When Mike C was drinking, he always told himself, if it got that bad, he'd be able to stop. When it did get that bad, Mike found he could not.  On the surface, Mike's life was what you'd normally would say was the envy of everyone, but he felt was dead inside.  Mike was fortunate to have someone come into his life and told him he did not have to feel this way and there was a life beyond drinking.  Mike stayed connected to the program, shared the message with others and had good sobriety for five years.   And then he took back control, dialed back his meetings and the misery crept back in.Though Mike did not relapse, he did have to find ways to re-engage with his program.  Have you ever felt bored with recovery?  Start to feel that after a period of sobriety, meetings and the things you did to get sober, started to feel stale?  Mike shares a cautionary tale that may help you if you feel this way.Cantina Blues - Take the Lead by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100407Artist: http://incompetech.com/Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/soberfriendspod)

It's Peanut Butter Bowl time so we are congratulating and talking with Coach Ron Rittimann for Alamo Heights' incredible 5 1/2 day charge to collect 3,900 jars of peanut butter (current count). We also thank Coach for his leadership with Peanut Butter Bowl overall in inviting and inspiring other coaches to participate to feed hungry children through high school football. Then we talk to our Peanut Butter Bowl MVP donor, Mike Spears. Mike explains his involvement, interest, and generosity and how this year he is spreading the love (and the peanut butter!) to all 20 schools involved in what PB Bowl is calling the Mike Spears Touchdown Challenge. Though Mike is donating $100/50 jars for every Peanut Butter Bowl TD (check the scores of the first 4 games — that's A LOT of PB already!)— we are inviting people or businesses to do their own team's Touchdown Challenge and donate 50 jars per TD. Canyon Cougars have two individuals taking the challenge and one taking the brand new defense Turnover Challenge (50 jars per turnover created). If you'd like to take on a challenge reach out through PeanutButterBowl.com contact form.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Continuing a Coronavirus break, DL seizes an opportunity to get together with Mike Shipley, another of the three candidates running for the LNC Chair position. We discuss his path to running for LNC Chair, the concept of Bottom Unity, Justin Amash and more. Though Mike and DL would likely differ on many topics they had a great conversation. For many, this will likely be the first time hearing about Mike Komaransky, but those who know him already, know him as a Bitcoin OG—and deservedly so, as he began accumulating the cryptocurrency around 2010. Though Mike has been a professional trader of fixed income derivatives since 2001, when he joined powerhouse trading firm DRW. Mike later became a partner at DRW, and in 2014 he launched its cryptocurrency trading business Cumberland—which grew to become one of the world’s largest market makers. After leaving the company in 2017 and a hiatus from active trading, Mike has returned as the founder and head of Grapefruit Trading. Over the course of our conversation, we chat about; Mike’s distinguished trading career, the strange ways that he bought Bitcoin in the past (when it was far less accessible), Cumberland’s participation in the auction of seized Bitcoin from the Silk Road bust, Mike’s disdain for technical analysis, and plenty more…

Mike Blewitt and Dane Martinez open the show with Mike bragging about going 4-0 on Wild Card weekend, and Dane only getting the Bears wrong. The guys look at the draft positioning, with Dane hoping the Jets will listen to teams looking to move up the draft boards to pick a skill position like Ohio St. QB Dwayne Haskins. Looking at the coaching openings, the guys think Matt LaFluer could have some issues with Aaron Rodgers, but also could be a solid guy to help the younger pieces around the superstar. Looking ahead to the Divisional round games, Mike says he wasn't always on the Chiefs, and thinks the Colts have all the momentum going in to Arrowhead Stadium, as well as playoff success with a healthy Andrew Luck. Looking at some DFS plays for the playoffs, Dane really likes Tedd Ginn Jr. to get away from the Eagles secondary, and is also a very cheap play. Though Mike thinks the Chargers are the most complete team in the AFC, if not the NFL, he shows concern for the road warriors heading in to Foxboro against Tom Brady and the Patriots; Dane agrees that he was on the Chargers all season, but also knows it will be tough to get another cross country trip, and against New England.  #FNTSY #NFL #fantasyfootball #Clemson #Packers #Jets #Browns #Dolphins #Chargers #PhillipRivers #TomBrady #Patriots Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

Few styles are as satisfying as a perfectly executed saison. It’s no wonder that the devotees of this heterogeneous style are as passionate as they are, passing on the latest fad IPA to reach for some stubby green bottle with the hard-to-pronounce Belgian name. This show is dedicated to saisons of much variation, and we’re joined by saison lover and brewer Mike Thorpe of Afterthought Brewing in Lombard. Though Mike’s mixed culture and oak-aged saisons are being made in extremely limited volume, the beer is already approaching expert levels of refinement. For this show, we drink seven distinct saisons or farmhouse ales from all over to experience the variations in the style while Mike gets technical about the process. There’s a lot about Afterthought, but we also just luxuriate in the wonders of saison and what makes it different than just about any style. Also, there’s a huge development in the Craig Eating Celery Saga that you won’t want to miss. And if you truly love saisons, check out our Illinois Craft Beer Week event, Saisonathon, at Pub Royale on Monday, May 21st. We are joined by pop culture royalty this week as we welcome actor and puppeteer Mike Quinn to the show! Though Mike is best known for his portrayal of Nien Nunb in the Star Wars films, his work can also be seen in The Muppets, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Toy Story 2, Jurassic Park 3, and many other films. We talk with Mike about how he started working with puppets, how he came to work with Jim Henson and the Muppets, and his mark on the Star Wars movies.   Having done CG work on Attack of the Clones, bringing to life many of the puppets in Return of the Jedi, and reprising Nien Nunb in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, you would be hard pressed to find anyone else who can give a more in-depth look at what happens behind the scenes on a Star Wars film. A must listen for any fan!   secretsofpuppetry.com   CannedAirPodcast.com @CannedAirPod @Canned_Air
