The Pirates had a chance to make a statement this week against the Braves and Dodgers, but instead, a 1-5 stretch exposed some real concerns. Alex Stumpf breaks down why the pitching staff suddenly feels like the biggest issue, from Mitch Keller's recent struggles to the rotation's workload questions with Paul Skenes, Braxton Ashcraft, Jared Jones, and Bubba Chandler. He also looks at the bullpen problems, the impact of Oneil Cruz being out, and why the schedule does not give this team much room to breathe. Elon Musk spent a lot of his week trying to explain how OpenAI wronged him — but mostly just seemed to annoy everyone else in the courtroom. Nilay and David discuss Musk's testimony in the OpenAI trial, and what it might mean for the trial going forward. The Atlantic published an article based on multiple insider accounts describing low morale at the FBI, citing current director Kash Patel's drinking and frequent absences. Patel promised swift legal retaliation and made good with an underwhelming $250 million defamation complaint. Amidst this scandal, Patel took to the stage with Acting AG Todd Blanche to announce criminal charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center and, by extension, tell hate groups that the Trump administration has their backs. As a distraction tactic, the announcement flopped because Patel spent the press conference undermining his own defamation case. On top of this, the no one at the DOJ bothered to double-check the charging documents, because the indictment fails to allege a whole element. In non-DOJ news, Sullivan & Cromwell sent a letter to the court apologizing for filing a number of documents with AI hallucinations.
This week, we've got a little something for everyone: gambling! Kraftwerk! Blast from the recent US political past Tim Walz! It was a Good Week yet again for Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the darling of the global left, who threw a party for… the global left. And it was a Bad Week for the legendary German electronic band Kraftwerk, who apparently have been around since 1970(!) and therefore can withstand the occasional bad week. We also caught up with Greek investigative reporter Eurydice Bersi, who was part of a team that uncovered a slew of streamers on places like YouTube and Twitch who've been directing their followers to unlicensed gambling sites – and profiting off it. Eurydice is a reporter with Reporters United, Investigate Europe's partners in Greece. The Trump Economy On our political radar this week… J.D. Vance went 0-for-2 on his European trip. Victor Orban, campaigning with Vance at his side, got dumped as President of Hungary…despite ringing endorsements from Donald Trump and his BFF Vladimir Putin. Then Vance led negotiations with Iran over ending Trump's Middle East War and struck out, calling it quits after all of one day of talks. Facing multiple allegations of sexual improprieties, Eric Swalwell has resigned from Congress and pulled out of the California gubernatorial race while denying the accusations. There was bipartisan condemnation of Swalwell's behavior but, when asked if the same standard should be applied to pussy-grabbing Donald Trump, Republicans suddenly had a problem answering. Also resigning in disgrace: Texas Republican Tony Gonzalez, like Swalwell facing allegations of sexual misconduct against him. Republicans are worried that a special election to replace him could result in a Democratic flip thanks, in part, to the new GOP gerrymander of the state. The Trump politicizing of the Justice Department continues. Two federal civil rights prosecutors in Detroit who secured convictions against a group of Christian protestors accused of blocking access to abortion clinics were fired as part of a Trump administration crackdown on what it says were politically motivated cases under former President Joe Biden. Donald Trump is redirecting his demented rage at Pope Leo, who had the temerity to note that Jesus wasn't a fan of war or genocide. All that's been missing so far: Trump calling the Pope “Low IQ”. And then, there’s that AI image of “Dr. Jesus of Palm Beach” which was quickly deleted from Trump's Truth Social account. The field is effectively set for Michigan's U.S. Senate race. On the Democratic side, Haley Stevens, Mallory McMorrow and Abdul El Sayed each submitted their nominating petitions to the Elections Bureau in the last few days. Republican Mike Rogers' campaign says he has his petitions ready to go and will file shortly. All four