Meteorology Bureau Abandons Cyclone Forecasts Amidst Extreme Australian Weather Jeremy Zakis Jeremy Zakis reports that the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has stopped issuing cyclone forecasts for Western Australia for the first time in 50 years. The BOM admitted its models are failing due to unexpected ocean temperatures and upper atmosphere warming, resulting in unpredictable forecasts. New South Wales has experienced highly erratic weather, including the "hottest October ever" and three seasons—winter's end, spring, and the start of summer—in just two days. The warm temperatures are driving residents to the beaches and pools. Although recent rain has provided abundant food for wildlife, Jeremy warns that the currently lush grass will quickly become tinder dry, creating a severe bushfire hazard if lightning storms arrive before more rain. 1952 QUEENSLAND
Last year I banged out an angry rant about the way Israel supporters would yell "release the hostages!" at anyone who talked about the latest massacre of Palestinian civilians, saying Hamas was to blame for the killing because of their refusal to release the Israeli captives, and that it would all stop once the hostages are free. I'm remembering that essay today because the hostages are free, but the massacres are continuing. Reading by Tim Foley.

Hi Loyal Readers. Thank you for opening this week's issue of Article Club.Today's issue is dedicated to a great conversation I had with Caitlin Moscatello, author of this month's featured article, “The Monster at the Dinner Table.” In case you hit a paywall, here's a gift link.About the articleThis is an article about a newish and very scary disorder that is affecting kids. It's called ARFID, which is short for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. Kids with ARFID lose their interest in eating. Sometimes it's mild — maybe your kid eats only one type of food, like chicken nuggets. But in some cases, it's extreme — as in, your kid doesn't eat at all.About the authorMs. Moscatello is a features contributor to New York Magazine, and has also written for the New York Times, Vanity Fair, TIME, and Harper's Bazaar, among other outlets. She's a National Magazine Award finalist, and also the recipient of a Front Page Award. Her book SEE JANE WIN: The Inspiring Story of the Women Changing American Politics (Dutton) is a New York Times Editor's Choice selection, and has been called “a profoundly inspiring work of journalism” by Apple Books. Caitlin is co-executive producer of the three-part HBO docuseries “An Update on Our Family,” which premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film festival. The series is inspired by her 2020 New York Magazine feature Un-Adopted.About the interviewI deeply appreciated speaking with Ms. Moscatello. We talked about a number of topics, including:* how this piece originated* how being a parent affected her reporting* how she built trust with her sources* how she balanced demonstrating compassion for the parents, while also making sure to be accurate about how ARFID manifestsIn addition, Ms. Moscatello shared how she approaches the writing process, including how she organizes her longform articles. For example, she knew that this piece couldn't begin with a medical examination of ARFID's causes and impact on families. That would be too much dense information too soon. That's why Ms. Moscatello decided to introduce Laura, Mark, and Amelia first. (Very effective, I thought.)I also liked hearing that Ms. Moscatello is a “top-to-bottom writer,” meaning she begins at the beginning and ends at the end, rather than writing different sections out of order. You can listen to her elaborate on that idea here: The way my brain works, I need to start at the top and go in in order. So it's really, I spend so much time on an opening paragraph. It is not abnormal for me to spend four days or five days on an opening paragraph. And the first part of a piece is always the densest and most difficult for me to get going.I hope you enjoy the interview. Once again, huge appreciation to Ms. Moscatello for generously saying yes to Article Club.An invitation to our discussion on October 26I warmly invite you to participate in our discussion on Sunday, October 26, 2:00 - 3:30 pm PT. We'll meet on Zoom. You can sign up below, it's free.Thank you for reading and listening to this week's issue. Hope you liked it.
