Kammy's Kause, an annual event now in its 20th year, continues to make a significant impact in the community, bringing together people for a cause that supports individuals with rare chromosome disorders. The event was founded by Jared and his daughter Kammy, who has a rare chromosome disorder known as 4P- syndrome, also referred to as Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. This year's event features a two-day lineup. On Friday night, an acoustic night on Main Street in Fortville will showcase over 20 acoustic musicians performing inside businesses and on sidewalks, in a style reminiscent of Nashville's live music scene. The main event on Saturday includes Kammy's Ride, a motorcycle ride now in its 15th year, as well as full bands, a Kid Zone, and a silent auction at Landmark Park. All activities are free to attend, with donations encouraged to support the cause.Kammy's Kause was created to raise awareness and fund research for 4P- syndrome, providing resources and support to families facing similar diagnoses. Over the past 20 years, the event has grown to become the largest of its kind globally, offering much-needed assistance to families worldwide. The funds raised go directly to research and the 4P- Support Group, which has helped change the landscape for families dealing with the disorder.Kammy, now a vibrant and spirited young woman, was initially given a bleak prognosis at birth, but has defied expectations, showcasing her lively personality and zest for life. The event not only celebrates her journey but also supports others navigating similar challenges. For more information on Kammy's Kause and how to participate, visit KammysCause.org.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Jay and Captain Keith discuss MF DOOM and Ecstasy of the group Whodini (No music version!) Same great discussion but with no music inserted! Jay and Captain Keith have a discussion about two great MC's who has both made great contributions to hip-hop. R.I.P to MF Doom and the Ecstasy from the Golden age Brooklyn based hip hop group Whodini! MF Doom/Daniel Dumile (July 13, 1971 – October 31, 2020), best known by his stage name MF Doom or simply Doom (both stylized in all caps), was a British-American rapper and record producer. Noted for his intricate wordplay, signature metal mask, and "supervillain" stage persona, Dumile became a major figure of underground hip hop in the 2000s. After his death, Variety described him as one of the scene's "most celebrated, unpredictable and enigmatic figures". KMD (Kausing Much Damage, or A positive Kause in a Much Damaged society) was an American hip hop trio active in the early 1990s. The core of the group was composed of brothers Daniel "Zev Love X" and Dingilizwe "DJ Subroc" Dumile. The group is best known for launching the career of Zev Love X, who later became MF Doom. The group's original third member, Rodan, left before the group signed with Elektra Records; he was replaced with Onyx the Birthstone Kid. The group disbanded in 1993 after the sudden death of DJ Subroc and the subsequent decision by Elektra to drop the group from their label. KMD released two studio albums, Mr. Hood (1991) and Black Bastards, with the latter originally recorded in 1993 but not officially released until 2001 due to its cancellation by Elektra. Whodini is an American hip hop group that was formed in 1982. The Brooklyn, New York-based trio consisted of vocalist and main lyricist Jalil Hutchins; co-vocalist John Fletcher, a.k.a. Ecstasy (who wore a Zorro-style hat as his trademark); and turntable artist DJ Drew Carter, a.k.a. Grandmaster Dee. Coming out of the fertile New York rap scene of the early '80s, Whodini was one of the first rap groups to add R&B twist to their music, thus laying the foundation for a new genre - new jack swing. The group made its name with good-humored songs such as "Magic's Wand" (the first rap song accompanied by a video), "The Haunted House of Rock", "Friends", "Five Minutes of Funk" and "Freaks Come Out at Night". Live performances of the group were the first rap concerts with the participation of breakdance dancers from the group UTFO. Russell Simmons was the manager of the group in the '80s. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/moviebenchquarterbacking/message

With more and more scientists, students, and protesters calling attention to climate change, why aren't these warnings having a greater impact on our everyday decisions and actions? In this episode we talk with Astrid Kause, Post-Doctoral Researcher with the Centre for Decision Research at the University of Leeds, about how people understand and trust information related to climate change. Specializing in the science of communication, Astrid shares some insights about ways that we can affect this understanding through communication. We discuss some of the key differences between communicating climate risks and others types of risk, and just how difficult it can be to translate this information into something that we can relate to and understand. As we explore different examples of communicating climate risks to inform everyday decision making, we also ask what is the role of the scientific community in supporting the public to take action around climate change.

