There are several words-of-year for 2025: Oxford has "rage bait" after last year's "brain rot." Webster has "slop." Dictionary.com has "67," which is a diverse meme. This year has continued the 2024 trend of a planet spinning much faster than has been recorded before, triggering debates about removing a second from the clock, i.e., the negative leap second. 2025 also brought us, as evidenced by the online slop of 67, which results in perpetual rage bait and a variety of increasingly dumber conspiracies. So-called activist Jake Lang marched into Dearborn, Michigan, in November waving bacon at Qurans, lighting the same on fire, and trying to provoke Muslim residents with chants of “Christ is King” and calls on City Hall to remove all Muslims from the community, and in fact the country. Two major problems exist here: one, if this treatment of Islam were to override the First Amendment, how long do you think it will be before the same war comes for Christianity – has it not already? Two, are you so sure that the rhetoric of Lang even makes sense? A glance at the Quran will demonstrate that it actually teaches peace, not to commit suicide, forbids usury strongly, and the additional sayings of Muhammed call for followers to never kill women or children. Most of the accusations Lang makes against Islam are actually projections of accusations made against Jews. As the propaganda has failed to secure ongoing American support for Israel from all parties, it has turned to a Christian base that is willing to sell its birthright for a couple Bible verses. Today's Headlines: Ukraine's peace talks are… somehow happening. Zelensky has mostly accepted Russia's 28-point plan, with “minor” tweaks, and might swing by the U.S. to finalize it. Meanwhile, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met Russia's delegation in Abu Dhabi, where Sergey Lavrov warned they won't accept changes that differ from whatever secret “understanding” Trump and Putin supposedly made in Alaska. Over in Venezuela, Trump labeled President Nicolás Maduro the head of a terrorist organization while also planning to call him. The administration insists they're not plotting to “shoot or snatch” him but will continue blowing up drug-running boats.In Brazil, Bolsonaro tried to melt off his ankle monitor with a soldering iron and was re-arrested for attempted escape — yet Trump claims he talked to him “last night” and expects to meet him soon. In other news, newly uncovered documents show NYC knew how toxic the air around Ground Zero was and still let thousands of first responders breathe it in. Almost 10,000 have died from related illnesses. Truly shocking behavior from Rudy Giuliani's New York (said no one). Healthcare premiums are spiking nationwide, and Trump was planning to announce a two-year extension of Obamacare subsidies — until Speaker Mike Johnson told him House Republicans weren't on board. Sean Mullin is an award-winning filmmaker. He has been a writer, director and/or producer on seven films that have received theatrical releases. His critically-acclaimed feature film debut as a writer/director – Amira & Sam – won the top prize at numerous festivals and was distributed theatrically by Drafthouse Films in 2015. His documentary about baseball legend, Yogi Berra – It Ain't Over – received a theatrical release by Sony Pictures Classics in 2023. The Sun unleashed an absolutely massive G4 geomagnetic solar storm that hit the planet yesterday. It was the most powerful solar flare that we have seen in 2025.