Have you ever won an argument but lost everything that actually mattered? You were right, they were wrong, you proved your point - but somehow you walked away feeling emptier, more disconnected, and further from peace than before you started. Here's what nobody tells you about the addiction to being right: it's a zero-sum game where everyone loses, and your ego would literally rather be correct than free. The problem isn't that you have opinions - it's that defending them has become more important than connecting with reality. This episode exposes why being right becomes more valuable than being happy (and how to catch yourself in that trap), the wildfire metaphor that shows how much energy you waste putting out fires you created by needing to be correct, and what actually happens to that energy when you stop burning it on ego battles. You'll discover the sugar test that proves when you're defending lies to yourself, why miracles only occur when there's zero self-interest in the miracle-worker, and the exact moment the speaker shifted from debating to dancing through conversations. Plus the brutal truth about victim mentality, regret as a guidance system, and why your cells are literally changing when you let go of rightness.Hit play to learn why the less opinions you have, the more genuine connection becomes possible - and what to do the moment you realize you've been defending lies.New episodes out every Monday and Thursday at 10 AM Eastern Time The Greek God Physique Blueprint - https://www.justinegliskis.com/The Greek God Physique Strategy Call - https://calendly.com/egliskiscapital/greek-god-physique-strategy-callEmail egliskis@pm.me to get in contact with meDiscover a podcast designed for entrepreneurs and solopreneurs navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship, offering insights on stress management, health and wellness, and overcoming imposter syndrome, while emphasizing work-life balance, energy alignment, and inner peace; explore topics like burnout recovery, business automation, scaling a business, business growth strategies, client management, mental resilience, overcoming anxiety, and achieving clearer thinking for sustainable success, using the blade of awareness, solving emotional dysfunction and unveiling the trickster within. “A New and Beautiful day is rising.” That's what President Trump told a gathering of world leaders this week.He was speaking of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas…meant to pave the way to a permanent end to the war that has left much of the Gaza strip in rubble. Now, Trump said, the rebuilding begins. There are huge questions about what comes after the ceasefire. Who will govern Gaza? Will Hamas disarm? When will Israeli troops fully withdraw? And before any of that, there's a more urgent challenge — getting food and medicine to the people in Gaza. For sponsor-free episodes of Consider This, sign up for Consider This+ via Apple Podcasts or at plus.npr.org. You're Not Supposed to Know Everything in Your BusinessThis week, something weird (but awesome) happened. I realized I didn't actually know how part of my own business worked and that was a good thing. While onboarding a new social media manager, I was asked a simple question about our content process and for a moment, I froze. I didn't know the answer. But that moment turned into a powerful realization: as a business owner, you're not supposed to know every detail. In this episode of The Unfiltered Sessions Podcast, I'll unpack: ✅ Why not knowing every process is actually a sign of growth ✅ The difference between oversight and micromanagement ✅ What it really means to lead from a 30,000-foot view ✅ How to let go of control without losing direction ✅ Practical steps to get out of the weeds and start leading like a CEOIf you're still buried in the day-to-day tasks and struggling to let go, this episode is your wake-up call. Delegation isn't a weakness, it's the next step toward true leadership.

Using a stopped escalator as stairs might seem harmless, but it can actually be risky! First off, escalator steps are taller and deeper than regular stairs, so it's easy to lose your footing or trip. Plus, escalators are designed to move, so their steps don't have the same grip as normal stairs, making them more slippery. When the escalator isn't working, it can also be unstable, especially if there's a sudden fix or maintenance happening. There's also a chance that the escalator could start moving again suddenly if it's not fully shut off, which would be a big surprise! For safety, it's better to use regular stairs or an elevator if the escalator is out of service. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

How does a fee-only firm grow without losing its purpose? In this episode, we talk with Sean Gillespie, president of Redeployment Wealth Strategies, about the lessons behind raising fees, building the right team, and serving military families with care and consistency.Sean explains why their first-year planning fee reflects the real work of sorting through insurance, TSP choices, and transition planning, and how they keep ongoing service affordable for younger service members. One story sums it up well: a client calls mid-PCS, asking if they can buy a beach house near family. Within a minute, Sean knows the answer and the funding source. That's the value of clear planning—fast decisions, managed risks, and confidence in the next step.We also discuss why “hire us for returns” is a losing pitch, how RWS uses a passive, factor-based approach, and what it takes to hire and train through SkillBridge. Sean shares how their firm grew by focusing on character over titles and why their biggest competitor isn't another advisor—it's Google. Finally, he explains how they simplified compliance by co-founding Apforia, an SEC-registered umbrella that helps independent firms keep their brand while easing regulatory headaches. If you care about fair pricing, meaningful planning, and building a business that lasts, this conversation is full of practical lessons you can use.Episode #44 with Sean:https://www.buzzsprout.com/1943910/episodes/12637266Website: https://www.redeploymentwealth.com/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sean-gillespie-1801316/