candidates are submitting around 30,000 signatures, the maximum allowed under state law. John James has joined with all the Republican candidates for Governor making a campaign promise they can't keep: repealing the state income tax. The repeal would basically eliminate the entire General Fund budget. Since Michigan has a flat-rate tax, the biggest winners with repeal would be the state's wealthiest taxpayers. Attorney General Dana Nessel has blasted on one of the many offsets that's raising your cost of living: utility rates run amuck. She joined with other Democratic and community leaders to deride the state's Public Service Commission for rolling over on behalf of the state's two major utilities. Michigan Democrats are holding their candidate endorsement convention this weekend. The events can be seen as a prelude to the 2028 national campaign with potential presidential candidates Kamala Harris, Andy Beshear and Cory Booker all doing some speechifying in the Motor City. The Dems are focusing on growing inflation brought about by Donald Trump's Mideast War, and his obsession with tariffs. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell led a news conference addressing the most fundamental “kitchen table” issue: the cost of living, noting that tax cuts in the Republicans' Big Beautiful Bill are more than offset by the cost of groceries, gasoline, electricity and healthcare. It's a mantra we'll hear a lot between now and November. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We’re now on YouTube every week! Click here to subscribe. For the first time, a jury has looked past Section 230 protections to hold Meta and Google liable for the "addictive" design of their platforms. Following a bellwether trial in Los Angeles, a 20-year-old woman was awarded millions in damages after jurors found the tech giants acted with "malice, oppression, or fraud." Former prosecutor and FOX News contributor Josh Ritter joins the Rundown to break down the internal "smoking gun" documents—where employees compared social media to drug pushing—and discusses what this means for the thousands of similar cases waiting in the wings. The U.S. justice system is bracing for an unprecedented legal battle as Nicolás Maduro faces federal charges in New York for allegedly leading a sprawling narcoterrorism conspiracy. Former state and federal prosecutor Jim Trusty joins to discuss the unique challenges of this international case, including the struggle to fund a private defense under federal sanctions, the legal hurdles of using classified evidence, and why the military-backed "Cartel of the Suns" makes a traditional trial or plea deal highly complex. Plus, commentary by David Marcus, columnist for FOX News Digital. PHOTO CREDIT: ASSOCIATED PRESS Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Chicago just held a press conference to unveil a snowplow named "Abolish ICE" — with Mayor Brandon Johnson grinning for the cameras — days after an 18-year-old girl was murdered in his city by an illegal immigrant that sanctuary policies shielded from deportation. Then it got worse: in Fairfax County, Virginia, a 19-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador was enrolled in a public high school with 14-year-old girls, where he's now accused of groping them between classes. Larry O'Connor connects the dots between Chicago's sanctuary city failures, JB Pritzker's hypocrisy on "tyranny," Dick Durbin's silence, and a Virginia school policy that allows 22-year-old illegal immigrants to sit in classrooms with freshmen. Larry O'Connor breaks down Trump's explosive cabinet meeting on Iran, Venezuela's oil boom, and the reporter who actually asked the President to reveal his secret war plans on live television. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had another tough week. In addition to Kennedy having surgery on a torn rotator cuff, the nomination of his ally to become surgeon general is teetering in the Senate, the controversial head of the Food and Drug Administration's vaccine center is resigning next month, and a new survey shows Americans trust government health officials less than they do former Biden official Anthony Fauci. Meanwhile, the Trump administration's fraud crackdown is reaching private Medicare insurance plans. Anna Edney of Bloomberg News, Shefali Luthra of The 19th, and Joanne Kenen of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Politico Magazine join KFF Health News' Julie Rovner to discuss these stories and more. Also this week, Rovner