I've been doing intermittent fasting, well, intermittently for a few years now and have found that for me personally, it helps me eat intuitively and clears my brain fog. However, I've been hesitant to talk about it on the podcast because I know it isn't a lifestyle that works for everyone, but when a listener recommended author Gin Stephens as a guest I knew that she was the right person to tackle this tricky subject.    Gin, who's written multiple bestsellers on clean eating and intermittent fasting, doesn't promote the lifestyle as a weight loss strategy or make any claims that it can “cure” your ADHD or anything like that; rather, she focuses on the research into the gut-brain connection and how what and when we eat affects our mood, our immune systems, our cognitive functioning, and our cravings, among many other things.   In this episode, Gin gives a great breakdown of what intermittent fasting is, the science behind it, and how to ease into it responsibly. We also talk about metabolic syndrome, how to find the foods that work best for your body, and much more. Again, intermittent fasting isn't right for everyone, but if you're curious to learn more about it, come join our conversation. Three children and one divorce later, Courtney found herself at 250 pounds. In 2018, Courtney found IF through Facebook and began with a 20:4 protocol. Two years later, IF felt hard and Courtney decided to reassess her IF journey. She decided to focus on the health aspects of IF instead of a size. Her goal is to be active and to feel her best! The Flight Attendant is back, well it's been back, I recorded this when it released. It was another great season with more twists and turns. If you haven't watched this show, I highly recommend it. It is available to stream on HBO/HBO Max. Sadly there isn't a drinking game available yet, but feel free to send suggestions in. I should really come up with rules for the show sometime. For those of you who don't know, the show's synopsis is about a reckless flight attendant with an alcoholism problem wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man - and no idea what happened. Unable to piece the night together, she begins to wonder if she could be the killer. For season 2...Cassie is living her best life in Los Angeles, has a supportive new boyfriend, and moonlights as a CIA asset. When her latest assignment makes her an eyewitness to a murder, Cassie becomes entangled in another international mystery. Aviation: Ingredients 2 oz of Gin 1/2 oz Maraschino Liqueur 1/4 oz Creme de Violette 3/4 oz Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed Garnish: Brandied Cherry Directions Add the gin, maraschino liqueur, creme de violet and lemon juice to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Lyn found Intermittent Fasting in 2016, when her teaching assistant challenged her to give it a try. Lyn was almost 250 pounds and diabetic, and knew she needed to do something. In her first year, she dropped an astounding 88 pounds and became more active. Because of the changes she has made, Lyn is no longer diabetic and has alleviated the back and joint pain associated with her weight. That doesn't mean the path has been without bumps along the way, however. Gin and Lyn discuss how life's challenges may affect our long-term IF journey, and how IF continues to make a positive impact despite life's stresses and stages. Lyn's advice: “It's ok to take your time with IF and move slow. In this week's episode, Gin Stephens and I talk about her book Clean(ish) which is an informative guide about cleaning up your food and home environment without becoming overly dogmatic or fixated on an unattainable level of perfection. The more we can minimize the toxins that we put in and on our body, the less it has to struggle to stay healthy and maintain optimal weight. Most people don't realize how modern toxins (things our ancestors didn't have to deal with) interfere with our hormones and promote fat accumulation.

She struggled with her weight from the time she was a child, and was put on her first diet in middle school. This led to decades of fad diets, tracking, and calorie restriction. Stacy would lose the weight but always gain it back. Stacy's health began to suffer as her weight climbed. She was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and she felt terrible. Her weight had reached an all-time high of 250 pounds. Stacy began her official clean fast IF journey in December of 2020. She immediately felt better, and knew IF was the answer! Stacy has lost more than fifty pounds, but focuses on her health more than a number on the scale. Her relationship with food has healed, and she is happy and healthy! Stacy's advice: “Live your life and your journey. Let the IF lifestyle develop. If you haven't taken “before” pictures, take “right now” ones. Give yourself grace.” Get Gin's books at: http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including Cleanish and New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Feast. Repeat., available wherever you buy books!
