Send us a text!In this episode, we talk with Will Tanner about the history of Rhodesia, including its rise and tragic fall under the leadership of Ian Smith. He was a great man but he could not stop the globalist democratic egalitarian onslaught that was hellbent on destroying a country that was "more British than the British." But why was it so? Why did the West, including men like Jimmy Carter, want Rhodesia turned into a hellscape? We'll discuss it in this episode. Brian and Eric also talk about why Rhodesia's story is so important to understand regarding cultural forces now affecting the U.S. Can the same things happen here? Is the downfall of the West inevitable? How can it be stopped? Did you know supporters of the show get ad-free video and audio episodes delivered early and access to our patron exclusive show The Deus Vault?https://www.patreon.com/thekingshallAre you a business owner looking to strengthen your cyber security? Rhodesia had a reputation of being "more British than Britain" — and that was its undoing.  Instead of giving up the proud aristocratic British tradition that reigned for centuries in England and the United States, Rhodesia held fast to it.  And so, in the 1960s, the USSR and America and England conspired to destroy it.  And they succeeded.  Prosperous free Rhodesia disappeared, and backwards murderous Zimbabwe took its place.  It's a fascinating — and very disturbing — story. Will Tanner, co-founder of The American Tribune, also offers his thoughts on Donald Trump, noblesse oblige, and no-fault divorce. With just a few days to go before the 2024 presidential elections, we hear a lot of chatter about American democracy, usually from partisan hacks who are more interested in touting self-serving lies than honing up to inconvenient truths. But the actual hurdles we face as we try to heal our ailing system are much more complicated, and overcoming them is going to take much more than lofty slogans. Liel is joined by writer Will Tanner, who delivers a cautionary tale from the late Roman Republic contemporary Americans should heed, and explains why the policies too many of our lawmakers are pursuing have led another nation grappling with racial justice, South Africa, to the brink of collapse.

What does that mean for the election? Inflation has fallen dramatically but remains a top concern for voters.  Wall Street celebrating better-than-expected jobs report As the U.S. hurtles toward a presidential election this fall, the nation's inflation rate has quietly returned to normal, even as it continues to worry voters and draw focus at campaign events. More than half of adults list inflation as a top issue for the country, making it the highest-ranking concern by a wide margin over the likes of immigration, crime and abortion, according to an Ipsos poll conducted late last month. The disconnect stems in part from a typical lag between when inflation comes down and when consumers acclimate to new price levels, since a lower inflation rate does not mean prices have come down but rather that they have begun to increase at a slower pace, experts told ABC News. Americans living abroad can have tax obligations both to the U.S. and to the country where they reside, though U.S. tax laws have some features to mitigate those dual burdens. But that's still a relatively unusual mandate, as many countries allow their citizens not to pay taxes while they're residing abroad. Kerry Hudson grew up in all-encompassing and grinding poverty. She is now an acclaimed author, but tells Tom Sutcliffe why she returned home to explore the impact and trap of being lowborn. Howard Brenton’s latest play is loosely inspired by Thomas Hardy’s Jude the Obscure and features a clever, ambitious young woman fighting for an opportunity, yet held back by her background. Will Tanner, director of the think tank Onward, looks at what social mobility - or a lack of it - means in the political sphere. The age at which voters are more likely to vote Conservative than Labour has risen rapidly, and Tanner sees this as both a challenge and an opportunity for all the main parties. The musician and activist Billy Bragg has written about the Three Dimensions of Freedom in which he argues that without equality and accountability, freedom is a mere shadow. Producer: Katy Hickman

We spend an awful lot of time worrying about the political weather. But behind the day-to-day drama, the political climate is changing too - and in fundamental ways. One of the biggest shifts in recent years is the widening generational gap. There have always been differences between younger and older voters, but they are getting harder and harder to ignore. In fact, age – not class or income – is now the best predictor of how someone will vote. The younger you are, the less likely you are to vote Tory. And that problem for the right appears to be getting worse. So if you want to understand the challenges the Conservative Party face, tackling the generational aspect of modern politics is unavoidable. On Monday, Onward, a centre-right think tank, published the latest set of polling on the Conservatives’ generational woes. For this week’s episode of Free Exchange I spoke to Will Tanner, director of Onward and former adviser to Theresa May, about what is driving Britain’s widening age gap, and what the Conservative Party should do about it. We often complain that our politicians are all bluffers who know very little about a lot. But is the very structure of our political institutions at fault? And is the bluffocracy taking over the civil service, too (00:50)? Speaking of bluffers, Theresa May is fudging her way through the Brexit negotiations, but can she survive after March 2019 (18:40)? And last, maybe all this politics has made you long for the good old days of monarchy. With Prince Charles's art collection on exhibit, we ask, what can be gleaned about our future king from his paintings (27:10)?