Cowboy, Dougy Fresh, and Paulie Gee(e's are silent) are back one again to graciously cover this amazing two-day music festival and benefit. The event that started back in 2004 for one very special girl is now bringing families and friends from across America and beyond for a weekend of celebration and to bring awareness and more support for those affected by 4p-, also known as Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome (WHS), an extremely rare chromosome disorder. As always, the Pigs bring their own brand of silly, laid back fun to cover Kammy's Kause, without forgetting the heartfelt reason why they are there. Helping to co-host the event is the beautiful Sara Bishop and the Pigs' personal bodyguard, Griswold Stout. Tune in to Part One as they are joined by numerous band members and friends who come out each year to play music and give their time throughout the year to support Kammy and the 4p- Support Group. A big thanks for those who jumped on a mic to talk about why this event is so special to them as well as what's going on with their respective bands, Mr. Zach Garner, Chris Sarber and David Charles Bailey of Pinky and The Basterds, and Ben Jarvis of Audiodacity. The boys had a great time, once again, being part of the Kammy's Kause family and talking to friends and supporters and they give a shout out and request to their fans in Lebanon. Be sure to stay tuned for the release of Part Two when they are joined by more band members and the very busy, father and Kammy's Kause founder, Mr. Jared Hiner. Outside the Green Room, we also did a little recording out in the crowd at the party level. Greg Jones of Whoa!Tiger jumps on the air to tell us about Tiger news and some of his solo projects as well, as Roberto relives some of his glory days. And we get up close with one of the city’s best artist, Amanda Keller of Keller Illustrations, and owner-operator of Indy Arty Party. We were a bit buzzed and energized but had a blast and can’t wait to do it again next summer. A weekend of live music and friends all for such an incredibly cause. It should be a “must go” on everyone’s calendar each summer. We ended the day of recording as 800lb Gorilla took the main stage so we had to once again end another episode with a tune from their newest album, Commander Wax. Get waxed! Cheers! Shout outs in this episode include: Moxxie; Hop your Face; Terry Valde; Veseria; and Villainous
Event sponsor, Benjamin Cannon, of Spark Joy Music kicks off Part II of this special episode from the Hops & Hertz Festival at the Fountain Square Brewery. Ben works his way through the details of this incredible, inaugural, live music and craft beer festival dedicated to discovering great city talent, while putting up with a slightly inebriated Cowboy. The boys discuss their own recent discoveries in music, where they go to find music today, the Manson Family, and Jack White(the Jamie Jackson of Indy). Jeff Kelly joins the round table once again, along with one the best guitar pickers in the city, John Fell, to talk about The Graveyard Shift. Jeff also tells all you need to know about knitting(maybe too much). Fountain Square partner, Jeff Gibson, has a brew with the boys to tell all that’s going on and what to look forward to at the brewery. The day is rounded out nicely with the sweaty clan from Mr. Clit and the Pink Cigarettes after a rousing set on the inside stage. A great day of live music and always great beer at Fountain Square Brewery. The boys can’t wait to cover this fantastic event again next summer. Cheers! Shout outs in this episode include: Dietrich Jon; Chris Burch; Musical Family Tree; Square Cat Vinyl; Indy In-Tune and Radiothon; Mina & The Wondrous Flying Machine; Kammy’s Kause; and a special thanks to 800lb Gorilla for the use of their tune, Radboy, from their new album to end today’s show. Be sure to catch those cats live!
