn from this parabolic form of teaching? The big takeaway for the day is: You protect your stuff, you protect your life, but do you protect your eternity?

The problem of personal entropy Is this true for you? Matthew 24: 36 - 44 1. What does Jesus mean when he says “stay awake” and “be ready”? Cultivate an intentional LIFESTYLE. 2. Is Jesus calling you to live in a constant state of fear? We do not do good to be SAVED, we are SAVED to do good. So what now? First Sunday of Advent
Are You Ready? Matthew 24: 36-44 Keith Morrison
On this First Sunday of Advent, we look to both the celebration of the birth of Christ and to the coming fullness of the Kingdom of God. We find hope based upon the faithfulness of God and see our role in active waiting as using our gifts to bring forth the Kingdom in the here and now.

Hope is not far away Advent
Not a matter of If
Over the next 23 days we are going to focus on the Christ of Christmas rather than the commercialization of Christmas. To do this we will light one advent candle each week along with a brief explanation of the symbolism involved. This week we will light our first candle of hope and expectation. That hope was realized over 2000 years ago in a manger…in a stable…in Bethlehem. Let’s go back in time over the next 4 weeks and take a walk through the stable. There are other things in that stable other than those we normally see at a manger scene. So as we journey through the stable in anticipation of the birth of Christ, what do you experience as you walk into the stable?

Rev. Tracey Thomas incorporates the Apostles' Creed into a lesson about the advent season and about how its significance in our lives is derived in the entire story of Christ (virgin birth, sinless life, crucifixion, burial, ascension), not just His birth.