This episode gave me goosebumps — and you'll understand why soon.Today, I'm speaking with the identical twin sisters Cipriana Quann and TK Wonder, hosts of the Chew on Something podcast and founders of Urban Bush Babes, a lifestyle platform celebrating the multi-faceted lives of women of color.Cipriana is a former Vogue writer; TK Wonder is a rapper and singer who's opened for artists like Nas and Afrika Bambaataa. Together, they've starred in campaigns for Fendi, Valentino, Tiffany & Co., Sephora, and more.I first saw them years ago in New York City during my Condé Nast days — two striking women shaping culture and fashion. I never imagined that years later, they'd be sitting on The New Health Club podcast couch in Denver with Joe Moore from Psychedelics Today and me, sharing one of the most powerful healing stories I've ever heard.Cipriana and TK open up about surviving sexual, physical, and childhood abuse — and how, for years, they used sugar and comfort food to numb the pain. Their discovery of Ibogaine, a plant medicine known for its deep psychological healing, completely transformed their relationship with their bodies and their health. This is a story about sisterhood, resilience, and the power of psychedelics to help us finally face what we've been running from — and heal for good.In this episode:How trauma shapes our relationship with foodThe healing potential of IbogaineFrom fashion icons to wellness voicesWhat real transformation looks like after trauma✨ How we used food to numb our trauma — and how Ibogaine helped us heal from it.INSTAGRAM@CiprianaQuann@TK-Wonder FOLLOW US ON IG@TheNewHealhInstitute @TheNewHealthClub @philippianne LINKEDIN https://www.linkedin.com/in/annephilippi/ Hosted on Acast. The necessary politics of our age is to turn down the virtual reality and reintroduce actual reality. A tree will do this. The Earth marches closer with every fire and flood. No politician is as removed from reality as Donald Trump, no bank is farther from holding your savings than JPMorgan Chase, no religion more distant from bringing the comfort of unconditional grace than the fundamentalist empires with their God. And in our performance we call that political, financial and spiritual capitulation - we call it shopping. Consumerism. The necessary politics of our age is to stop living in the unreal echo of products. All together now, sing it! "Stop Shopping! Start Living!"
In this episode of The Supported Wife Society, host Lemon Price dives into why husbands often stop taking initiative in relationships. She explains how high-achieving women can unintentionally monopolize the mental load and decision-making processes, leaving no room for their husbands to lead. Lemon offers practical steps to reinstate balance, starting with a mental load audit to identify responsibilities. She emphasizes the importance of pausing to allow husbands space to plan and act, handing over manageable tasks, and refraining from micromanagement and criticism. Happy October! If you've been following recent episodes of the Selling to Corporate ® podcast, you'll know I love a good trend prediction—and this year, one big shift has arrived faster than expected. So… what's stopping B2B sales growth right now? The #1 Hidden Trap: Negativity + Lack of Strategy Despite a booming B2B market (yes, companies ARE spending more, hiring external suppliers, and booking high-value engagements!), I'm seeing more consultants and sales professionals struggle to hit their revenue targets. Why? Here's what's happening: Negativity Echo Chambers: There's an overwhelming focus on everything feeling hard—market uncertainty, global events, peer groups venting frustrations. If your daily rhythm starts with news or LinkedIn doom-scrolling, your sales mindset takes a major hit before you even begin working. Peer-Led Accountability (Used Wrong): While supportive networks are great for encouragement, relying on peers for strategic decision-making or troubleshooting technical sales problems simply doesn't work anymore. You wouldn't ask your best friend to diagnose your heart problem, right? The same thinking applies to your sales process. Mistaking Knowledge for Results: Just knowing how sales “should” work isn't enough. The market is changing fast. What brought you success last year may fall flat this year. Continuous accountability, real strategy, and expert guidance keep the needle moving. The Good News: There's Huge Opportunity if You Shift Focus Even in this wild year, our podcast community has been sharing wins: Clients having their best month ever 30K speaking engagements secured 6-figure contracts signed with new clients in under 6 weeks High conversion rates for those who stay focused on actionable strategy It's not about ignoring the hard stuff—it's about how you show up for your business before the negativity sets in. Strategic action, consistent outreach, and real accountability are your best friends right now. What to Do Next If you want 2026 to look radically different (and better!) for your business: Get strategic support that's built for where you are and where you want to go, not just trending advice from peers or influencers. Consider how you're really spending your “sales” time each day. Are you letting outside noise dictate your results? Take a look at your goals for next year. Are they clear—and matched with a sales strategy that aligns? Opportunities Not to Miss: The Expert Services Directory is almost full in some categories. If you coach execs in London, we have just TWO spots left for the next 12 months. The final ever round of The C Suite ® program is open for enrolment until 31st October or until all 45 remaining spots are taken (whichever comes first). This is the program with a 96% market success rate, and it's created millions in revenue for participants in 20+ countries. Don't miss out—this is your final chance. Stay tuned—upcoming podcast episodes will feature case studies, breakthrough sales stories, and practical planning tips you won't want to miss. Let's make the most of what's left of 2025—and plan for a phenomenal 2026! Key Quotes; Who Should Teach You B2B Sales? 