interviews Andy Schneider of Georgetown University about the Trump administration's crackdown on Medicaid fraud in Democratic-led states. Visit our website for a transcript of this episode.Plus, for "extra credit" the panelists suggest health policy stories they read this week that they think you should read, too: Julie Rovner: The Marshall Project's "The Harrowing Journey Home for Families Leaving Immigration Detention," by Shannon Heffernan, Jesse Bogan, and Anna Flagg. This week, we wanted to ask a question that has been in our hearts and on our minds for years: Is it possible to try to make positive change in the world, and still stay healthy and sane? Dutch writer, political philosopher, and “recovering diplomat” Nori Spauwen believes that the answer is yes – even if it's not always easy to strike the right balance. We chatted with Nori about “healthy” activism and training yourself to feel empowered in response to difficult news. If you've been overwhelmed lately (has anyone not?), this is a conversation for you. Also in this week's episode: a successful European Citizens' Initiative that will make it easier for European women to procure abortion across borders, and a very Bad Week for Greece's former finance minister-turned-public intellectual Yanis Varoufakis stemming from a Kylie Minogue concert 36 years ago. Welcome back to Astronomy Daily! In S05E55, Anna and Avery explore six fascinating stories from across the cosmos — from auroras on Jupiter's largest moon to the latest JWST galaxy reveal, a breakthrough solar storm warning system, a beautiful combined nebula image, Japan's ongoing rocket struggles, and Europe's ambitious plans for orbital repair robots. Stories This Episode 1. Ganymede's Auroras Mirror Earth's Northern Lights Scientists using data from NASA's Juno spacecraft have revealed that Jupiter's largest moon Ganymede has fragmented, patch-like auroras remarkably similar to those seen on Earth. The research, led by the University of Liège and published in Astronomy & Astrophysics, suggests that the fundamental physical processes generating auroras may be universal across magnetised bodies in the solar system. Ganymede is the only moon known to have its own intrinsic magnetic field. 2. New Solar Superflare Forecasting System An international team has developed the first system capable of predicting when and where extreme solar storms are likely to occur, with up to a year's advance warning. By analysing 50 years of X-ray data, researchers identified a 1.7-year and a 7-year solar cycle whose alignment predicts high-risk periods. The current window (mid-2025 to mid-2026) is flagged as elevated danger. Published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics. 3. Cat's Eye Nebula — Euclid and Hubble Combined NASA and ESA have combined imagery from the Euclid and Hubble space telescopes to produce a breathtaking new composite view of the Cat's Eye Nebula — the glowing remnant of a dying star about 3,000 light-years away in Draco. The image showcases the nebula's complex layered shells and intricate inner structure in unprecedented detail. 4. JWST Reveals Spiral Galaxy NGC 5134 The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a stunning infrared portrait of NGC 5134, a barred spiral galaxy 65 million light-years away. Webb's infrared capability pierces through galactic dust to reveal glowing stellar nurseries and the full cycle of star birth and evolution playing out across the galaxy's spiral arms. 5. Japan's Kairos Rocket — Safety Abort on Third Attempt Space One's Kairos No. 3 rocket was aborted just 30 seconds before liftoff on March 4 when a safety monitoring system detected unstable positioning satellite signals. Following two failed launches in 2024 and multiple weather scrubs this week, the company has yet to set a new launch date. The window remains open until March 25. A successful launch would mark the first orbital success for a fully private Japanese rocket. 