In this episode of Zen Commuter, I share reflections inspired by a recent Tricycle article on connecting with the root of our being. Lately, I've been reminded that the places, roles, and things we associate with "home" are only temporary expressions of something much deeper. The real root isn't somewhere outside of us—it's the quiet, steady presence that's always been there, beneath our thoughts, beneath our memories, beneath even our sense of identity. When we take time to pause and reconnect with that part of ourselves, there's a profound sense of peace and belonging that doesn't depend on circumstances. Join me as I explore what it means to come home—not to a place, but to the truest part of who we are. THANKS FOR LISTENING! Your weekly guide to the music biz and how it all works. Become a Superfan of the podcast for free – and enjoy a weekly Superfan Lock-in section! This week... Steve and Stu dig into the charts – and take a look at a load of data that's been released about singles, albums and streams:Do you know Japanese rock band Mrs Green Apple? They were the 13th biggest artist in the world last year. (Bigger than Eminem, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber)The Fleetwood Mac chart syndrome: why are there so many old bands in the albums chart? And why are there so few bands in the Top 30 singles?Sam Fender and Olivia Dean are number one – but why has it taken 35 weeks after its release to reach the top spot? And in non-chart news: it's been dragging on for a while… but now EU regulators have approved Universal's deal to buy independent music firm Downtown Music. So what happens next? And why are so many people still so angry?Another children's music superstar for Stu and Steve to discuss: behold, it's The Wiggles! How to get tickets into the hands of fans, not touts,Streaming full songs inside of TikTok (kind of...).And in the special post-show lock-in section just for our Patreon Superfans, Steve and Stu prop themselves at the bar to discuss this week's bonus material:Gold discs: how much are they worth - and why does Steve have more of them than he knows what to do with? (and who did he give his Stone Roses gold disc to?)Why is Zara Larsson battling a Wikipedia editor about her Wikipedia photo?(And what vital – and incorrect – info did Steve wrestle with Wikipedia over?)The live music landscape is changing fast: artists are now playing sold-out multi-night residencies at big venues – so is there growing appetite for arena gigs? You can use AI powered apps to make your own remixes – but do you even want to?===================================As ever, we welcome your feedback, emails and – in particular – any questions you might have about how the music biz works!Email us: thepriceofmusicpodcast@gmail.comSee you next week!Steve and Stuart======TPOM online: http://tpom.uk/Support The Price of Music on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/ThePriceofMusicFollow Steve on X - @steve_lamacqFollow Stuart on X - @stuartdredgeFollow The Price of Music on X - @PriceofMusicpodFor sponsorship opportunities, please email - joe@musically.com

"The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes! (aka a "GLT with me CG!")
Send a textA courageous journey, a chance meeting and a single ring on the bell at the gilded gates of his future, changed everything for Kevin Tewis and launched him into being! And nothing has stopped him ever since! At 15, a disastrous careers interview informed Kevin that he simply wasn't good enough and a life of stacking biscuits as opposed to a glorious creative career lay ahead. To quote Churchill Insurance's iconic dog Winston that Kevin subsequently went on to create: "Oh No-No-No-No-No!" A day later Kevin found himself at the gates of 5 Star, his very favourite band. And having taken his destiny into his own hands, there at the gates, his future began. That mix of nerve and pitch-perfect timing became a blueprint that Kevin still follows: Create work with staying power, not sugar highs. In this extraordinary episode we explore how a shy Superfan became a Photographer, a Music Producer, a Brand Builder, a Creativity Legend and the mind behind one of Britain's most loved advertising icons, Churchill's nodding bulldog Winston: "Oh Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes!"We dig into the craft. Kevin's teenage habit of hand-charting Top 40 hits helped him decode what makes a song endure across formats and decades. That data-meets-feel approach fuelled records designed to live on Heart and Smooth long after the charts. It also birthed a branding masterstroke: “Winston,” a bulldog that turned insurance into affection by blending British heritage with warmth and simple, memorable language. You'll hear how he later applied the same logic in government, naming ANTENNA for Number 10's secure comms by building inward and outward meaning straight into the word.Mentors loom large in Kevin's story. From Five Star's kindness to Eddie Gordon's industry schooling, he shows how generosity scales careers—and why he now mentors young creators, sits on a school trust, and argues for business literacy in classrooms. We talk ad quality, radio's surprising strength, Simon Cowell's new boy band era, and why AI is best treated like Grammarly: a sharp helper, not a stand-in for empathy, timing, and taste. Creativity remains stubbornly human because what moves us keeps shifting. The most luminous turn arrives with fatherhood. Kevin shares the joy and honesty of building a family through surrogacy and egg donation, keeping both women an active part of his children's lives. It's a lesson in dignity, clarity, and the kind of legacy that truly lasts. Anchored by a favourite line from Kipling's If—keep your head when others lose theirs—this conversation is a guide for anyone who wants to make things people will still love in ten, twenty, thirty years.Enjoy the story, share it with a friend who needs a nudge of courage, and if it resonates, subscribe and leave a review so more listeners can find these conversations. Esteemed motorsport journalist, historian, author, podcaster, girl's girl, shit poster, and cat mom Elizabeth Blackstock swings by the pod, and this episode easily could have been 3 hours long, but we all have ADHD by now (right??) so we reeeeally tried to reel it in. We talked about getting kimchi fries from Danny Ric, learning to read at 2, doing gin shots from a mop bucket, how to separate being a fan from a career lady, being Tumblr girlies, why you should explore series beyond F1, stumbling upon motorsport fans in the wild, experiencing Formula 1 before and after the Drive to Survive boom, watching races with crusty old white guys, people stealing content, being trash talked to your face, cosplaying as international media, seeing the humanity in drivers, being on the Cadillac hype train and so much more. We're already plotting her next appearance, so you definitely won't want to miss this one!PS head to the GJWF1 YouTube page for exclusive AFTER THE CUT content from this episode! You can find more from Elizabeth below:Deadly Passions, Terrible JoysRacing with Rich EnergyTikTokInstagramBluesky Substack@GirlsJustWanna_F1 on Insta@GirlsJustWannaF1 on TikTok@GirlsWannaF1Pod on TwitterGirlsJustWannaF1@gmail.comAll the LinksThanks for listening!