00:00:4500:01:03 "If somebody has not worked in a business development and specifically a new business development management or new business development sales director type position in a corporate company, then they have no business giving you any advice on how to sell to companies." The Importance of Qualified Strategic Advice 00:29:5600:30:24 "But when we're not taking strategic advice from somebody who is qualified in their field to troubleshoot that advice, who's qualified in their field to be able to make changes and make appropriate and educated changes, rather than just telling them to do the same thing repeatedly without, you know, checking anything, that person continues to get lower results." The Panic Trap—Why More Content Doesn't Always Fix Your Business 00:38:4000:39:06 "So this is where people really panic and they're like, oh my gosh, well, if it's not working, if the market's awful, I'm going to start posting on social media every day. I'm going to create 10 hours worth of content a week. I'm going to be doing free webinars and I'm going to do a three part newsletter sequence with, you know, some kind of tech funnel that drips them into a paid product for 99 pounds or whatever it is. And that doesn't work and they don't see results." The Pitfalls of Peer-Led Environments 00:32:4900:33:21 "In a peer led environment, there is this vacuum of knowledge and motivation and innovation and ability to troubleshoot. So the negativity that can be there, combined with the lack of strategy and consistent application of that strategy and ability to troubleshoot it in the right way, that's caused real issues because it has created these kinds of echo chambers of "oh, well, everyone's doing badly." The Power of Celebrating Success 00:48:1700:48:39 "What really makes me sad is that there are people who've had an amazing year this year who don't want to talk about it. They don't want to say it publicly because they don't want to make other people who are in the weeds feel bad. And that's really awful because actually, if we don't start talking positively about, you know, this person's done this amazing thing, this person's achieved this awesome goal, this person's still standing at this level. All we hear is that negativity. So we assume everything's bad, and so they miss out on the opportunity to inspire a whole bunch of people." The Japanese economy was once the envy of the world. By the 1980s, it looked set to surpass the United States in size. Real estate prices were high, the stock market was booming—the entire world was asking if Japan had found a superior model of economic growth and recovery after World War II, one grounded in industrial policy. However, the bubble burst in the early 1990s, and what followed was not a quick recession and rebound as we have often seen in the U.S., but decades of stagnation. Near-zero deflation became entrenched, and the banking system turned into a drug of cheap borrowing rather than an engine for recovery, with the Bank of Japan pioneering quantitative easing by pushing interest rates to zero long before the U.S. Federal Reserve considered such steps in the wake of the 2007 financial crisis. Japan has never since returned to sustainable growth, and this matters for the world at large. A significant creditor to other countries, shifts in Japan's economic policy and fluctuations in its currency ripple across global interest rates, tightening or loosening financial conditions worldwide. Japan also remains a critical node in global supply chains (including for semiconductor chips and electronics), a major importer of energy, and not for nothing, its cultural exports continue to conquer the world. What lessons can Japan's lost decades of economic stagnation and missed opportunities offer the U.S. and other developed economies? Bethany and Luigi are joined by Takeo Hoshi, professor of economics at the University of Tokyo and a leading expert on Japan's financial system and economic stagnation. Together, they discuss Japan's idiosyncrasies—from demographic decline to economic policy mismanagement—and the interplay of global factors such as populism, nativism, and dissatisfaction with capitalism. If the U.S. is indeed on the cusp of its own economic bubble driven by oversized capital investments in artificial intelligence and technology rather than consumer spending and wage growth, does it have the institutions and flexibility to avoid Japan's fate? Today, Hunter was joined by Professor Shira Diner to discuss the Bar Advocate work stoppage in the state of Massachusetts. Back in May, the Bar Advocates, the private defense lawyers who handle 80% of Massachusetts's public defender workload, stopped taking new cases due to the incredibly low hourly rate they are paid. Since then, thousands of people have been left without representation as the courts have been unable to assign cases to attorneys. Now the question is, where does the state go from here?
