He quoted from those chapters as literal history. Thus, we can read the Genesis text as teaching literal days of creation of our earth and universe only thousands of years ago, based on the genealogies, and that God created in a specific order that refutes the secular evolutionary "story" of life's origins. The flood was global, covering all the mountains everywhere under the whole heavens, destroying and reshaping the earth so that all land-dwelling animals and men perished, except for those on the ark. These early chapters of Genesis are also the foundation for so many vital doctrines, not least being the origin of sin and death that necessitated the sacrificial death of the promised Savior, the gospel itself. Send us a text"All things... shall work together for your good."          For the Saints in the 1830s, Independence, Missouri, was literally the promised land. It was “the center place” of Zion (see Doctrine and Covenants 57:3)—the city of God on earth—which they were making great sacrifices to build. To them, the gathering of Saints there was an exciting and glorious prelude to the Second Coming. But their neighbors in the area saw things differently. They took issue with the claim that God had given the land to the Saints, and they were uncomfortable with the political, economic, and social consequences of so many people from an unfamiliar religion moving into the area so quickly. Soon concern turned into threats, and threats turned into persecution and violence. In July 1833, the Church's printing office was destroyed, and in November the Saints were forced to abandon their homes in Jackson County, Missouri.          Joseph Smith was over 800 miles away in Kirtland, and this news took weeks to reach him. But the Lord knew what was happening, and He revealed to His Prophet principles of peace and encouragement that would comfort the Saints—principles that can also help us when we face persecution, when our righteous desires go unfulfilled, or when we need a reminder that our daily afflictions will eventually, somehow, “work together for [our] good” (Doctrine and Covenants 98:3).See Saints, 1:171–93; “Waiting for the Word of the Lord,” Revelations in Context, 196–201.Support the show... Become a "Patron Saint"!!

The Christian apocalyptic tradition is explored, focusing on the prophecies and warnings of the Gospels and the Book of Revelation. These texts contain a dramatic narrative of cataclysmic events: the end days, the Second Coming, the Rapture, the chosen few, the final judgment, Armageddon, the defeat of Satan, and the reign of Christ's kingdom. That may sound like a strange question to us preterists, but remember the majority of the Church is still waiting for the Lord's Second Coming. So, how would most Christians answer that question? Are the time statements flexible? Were his promises to return conditional?

Are you living like Jesus could return today, or have you settled into thinking it might never happen?In this message from Revelation 22, we explore what it means that Jesus promises three times "I am coming quickly." This isn't just theological doctrine—it's meant to shape how we live right now. Whether the thought of Jesus' return brings you comfort, concern, or skepticism, Scripture calls us to live with urgent anticipation.The early church needed this reminder when facing compromise and persecution. We need it today when we're tempted to give up hope or get too comfortable with the status quo. Jesus isn't coming back as a baby in a manger. He's returning as the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, bringing both reward and judgment.

All through the Bible, we read about 2 brides, one Gentile and one Jewish. A bride for the Father, Jewish, and a bride for the Son, Gentile. We see such an example in the book of Esther with Vashti and Esther. We see it in the marriages of both Leah and Rachel to Jacob. Both these brides reach their ultimate fulfillment with Christians in the Body of Christ at the Rapture, and Jews in the nation of Israel at the Second Coming. In 2 Peter 1:16-18, the apostle defends Christ's return through personal eyewitness testimony and Old Testament prophetic revelation. Therefore, when false teachers claimed Christ's return was merely "cleverly devised myths," Peter responded as eyewitnesses to majesty who personally witnessed the divine glory accompanying His second coming. Furthermore, this eyewitness account encourages believers that they will share Christ's glory while warning unbelievers of coming judgment.
