The Wildcards breach the tangled boughs of the Vale encountering dangers, some expected others mysterious… --- We've been playing this homebrew Dungeons and Dragons game for nearly 3 years, in the world of Vesaria. Veseria is a realm divided where our heroes, brought together by fate and divine influence, have become unlikely champions fighting against an evil force known as the Revenant Vow. The Revenant Vow are a cult of Asmodeus, King of the Nine, who's wish is to unseal the Gates of Hell and unleash its horrors and their devil lord upon the Material Plane. Our heroes have battled the Revenant Vow and the forces of Hell many times but despite their efforts, three of the four seals binding the gate shut have already been unleashed… We pick up now late in this high level campaign and are recording it for the first time as we go digital in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. But there are still many plots to foil and adventures to be had. So without further ado, welcome to Vesaria, and here are The Wildcards. --- Follow Hexplorers on Twitter https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_description&v=DuJGdtoCzXk&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbmZNeVVtYkxCdFZhTlFLRjNiYzByYWlOSHNHUXxBQ3Jtc0trTWpVOFVLcEhxMzlSZ0VUNmFUWEtFc1pQV216T0s5MEkxZjFWbmhOSnR2cWg1RlF0RkdLU3VfeXNoV2ZSUFVFNXVaQ09VVU5SNG9kNnBkN09DcWhvUjMwN0luZGNnRnUzUlA2bXZuNjFSWHRrNWkyNA%3D%3D&q=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FHexplorersDND (https://twitter.com/HexplorersDND) Watch us on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCThkKOiWuRZ0Qz0QYhXhSGA (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCThkKOiWuRZ0Qz0QYhXhSGA)

Outside the Green Room, we also did a little recording out in the crowd at the party level. Greg Jones of Whoa!Tiger jumps on the air to tell us about Tiger news and some of his solo projects as well, as Roberto relives some of his glory days. And we get up close with one of the city’s best artist, Amanda Keller of Keller Illustrations, and owner-operator of Indy Arty Party. We were a bit buzzed and energized but had a blast and can’t wait to do it again next summer. A weekend of live music and friends all for such an incredibly cause. It should be a “must go” on everyone’s calendar each summer. We ended the day of recording as 800lb Gorilla took the main stage so we had to once again end another episode with a tune from their newest album, Commander Wax. Get waxed! Cheers! Shout outs in this episode include: Moxxie; Hop your Face; Terry Valde; Veseria; and Villainous
Veseria is a great 4 piece rock band from Indianapolis. I am a big fan and was excited to talk to Patrick about the band and the new album, RLTVTY.
Lazy Show Notes
One thing we've talked about on this show is how tight-knit certain branches of the Indy music family tree are. I first stumbled on The Farewell Audition by way of No Pit Cherries to Veseria to Verdant Vera to Audiodacity, etc. These are bands that, in my opinion are pure class in the way that they show up to each others' shows, turn their fans on to each others' bands, and in general really go the extra mile to help promote and grow the scene. These efforts aren't lost on outsiders, and I've had more than one out of town band remark on how it's amazing that musicians in Indianapolis are really starting to work as a unit, while Los Angeles, Chicago, and other markets are rife with stores about bands tearing down other bands' flyers, stealing members, sabotaging shows, etc. Makes me feel good about what we've got going on here. The Farewell Audition features songs that are well within the sphere of alternative rock/pop with tinges of angry punk, but at the same time has playful touches of cerebral musicality that give it epic overtones without crossing that fine line into self-indulgence that is common among academically trained musicians. While the songs often contain little complexities and in-jokes for the music theory savvy, the band is constantly aware during the writing process of when they may have gone to far, and when they need to scale back to avoid losing the broader appeal. Definitely a very smart listen for anyone looking a new band to sink their ears into. Links referenced in the show: The Farewell Audition can be found here | | | | You can get their latest tracks via , , or . The first song, Tyler Durden, is a reference to the Chuck Palahniuk and Fight Club. Bassist Tommy Grant and guitarist Jason Easy also play for the band . Pink Floyd is named for blues players and -- yes, I had to look that up. The Farewell Audition placed second in the 2011 . Sadly they only made the second round in 2012. They played their first show at the now defunct . There is a dirth of prog bands in this city, though we have interviewed and (and hope to get in here some day). The Farewell Audition have been known to play the . Who knew there was live, original music downtown?
Things are starting to run a little more smoothly around here, finally. Managed to get through this interview without any technical problems ... well, okay that one little issue where I forgot to cut in the live board until halfway through the opening song, but at least, this time, it was the opening song, and not an obscure Frank Zappa track. So ... progress. The station itself continues to gain traction with listeners. I've had instances now of bands saying that they've had people walk up to them at shows saying they hear them on Indy In-Tune and wanted to come out and see them live ... and this is all I ask of you listeners in terms of support. Meanwhile the podcast, which was intended to fill the radio audience has actually seen a very steady uptick in downloads, this after a couple of years of anemic to no growth. Finally, I've had more than one company come to me asking about sponsorship opportunities, which as you know is the best way to improve the quality of the services we offer and get Flo from Progressive off our station once and for all (the companies in question are both at least of interest to local music fans and local musicians). The next step, however, is to get some padded coasters for the bar/mixing console -- for those of you who are audiophiles, I apologize for the "ambiance" of the last three interviews. For the rest of you, just listen to the voices and the pretty background music, because once you hear it, it never gets out of your head. Which brings me to this week's guest, Veseria. I think the interview goes without saying that I love these guys, both their music and their personalities. The music is a delightful, auditory journey through raw emotion and unrestrained passions that alternates between delicate and hard-edged; poetic and profane; simplistic and multi-layered. The personalities are unbridled, witty, and generally a lot of fun to be around. We had a great time shooting the breeze, spinning a couple of tunes, and tilting back a few beverages. So much so, in fact, that we kept the mics rolling for the benefit of the live audience, inaugurating what I am now calling "Indy In-Tune After Dark," which an even-less-scripted dive into the deep cuts and the sorts of stories that, if they are to be told, they are not to be permanently archived. So it pays, from now on, to watch the social media feeds and listen live instead of waiting for the podcast, eh? Links referenced in the show: Veseria can be found here: | | | Their latest LP, Cities Made of Gin, can be found at the usual suspects | | . The band formed from the remnants of , if you guys remember them from a couple of years ago. The album was recorded by Doug Miller at for . Though I don't usually give corporate endorsements, it should be noted that this is not the first band to appear on the show that consists of multiple employees from . Can you name another one? Veseria credits Elvis Meyers, of the former with giving them their first break in the local scene. They are currently working with Will at and have nothing but nice things to say about the experience. Though Veseria turned down the opportunity to play one of the headlining spots, they have agreed to come out and party with us at the at Birdy's on August 31.
