Allen, VP of government affairs at Mitchell International specializing in workman's comp issues, estimates there may be as many as 9 million people in the U.S,. workplace with opioid problems. Allen relates how states are battling the opioid epidemic. While awareness is growing, so are the number of opioid overdose deaths in the country, said Allen. According to government estimates, 70,000 people died in the U.S. as a result of drug overdoes in 2017.