We had the special pleasure of being invited to coved Kammy's Kause this year on it's opening night. We couldn't have been more humbled being part of this incredibly annual two day live music event for such a great cause. We had a blast from moment we stepped into the American Legion park and it just kept getting better as the afternoon and evening flew by, much to quickly. Ben Jarvis of Audiodacity has a brew with the boys before going on stage and tells a little about the work they have going on with their upcoming 2nd album. The man who can be miserable in any situation(yet has impeccable hygiene), Ryan M. Brewer jumps on board and things go from weird to He Man and Captain Planet talk. Of course we had to have the man who put this all together, Mr. Jared Hiner, for his beautiful daughter, Kammy. We couldn't believe how calm and cool this cat could be with so much going on around us, but he has so much support from family, friends, and musicians in and around Indy, he can now enjoy this amazing event he's built. And we round out the show with our new friends from 800lb Gorilla after their amazing set. They give some backstory on who they are and we talk about their upcoming album, Commander Wax. They let use a couple of their tunes to kick off and end this episode, so be sure crank it up and join us at their album release party on October 13th at the Fountain Square Brewing Co. Lots of great conversation and some great beers were destroyed over the afternoon including some splendid brews from Central State Brewing, Flix Brewhouse(who also sponsored Kammy's Kause), and Taxman Brewing Company. Tune in! Cheers!! Shout outs in this episode include: Hop Your Face; 18th Street Brewery; Whoa!Tiger; Brother O' Brother; Chris Burch, and Ben Cannon
Part two of our rockin' day at the annual, outdoor, live music and craft beer festival at the Grand Junction Brewing Co. beings with our good buddy Justin of Indiana On Tap, the sponsors of day's festivities. These guys know how to put on a grand scale show. We talk a little of what's going on with On Tap, including last Saturday's wildly fun, Jockey Box Hero, which featured one Mr. William Hung . . . and Cowboy. Big props given in this segment to the guys over at the Moontown Brewing Company who are working diligently in opening their brewery to the public. We get to spend some quality time with our boy, Shawn Kessel of Taxman Brewing Company who gives us the squeeze on sweat, blood, and beer. His wife also announced she is taking inquiries to sell a pretty amazing home brew system(Don't tell Shawn), after the Pigs brew with him first. Such a great event put on by the folks of Indiana On Tap and of course the place we always rave about, Grand Junction Brewing Co. We can't wait till next year to do it again. But don't wait till then to partake of some of the best brews in the state. Get your butts to Grand Junction today. Tell 'em the Pigs sent ya. Cheers! http://www.grandjunctionbrewing.com/ http://www.indianaontap.com/ Shout outs in this episode include: Brew Link Brewing; 18th Street Brewing; Nikki Reed; Josh Springer and Bottoms UP Beer; The Hatch; Whitestown Brew Fest 2017; Mitchell Roelecke of Scarlet Lane Brewing Company; Oaken Barrel Brewing Co.; and Kammy's Kause 2017 - Come by and see us TONIGHT and party all weekend at Kammy's Kause!
The Pigs hit the airwaves to sponsor and cover a fantastic live music and craft beer festival at Fountain Square Brewery, the second of five Discovery Music events sponsored by Spark Joy Music and Musical Family Tree. Non stop, high energy talent hit the stages at noon and didn’t stop till after midnight. We started off the day with a quick visit from Grover, followed by Aaron from Musical Family Tree. We were all a bit ashamed to not know more about this non-profit organization doing so much for the music scene in and around Indy. Aaron educates us on the Family Tree as well as a little about her own band and where they can be found. Fountain Square’s, Luke Nelson joins the boys once again to tell us about the beer on hand at the event, as well as one made especially for Jackie Martinez, and what’s brewing in the upcoming future. We end Part One with a very special visit from Mr. Jared Hiner, the man behind Kammy’s Kause. We know all our fans in Indy know all about this incredible yearly event, but for those outside Indy not familiar yet, Jared goes into great detail about his organization, the upcoming event to benefit families dealing with 4p-, also known as Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome (WHS), an extremely rare chromosome disorder, and his beautiful daughter, Kammy, who is the inspiration for it all. The Pigs were invited to cover the 14th Annual Kammy’s Kause, the two day music festival coming up on August 18th - 20th at the Fortville American Legion Park. This year’s event includes: Kammy’s Kidzone, Kammy’s Ride, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, balloon artists, bounce houses, live art, food trucks, 27 midwest bands, silent auKtion, merchandise, great people, free camping (tents only) and parking. Some people complain about them, some people love them, but for those of you who haven't figured it out yet, these "... Returns" shows should really just be called "Darrin shoots the breeze with his buddies," because -- since all of the obligatory biographical information/stock questions have been covered -- they tend to get personal, off-topic, and are really just excuses to hang around, drink beer, and play some new music. You know, the same kind of stuff we would be doing even if there weren't mics in front of us. This week's episode, featuring long-time friend of the show Chad Mills, is no exception, doubly so since it is also reinforced by the ubiquitous presence of Ms. Jenn Cristy, who just happened