Study Guide Chagigah 2 Masechet Chagigah is sponsored in honor of Debra Rappaport Rosen by her family on the occasion of her finishing Shas at the end of this Masechet. “We are in awe at her incredible achievement of finishing all of Shas! Her seven-plus years of dedication and focus set a remarkable example and serve as a bold inspiration to our family and to Jewish women around the world. Our dear grandmothers--Pearl Modlin, Francine Friedland, Golda Rappaport, Tova Rosen, and Roslyn Brickman--are looking down at you with immense pride. May you continue to go from Chayil to Chayil! All our love, Michael, Eytan, Danya, Azriel, and Amalya Rosen; Michael Rappaport; Wendy Gordon; and Rena and Mordecai Rosen.” Today’s daf is sponsored by Margalit Frydman on behalf of her parents and parents-in-law. Today’s daf is sponsored by Sarah Galasko for the refuah shleima of Pesel Bayla bas Gitel. Who is obligated in the mitzva of Aliya la’regel and who is exempt? A minor is excluded – who is considered a minor for this purpose? Beit Shamai and Beit Hillel debate this as well as what is the minimum amount of money required for the burnt offering for the holiday and for the chagigah offerings. The Mishna first states that all are obligated and then lists the exceptions to the rule. What does the word “all” come to include? Several answers are suggested and the Gemara raises difficulties with each option and then reinstates the first answer brought, that it is coming to include a Canaanite slave who is half slave/half free (he was owned by two owners and one freed him and the other did not). Another one who is exempt is someone who is deaf. Is it referring to someone who can’t hear and can’t speak or does the exemption also apply to one who either can’t hear, but can speak or can’t speak, but can hear?

Wendy Gordon Pake, Founder, President, and Volunteer Executive Director of FOODiversity, focuses on health equity by providing a direct link to resources for those with food allergies and celiac disease. FOODiversity aims to provide access to safe food, which is often an unmet medical need. The organization works directly with physicians, social workers, dietitians, schools, and community non-profits such as food pantries and homeless shelters by linking resources to those needing the help the most. Her solution to food insecurity is to raise awareness, provide education and financial support, and increase access. Wendy shares her family's personal experience with food allergies and insecurities and discusses the additional hurdles those with food allergies and celiac disease face. She offers suggestions of possible food donations to food pantries to assist those having dietary restrictions. Wendy had an impressive career with the Olympics and talked with Shandee about her work with the Olympic volunteers.

Wendy Gordon never set out to become a tech entrepreneur. But, after several decades working with environmental organizations, she saw an opportunity. Wendy and her co-founder David Sand thought to themselves, “Wouldn't it be nice if there were a program where you could get reward points not just for spending money but for spending money wisely and for making other smart choices - like walking or biking to work, opting for renewable energy or a certified pre-owned iPad, or choosing clothes based on where and how they were made?” And so, they embarked on a journey to create PIPs Rewards. An experienced entrepreneur and pioneer in the conscious consumer movement, Wendy is founder and CEO of ‘Positive Impact Points' or PIPs Rewards. A trademarked brand of 3P Partners, a Certified B Corporation, PIPs leverages the power of points, smart tools and games to record and reward daily life choices that deliver personal and planetary benefit. PIPs won Best Game prize in NYC BigApps 2014, the nation's leading civic innovations competition. Wendy also co-founded Mothers & Others with Meryl Streep in 1989 and originated the Green Guide, which was acquired by National Geographic in 2007. She has co-authored numerous books, including the award-winning True Food: 8 Simple Steps to a Healthier You (National Geographic, 2009). She serves on multiple boards including Rainforest Alliance, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Green Sports Alliance and Eugene Lang/The New School. Vegan - Vegetarian Solutions for a Sustainable Environment - Environmental and Ecological
Well we saw a bit of history two podcasts ago from 1994 and then on the last podcast we moved to 2004 and now let's again examine a 2010 article "Meals of Mass Destruction: Shrimp" by Wendy Gordon from the Huffington Post on how much of a change Environmentalists are making in bringing this important topic to the attention of a Seafood eating world. I have only read the parts of the article that deal with the Environmental Destruction since I'm not an advocate for any sort of Sustainable Animal Farming.