6. Europe's Orbital Repair Robots European companies led by Thales Alenia Space are developing robotic satellites capable of refuelling, repairing and repositioning spacecraft in orbit. A demonstration mission is planned for 2028. With nearly 15,000 operational satellites now in orbit — most never designed to be serviced — the in-orbit servicing market could transform how we manage space infrastructure. Regulatory questions around liability remain unresolved. Chris Terrell introduces a new episode format by sharing an impromptu hot seat coaching call from his Guild program's maintenance class. The featured coaching conversation is with Misty (a previous guest) who has lost about 190 pounds and maintained it, but struggles to add exercise consistently. Chris also mentions a free three-week audio weight loss coaching course available at becomingthin.com.In the coaching call, Misty explains her rigid standard that “exercise” must be a 45–60 minute gym session, combined with a chaotic schedule, low enjoyment of the gym, and lack of a compelling goal. She likes activities that feel like normal life (hiking, paddleboarding, lake swimming) and notes fear around goals that might expose physical limitations (including pulmonary concerns). Chris and the group identify the root causes as philosophy/definition of exercise, unrealistic expectations, and focusing on “being better” rather than building the habit of showing up. Alex shares his own progression from very small fitness goals (VR workouts/kettlebell swings) to daily training, emphasizing that intrusive resistance thoughts can remain while the habit continues.Chris guides Misty toward lowering the minimum standard to something “insultingly easy,” focusing first on consistency and accountability rather than the perfect program. He suggests setting a small, repeatable baseline (e.g., three days a week for 10 minutes for several weeks), allowing overdelivery without raising the standard too soon, reducing friction by taking tiny next steps (putting on workout clothes, driving to the park), and pairing exercise with enjoyable elements (music, audiobooks, scrolling, phone calls). He reinforces that since Misty isn't chasing a specific performance goal yet, she can sample different activities and let a motivating goal emerge later. The episode ends with Chris highlighting how root cause analysis and coaching can shorten the time it takes to solve recurring problems.00:00 Welcome Back, Champion: Learning From Failure00:34 Chris's 125-Lb Story & the 6 Levers That Change Results01:13 Why This Episode: A Real Coaching Call on Adding Exercise03:06 Quick Plug: Free 3-Week Weight Loss Coaching Course04:01 Misty's Roadblocks: Gym Hate, Time, and a Chaotic Schedule06:08 Finding a Real Fitness Goal (Pushups, Pullups… or Something Bigger)08:08 The Real Root Cause: Rigid Definitions & Fear of Not Being Capable12:47 Resetting Expectations: What Counts as Exercise? In this Sunday School Remix episode, Pastor Nate revisits one of the most misunderstood disciples in the Bible. The story of Thomas (John 20:19-31) is often used as a warning about doubt—but what if it's actually a story about trauma, fairness, and Jesus meeting people exactly where they are?Through fresh storytelling and historical context, this episode reframes Thomas not as weak in faith, but deeply human. After witnessing the brutal crucifixion of Jesus, Thomas isn't asking for proof out of stubbornness—he's asking for healing. This episode explores:Why Thomas gets an unfair reputationHow trauma shapes faith and beliefWhat it means that Jesus comes back just for one personWhy doubt, questions, and locked doors are not barriers for JesusHow this story speaks to anyone who has ever felt left out, unsure, or behind in their faithIf you've ever thought, “I wish my faith felt easier,” or “Why don't I experience God the way others do?”—this episode is for you.Sunday school was just the beginning. Faith is still unfolding.00:00 – Intro: What If Thomas Was Just Having a Bad Week?01:05 – Why Pastors Always Preach This Text02:10 – Why Thomas Wasn't There03:00 – Roman Crucifixion & Trauma04:45 – Why Doubt Makes Sense06:15 – From “Doubting” to Honest Thomas07:30 – Jesus Comes Back for the One09:00 – Jesus, the God of Locked Doors10:45 – Breaking the Fourth Wall in John's Gospel12:15 – What This Story Asks of Us Today13:30 – Closing: Sunday School Was Just the Beginning

And a shorter summer associate program. ----- While most of us celebrated Thanksgiving, some of Trump's phony U.S. Attorneys were the real turkeys. First, a conservative leaning panel of the Eleventh Circuit affirmed the million dollar sanctions against Donald Trump and the parking garage lawyer he claims to have running the District of New Jersey. Then his Eastern District cosplaying prosecutor managed to lose not one, but two of the high profile revenge cases she brought. In other news, a major firm announced a new look summer associate program as it tries to deal with the law school recruiting free-for-all that everyone hates, yet no one seems able to do anything about.