to be playing on stage with Chad that night -- thus activating the clause in her contract that legally binds us to give her a mic whenever she's in a five mile radius of a show taping. So, enough with the deep, philosophical stuff; to heck with the in-depth analysis of the subtle ironic and thematic elements in Chad's lyrics; forget discussions of his dreams and aspirations as a struggling independent musician. What we really want to know about are fish in beer mugs and how annoying that Alicia Keys song really is. That said, Chad Mills is really starting to piss me off. Why isn't this guy famous yet!? Hell, why isn't he at least touring the "Midwest State Fair Circuit" and getting his music heard outside of a 100-mile radius? It's not for lack of being busy, he plays around 150 shows a year. Certainly it's not because his material isn't accessible, I firmly believe Make the Door should be a hit, or at least a wildly successful novelty song in the vein of "Cover of the Rolling Stone" that is revered on college radio stations around the country. It certainly isn't because he isn't loved in Indianapolis, he commanded probably the largest crowd I've ever seen at Birdy's on the night of his CD release party -- a reported 250 in attendance, not counting the myriad special guests who joined him on stage for what turned out to be, in my humble opinion, the performance of his life. "Make the door" is one of those albums that you have no excuse for not liking, as it easily caters to the pop, folk, country, and indie fan alike. For this release, Chad showcases his whole spectrum, offering up stripped down singer/songwrater fare with tracks like "Dusk" and "Long Winter Stretch," bouncy toe-tappers like "The Line" and "600 North 600 West," introspective story songs like "Moving Manhattan," pure poetry like "Chemical Hymn," burning jams like "On my Way" and just plain fun singalongs like the aforementioned title track, and ... well, I could go on, but it's probably best that you just buy the album and hear it for yourself. What you're getting on this show is just a sampling of what's in store for you. Okay, so let me explain what's going on in this one, since obviously, it's sort of a unique show and probably won't make any sense outside of its context. This is the fifth of five segments recorded at Kammy's Kause '09. The slot was originally scheduled for Original State of Mind, and was to be recorded just moments after they walked off stage from their final performance. In retrospect, that might have been somewhat ambitious. Some of the members left immediately after the set, others had disappeared into the crowd with their friends and fans, others were really just basking in the end of an era and didn't particularly feel like doing an interview -- can't really fault them for that. As I was learning all this, I was approached by former member Mike Potempa (who also serves as Kammy's Kause's stage manager and master of ceremonies). Mike offered up the idea of a parody interview with the John Stockton Project -- I don't suppose that I'm divulging any show biz secrets when I reveal that the JSP is really Mike "MC Scrapiorn" Potempa and Jared "Sue" Hiner, playing mostly for laughs. I was a bit hesitant at first. I actually love the JSP concept, but they didn't have anything recorded at the time, and in fact only had three songs and no real history as a band to speak of. However, I also love the proverbial "shoot the breeze with your friends" shows, and I love Mike and Jared (who are quality musicians and genuinely funny personalities), so we decided to grab some of their friends from the crowd, go finish off the last of the beer in my cooler, and completely improvise something. One of those friends from the crowd is Jenn Cristy, who recently finished up her Hotel Confessions album and joins us as part co-host/part guest (since dedicating another hour to her would truly expose me as the rabid fanboy that I am). This marks her fifth appearance on the show, and solidifies her lead in the face of rumors about Ryan Shore making a fourth appearance with Five 'Til Dawn in the not-too-distant future. Finally we wrap up with a conversation with Jared Hiner, out of character, discussing the present and future of Kammy's Kause, and acknowledging the great people and organizations that continue to grow the festival and make it successful year after year. Also ... fair warning here ... "portions" of this episode (most notably the lyrics to the song "Boner in a Strip Club") are not fit for younger viewers or people who are easily offended by off-color humor. You have been warned. Links referenced in the show: The John Stockton Project can be found here: | | . Jenn Cristy can be found here: | | | | . She also appeared as a guest on and , and was a guest host on a few other shows. Consult the search feature on Indy In-Tune for her complete appearance list. Jenn's brand new CD, Hotel Confessions, is available at , , , and the other usual suspects. Jared Hiner first appeared with his band Original State of Mind back on . Jared would like to thank the following sponsors for making a success story that grows every year. Paul Elmer and Bob Ewing and Brian Beaver Laura Duncan and in Bloomington Apologies for the deception, but I really wasn't in Studio B when I recorded the outro babble. I was actually in the car. I thought I could get away with it, but the audio quality was noticeably bad. Sorry. and Indy In-Tune are proud to present the first (hopefully annual) "Virtual Battle of the Bands." Band submissions are due in the month of December, voting and judging is through the month of January. So far, over $1000 in cash and prizes is on the line, with that purse expected to grow as we try to bring on sponsors. Check out our for details as they become available.