Your weekly guide to the music biz and how it all works: don't forget - you can become a Superfan of the podcast for free – and access an extra 20 mins of show each week! This week, it's time for another interview with one of the people who make it all happen. Steve speaks to Niamh Byrne, who managed Blur, Elastica, and Turin Brakes, before founding Eleven management, which works with artists like Damon Albarn and Gorillaz – and she's also the chair of the Music Managers Forum, the global organisation that represents music managers.So... she is a great person to ask: what's it like being a manager today – and how is the role changing?(As ever, our Patreon Superfans get a bit extra - you'll hear the full unedited interview, including Niamh's thoughts on AI and the future of management.)Niamh explains to Steve how:Great management is built on trust and vision — artists need operational backing while they create, and managers must hold the long-term destination and strategy. The manager role has expanded significantly — managers now carry much of the execution workload that labels historically handled. How labels are still important — even though managers can now replicate many label functions, access to capital keeps traditional deals relevant.Manager-led campaigns are increasingly viable — teams can now run marketing, digital, data and fan strategy directly (as with upcoming Gorillaz releases).Managers are undervalued — despite delivering end-to-end commercial and operational value, compensation models often still reflect a “deal-maker only” roleAdaptability is now a survival skill — with more release paths and tools available, managers must continuously evolve and build flexible, independent-capable business models. You can read Music Ally's full report on the chat here too: https://musically.com/2026/01/26/today-managers-could-probably-do-everything-but-funding-is-really-difficult===================================As ever, we welcome your feedback, emails and – in particular – any questions you might have about how the music biz works!Email us: thepriceofmusicpodcast@gmail.comSee you next week!Steve and Stuart======TPOM online: http://tpom.uk/Support The Price of Music on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/ThePriceofMusicFollow Steve on X - @steve_lamacqFollow Stuart on X - @stuartdredgeFollow The Price of Music on X - @PriceofMusicpodFor sponsorship opportunities, please email - joe@musically.com

Drawing inspiration from a recent Tricycle magazine article, this episode explores the powerful metaphors we unconsciously use to describe our lives—and how they influence the way we suffer, grow, and find freedom. When we examine the stories and images we live by, we discover new ways to relate to challenge, identity, and change. By choosing more liberating metaphors, we loosen old constraints and open to a life lived with greater clarity and compassion. THANKS FOR LISTENING! One of the most common meditation frustrations is the belief that something is wrong when the mind keeps thinking. In this episode, we gently bust one of the biggest myths about meditation: that a quiet mind is the goal. You'll learn why thoughts are not a sign of failure, what meditation is actually training us to notice, and how changing your relationship to thinking—not eliminating it—brings ease, confidence, and calm to your practice. In today's episode of Zen Commuter, we explore how meditation naturally builds confidence—not through positive thinking or self-improvement, but through familiarity with ourselves. As we sit and observe the mind, we begin to see thoughts for what they are rather than who we are. Over time, this creates a quiet trust: trust in our ability to stay present, to meet discomfort without being overwhelmed, and to respond instead of react. This episode invites you to see confidence not as something you have to develop, but as something that emerges when you stop trying to be different and learn to rest in who you already are.
