We’re long overdue for something smart about Brexit on this show, or something smart in general. To that effect, this week, Riley (@raaleh), Milo (@Milo_Edwards), Hussein (@HKesvani), and Nate (@inthesedeserts) speak with Brexit seer and director of IPPR, Tom Kibasi (@TomKibasi). You may remember Tom from our infamous November ‘Yu-Gi-Oh Dragon Dick” episode in which he correctly predicted the entire sequence of events leading up to now re: Brexit. Well, Tom has more predictions, so this one will be a treat. Stick it to the stuffed shirts at the BBC and vote for us to win a British Podcasting Award. Wonders will never cease. All her avenues exhausted, Theresa May reaches out to the only person who can help in her hour of need. And that would be… Jeremy Corbyn? This week we look at the minefield that is the Theresa-Jezza Love-in. Is compromise possible any longer in the snakepit of the Commons? Who will carry the can for Brexit if they pull it off? And what does this mean for Labour’s General Election plans and the future of the two parties? As luck would have it we recorded right before Emily Thornberry launched her People’s Vote challenge to Corbyn but what do you want from us? Absolute topicality? Also this week special guest TOM KIBASI of the Institute for Public Policy Research joins us for a cheerful – yes, cheerful! – view of Brexit from the progressive end of things. He tells us why the real radicalisation of the Conservative party isn’t anything to do with Brexit and says there was another big lie told during the Referendum: “People were told not to risk something they never had.”In a double whammy of left-of-centre optimism we talk to RUTGER BREGMAN, author of Utopia For Realists And How We Can Get There. Universal income, a 15-hour work week and the end of “bullshit jobs” sounds great, but how does it relate to Brexit? Oh, and we start with a tribute to the great Orchestral Maneouvres In The Dark, on tour throughout Europe YES EUROPE later this year. Presented by Dorian Lynskey with Naomi Smith and Alex Andreou. Produced by Andrew Harrison. Audio production is by Elsie Bath. You may have heard about this thing called Brexit. Apparently, it means Brexit. And on this week’s Trashfuture, Riley (@raaleh) and Hussein (@HKesvani) spoke with Institute for Public Policy Research (@IPPR) director Tom Kibasi (@TomKibasi) about the real victim of Brexit: political metaphor. Then we talk about the deal itself, Labour's Brexit strategy, and debunk the myth that "Labour could be 20 points ahead under a different leader." We also talk about Yu-Gi-Oh. Yes, we brought on one of Britain’s most influential left economics and policy voices in order to talk about Yu-Gi-Oh. Above all else, we are on-brand. This is going to be our first and only Brexit episode. If you want to hear us talk about Brexit and not dumb bullshit, skip to five or so minutes in.