Our series of five shows from Kammy's Kause 2009 continues this week with a visit from Landon Keller. This one was a bit of a surprise. I had not actually heard of Landon before seeing the schedule for this year's show ... to say nothing of his music. I had checked around with some of the people behind the scenes, and most described him as, "Oh, some guy. We saw his show at such-in-such a place. Good stuff, and he was really super cool, so we invited him to come out and play." Okay, not that there are ever any bad bands on the Kammy's Kause schedule, but Landon and band are a heck of a lot more than advertised. About three bars into his first number, it was pretty obvious they had chops, and while the smooth grove style sounds simple, it takes a degree of precision and competence that only a few bands can pull off with the consistency and confidence that these guys do. Landon's show dates (that we could find) are a bit sparse at the moment, but with one album down and another coming in the next few months, you still have plenty to sing along with. Continuing on with our series of returning guests, and our series from Kammy's Kause 2009, we welcome back Blue Moon Revue, an uber-talented rock, funk, and blues-based band -- originally from Bloomington, Indiana -- out of Chicago that is currently making inroads into the regional midwest scene. Despite a few lineup and style shifts over the years, these guys are tight, energetic, and did I mention uber-talented? On a side note, we would like to welcome all of our new listeners who are hearing Indy In-Tune for the first time, courtesy of , who will be airing the show Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings at 9:00 PM. We sincerely appreciate this opportunity to get Indiana (and in this case midwest regional) independent music out there to the masses. As you guys aren't local, you're off the hook for attending the live shows, but we still expect you to spread the word (and maybe pick up a CD or two) in your own area as we continue our struggle to bring independent music to the masses. Links referenced in the show: Blue Moon Revue Can Be Found Here: | | | | | . The were last heard on Indy In-Tune . Ahhh, festival season. My favorite time of year -- Wunurth, Muncie Musicfest, The Battle of Birdy's, Oranje, Little Turtle, and my personal favorite (well, now that Circlefest is no more, yeah, THANKS Laura): Kammy's Kause. Every year at the end of summer, some of the finest musicians from Indy, Chicago, Louisville, and everywhere in between rally behind Jared Hiner (Original State of Mind, ) and help him raise money and awareness for Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (Chromosome 4p- disorder) and his daughter Kammy. For me, it's become an annual reunion and chance to catch up with old friends ... like the Shadyside All-Stars, who have kicked off both of our Kammy's Kause series thus far, and once again prove themselves to be the undisputed champions of interview chaos generation. I'm always skeptical when what is essentially a live, somewhat improvisation-based band goes into the studio to capture their sound in a recording. Invariably, phrases like "paired down" and "specially arranged" get thrown out, which usually translate to "removed the magic moments" and "took out the energy." This is not the case with the debut CD from Shadyside Allstars -- possibly because they had more magic moments and energy than the average band when they went in, I'm not sure. Their debut CD is an excellent representation of what these guys are capable of in a live setting, fine tuned and with just a little added polish (this is a permanent record and subject to over-scrutinizing, remember). While it can never equal the enjoyment of attending the spectacle of their live shows (and maybe putting a little of your hard-earned money into "Head") it's great for those cold late autumn/early winter evenings when you're home alone because the Allstars are on their holiday break. It's definitely worth clicking on the link below and ordering yourself a copy. Yeah, I'm not sure what I was drinking during this recording -- in fact, I don't remember drinking much at all until after we were done -- but there seems to be an unusually happy vibe about it compared to the last couple I've edited. Possibly this is the slap-happy result of the podcasting marathon you're about to hear in the upcoming weeks between the 8 Seconds shows, Kammy's Kause, September to Remember, et al. It could also be that, after eight or nine shows in the same two locations, it was good to get out and do something different. I've recorded these in bars, restaurants, coffee shops, studios, and even the back of a van once, but this would be the first done on the hood of my car in a parking lot. Either way, this week's guest is a good one. Dead Man's Grill is one of those up-and-coming hard rock/metal bands currently making waves at many of the same contests and battles that I've been engrossed in for the past two months. Their high-energy stage show, uncommon sound, and solid original tunes are getting attention and have more than a few people talking. Subsequent to recording this episode, they won the 8 Seconds Rock Battle, largely based on their rabid, and tastefully-dressed fan base. Can a repeat win at the Battle of Birdy's be far away? Indy In-Tune is about to release it's fiftieth