We didn't get the tariffs decision this week, but we discuss two of the opinions we did get -- Bost v. Illinois Board of Elections, a decision about standing and election law, and Case v. Montana, a rare Fourth Amendment case -- in a remarkably efficient episode (after a brief detour into Grok's jurisprudence and the announcement of a major gift to the Constitutional Law Institute).
Today's West Coast Cookbook & Speakeasy Podcast for our especially special Daily Special, Metro Shrimp & Grits Thursdays is now available on the Spreaker Player!Starting off in the Bistro Cafe, a new viral video is making even MAGA turn against ICE.Then, on the rest of the menu, the website dedicated to naming ICE and Border Patrol goons is coming under a “prolonged and sophisticated” cyberattack from Russia; after being threatened by the MAGA Feds, Indiana University in Indianapolis went Vichy and canceled the annual dinner in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., first convened in 1969; and, faculty at the University of Pennsylvania condemned Trump's demand for ‘lists of Jews.'After the break, we move to the Chef's Table where Trump is holding millions of dollars from a deal made for seized Venezuelan oil in personal offshore accounts in Qatar, but the MAGA Congress doesn't care; and, the UK government is ‘not going to back down' from a US administration official's threat over a probe into Elon Musk and X.All that and more, on West Coast Cookbook & Speakeasy with Chef de Cuisine Justice Putnam.Bon Appétit! The Netroots Radio Live PlayerKeep Your Resistance Radio Beaming 24/7/365!“Everyone in this good city enjoys the full right to pursue their own inclinations in all reasonable and, unreasonable ways.” -- The Daily Picayune, New Orleans, March 5, 1851Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/west-coast-cookbook-speakeasy--2802999/support.

Dust lines, cloudy steps, and second passes with a manual vac eat time and profit. We tackled the root problem—fine debris slipping through bags—and put the Bottom Feeder Cartridge Assembly Kit 2.0 to the test. The result is a portable vacuum that captures down to about 20 microns without losing thrust, letting us collect leaves and silt in one run while keeping maneuverability in tight spaces like spas and benches. We break down why micron bags hit a wall as they load with dust, forcing water to bypass and spit from the bottom, and how a pleated cartridge changes the physics. The kit's reverse-flow, fully sealed canister uses a Unicel C9405 element to lock debris in the core, so nothing escapes when you lift it from the pool or move to a spa. Its compact size keeps the cleaner balanced and easy to handle, yet it still holds around a pound of dirt—enough to handle multiple dusty pools before a rinse. For heavy leaf jobs, the threaded halo lets you swap from cartridge to bag in seconds, so you can adapt on the fly.Expect no noticeable power drop compared to a bag; the Bottom Feeder and Shrimp keep full pull, and the five-inch throat on the Shrimp pairs especially well with the cartridge on top. When you add up fewer repeat visits, no manual vac setups, and longer intervals between cleanings, the ROI is clear—and the water clarity your clients see is even clearer.• fine dirt limitations of micron bags• cartridge filtration down to ~20 microns• Unicel C9405 compact specs and build• reverse-flow sealed canister design• capacity around one pound of dirt• when to use bag versus cartridge• maintenance tips and storage basins• thrust, balance, and power retention• price point, savings, and ROI• how to buy and available discountUse code DVB100 to save $100 on the Bottom Feeder or Shrimp at thebottomfeeder.com.Send us a textSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors! While very rare in western recipes, in Vietnamese cooking, mixing tofu with an animal protein is very common, and makes a great combination of flavors and textures. Chef Mai Pham from Lemon Grass Restaurant in Sacramento, CA shows us how to make this traditional Vietnamese clay pot with shrimp and tofu. Chef Mai explains that a chảo đất or clay pot dish, is an important part of a Vietnamese family meal, and also a convenient cooking vessel—because it's used to cook the dish from start to finish and is also how the dish is served. A sauté pan can also be used to make the dish, if you don't have a clay pot, however!

Today's West Coast Cookbook & Speakeasy Podcast for our especially special Daily Special, Metro Shrimp & Grits Thursdays is now available on the Spreaker Player!Starting off in the Bistro Cafe, Trump is losing it as mass protests are forming after his ICE Gestapo murdered Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota. Then, on the rest of the menu, Oregon's attorney general sued three insulin manufacturers and the nation's largest pharmacy benefit managers alleging they colluded together to inflate the price of insulin; while ICE goons prevented EMT's from attending to Renee Good, Bovino's brownshirts invaded a nearby high school, tackling people, handcuffed two staff members and released chemical weapons on bystanders, city schools are now closed indefinitely; and, Mike Pence sounded off against the White House's new "offensive, revisionist history" display mocking Capitol police officers who responded to the insurrection on January 6, 2021.After the break, we move to the Chef's Table where clashes between a Saudi/US-backed gold mining company leaves four dead in Afghanistan; and, Trump is withdrawing the United States from sixty-six international organizations and treaties, most notably everything connected with climate change, democracy and the rule of law.All that and more, on West Coast Cookbook & Speakeasy with Chef de Cuisine Justice Putnam.Bon Appétit!

Albert “Shrimp” Burns rose from a teenage mechanic in Oakland to become one of the most feared and beloved racers of the 1910s. Competing on the dangerous wooden motordromes —nicknamed “murderdromes” for their lethal design—he raced in front of crowds of 20,000 spectators at a time when board-track racing was one of America's most popular sports. By sixteen, Shrimp had become a national celebrity. He rode for both Harley-Davidson and Indian, shattered records, won over crowds, and pushed his body beyond its limits. He died at twenty-two. Much of his history vanished into scattered archives, newspapers, and forgotten race programs. Shrimp: The Albert Burns Story reconstructs his meteoric rise and tragic end using hundreds of primary sources and rare photographs, reviving a lost American icon and the brutal, glamorous world of early motorsports. Author Billy Choi joins us to talk about this much forgotten era of motorcycle racing, and the racers that lived and died for the sport.