There's no two ways about it — Marjorie Taylor Greene's resignation came as a shock. She's leaving Congress at the start of the year, which means Republicans will immediately lose a vote they absolutely cannot spare. Governor Brian Kemp now has to call a special election, and even if he moves at the fastest pace legally possible, Georgia's replacement likely won't arrive until April or May. At that point we're deep into a cycle where dozens of House Republicans are juggling competitive reelection campaigns, statewide ambitions or both. Losing a seat now isn't a problem; losing a seat during the most politically fragile stretch of the year is a crisis. The fascinating part is how we got here. Greene was once one of Trump's fiercest and most loyal defenders, a political brawler who generated attention, small-dollar fundraising and cable hits. Her real institutional power, however, came from her alliance with Kevin McCarthy. When McCarthy fell, Greene's entire support structure collapsed with him. She wasn't able to transfer that leverage to Speaker Mike Johnson. In fact, her attempt to oust Johnson failed so publicly that it effectively isolated her. Add to that the now-infamous Tony Fabrizio polling memo — sent from the inside of Trumpworld directly to Greene herself — telling her she couldn't win statewide, and suddenly the relationship that once powered her rise curdled into animosity. Once Trump's giving you mean nicknames on a Truth Social post, it's pretty clear your days inside the tent are over.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. In the past few weeks, Greene has been everywhere—Real Time, The View, CNN—adopting a noticeably softer tone about political adversaries, including Nancy Pelosi. None of that happens by accident. And while no one close to her has confirmed anything, I can't shake the sense that she's plotting a pivot toward statewide office. The national rebrand won't work; she's too defined. But in a state like Georgia, where the Republican base still views her as a heroine and suburban women remain the barrier to statewide wins, maybe she sees a narrow path for a remade persona. Insiders I've spoken with don't think it's likely — but nobody dismisses it out of hand. After all, Georgia politics has delivered plenty of stranger twists than Marjorie Taylor Greene trying to run as a kinder, gentler insurgent.A Bad Week for DOJ: Sloppy Cases, Angry Allies and a Political CostWhile Greene was calculating her next chapter, the Trump administration's Department of Justice was stumbling through one of its most humiliating stretches since the start of the second term. Two high-profile cases—one targeting James Comey and another targeting New York Attorney General Letitia James—fell apart in spectacular fashion. The Comey case wasn't dismissed on a technicality; it was thrown out because the Department of Justice may not have even properly secured a grand jury indictment. Not good. And because of how the dismissal occurred, the case cannot be refiled. Comey is permanently in the clear. The Letitia James case was dismissed for different reasons, and that one can theoretically return — but in practice, it's now damaged and politically radioactive.Look. These cases were clearly pushed at the direction of Donald Trump himself. He said the quiet part out loud on Truth Social, publicly urging prosecutions of Comey, James and Adam Schiff before deleting the message. Trump wanted consequences for people he sees as political enemies. But wanting something and executing it competently are two very different things. And what happened here wasn't just sloppy — it undercut the credibility of his claim to be the only person who can “clean up the system.” If you're promising a more efficient, more disciplined government, you cannot afford your Justice Department to mishandle prosecutions this badly. This is also where the political costs begin to show. Punchbowl reported this week that Greene's resignation has other Republicans eyeing the exits. I've heard similar grumbling from people close to MAGA-aligned lawmakers: they feel neglected by the White House, shut out of decision-making, and deprived of the small wins that normally help hold a caucus together. On issues like Venezuela, they simply want explanations — and aren't getting them. Add the DOJ fiasco on top, and you have a governing coalition that increasingly feels taken for granted. The math is brutal: Republicans are two retirements away from losing the House majority outright. No one thinks a mass exodus is imminent, but the fact that the scenario has become a topic of conversation tells you how fragile the coalition is.The bottom line: if the Trump administration wants to restore confidence — inside the party and beyond — it can't afford more weeks like this. Competence matters. And right now, the DOJ is delivering the exact opposite.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:02:10 - Marjorie Taylor Greene00:11:02 - Rush Hour 4 (seriously)00:11:44 - DOJ's Bad Day00:16:38 - Are the Republicans in Trouble?00:19:39 - 2028 Picks with Gloria Young01:03:30 - Wrap-up This is a public episode.