episode. Fifty! Though you're not supposed to make a big deal about these things by doing the obligatory clip show or whatever, I can't help but take just a little breather here. Fifty! That's That's 3000 minutes of material; 139 different musicians; 181 songs; 2.4 Gigabytes of MP3 goodness; and I don't even want to begin to think how many hours of editing. On the other end of the spectrum, Crossroad Resonances is about to release it's fifth episode. Having been there, let me tell you that #5 is a lot harder than #50 to get out. By the fifth episode, most podcasters are just coming out of the learning curve and self-conscious criticism phase and entering into the a malaise that I generally refer to simply as: "Is anybody listening to this?" It seemed only natural that, seeing as how we were both at the same bar with a bunch of recording equipment, some musician friends, a bunch of beers, and time to kill, that we try to energize both our respective shows by doing a "Crossover Cast." This is the end result -- a show that is a bit more talky than Crossroad Resonances; contains a bit more variety than Indy In-Tune; and is hopefully still fun to listen to for you guys. If response is good, we hope to do a couple more of these during the year (most-likely when we've got something we need to cross-promote or when we happen to bump into each other at a show or something). In honor of Indy In-Tune's 50th episode, many of the tracks on this show feature former Indy In-Tune guests in something of a "Where are they now?" format, as well as appearances by some artists that will likely be featured on both Indy In-Tune and Crossroad Resonances in the near future. After a marathon seven shows recorded in one day in the chilly outdoors at Kammy's Kause (not that I didn't thoroughly enjoy myself) talking to what was largely a collection of jam bands, we're going to change things up this week. The thing I found particularly fun about this show is that, not only is it a new location and new genre of music we've not yet featured on the show, but also a genre that, by my own admission, I really don't know much about, so the experience proved to be an educational one for me. Donnell and Vincent are immigrants to the Indianapolis scene, hailing from Detroit and Chicago respectively, and bring a unique approach to combining their hip hop roots with the more soulful, R&B vocal tones that are their passion. In doing so they have created some fantastic, accessible music, but at the same time alienated themselves and caused some controvercy among the purists in their circles. Joining them on this interview is Perry Stevens, owner and chief engineer at Snapjoint Studios, who is producing and managing the band as the make their ascent to greater things. In keeping with the free-form spirit of the interview, I've done very few edits this week, keeping a lot of the tangents, outtakes, and jokes that fell flat. As such, this show carries and "explicit" tag and may contain humor that some of you will find offensive; others will find hilarious. What can I say? This is the last of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit. Pretty much by this point I'm wired for speed on coffee, freezing my butt off, and somewhat punchy as we creep into the late hours of the night. In all, it was a great day, filled with excellent music, great people, tasty food, and a lot of fun doing my first marathon podcasting session. I'm looking foward to going back next year and trying to hit both nights. Original State of Mind is a tight knit, structured band with the sensibilities and improvisational skills of a jam band and successfully bridges both of those worlds and creates a sound that appeals to both camps of fans. As the interview shows, off-stage they are a tight knit bunch with a great deal of respect for each other's talents and skills, with each member of the band bringing something to the table that makes the whole greater than the sum of it's parts. Links referenced in the show: Original State of Mind can be found here: | . Their first CD, Fresh Cut Grass, is available at their live shows and on their web site. This is the fifth of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit and features Northwest Indiana singer/songwriter/musician Josh Holmes. Along with being the infamous triple threat (possibly quadruple -- I don't know for sure if he dances or not), Josh has some innovative, interesting ideas concerning grass-roots marketing tactics. So innovative, in fact, that he's actually gotten radio exposure in serveral out of state markets all over the country, including charting in Hawaii, and having his music featured on national television. I must admit, one-on-one interviews like this always make me nervous. With a full band, I can generally sit back, say very little, and let the guests play off of each other. Single guests require a great deal of research, preparation, and planning to determine what topics and questions are going to be most interesting to the audience as well as the interviewee. Fortunately, Josh is a very easy interview who displays a great deal of natural wit, intelligence, and charm as he talks us through four excellent tracks from his last two releases. This is the third of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit and features singer/songwriter Chad Mills and percussionist Bob