YOC students attended a Zoom assembly on Yom Hazikaron. They heard from guest speaker Rabbi Yoel Kenigsberg, who is currently a shaliach of Mizrachi UK, serving as the Rav of the Magen Avot Synagogue in Hendon, and Rav Shaliach of Bnei Akiva UK. Born in Johannesburg, Rabbi Kenigsberg was just 15 when his older brother was killed in combat defending the State of Israel. Rabbi Kenigsberg spoke about how the loss impacted himself and his family, and why he ultimately chose to make aliyah. Following the talk, a number of students asked thoughtful questions of Rabbi Kenigsberg. Rabbi Horovitz recited a Kel Male and delivered concluding remarks. Thank you to Rabbi Aviner for organizing the assembly; and thank you to all students/faculty who attended this meaningful program.

Fathers and sons learned together online under the direction of Rabbi Daniel Rapp, Professor at Yeshiva University and Rav of the East Denver Orthodox Synagogue. The shiur's topic was "Maror: What Do We Do When Sciences Clashes with Tradition?" The sources and shiur touched upon a variety of interesting areas and led to continued discussion and questions from fathers and sons to finish the program. Thank you to Rabbi Rapp for delivering this fascinating shiur; to Yeshiva University and Canadian Friends of Yeshiva University; and to all who joined us. 0:00 Rabbi Grauer's Intro 4:52 Rabbi Rapp's shiur begins 32:40 Q&A with Rabbi Rapp Watch the shiur on the Bnei Akiva Schools YouTube channel at youtube.com/bastoronto
Or Chaim and Ulpana students and alumni joined together on March 16, 2016 to hear from Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, former Chief Rabbi of the Commonwealth. Rabbi Sacks connected Purim and the creation of the State of Israel. His message was that individuals had great impacts in both cases, whether it was facilitating a meeting between Chaim Weizmann and President Truman; or Esther foiling Haman's plans. Hashem has a clear plan for all of us – and anyone within the room could change the course of history in a meaningful way. • Read the tribute to Rabbi Sacks in the Spring 2021 edition of the BAS Review at bit.ly/basreviews2021 Watch the address on our YouTube channel at bit.ly/rjsatbas • www.bastoronto.org Facebook.com/bastoronto • Instagram.com/bastoronto • LinkedIn.com/school/bastoronto