Stewart. Chad is interesting in that he is, by day, an engineer -- not exactly a job that affords you very many opportunities to be creative, as certainly the laws of physics are somewhat rigid to say the least. Both Chad and Bob are talented musicians who talk at length about their musical history together, the trials and tribulations of extremely brief encounters with random females, and the pros and cons of blowing off work to write music. This is the fourth of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit and features the Louisville, KY Digby -- no thanks to who seemed to enjoy itself eating my edits and choking on the completed file ... twice. As I stated in the show, this has to go down in my top three favorite shows, if nothing else, for the tangents. This is the second of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit (and apparently the fifth and final in a series of bands whose name begins with the letter 'S'). I have to admit I was somewhat nervous about this one. They didn't seem to have any biographical information I could research ahead of time, I missed about half of their set to record Show #021 (If you pay attention, you can in fact hear Say playing in the background all through the ), and even MC Mike Potempa, who had been introducing me to the bands that day, could only offer, "I really don't know anything about those guys. They seem really quiet." Death knell for a podcast ... or so I thought. As interviews go however, these guys were among the easiest to work with. As unprepared interviews go, I think they were pretty friggin' awesome -- a very intelligent, prepared, down-to-earth group of guys who have great stories, quick wits, and some excellent music that they shared with us. By way of quick review: Their debut CD, Cornfields to Concrete is a wickedly diverse collection of seven tracks that has a little something for everyone. Hip hop, funk, strait-ahead rock, acoustic folk, are all represented ... and represented well. Sadly my own personal track, a slow, bluesy, almost swing-lounge style number called "Baroness" is not represented in this podcast, though it does now feature heavily in my personal "Best of Indianapolis" playlist. Important links from the show: Say can be found on the Internet here: / The debut CD, Cornfields to Concrete can be found on and iTunes, or can be purchased directly from the band. This is the first of seven shows recorded on September 15th at the Kammy's Kause benefit, and as I explained in the outrobabble, it's a long one. Unfortunately, there was a lot of great music, one hilarious interview, and a lot of supplemental material to cover, and I would rather go long than cut any of that great stuff out. I promise, the rest of this series will be back in our 45-60 minute format. The Shadyside Allstars are a group of virtuoso musicians who play a very tight style of improvisational, "jam band" music. As such, they have built a huge following not only here in Indianapolis, but also around the rest of the midwest where they regularly play small and large venues as well as festivals. As a further word of warning, portions of this podcast are probably not suitable for more sensitive ears ... I don't think it's quite as potentially offensive as, say, the average interview with ... but certainly it's somewhere between PG-13 and R, hence the explicit tag -- and the disclaimer we stuck at the end of the interview. Either way, you have been warned. Important links from the show: The Shadyside Allstars can be found on the Interet here: / Additional tracks from the band not included on this podcast are available in the on their web site. Yes, please do not panic because I've managed to put out an unprecedented two shows in a row. There are still eight more to go before I'm allowed to lose steam. The fact is, I had to start editing up these things because, owing to the size of a raw audio file and the fact that I back each one up in triplicate, I've managed to fill up just about every hard drive I've got, and quite frankly, can't install "Tiberium Wars" until I get rid of some of these things. This week's guest, Jenn Cristy, is a talented multi-instrumentalist as well as a fantastic singer/songwriter. Many of you will remember her from her appearance on "that Mellencamp guy's" grammy-nominated album, "Cuttin' Heads," as well as it's subsequent international tour. (John, however, is from Seymour, which has been ruled to be outside of the metro area, thus he doesn't qualify to be on "Indianapolis" In-Tune.) Frankly, when I drove down to Bloomington to meet Jenn (Bloomington, by the way, does count -- my show; my rules), I didn't know quite what to expect, but I'm now happy to report that she definitely lives up to her motto: "A lit'l less diva ... a lit'l more rock." As the interview shows, she is in fact, a warm, funny, and very genuine person who I really can't say enough nice things about. So, I suppose I'll just let this week's show speak for itself. As an aside, before I catch flak from the Amy Fishburn fans in the audience, yes, I do refer to Jenn as "our first female guest." Amy's interview was, in fact, recorded a couple weeks after this one, even though it was released first. So I suppose we'll put an asterisk in the record book next to that particular piece of trivia.Links referenced in the show: Jenn Cristy can be found here: / .
